I see they both removed TLC, and Counting On from their Instagram bios.

I wonder if TLC's attorneys told them to do it.  I wouldn't be surprised if TLC starts to pretend that the Duggars never existed.  Considering it is their entire 'claim to fame', I doubt Jinger or Jer would've done it without prompting.

I wonder how long their non-compete lasts. I want to say they're usually about a year.

Supremely Annoying WOACB Katie has heard 6 months.... So it's at least that.

The Duggars were huge money makers for TIC. They're still on the website, so I doubt removing the show's name was their request. Maybe Jing and Jer have signed on with Bravo or something and are cleaning house, so to speak.

They can't. TLC would be fools to let people go without signing the non-compete clause that I mentioned in my last post. Most last for a year from the date of termination. I don't think this stops them from utilizing social media, but it does stop them from running to another network right away.

I can’t imagine any other network wanting them.

Here's hoping.

On the other hand, Hollywood has a habit of doing the same crap over and over and over again because they're afraid of trying something new. 😟

How long was the gap between the Bates's TLC series and their UP series?

According to Wikipedia, here are the dates -- Pretty big gap, so probably not entirely non-compete related, though?

United Bates of America ran for a single season between August 13, 2012, until September 3, 2012.

The Bates family was previously featured on a 2012 TV series called United Bates of America, and it was announced in October 2014 that the family would return in a new series which would be called Bringing Up Bates. The series debuted on January 1, 2015.[1] Season nine began airing on March 5, 2020.[2]

Good news is that Up won't pick up the Duggars. They could, however, pick up the RAD Vuolos and feature them as the young Christian family in LA. They're different enough from any of the Bates couples that it's scarily possible.

I agree they won't pick up the Duggars, but UP did keep running 7th Heaven after it was revealed that Stephen Collins was molesting young girls.

Why should the whole family be penalized because one out of 19 kids turned out bad?

As @Absolom said, no one is entitled to a show - period. But its not really TLC who is doing the cancelling. Its the viewers, haters and advertisers. I wholeheartedly believe if TLC thought they could keep advertisers, they wouldn't cancel the show. But I do agree that it feels unfair for the Duggar siblings to lose their income due to Josh and their parents.

Let's hope none of your siblings do anything bad.

The peril of having a family business is that anything that affects the family can affect the business.  If my siblings do something bad, since we all have very different careers and live in different parts of the country I doubt it would affect me (unless what they did made the national news, and maybe not even then).

In a way, this is all because of their fame: we only know Josh Duggar and his arrest only made the national news because of the fame of the "family business", and I suspect at least partly because they billed themselves as being "ultra-Christian" and presumably better than the rest of us.  Americans love to see how "the mighty have fallen", and our national motto (these days in particular) would more accurately be "Schadenfreude, baby!" rather than "E pluribus unum".

ETA:  I do think that Jin and Jer have another deal going, probably with TLC.  To me, their messages say everything but "Nanny nanny boo boo, we have a series!"  Which will be so boring it will make watching paint dry look exciting and breathtaking in comparison, but if enough leghumpers/haters watch may get them more than one season.

I understand what you're saying. I think the problem is this family is so entangled there's no way to separate siblings from Josh/Meech/Boob. The kids are weak willed and brainwashed. Even if they manage to get another spin-off, Boob will have his tentacles in the pot somehow. He's not going to let Jessa have her own show without him getting a Manager's cut or some other kind of fee, and any money that goes to him, gets filtered down to Josh.

Now, I could see Jeremy and Jinger separating and making a statement that they have an independent contract, their own manager, lawyer, etc., but the two of them are dull as dirt. They can't carry a show on their own, and any Duggar appearances brings back the issue of where the money goes and who benefits. At this stage of the game, the family isn't worth the headache.

TLC and the Duggars may bill them(selves) as a Christian family, but how one defines that is at their own discretion and I guess, peril. For me personally, Christian describes having a Jesus based faith. The word Christian does not mean, to me anyway, better, more trustworthy or aspirational.

So if Jeremy and Jinger (because this is their thread) bill themselves as some new Christian "break-out stars", IMO, its buyer (watcher) beware.

Let's also not forget the optics of any of Josh's siblings having their own show while still--presumably--having a relationship with their parents. JB is paying Josh's legal fees* and is the one who did the scrambling to find a guardian for him. The Duggars have mastered the art of ignoring or outright lying about the various elephants in the room, with only the haters calling them out. I don't think that would work this time. Unless Jinger and Jeremy publicly cut off all ties withe JB and Michelle, they can't just do talking heads never mentioning the Duggars while we still see pictures of them visiting Arkansas on social media.

*For the record, though it pains me, I do believe that everyone should have adequate legal representation so *technically* I don't/shouldn't have a problem with this. But it's Josh. And his parents have enabled him all his life. It looks bad and feels gross no matter how you slice it.

Because of the vile foolishness which is today's "cancel culture". Throwing the baby out with the bathwater, anyone?

Let's define "bad" here. If we're defining "bad" as having committed a crime, then yes, there is only one of 19 kids that falls under that definition (that we know of).

But if we're defining "bad" as not only having hateful beliefs but going out of their way to proselytize and convert others, then I would add at least two or three more kids into the mix who turned out bad by that definition.

The vast majority of tv shows that ever existed -- tv shows of all varieties including reality shows -- have been cancelled by now. Many many shows have been cancelled with far bigger regular audiences than the Duggar shows.

A tv show is not forever. Just sayin.

That said, my bet is that some of the Duggars will be back.

Well to many businesses it means exactly that. Travel around the deep south and that's a way of advertising your business. When I look for a plumber it's good ratings not how christian the owner might be. The Duggars kind of trade on that by being the mostest christians that ever were.

Ignoring Josh, they treated 18 other children like chattel slaves. Still do, as a matter fact.  They lie so much they don’t even know what the truth is. They are abusive. They are out to take over the government and install basically a cristofascist state. They are likely financial swindlers, and tax invaders. They have supported sex criminals other than Josh. No one works or contribute anything to society.

You think the last girls are receiving an education at the monstrosity house?

Duggars, how do I despise there, let me count the ways…

He doesn’t have a social media account. Remember? So jingle did it on her phone.

I forgot that Jeremy doesn’t have SM on his phone.

The Duggars are the ultimate cancel culture. “ we are faithful, deeply committed Christians “  is used to cancel everything else from child abuse, to child molestation, to child pornography.  That’s not even touching the ecological, political, educational, etc. damage they do to the world.

I think Josh, and Jim Bob both to some extent think Josh will be completely went off the hook and his crimes canceled by being able to make such a sentiment in a courtroom.

To be fair, the Duggars are far from the only people who pull this kind of bullshit, but they are prominent in the media so we focus on them. I think we all know the Duggar types in our personal lives. They’re a kind of people I try to avoid, and dare I say cancel?

You can do it with the "multi quote" function. You click the little plus sign below the text in the post:

Screen-Shot-2021-07-10-at-10_18.11-PM.thumb.jpg.12763f0430620ef3d7ab4bf8079efd48.jpg

And that makes a box pop up at the bottom right corner of the screen - in this case it says quote 1 post because I only clicked the + sign in one post:

Screen-Shot-2021-07-10-at-10_19.16-PM.jpg.e1fabd4c8d31c5674ea33d16789acc13.jpg

Then you can navigate over to another topic - such as the Small Talk topic - and when you click the "Quote 1 post" box there, it will paste the text and info of your quoted post so you can then write your reply.

tl,dr: the "multi quote" function not only lets you quote multiple posts in a reply, it lets you take your reply to another topic whether you're quoting just one, or more than one, post.

I knew there was a way of doing it because I used to do it on another board but forgot how I did it…. As soon as I read your directions it all came back to me! 👍🏻

Anybody who stands next to Jeremy must already be famous or will become famous just by standing next to Jeremy.

I'd like to see how a show featuring Jer & Jing would explain the rent-free house, meals out, trips, and fancy clothes without mentioning what they do to afford these things. What does Jer do that would make interesting, but acceptable, television?  Would MacArthur get a shoutout? Jinger, famous only for being on a now-canceled TV show, has babies and makes cute poses for the camera. That seems to be her range. Their show would have a lot of dancing about the obvious. Of course, JB & M managed to do it for years, so it's possible. Having an army of kids certainly helped.

Jing and Jer would have to feature their children on camera. So much for privacy concerns.

However, punchable Aunt Cade would be delighted to hit the gourmet coffee shops with Jer. I don't think he minds being filmed.
