No more so than any of the others.  I was wondering where the kids' fathers were.  Were either mentioned and maybe I missed it?  Although we didn't see the baby daddy, we did see his mother and sister and the sister did not look like a biological daughter.  I am hoping that baby daddy stays away because any attention at all that he gives Shelby will give her hope for the proverbial family.  Its best for her to just resign herself to single momhood and get on with her life.

edited to add:  Now I do remember Shelby had a step-dad.

Well ... I did like that she's not hung up on her baby daddy. At times she seemed a little spoiled, but I never blame that on the teens, just on the parents. Although hers seem reasonable. Anyway, I like her sense of self at least.

Shelby did seem spoiled with boys and selfies the only things she cared about, but I suppose that's pretty typical of teens. I didn't like that she dropped out of school because she was too busy with exes to study. I would have put my foot down if I were her parents.

I don't think Shelby would have ever seriously pursued adoption, but still, I didn't like that the boy's mom said she would adopt the baby. Good intentions, perhaps, but like Shelby said, it would make her feel like a deadbeat mom since she's close to the mom and sister.

Shelby said she knows April didn’t raise AJ to be a garbage human, but that’s what she did raise. Presumably he has an absent father, too, so that prick can get half of the blame for AJ’s pathetic behavior. A well brought up human being could not completely ignore his own child. Shelby was even willing to leave her newborn with his family so they didn’t have to be in the same space! And April kept saying she wasn’t making excuses for him, followed by making excuses for him. “I guess he wants to come to it in his own time.” The child is here NOW and needs her parents NOW. If you want to do things on your own time, wrap it up.

We saw one brief shot with Shelby’s niece Astraea, but there was no explanation of who her parents are or whether Shelby is not the first teen parent in the family. She was not nearly grateful enough for living in that big house rent free.

Finally, a likable teen on “16 and Pregnant”! Kyla is a good kid, snd I’m glad that she has such a great support system with her family. It may not be eith her Mom, but at least she has it.
Jaboire sems like a good kid, too.
I think this young family has real promise. It’s nice to see.

I loved Kyla. And Jaboire was great too (for his age anyway -- as a teen dad he does pretty good overall).  Cute baby. And loved the entire family, even the ones who don't get along. At least they talk and seem to have some respect for each other and don't make unnecessary drama over every little thing. It was like there was an entire family of sane adults for once.

My main takeaway from this episode is that I now have a better grasp of why we haven't been able to get control of the spread of COVID.

Right?? What movie could possibly be worth missing the birth of your child in person? It is not 1977, and this isn't your only chance to see Star Wars. Absolutely nothing came out in theaters in 2020 that you'll even remember next year. And it really doesn't matter whether Kyla was being unreasonable and trying to control you. She wasn't, but suppose she had been. Suppose she said you couldn't come in the hospital unless you gave away your favorite Air Jordans. She's bearing your child; you freaking humor her until said child is out of her body.

Kyla's extended family was pretty great, though I felt like I couldn't live with her mom Monica, either. I'm usually pretty invested in honesty, but if Monica wanted zero children and ended up having three, she needs to shut up about not wanting the children. If you can't muster the enthusiasm to tell the children that they were wonderful surprises, you should give them to someone who actually wants to be a parent. It's obvious that she didn't do a great job suppressing her resentment of Kyla. Hopefully Kyla can fake it a little better if she doesn't love parenting, either, because that was one darling nugget of a baby boy.

Actually, I wasn't talking about the movie.

I'm not so sure she wasn't.  She drew the line at his going to a movie, but she herself was fine getting together with her mother, indoors, both unmasked, even though her mother was working in a hotel.  And he was living with her mother, so he had pretty much any exposure she had, and she was still happy to be around him, until he wanted to go to a movie.  At least movies have procedures and policies, and I didn't see any among the family gatherings I saw.  Not all of those people lived with Kyla's aunt.

can we start a petition to have Kyla added to one of the teen mom shows?  I don't need another unremarkable mess of a mother with absolutely no hope of improvement to replace the next cast member who quits or gets fired.  Kyla actually has a chance of completing school (online at least) and having a career.  She clearly has a lot of mental health issues but unlike a person fused to her couch is actually working on trying to solve them.  I'd much rather watch her try to raise her daughter and improve herself than see someone else whose name I can't even remember get into a screaming fight with their ex and let their children run ferrel.  I can watch Teen Mom in about 7 minutes since I fast forward through all the fighting people, plus Maci since I don't need to watch her humiliate Bentley or whine about Ryan.

IKR!? Please send them all the MTV checks!  Smart, thoughtful, thankful, good relationship with her mother and his mother.  Even pragmatic about her relationship. Hopefully she doesn’t set her expectations for him too low, but he’s not the worst and he had a plan to take care of them.  I hope she can manage through her anxiety and grief.

I think she needs a new doctor, though.  I don’t know about IUDs, but to not be able to confirm that it’s out?  I hope it didn’t cause or contribute to the pain she had.

I had so many friends have babies while wearing an IUD we used to joke about the baby being born holding it in their hands.

Yeah, she was great and so was everyone else. It's nice to see stories that aren't dumpster fires on this franchise. I guarantee you though that if MTV picked up any of these fresh girls for Teen Mom they'd become as useless and entitled and dysfunctional as the current crop have turned out. The money derails them and stalls their normal maturity and they just become bizarre grown ass women who cannot cope and take endless vacations and/pr move every year into a new house. These kids are better off where they are. One shot and done.

I loved Abygail. Probably one of my favorites and I’ve watched this show since the beginning. She actually tried to prevent pregnancy and wasn’t one of these “we thought it wouldn’t happen to us/we were too lazy to buy condoms”. She had a good plan for the future. Her mom was a great mom. I kept waiting for a dumpster fire and was surprised it didn’t come! Was sad to see her dad took his own life, but it was nice to see she was getting therapy and her mom advocates for mental health therapy. I really hope for the best for her future and her family.

Not to derail the thread, but that horrifies me. I have had an IUD for 3 yrs and have never known anyone that has happened to. I am not ready to be pregnant.

This is a very good point.  But most of the girls on Teen Mom were on an absolute trajectory to disaster with or without the MTV money  (without Teen Mom money I picture Amber on disability or welfare spending most of her days on her couch while her kids are raised by others).  Jennelle would still be in and out of trouble with the law and abusive men,  and Farrah might have wound up in porn anyway.  Chelsea would have been primarily financially dependent upon her dad or a husband instead of MTV money.   Leah would have found an older or married man to support her financially.   Without MTV money, Jeremy's job would have been much more valuable to Leah, and she might have accepted his not being around and his not being the most emotionally supportive person in exchange for the money he brought into the family.   Both Chelsea and Leah might have a minimum wage job, but they would find someone else to be their primary form of financial support.  Tyler would have left Catlynn a long time ago, but I cannot imagine her breaking the cycle of poverty and abuse with or without MTV money.  I'd picture Catlynn working at a minimum wage job, or on disability (if she could qualify) or welfare.   Kailyn and Maci might have had a chance at getting a job that could support one child, but probably not three.

The MTV money is a huge disinvestment to investing in an education and getting a job, but I wonder if with Teen Mom money Abygail would go the route of Chelsea, and be a good mom and focus on intensive therapy to help her mental health.  She's a lot brighter than Chelsea, so it would be interesting to see how that would turn out.

The MTV money train has certainly contributed to the ultimate demise of many of the Teen Moms (arguably all).  I think one way to preserve the message would be to limit participation to one season per Teen Mom, then, on to a new batch.  That would give the participants a little monetary "shot in the arm", yet not make them dependent on it.  Do a reunion show once a year and move on.

Based on her 16&P episode, I thought Maci would turn out better than she did, so maybe Teen Mom OG screwed her up. Then again, she's no Farrah or Amber in the trainwreck department. I mean, both of her subsequent children have the same dad, and she's still with him. By Teen Mom standards, that's practically equivalent to earning a Ph.D.

The Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 salaries got way too big. A new Teen Mom would be unlikely to get the ratings the others did in the beginning so maybe the lower pay would keep the girls off the couch.

Or on the couch trying to amass more social media followers and the money that comes from it.

I don't see any comments about the most recent shitshow, where Taylor gets pregnant by Armani but they're not together and she's now with Armani's (former) best friend Desmond, who is apparently living with Taylor in her parents' home and is expressing a desire to raise the baby.

Where are the anti-abortion protestors now that they persuaded Taylor to change her mind?  Because this baby is born into a situation where Taylor's family declared that they didn't want any "visitors" the day Taylor came home with the baby, and "visitors" includes the baby's own father.

But they allowed "visitors" the next day, but an issue arises when Family Taylor decide Armani should see the baby before Desmond does, but Desmond arrives early and is shunted into the basement to await Armani's arrival, and once Armani sees the baby, Desmond is allowed to ascend from the basement and meet the new human he is promising to help raise.

And Armani says he wants to see the baby four times a week, and Taylor agrees, and then Taylor's father rescinds her agreeance (tm) by text to Armani, without Taylor's knowledge, because he believes she agreed to it without really wanting to, even though he never actually asked her how she felt about it.  And of course a profane text war between Taylor's father and Armani ensues, and Taylor's father says he's just protecting her.

Taylor came ::thisclose:: to avoiding every bit of this, which transpired just a couple of weeks into Monty's life, and I don't think it's going to get a lot better as time goes on.  And this is a girl who signed herself up for some military prep something or other, intending to go into the military, but when she got back home she resumed running with the wrong crowd and got pregnant and is now stuck.  Oh, and her last name is apparently "Luck."

What do these kids have against pronouncing consonants? Taylor is so dull, it's a miracle she managed to attract two different would-be baby daddies. I suspect Desmond figured out that a pregnant girl definitely puts out.

Who else detected more than a whiff of racism in Dad Taylor's assumptions about Armani's likelihood to be a danger to Taylor and Monty? I didn't blame Armani for walking out at that point. It's hard to believe that MTV would hide a history of abuse or violence, so it's a safe bet that there wasn't any.

Dad Taylor seems to think that unilateral decision-making is the way to go. He'd rather go to court than even try to let the parents work out visitation, which they achieved with zero conflict. Parents Taylor managed to take uneducated, broken-up, reluctantly parenting teens and ADD drama and conflict. It's no small feat.

Taylor was extremely dull and lifeless. I couldn't square her as the bad girl who went off to military school or party girl who passed out in bath tubs.

Everybody seemed more or less reasonable until Taylor's dad decided he knew what Taylor really wanted (more like what he really wanted) and caused drama. It's probably best that they go to court to set a visitation schedule because Taylor's dad will keep overriding Taylor's decisions and refusing to let Armani visit, claiming he's violent, not invested enough, can't be trusted etc.

Wow, Family Taylor is super trashy. They have a lot of nerve being so judgy about Armani's family and their propensity to endanger children. Armani and Desmond have been in trouble, too, but Parents Taylor are grown ass adults.

Now it makes a little more sense that Corey went running to the legal system before there was even a custody conflict...the damn courthouse is his second home.

I don't know if it was intended like that but it sure raised the question in my mind.

I found Taylor's parents to be insufferable. No wonder Taylor has trouble expressing what she wants and thinks - she has had a lifetime of having her wants and thoughts just ignored and dismissed as not her own. It must be exhausting and infuriating to have your feelings waived away and dismissed as invalid all the time. They complained that she didn't speak up or that she was too shy to say what she wanted and felt. But then when she does, they just waive her away and tell her that she doesn't actually think or feel that way, that she thinks and feels what they tell her she does, and that they are going to override her wants and feelings in order to 'protect her'.  That's some next level mindfuck right there.

And then you read about their consistent history of arrests, fraud, lawsuits, evictions and identity theft and you can see that they are just POS who are trying to portray themselves as the 'good parents' here. Taylor has watched this happen her entire life. So she just weakly says what she thinks and feels and wants, watches them dismiss her entirely and tell her that she does not think or want or feel those things at all, and gives up and sits down and gets real quiet.

I think this is the most disturbing and dysfunctional family dynamic we've seen in this franchise, and that's saying a lot.

I liked the boys and Taylor for the most part. They acted pretty maturely. I liked Armani's family too. But they are going to have a world of problems with Taylor's parents. They are just schemers and controllers.  I hope Taylor can get away from them sooner rather than later. Too bad she is so financially dependent on them.

In addition to Monty, Desmond has also posted photos of a little boy named William that looks to have been born three days after Monty. In a gallery of Instagram pictures posted on March 17, Desmond wrote: “William & Monty my life just changed in everyway possible but I’m blessed to say I cant wait to raise you two together with the worlds greatest girlfriend on my side” [Emojis didn't copy.]

What a shitshow. Father Taylor is a control freak. Taylor herself is a mealy mouthed, not cute bump on a log. Are there no cute girls in Prairie du Sac? Hard to believe. Father and Mother Taylor are gonna be raising that baby.

I thought something was amiss with this family!  All those people jammed into that little duplex with no curtains on the Windows and stuff piled everywhere!  I count seven people living there.

The check from this show might keep them afloat for a little while but then who knows.

Poor baby already back in the hospital according to the announcement at the end during credits!
