Nope I cannot see Rory doing any of those things lol. The best part of Rory in college is Paris. Just finished Die Jerk. Love Paris' response to the message board and striking back fast.

Festival of Living Art. Enjoyed this ep, liked Kirk taking the whole thing too far. The show really is a neat idea.

There are some things about season 4 I liked that I forgot- love Gil and the band. Also Doyle and Paris.

Nick Offerman cameo was unexpected.

I haven't watched this in about 10 yrs so I've forgotten a lot of the smaller details.

Still find Jason awful, I don't know how Lorelai resists the urge to smack the smug look off his face.

Agreed. He is just as spoiled as Christopher in his way. As far as I'm concerned, Luke was the only MAN in Lorelai's orbit. Max was alright, he just came off as needy though.

The difference between Christopher and Jason was Chris could NEVER do any wrong to anyone, even if he had held someone up at gunpoint. Jason was EVERYONE wanted to dump on him as soon as he had any independent through process. I mean his father went right after Richard because HOW DARE HE go into business with the enemy. Richard only got mad at Jason, because HOW DARE HE date his daughter, when he was the type that Emily ALWAYS wanted. He is so emotionally a person he can't touch or lay in a bed with a woman, even if he is constantly sleeping with her. He has a dog that is so detached, it stares at a wall all day and doesn't great ANYONE.

 Lorelai could sure pick them.

He wasn't malicious but he was irresponsible and immature. He wouldn't be convicted of murder but negligent homicide wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

Yeah, Richard forgets the only reason he went into partnership with Jason was because he knew it would make Floyd mad. Nothing else mattered. He didn't care about Jason's clients or work or anything else until Jason pointed out how mad it would make his father. Hey, congratulations Richard! It worked. What does Richard to? Sells out his partner. I didn't like Jason when he wanted to be his partner and brought up his father. That's a crappy thing to do. But Jason had been a good partner from then on. Richard not only sold him out but he went out of his way to destroy his reputation and go back to work for Floyd who he had hated enough to want to make mad while acting like he's done nothing wrong. That was horrible thing for him to do. Jason did nothing to deserve that and we're suppose to think he's wrong because he decides to sue Richard? Richard had it coming. I don't buy that it was because he was so mad about Jason dating his daughter and not telling him about it. Richard doesn't care about Lorelai enough to be mad about that. He's always been a jerk. But that season he really was becoming more of one especially to Emily. She had every right to walk after learning what he did and blowing off her worry that Lorelai and Rory would walk. But he never really makes up or apologizes of it. His reconciling Emily ends up having nothing to do with how he's treated Emily over the season and how mad she was at him.

It paints Floyd as a moron too. He basically was forcing Richard out to give Jason Richard's position, basically having his son take over the family business. However, Jason hated working for his father, even if he was damn good at what he did. I mean he did learn from not only Richard, but everyone at the company. Floyd wanted the best of the best at his company. The reason why Jason got upset was because: "He didn't believe in his father's direction" for the company. Even more was that not only does Richard go out and destroy Jason's rep, but Floyd does the same. What did he think he was going to live forever? When we get to Richard's funeral in the Revival, not only has Jason apparently forgiven Richard. His rep is back together, Floyd is apparently dead and Jason got the company anyhow and shows up as a sign of respect to Richard?

After that, I think I would have been more: "Yeah he was my dad and he was my former business partner, but FU you both for trying to ruin my life."

A Family Matter- Emily laughing so hysterically about the thought of Lorelai and Jason just seemed over the top and not like her. I buy she doesn't like Jason, but the laughing is not really Emily.

Lorelai not telling Rory about money woes is silly.

I forgot Liz coming in this season.

All of Paris' lines to Tawna are funny.

I'm a L/L shipper so I liked In the Clamor and Clangor but that hat Lorelai was wearing is absurd.

Jason is a tool and he treats Lorelai like shit. Maybe he has to take escorts to events but he could have told her in advance. And then working on their morning together.

So both are like- oh let's tell your parents, you mean so much to me...and I'm like really? Hard to see it.

Yes, the money woes thing is strange--Rory knows they don't have a ton of money anyway and that they are building the Dragonfly Inn--it isn't like Lorelai has tons of money flowing in now, even if she did get a severance of sorts--and no guarantee how well the inn will do.  Rory seems about as unaware of money as Lorelai--just like Lorelai never planned about how Chilton or Yale would be paid, Rory never seemed to ask (or at least not far enough ahead of time--such as if this works out, how will we pay for it?)

Liz coming in is okay so far but it is like a huge warning about how much he and her boyfriend will annoy me very soon!  I am dreading some of those scenes coming up.

I never cared for Jason much either, but as a short relationship it is okay, I guess.  But he kind of annoying and they don't seem to care about each other much.

On another note, I just got to the scenes where Lane's mother is extremely hurt that Lane called everyone but her and then finds all of the things in her room.  And just how sad she was about it all.  I also don't think Lane handled it well in her discussion later--though it is true that she couldn't tell her mom about most of it, to just go on and on about her band at that point, and how she could live there and go to community college, etc--her mom was smart to say that she doesn't make the rules.

The biggest problem was, that Lane hid everything because her mom would "yell first" and react to things later. Like how Lane brought up Cookie Monster saying he represented gluttony and hence, Sesame Street could NEVER be watched again. Yet, never brings up other shows like: Mr. Rogers or other shows that would have been more "appropriate" for Lane to watch. Yet, Mrs. Kim didn't get it in her head that she was basically telling Lane: "I yell at you about something, you can NEVER do anything related to it again!" If Mrs. Kim wouldn't have over reacted to things so much, Lane would have had a better time being herself and not feeling she NEEDED to hide so many things.

Then the writers completely made her a hypocrisy when Grandma Kim comes in and she is a practicing Buddist and Mrs. Kim basically reveals she has been hiding her ENTIRE American life from her mother. It made even less sense that Grandma Kim could drop everything and fly to Stars Hollow and apparently NEVER visited before as Lane puts it. Making it even more of: "huh?"

Yeah, I totally get it.  I just think they both have a part in the relationship, but her mom definitely didn't make it easy on her.  That is for sure.  I don't blame her for having a secret life and all that.... (Lane's secrets -- not the Mrs Kim thing)

I felt bad for Mrs. Kim until she gave Lane the ultimatum. She made zero attempt to listen or understand or try to compromise. It's her house so she can make any decision she wants about who lives there, but I don't feel much sympathy for her. Lane was willing to talk and compromise and Mrs. Kim shut her down.

Nag Hammadi is just a great episode. Kirk is great all through season 4. Babette- he treed himself and it took the fire department and two cans of tuna to get him down lol.

Gypsy with Jess is fun, all the townspeople are always fun.

Jason and his dad- great scene.

Yeah Liz annoys me by ep 2 heh. TJ was fine though.

Jess is an asshole. I kind of get him running away from Rory, I mean it's childish but he's young and messed up. But saying he lives her and then bailing again? That's just being a dick. It also serves the function of stopping Rory's legit anger.

That's exactly it. I do feel for Mrs. Kim when she uncovers everything Lane hid and her remark that "I made you do this." It would hurt to realize how much your child hid from you. But at the same time Mrs. Kim made absolutely certain that Lane would never tell her anything and hid everything from her. She banned everything and had so many insane rules. The Cookie Monster, there was also the TV that she threw out when she caught Lane watching something she didn't approve. There's no way Lane could have ever told her mother she liked rock music, wanted to be in a band or even simple stuff like clothes. Everything had to be Mrs. Kim's way and she refused to listen to Lane on anything. We saw that over and over. The only way Lane could survive was hiding everything from her mother and lucky enough to have Rory and Lorelai who let her be herself. She didn't even bother to ask Lane about college. Nope, she had already made up her mind that Lane was going to Adventist College. She didn't care about what Lane wanted only what she wanted. As shocked and as hurt as she is Mrs. Kim had insured that Lane would hide everything from her. She had made sure that Lane could never be honest with her. I do like when Lane talks about how her band a chance to play at a really cool club and she didn't know how to tell her mother. She knew her mother wouldn't approve and she could only imagine if she asked her. Mrs. Kim says she would have said no. Lane sadly says Well she could imagine. Which was true.

Its hard seeing Lane trying to compromise. She wants her life but also still loves her mom. Mrs. Kim telling her kids shouldn't make the rules. That made me feel so sad for Lane and she should move out?. I really didn't expect anything else from Mrs. Kim. I do like that we got to watch them become close. Mrs. Kim ends up accepting and supporting Lane. I do love the scene after the wedding when she says she's going home to put in the good earplugs. It was great to see how far they come.

I do love that they had Lorelai keep trying to talk to Mrs. Kim and Lane. She didn't want them to end up like she and her mother. Those were great moments. I love that after Mrs. Kim tried to visit Lane and got freaked out by the boys she runs straight to Lorelai who talks her down and gives her a way to accept it. I love Mrs. Kim returning informing them that the window will be fix, fridge would be gotten and you two are girls. Its just such an awesome moment and a real big step for her. Lane of course looks so happy.

Mrs. Kim sadly was unaware of just how bad she went about things. Even her business her entire: "Buy something or get out!" In my head another reason why Mr. Kim was "away" on business so much was trying to keep her antique store from going under. In fact, that was another thing that was a problem with Gilmore Girls. How people like Mrs. Kim, Taylor or Kirk just went around doing these very insane and many times STUPID business or political practices that would have drove anyone out of business or had it where no one would associate with them again. In fact, a major missed opportunity was Mrs. Kim's business having some "issue" that Taylor had too pester or at times bully a business owner. Yes, the show had him fixate on Luke almost all the time followed by Lorelai or Jackson. However, Taylor never ONCE bothered Mrs. Kim or even Mrs. Kim with all her: "I tell you how it is!" Didn't tell Taylor: "You know, if you were in Korea, you be dead by now!"

I agree that much of what Mrs Kim did over the years as a parent wasn't great.  When I said I felt bad for her, I just meant I could feel her hurt and pain and you could see how much she loves Lane in that episode.  I think there are a lot of parents that don't do it right, and of course if they did, they would have a better relationship.

I think the biggest reason she had Lane leave is because she knew that it didn't fit with her typical rules and lifestyle and it would be too hard for her to have her live there openly doing all of the things she had no idea Lane was doing.  It is like meeting a new person for her because she didn't know her daughter at all.  And I am sure she knows it is mostly her fault.  As a person it is hard when you are confronted with your role in a situation like that--there is pride, hurt, shock, etc, etc, to deal with in the moment before you can heal and learn from it.

It seems obvious to the viewer and other people in Lane's life how that life didn't serve her well, but it is harder to see your own part in things at times (esp someone as strict as Mrs. Kim).  So she has a lot to take in here to figure out how to move forward.

This is pretty cool...I have had to buy some episodes on Amazon, and am now just doing Netflix temporarily because my dvd set has always had some bad dvds and I would miss parts of some episodes.....so anyway the cool part is that there are some scenes I am pretty sure I hadn’t seen because of it.  Such as Lorelei getting Luke from jail, and some of the spring break scenes with Louise and Madeline.  I always really like those two.  There might be more coming as I keep watching.  Who knows what I have missed.  Lol!

"Girls in Bikinis, Boy Doin' The Twist" is  good one. I had no idea when I watched the episode that the band, The Shins, were a real band until I saw them on Austin City Limits singing the same song. Duh! As if ASP couldn't get real talent on the show like The Bangles. My defense of not knowing The Shins is I'm old. 😄

Luke telling Lorelai at the diner that he was not wearing his own socks was funny.

I lol last night watching the episode where Lorelai finds out that Emily is living elsewhere--  the dinner scene where they are all acting strange, say they can take their drinks to the table, etc, to rush things along (which Lorelai is like, what???)  Emily was quite humorous in those scenes.

I'm supposed to be the same age as Rory and had never heard of them before. Didn't care for that song, either, so I had no desire to research them.

I do want to say now that I am on to Season 5, and have finished my rewatch of Season 4, there were many great scenes in Season 4.  So many lol moments, I can't remember them all.  That is one thing I love about this show...so many little gems in every episode to enjoy.  It helps counter some of the not so happy things that happen along the way.

The Shins were never mainstream but they were popular as an indie band around 2002 to 4 ish. I had one of their albums but weeded it out at some point. The Stills was a much better band with a similar name lol.

Reigning Lorelai is a good ep, tipsy Emily in a robe was funny. The buildup to Emily and Richard splitting was well done but I don't enjoy the storyline. I do feel for Emily throughout this season.

I agree with Gran Lorelai needs a haircut.

Yes indeed. I've read interviews with Lauren where she talks about her wild curly hair. Hard to know if that was her hair they let go wild or doctored up hair of some sort.

My 2 favorite episodes are Scene in a Mall and The Reigning Lorelai, which aired back to back. Kelly Bishop just knocked the character of Emily out of the park in both. Drunk Emily was a hoot.

-Rory go to a fucking library. WTF is wrong with you?

I was alone and dead broke when i went to uni. I could only take a couple classes at a time to start because I couldn't get a loan and I was working part-time minimum wage job. I studied in a 400 ft square apt with very little heat in the winter. I took baths sometimes just to get warm. I had no computer so I had to walk to the school (was not on campus) in sub zero temps and spend my Saturdays and Sundays in the open computer labs in the basement of some of the school buildings. Took me 6 yrs to get a four yr degree, but I did and finished debt free and with a full scholarship for my masters bc of my grades.

Lol. Can you tell why I don't like Rory?

I have a similar reaction to many of Lorelai's behaviors.
As a career woman during the last 30 years I find that she lacks self-respect for her career. She's occasionally proud of it, but she doesn't engender respect from others, especially with her frequent off-color remarks.
She does it as well with her relationships. Drawing attention to her dress/body in WBB boggles my mind.

So meeting Jason's parents helps illuminate why he is practically incapable of connecting with people like a normal person.

All in all I think he was treated poorly by Richard and obv his father.

Richard jeopardizing his pension was on him but even at the dinner when Jason came i to the study- Richard was like- what did you do?

I've always had mixed feelings on Richard and can never settle whether I think he is decent and caring or not, especially in re: to Lorelai but it extends to others as well.

Emily on the surface is bitchier and nastier but with Emily I also have no doubt that she loves Lorelai and Rory and was indeed crushed when they left.

Jason is another example of these "rich people" treating their kids in legacy only. Downright either telling them: "You are better than this." or "How dare you have free will, you will DO WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO!" Hell, Gilmore Girls could be a grand example of how not all abuse is physical, it is extremely mental.

It surprises me how often people consider Richard to be sweet, like when he didn't rat her out for running out on dinner with Chase.

He was supercilious, behaved as if he were more important than his company thought he was, hid things from Emily like risking his whole pension.

For me his coldness as a father was demonstrated when he lectured Emily after she treated Luke poorly. He told Emily how he would whip him into shape so he would be presentable at the club on special occasions.

That's not a decent father. That's an insufferable snob who does not care about others.

Yes, and the more you looked at Richard over the course of the series. He HATED being called out on his mistakes or when he was in "the wrong". I mean after his revelation to Lorelai that he wanted to not only kill Christopher after finding out Lorelai was pregnant with Rory, but also how much he "ignored" being part of Rory's life for so long. He decided to be "traditional" and make good of a bad situation. I could have seen Richard presenting Chris at: clubs, parties, ect. Especially given his family background. However, didn't excuse that Christopher was a self-absorbed man-child who did EVERYTHING for himself and not anyone else. Even when he "pretended" he cared, Chris was more focused on getting into Lorelai's pants than being a parent or anything.

Yes there are so many times he isn't even remotely decent to Lorelai, and the whole situation with Luke in general (for both Emily and Richard) is ridiculous.  I mean, she left them years ago, lives in Stars Hollow where Luke completely fits into her life--they are smart enough to know she isn't running in the rich people circles whatsoever in her regular life.  Adding to this, to bring Emily into it--I find it funny how often she insults Lorelai for not having a boyfriend or a long relationship over the years, but then is always the one to try and ruin what she does have.  Stupid.

And then of course all of this carries over to Rory when they want to get rid of Dean in her life as well.  (but Rory is in the beginning stages of snobbery so it works better for Rory, lol)

Even more how much they kept "shipping" for Christopher. There just comes a point, where something is just gone and buried. Plus, really Emily had to get into how Christopher's "genes" were good for Lorelai. However, do you think Emily's Circle of Friends really would accept that:

1. Chris ignored Rory and still does whenever she "isn't around".

2. The fact he knocked up a second woman and while he did marry her, she took off and he basically just leaves Georgia with Lorelai or his mother, Francine.

3. Fact majority of Emily and Richard's World was dying off and they were marrying these younger women/men to keep their estates together and everyone made fun of them.

So, really what were they trying to prove?

They wanted Lorelai with Christopher. Period. They might have gone along with Jason if the dads weren't at each other's throats. The way Richard and Jason's father just wrote him off was appalling. They wanted Perfect Robot Daughter or they were going to make Lorelai's life hell. Coldest parents I've ever seen.

Yep, no matter how spineless, childish or at times careless Christopher was.

It's like the were breeding dogs.  Ugh.

Right and if Emily and Richard ever looked passed the superficial. I'm sure their circle would be: "I get that they married because Lorelai got preggers, but he is such a loser." "Oh yes, I agree and his parents, WTF are their problems? Straube's father doesn't even like his own son"

Luke is just adorbs at the end of the ep- Luke Can See Her Face when he asks Lorelai out and then goes back to the office. He looks so pleased with himself.

I continue to wish Lorelai would cut her hair to be sleeker. I don't think it's real- I think there are some extensions in the mix.

ETA Jared P really grew up between season 3 and 4- he's physically bigger and a bit of scruff on his face and it's all working for me lol. Also something must be wrong with me bc I still like TJ.

Love The Festival of Living Art! My only quibble is that I would have put the original portrait at the end as a buildup...but I get they needed Lorelai’s to be last to address the flinching piggybacked with the pager going off.

I love it too. They really did a fantastic job. And I was so happy for Gil.

My favorite town event by far. I wonder if something like that actually exists.  What a great idea.

Have you heard about the Getty Art Museum Challenge? People are trying to recreate classic paintings at home during quarantine. They're really neat.

Many schools also doing the "Living Wax Museum" where students and teachers dress up as famous figures like in a Wax Museum and then people would push a fake button or pay a ticket for charity and the people would then say who they are or who they are representing.

So I’m thumping along on the treadmill watching Season 4 and all of a sudden there’s Rami Malek in Lane’s church group. Now that was some major cognitive dissonance...I almost fell off trying to rewind.

I try so hard to spot him in that episode and I miss him.

Okay, so I knew Jess was going to slither back eventually. He’s every bit as loathsome as ever. I will begrudgingly admit he was handsome...but either he hasn’t aged well or the all-encompassing beanie-instead-of-eyebrows look REALLY doesn’t work for him.

Like it wouldn’t be cheaper to buy another beater in California than to fly to the east coast to retrieve that piece of crap? Especially since supposedly Liz just found out about the car from Luke that morning so I can only assume Leather Punkadaro went immediately to the airport in California and flew east...because those last-minute fares are so reasonable.

The logical holes in this show are just enormous sometimes.
