GH In The News: The PC Press Club

Oh, I really like that KD is going to be Jackie Templeton! That's a genuinely excellent use of GH history, for a change.

I mean, it's still possible Jackie is also Dr. Michael Easton's stepmom...

But I'll take it if Jackie shades Lulu's alleged journalism skills up and down.  Please please please!

This would be hilarious. I watched the Susan Moore story on YT awhile back, and Demi Moore was not terribly convincing as a hard-nosed reporter - at the time she was very young and not a great actor, to put it kindly - but Jackie was Murphy Brown compared to Girl Reporter.

I wonder if Michael E. Knight and Kim Delaney will have some meta scene on GH, seeing as they played brother and sister Tad and Jenny on AMC eons ago? (I loved Jenny and Greg/Jenny as only my 11-year-old self could and was heartbroken when Jenny bit it on that rigged Jet ski by her evil ex-fiance!)

Is she going to be the hotshot Pacific coast reporter Lulu got permission to talk to to dig up dirt about Cyrus?

(Why, why, why did Girl Reporter ask permission to talk to another reporter?  That's supposed to be something reporters do on their own initiative?)

Demi Moore was 19, I think, when she got the role, which is too young for what the character was supposed to be, but that's Hollywood.

She asked Peter if it was okay that another reporter worked on/wrote the story, and I think asking permission there was okay. Here's hoping Jackie completely takes over the story and Lulu is left in the dust.

Thinking about it, it's kinda good casting, I feel like there's a discernable throughline between Demi Moore and Kim Delaney, you know?  It's not the type of recast that's a complete reinvention, which they easily could have done with a character who's been off-canvas so long.

The more likely thing to happen is that she will slobber all over Lulu and what a great journalist she is.

Moore is who I always try to remember when I'm coming down hard on a soap newbie, especially a young person. I was not actually around for her GH run, but I had read for years that she was one of the worst in GH history. When I eventually saw clips...well, she was gorgeous, of course, but "raw" would be a nice way to put it re: her acting. Then, just a couple years later, she had become a real actress in films like About Last Night.

Another example is Tammy Blanchard, whom I found so gauche and screamy as Drew on Guiding Light, and she went straight from that to being a (deserving) primetime Emmy winner for the Judy Garland movie. Sometimes it's just a matter of a different work pace and directors who can focus a talent that's there, plus a little more maturity and comfort on a set.

This is what I see coming, unfortunately. "I've read your work. You're good! That piece you wrote about cafeteria lunches? Every journalist I know was talking about it."

"You really broke that story wide open!"

Hee. And sigh.

I think being properly cast is also a huge part of being a good actor. Look what happened with Jacob Young. He was terrible as Shouty McYellerson, yet once he joined AMC, he flourished. (I know it's all subjective; I'm speaking generally.)

Maybe I'm just naive, but I think the opposite. That Looloo will be the one gushing over Delaney's character, about how much she admires her, since she's a national reporter, while Looloo just writes for an online rag paper.

But this is the Fakakta GH, so I'm probably wrong.

Lulu did namecheck Jackie when they unsubtly pivoted her into journalism so I do think there will be some hero worship on Lulu's side.  But Jackie will also probably have to lie and say she's thinks Lulu is, like, super talented.

I wish I'd known, I would have signed it too. That was the last story left that I was actively rooting for.

Was he (unnecessarily) sacrificed for Cyrus vs Sonny? Or yet another Alexis downward spiral?

Sonny v. Cyrus. Alexis is an afterthought in the process. The women are an afterthought in the writing, unless it's Carly and her spawn.

Well, I'm bummed to see James Read go. But Gregory Harrison is a pretty good silver fox recast, so I'll allow it.

So if Jackie was Finn's ex, I could see why she would dump him in favor of his dad. I would also pick James Read and Gregory Harrison especially 20-30 years ago versions of them over any version of Michael Easton.

One thing I really hate about this regime is that they often recast some really great character actors with more "name" entities. I remember when they replaced Saidah Arrika Ekulona's Janice Lomax with Shari Belafonte and then did nothing with the character anyways or replaced Robb Derringer with Grayson McCouch. I know Kyle Sloane sucked, but Robb was much better in the role than Grayson.

Ugh, the Sloanes.

I just assumed James Read was busy with something else, it didn't smell like a stunt casting change to me.  And how many times did we even see Read as this guy, four?

So much Dr. Michael Easton related stuff, ugh.  I'm sure next they'll resurrect that dead wife of his.

I wasn't saying that that Robb Derringer was Sir Lawerence Oliver, only that he was better than Grayson McCouch.

I don't know what was going on with Grayson on GH because he was pretty good on ATWT, but he was just astoundingly bad as Kyle. I still laugh thinking about him on the live episode.

I was excited to see Grayson again because I really liked him on ATWT. But OMG was he bad. It was ridiculous to even recast the part since the character served absolutely no purpose. But there was just no excuse for how horrid he was!

Oh seriously, NOW they cut her? They should have done it two years ago, not now.

Was just coming in to post this. Better late than never I suppose but she was never a good fit. Now it’s just stupid especially with Dante back.

WDV on the other hand, well the writing has been on the wall for that one for ages. I’m actually surprised he lasted this long since the writers clearly have no interest in writing for Julian.

I never thought they were bringing Dante back to reunite them. It was weird that he was on the show for 8 years and only had 1 pairing aside from an affair. If anything, they could think this makes it easier for fans to accept Dante with someone new. And I agree about WdV. The last few days has been anvil heavy and his character has basically been the town punching bag for 3 years.

It'll make it harder to pair him, not easier, imo. Fans are gonna be annoyed she was fired for someone else. It's like Liz/Lucky/Siobhan.

ER wasn't great, but unless they are re casting imo it makes more sense to keep her than KMo or KSt.

After the way Alexis reamed out Julian yesterday, I half expect him to be dead by Friday.  Then Alexis can climb deeper into her vodka bottle and give Nancy more scene chewing for her Emmy reel.   The writers dug a pretty deep hole and buried Julian even before he is dead.  A shame because I like WdV.      I cannot believe they'd get rid of Lulu (recast, maybe?).  Wish it was Maxie instead.

Does this mean Cyrus is actually going to do something?

Is Lulu going to die because Cyrus just before Laura comes back?

Yeah, what a weird time to axe Lulu, right when Dante got back.  Is DZ's return maybe short-term, and they'll leave the canvas together?

Going unsaid is that her leaving probably means Mark Lawson is dunzo too.  She's his only connection really, outside of Brook, I guess, but Brook has been pivoted elsewhere.

As for Julian, I'm pretty much over him, it's probably time.  Although him gone means there'll be even less opportunities to not use Lucas (who?) then there are now.

But is Looloo leaving? Or Emme? Will Looloo be recast? With someone who could be believable as the child of Luke and Laura Spencer?

Everyone is different because I absolutely hated the JMB version of Lulu! I was so happy when JMB left. It wasn’t until Emme came into the role that I actually began to like and appreciate Lulu. I know many dislike her version, but she worked for me. I will definitely miss her Lulu, and all the interest I had in the Lulu/Dante/Dustin story pretty much dried up with this news.

I also agree that it’s crazy to fire her now when DZ just returned. If they need to cut ppl - why isn’t Chad on the chopping block? Michael is boring as dirt and serves NO purpose on this show! What would be impacted if he left the show? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And it’s been that way for years!

If Lulu isn't recast she will be killed. This show is littered with decent parents that the show makes abandon their kids and Valentin is too much of an asshole to allow Lulu to take Charlotte with her if she tried to leave for a better job offer.

I think it's a bit late in the game to recast her. I think she will be killed off given who she is investigating. I think the idea to hire Dante as private security because of Cyrus probably hints towards that.

As much as I like Julian better than a bunch of characters, the character was fucked over a very long time ago. If it's not the Wylie secret that gets him killed, it will be Cyrus. Unless Julian decides to pack his bags and leave PC altogether, which would probably be the sage thing to do.

Yeees but who would have thought Lucky was going to be recast with JJ after ten years? And the writing has been set up with Julian to leave for years. They could have fired ER any time in the past two years and it wouldn't have made much of a stir, why now when she has some semblance of a plot. And Dante is already super angsty, killing Lulu off would up it to almost ridiculous levels. And they usually don't kill off veteran characters. Backburner them and give them sporadic airtime or fire them, but usually not kill. Maybe she'll just leave town with Dustin, which I think would make it easiest for them to move Dante on. And if they were killing her off wouldn't it have been soapier for them to just reunite immediately?

There is also the possibility they hire her again in 6 months after they are done with some of the other actors like Jeff Kober and Gregory Harrison.

I don't know. Something feels pretty off.

I think the show has budget issues with its bloated cast. They are just throwing money at new actors/characters that no one needs. As much as I like Jeff Kober, I doubt he came cheap. Ditto Delaney. Where did they find that money?

I don't disagree but I am almost positive ER would have been willing to be on recurring. You're probably right about everything but something just feels fishy. I hope Lulu does just leave town though because . . .

I can go with abandoned kids when it's because of off screen stuff rather than deal with convoluted return from the dead stuff later on.

Considering the rumored firings, I think we know were they found the money. I kind hope the reason Dante's back is to escort Lulu off screen too, because as many have said, what is the point of having him here if they are just going to get rid of Lulu. I really wish the show wouldn't be so all or nothing with parenting. I don't see why Charlotte can't have the same set up that Jax and Carly ended up having, where Josslyn would fly out to Australia. Lulu doesn't even need to leave the country.

For someone who usually plays the game so well, she can be really tone-deaf.

I think with how the business is going, actors are grateful for any work they can get. Even scale is decent money.

Frankly, the show could get rid of anyone and I wouldn't care. It's been creatively bankrupt for so long that it could use a giant reboot. I know that will never happen.
