Not Safe With Nikki Glaser - General Discussion

I'm finding this show to be much funnier than I expected. It's not just funny, it's also actually making a point sometimes, too, which I also didn't expect. Ron Funches insisting that the best time to have sex was when it's consensual was the kind of thing that might seem too earnest for a joke, but I liked that they kept it anyway. Likewise, Nikki's revulsion at the guy who wouldn't stop looking at her during the dick diorama segment-- they could have edited it out because it was genuinely awful and not funny, but they left it in. And still, I find myself laughing a lot during the show.

I thought I wasn't going to like it because the ads about the lie detector segment struck me as stupid and annoying, and the "coffee humiliation" commercial seemed too cutesy as well. But overall I'm finding the show has more heart and more edge than I imagined it would. I felt the same way about "Inside Amy Schumer" but I wound up liking that show after I forced myself to watch it a few times.

I got to be a big fan of Nikki's through @midnight which I pretty much stopped watching.  So I was glad to see this pop up.  I don't think I knew she had a show coming out or had just forgotten until she made the rounds to promote its premiere last week.

The foot fetish thing was hilarious.  As was this week's dick pic segment.  I like how she is getting right in there and getting her hands dirty.

I also have to give her props for squeezing some good off the cuff humor from Doug Benson instead of him just sitting there and making sure everyone viewing knew he is stoned to an inch of his life.

I'm not sure about the people showing up as members of the audience.  This week's proud new dick pic possessor was kind of fun but the guy last week I found myself torn between second hand embarrassment for the guy and being creeped out his type of guy just exists.

But as squicky as that guy was I did like that segment and would like to see it again.  Thing is they need to come up with a new profile or otherwise they will have people looking the original one up and playing along knowing it is a set up.

I do think the show pushes right to the edge like with the dick pic of Ron's.  It makes the show interesting and entertaining but I also think it will be a game changer for how I view that person when it goes over in terms of TMI and her panel members (no pun intended I swear).

It feels way too short though when I watched it online and had no ads to sit through.

Ep 1: I love Nikki, so my hopes were high.

It wasn't perfect, but she's so charismatic, it mostly worked for me.

Ep 2: Okay, this is much funnier. She's really taking chances here.

Ep 3: Ugh. Why did Chris D'Elia have to infest this show?

I really cannot stand D'Elia but if he had to be on, I was glad it was this episode, simply to hear his almost outraged incredulity at the porn coaching segment.  He was so stunned and shocked that Nikki not only went there but got it aired.  Projection maybe but I'm convinced I heard a note of grudging admiration as well as jealousy knowing how high she raised the stakes in a comedy show like this.

I hate Chris D'Elia on an average day, but when he's got his legs spread toward the camera, I hate him even more. It's almost a blinding hatred, so I honestly don't know if the 3rd episode was any good, because I wasn't paying attention.

I hate him so much, I actually feel guilty, like can he possibly be so terrible a person to deserve this level of aversion? I have no idea. It's just a visceral reaction, even when he's not doing anything in particular I can say is actually offensive.

There's just such an epic level of smug off of him, I think... so I can't really blame you.  Also, while generally people shouldn't be blamed or shamed for their appearance, with him there's just this kind of weird dirty look (and I don't mean that in a good way).

A bit of a scattered episode for me this time.  The bit with the parents was funny more because of the cringe-worthy aspect of it all.  Though the mom did warm up and have fun.  It is easy to see both of them and figure out how Nikki is Nikki.  John the lie detector guy is lots of fun too.  Overall the lie detector bit is my favorite recurring one and I hope there are more to come.

Did not care for the guests.  Both tried a bit too hard and I felt took up too much time even though it was probably the usual amount.  I did find the emoji thing at the end amusing but it never quite made it to laugh out loud funny.  Probably because of the two guests.

But the comedians (or was it comediennes?) sitting on vibrators having coffee was hysterical.  And so wrong.  I laughed so freaking hard during that. And I loved how sexual the various shots were of the coffee making that seemed like they could have been lifted right from Seinfeld's show and yet suddenly were all kinds of salacious and the audience seemed to take a moment and then could not stop giggling.  Which made me giggle.

Chris Hardwick coming up next will be interesting.  He is such an attention whore (though to be fair last week and this week we already had a couple of huge room sucks).  But I already am prepared to hate him.  But maybe he will be gracious being a guest.  Who am I kidding.  Five bucks he mentions his fiancee is a model.

I thought it was a scream and would be fun to do at a party (fully clothed, as they were, in an atmosphere of zero actual sexual ambiance).  But then realized no way could I ever suggest such a thing.

When her friend splashed her and apologized and she said "that's okay, I'm already wet," I had to pause the tv I was laughing so hard.

I didn't mind the male comic, but the woman was freaky aggressive.

Or that she's a Hearst.

He really is a jackass. I watch @midnight despite him, not because of him.

I only JUST saw the older episode (Ep 4) where Nikki has her parents doing a sex quiz on the lie detector. VERY funny. Also, you can really tell where she comes by her looks--mom is gorgeous.

The Seinfeld parodying thing in the coffee shop was great too.

The guests were okay, but no better.

In case anyone besides me is still watching this show: it's been picked up for an additional 10 episodes.

The segment where Nikki and Kyle Kinane are telling the porn stars what to say while they're having sex is comedy gold. Last night's was even better than the first. (Those two porn stars are VERY game!)

I'm still watching. I agree that the porn star thing is comedy gold. It's actually a bit uncomfortable to watch, but that's what makes it great I guess. The accent on the female porn star kind of takes it over the top.

Oh my gosh, Patton Oswalt was hilarious on last night's show. I loved the segment with the dog! And Tinder Tapout was amazing too. Definitely the best episode of the series so far, in my opinion... makes me happy that it'll be back in June.

I'm seeing Nikki live in San Francisco this weekend, so I'm looking forward to that!

On one hand this was one of the best episodes.   But I also thought it was weaker in terms of using the two guests.  Both Patton and Natasha were great and I would have loved to have more of them used as others were previously.  Instead of some of the others previously.

I'm not sure who was the cuter puppy.   Scooter or Darrow.    I loved the follow-up with him in the Tinder Tapout.  I'm a bit of a prude and I still love this show.   I wish the biggest cable company in Mississippi somehow had a glitch and this aired on every channel in a loop for a couple of days.  Just the pegging alone should be hacked into their state legislature's website.

So glad it is coming back in June.  It would have sucked to wait a whole year.  But even then as long as it is coming back.  This is definitely one of the better shows Comedy Central has put on lately.

It's BAAAAAAACK... anybody?

This show makes me laugh.  Yes, cringe, too -- but not as much as you'd think.  Some people just have a gift for being merrily raunchy without being offensive.  Which makes it hard to tell people in real life about the show, because I want to share what happens, but it's hard when you can't repeat the best lines.

I enjoy the show -- though she still needs to find a better way to integrate her celebrity guests into the show. Mary Lynn Rajskub seemed a little uncomfortable. I've enjoyed MLR on other talk shows so maybe she just wasn't game to get into this particular subject matter...? She was SO not gonna discuss her labia size on national TV, as Nikki did.

Even when the show is simply solid, it delivers plenty of laughs for me.  Last episode being a prime example.  Compared to the incredibly lackluster season of Amy Schumer's show, this has been a welcome twenty minutes of hilarity.  I liked the everywoman aspect of the orgasm study but I also would have loved if she had dragged some of her comedy buddies along.  Sort of a larger sipping coffee on vibrators bit.  Speaking of which I really want another of those.  I did like the gif (not a peanut butter no matter what the 'experts' and inventor says) segment and think that could be repeated nicely.

For the hell of it, I checked the Twitter for PartyBitchKayla. These were her last tweets from November 2016. I only remembered her last tweet, for the obvious reasons.

. . . and here's her last tweet, posted in November 2019:
