Sure enough at 7 20 am, Jonathan Lemire read Trump's statement. Mika was happy that he used the word spurned. Mika & Joe love the attention from President Trump.

Recap continued after a day of snow shoveling. We haven't had this much snow in Oakville in several years.

Mika discussed the hostage taking at a synagogue near Dallas. The hostage taker was killed & everyone else is safe. Biden said it was an act of terror. The hostage taker wanted a convicted terrorist known as Lady Al Queda released from prison. She tried to kill US soldiers.

His family apologized for taking hostages.

Joe had no comment on the story which is surprising.

Joe was excited for the next guest, Jonathan Alter who wrote President Carter's autobiography.

There are similarities between Carter & Biden.

Biden was the first senator to endorse Carter !

Clinton & Obama marginalized Carter at conventions because he had the smell of failure.

Carter & Biden are not superheroes. Expectations were too high for Democratic Presidents. Congress didn't listen to them.

Joe mocked Democrats for not realizing that West Virginia & Arizona aren't as liberal as other states.

Alter agreed with Joe !

Alter said there was a big revolt against Carter & was challenged by Senator Kennedy.

Joe said Reagan lost support in 1982 but recovered to win in 1984.

Bush Sr was popular till the economy collapsed. He would have won if the election happened a few months later.

Carter was in trouble in the last year of his Presidency.

Joe was careful not to mention Dr. Z's failed rescue attempt of the hostages in Iran  or the decision to offer medical assistance to the Shah which triggered the revolution.

Joe would be in the dog house if he said anything negative about Mika's dad.

Alter said the Cost of living allowances  in union wages hurt Carter .

Joe said the Camp David Accords stopped ground war in the Middle East & opened up to China.

Carter was opposed to a Russian invasion of Poland & turned over the Panama Canal to Panama.

Mika moaned in approval about Carter.

Joe praised Carter 's involvement in Afghanistan against the Soviets but forgot that the support for the Mujahaddin included helping Osama Bin Laden.

Joe's memory of those years is stunningly superficial:)

Mika was happy that Joe said that Dr Z helped Reagan.

Bamba turned 90. ! Mika had a huge cake for her !

Mika & Joe are wearing masks being close to Bamba.

Mika was holding a baby.

Mika said her mom inspired 50 over 50. Will Mika do a KYV for over 90 ?

Mika promoted her KYV . The winners will be named tomorrow !

Roger Bennet Soccer man was the next guest. I fast forwarded that segment

 The show is live at 8 am. It looks like Mika & Joe have to work an extra half hour each day.

Meacham discussed MLK's importance.

Rev Al said MLK was attacked by progressives& conservatives . He could have been more militant He was opposed to the war in Vietnam.

I tuned in for the conclusion of MJ, and my digital box said the MSNBC was on, but all I could hear was a Mika infomercial.  And very light on the “info” component.  Mikamercial?  

How is this acceptable on a supposed news show?

So much of the show nowadays is a Meekinfomercial. But freddi - Mikamercial sounds much catchier and on-the-mark. 😎

yeah tbh today and yesterday were boring.

More pedantic recitation of basic stuff rather than in-depth conversations that actually give ppl new insights.

Just to clarify, I'm not opposed to basic news it's just that I come to this show already knowing what it is, because I get it elsewhere first. here for depth, not for people reading out basics, ymmv

But for me I'm sticking with it this week bc I'm really really really excited for when the MJ Joe and Mika in Poland thingy is gonna happen that Mika was talking about. man oh man I'm literally dying for a change of scenery from this one. 

It's like when they had this unexpected burst of energy back in September and October last year and they did crazy shit like Mika in the rain in front of the white house, before they inexplicably decided to go bleak and dark and pedestrian for the December holiday season.

January is a really weird time to broadcast from Poland but omg I'll be here for it, just for the sheer novelty

I agree with you. The show has such a different feel when they are not broadcasting fromthe Jupiter bunker.

I hope Mika gets an exclusive interview with the new American ambassador to Poland. He comes from a very prominent family.

I am not trying to be a wet blanket about this…but.  Is there that much of a huge public interest in Forbes “50 over 50” campaign? There apparently is a “30 over 30” list, too. I understand the drive behind it; and I admire any woman who “makes it” in her chosen field; the acknowledgment is well-earned. But for an entire network to push this, to have it be such a huge part of any of their shows, actually amazes me.   Neona - did you know about the “30 over 30” list?

RIP André Leon Talley. I still specifically remember when he randomly showed up on Ari along with Katty kay. I mean i specifically remember it bc it was mid-pandemic and it cheered me up so much. I think i've seen the Gospel According to André about 20 times. He'll be missed.

yeah, there's a 30 under 30 list, not 30 over 30. It's pretty well-known. It's also pretty douchey, heh. And not specifically for women.

IIRC, NBC started funding KYV as a response to the fact that NBC employed many individuals that were accused of sexually harassing female co workers.

Matt Lauer, Tom Brokaw, Chris Matthews,Mark Halperin, Harold Ford Jr are the names that come to mind.

MSNBC fired Ronan Farrow because he wrote a book about Matt Lauer's alleged rape of a fellow NBC employee. If Ronan had stayed at MSNBC, he could have uncovered more scandals involving co workers.

The problem I have with KYV is that Mika is the spokesperson for the project.

It's sad to say but Mika would not even be of the network today if her boss had not had a romantic interest her in 2007.

I would have to review the entire list , but I am curious if Mika would allow anyone on her list that she publicly disagreed with.

Oakville - excellent post; I try to not let my lack of respect for Meeka color my views on everything Show. Thought maybe it is because I am decades, age-wise, from 50.

As for Joe. He is what he is and doesn’t really try to hide it. Plus, he has earned a place at the table in many respects - I don’t think anything was ever handed to him.

I do agree with you about Joe. Joe's parents were not wealthy. They ran beauty pageants for little kids around the country for many years. Joe didn't go to an Ivy league school.

Joe had a very limited legal career & was fortunate to win a seat in Congress in 1994 during the GOP landslide.

Joe was lucky that he was in Congress while Clinton was President.

Joe has turned his 6 years in Congress into a lucrative tv career.

I am amazed that he has been able to rebrand himself from fire breathing small government conservative who wanted to leave the UN ,into Washington insider with a wife that can get him into cocktail parties on the NY-DC circuit.

I am pretty sure that the 2022 version of Joe Scarborough would ridicule the 1994-2001 Joe Scarborough.

all their actual human selves are in studio in DC Rivendell today! I love when we get unexpected studio shows, it's like getting an upgrade on an airplane, the thing that was gonna be slog becomes an actual pleasure

Joe is yelling about Ukraine and I actually agree with him but man they are little tense and stressed. 

Willie is in the Hellscape, but it's a new and muchly improved Jefferson Memorial hellscape that actually doesn't cause optical injuries

Katty & Ed Luce both live in DC w Joe and Mika, our boy High-lemann zooming in

wow they just showed a clip on the show where they said voting rights don't matter because everyone will stand in line anyway in defiance? 

what is this, I feel like i just woke up and everyone has given up on the entirety of the future?

I'm just so tired, everyone has given up on everything. Can't we all regroup and try to be alive again and actually believe in the future

Mini recap Thursday.

Mika & Joe are in Washington. Joe said Biden's press conference went on too long.

Joe said he is mellow. Joe said too many prime time cable hosts are angry.

Mika's first gaffe occurred at 6 am. She botched the words voting rights. She called it rish which is not a word.

Joe does not support a minor invasion of Ukraine or Taiwan.

The UK duo of Katty Kay & Ed Luce joined Mika & Joe.

Joe's word of the day is " cleaned up"

I find it strange that Mika & Joe attended the swearing in ceremony of her brother as Ambassador to Poland.

Mika held the bible. Where was his wife ?

Joe told the story of Mika spilling caviar on Deng Xiaping.

Joe was upset that pundits are focused on Biden's poor poll numbers. Joe spent the entire Trump Presidency complaining about Trump's poor polls.

Joe should start taking Prevagen which the network constantly advertises.

I looked at her Instagram and saw this and thought the same thing! Who does that? That is always the wife's role, or child, or mother if not married. It's Mika being Mika...hooking her cart to others' success and fame. I would be livid if I was his wife...unless they split up because she fell in love with her boss? Stories about Mika's role in international affairs as an accident prone child have run their course, IMO.

I tuned in to see them together at the table. Always so surprising that they can sit side by side on screen anywhere but at their own home! Did she change her hair style during the show? I swear I first saw it pinned back...and later it was her normal look. Maybe I was over caffeinated later or something.

Since it was in the middle of the day, probably at work, like 99% of humanity? how is people being supportive of family members somehow bad. For me, this is a thing I actually respect, ymmv

Ahaha this I agree with. I'll never understand the ads they air, they are just universally AWFUL. There's a...very lengthy Viagra commercial with actual porn music in the background. Who, wants this? WHO?? at 6 a.m.??? it's awful and beyond creepy.

I think Mark's wife could probably get some time off to attend to her husband's swearing in ceremony. It's a big honor. It's possible that she was ill.

I do have a great deal of respect for the late Dr Z . He must be so happy to see his son becoming ambassador to Poland.

The show was live. They covered the death of Meat Loaf.

Elise Jordan was the special guest. She made fun of elected GOP Senators & Governors that went to ivy league schools but bashed elitists.

It amuses me that she used to work for Senator Rand Paul & President GW Bush.

Joe & Heilemann had a long discussion about Meat Loaf's music.

Barnicle is worried that people are focused on economic issues & not paying attention to the January 6th riots,

Mika & Joe were invited to the White House to witness Mika’s brother swearing in ceremony. Joe was in NYC on Friday. Mika flew to Warsaw on Friday.

Interesting to note that Mark’s bio page on the embassy website mentions his daughter by name, but not his wife or marriage status (some bios just say “married”, without any names).

I was as confused as everyone else why Mika was there.

I did enjoy watching Richard Haas on the show on Friday. He gave a detailed explanation of the situation in Ukraine. He said that Putin is desperate to invade Ukraine so that Russians stop complaining about the deaths from Covid & the poor economy . The Russian death rate from Covid is 5 times the amount that has been published. He also said that Germany made a big mistake when they shut down their nuclear power reactor. They rely on natural gas from Russia for energy.

The USA will send weapons to Ukraine & the plan is to train the Ukrainians to be insurgents like the USA did in Afghanistan when the Soviets invaded in 1978.

The show was live at 8 am.

It was a bit confusing, because the morning of Mark’s swearing in, Mika was in Washington and Joe was in Florida. Joe must have flown up to Washington right after the show to make it in time for the swearing in. Then, both Joe and Mika were in Washington the following day.

She was in DC through Thursday’s show and left for Poland after that. She is supposed to be doing the show from Poland next week.

I was surprised that Mark's swearing in ceremony was not the top story on the NBC evening news with Lester Holt . Poland is a key US ally in Europe. NBC employs one of the most influential ex congressmen of the 20th century.  Viewers of Morning Joe know that Joe convinced President Clinton to balance the budget while holding him accountable for his fling with Monica Lewinsky. The Joe Scarborough museum in Pensacola Florida is a top tourist attraction & the gift shop carries a wide selection of Joe`s hair care products.

Was Mika wearing actual pajamas today?  Just like yesterday?
Why on Earth is she in Poland?  She's hosting an American morning show in Poland at 3pm local time, and she still has no time to change out of her pajamas?
She's in Poland, got NBC to outfit her with a studio, set, tech assistance... and all she does is introduce guests, read copy, and kick it to commercial?   She doesn't take the fucking camera outside to do a "Look How Pretty Warsaw Is" puff piece with some 50 year old know your value lady who is famous in Warsaw?  Or a Polish celebrity?  Or a Polish politician?  Or one of her more fun family members?
She's just there.  Barely doing the least she can do?

Meeka is basically decorative. But I have to hand it to her -she is getting paid family leave. Isn’t Ari Emmanuel her (and Joe’s) agent? For some reason the network thinks we are all enamored with Meeka and her accomplishments.

I caught a few seconds of the show yesterday to see Mika reading a teleprompter from Warsaw. Dateline: Polish Ambassador's residence. Gotta say, it wasn't any different from Dateline: Jupiter FL kitchen.

Such a wasted opportunity. If she was an actual journalist/reporter, I would think she'd get off her ass and venture out into the public to get a feel for the Polish citizens' reactions regarding the looming Russia/Ukraine situation.

Pretty sure (but not certain) that Mika thanked someone yesterday for loaning her network’s studio to NBC for the broadcast. So I doubt there is any tech support for her to do anything other than read copy.

On the Mika flub front, I noticed on the story about the NJ toddler buying all the furniture, for some reason she referred to the family as living in Brooklyn (while the captions at the bottom of the screen accurately said NJ). They do not live in Brooklyn, and Brooklyn is not in NJ.
