Don't forget Maine !. Mika & Joe spent last summer in Maine.

I remember that Joe predicted that Susan Collins would be defeated in the Senate race based on his discussions with Maine insiders at the local ice cream store. Mika ended up taking the entire barrel of ice cream with her home to share with her daughter.

They showed a clip of Nancy Pelosi referring to Sen. Ron Johnson as "Don Johnson."  They think she did it in order to throw shade at Sen. Johnson.  But, since it's SO hilarious, they opened the show with the "Miami Vice" theme.  Joe laughed about the hilarious pop culture reference.

Joe says that the Capitol police have warned of extremist threats.

Joe continues to refer to Crockett and Tubbs and how they would respond at the Capitol.  Joe said we have to keep the fences up to defend the Capitol.  He thinks Ron Johnson and Rand Paul are ignoring the dangers.

Halperin asked Joe if he ever wore a peach suit like Don Johnson.  Joe claimed that he never wore peach suits.  Let's get real, Joe wishes he could hold Don Johnson's jock.

Hey Joe, the Miami Vice references are dated and are not cool anymore.  I'm in my late 40's and I have vague memories of watching Miami Vice at age 12.  My point is that any MSNBC viewer under about 45 has no clue what Joe is talking about.  That means that it's not cool.

Mika ranted at Mitchell McConnell for saying that he would support Trump if he ran again.  She used the cry voice.  Mika seems very emotional.

Thank you for explaining this, and I am over 45!  I thought there was some new ominous news and that the new opening was a dark “breaking news” image.  Very confusing.

And Mika is squeaking a series of “You SAID” and “You SAID” over and over.  Guess it’s her turn to emote.

It appears to mean different things at different times and the meaning also depends on who says it.

Rejuvenation/maintenance is one possibility. Might be a chemical peel, or changing the saline in the implants. Or a spa day with her mom.

It's odd that Joe mentioned it because that phrase has been on the forbidden list since he snapped at her a few years ago, saying he was sick and tired of hearing it.

There are various versions of the backstory, sometimes she was held against her will by the son of a middle eastern ambassador to the US in the south of France. Or she went willingly and didn't know topless sunbathing was expected, sometimes he looked at porn, the innuendo varied. Usually it sounded like she got in over her head by not setting boundaries and thought she could giggle her way out of it.

oakville would remember.

She started talking about it as usual one morning and Joe went off! It was ugly. I haven't heard it referenced  since forever but I don't watch every day like I did years ago.

Ha! I bet the Queen of that 50 over 50 bullshit has no clue, either. Was that the robe in a new color today?

"therefore I won't hear Mika say Febairy again while announcing the date until next year."

Ugh, suomi! I am not that optimistic about there even being a next year for these two. I would so like a change for this time slot.

I'm so jealous of High-lemann's hotel room view...damn.

That story about people "supporting" Neera Tanden by harassing a WaPo reporter is so depressing. Wtf is wrong with people

so is Miami Vice any good? asking because I've watched the whole of Netflix. All. of. it. I don't really mind when Joe and Willie go off on obscure nerd tangents, it's cute haha

Neona, You found the infamous clip ! It seems like Dr Z wanted to set Mika up with one of the sons of President Gemayel. This would have happened between 1983-1987 . It was probably Pierre since he was born in 1972. Mika was supposed to go to the South of France , ( St Tropez) to be an au/pere/babysitter for the Gemayel family. Pierre liked Mika & probably suggested she go topless when they were at the beach.

There should be a list of friends of Morning Joe that have been banned from the show. I remember when Pat Buchanan was kicked off the show.

Mika & Joe protested but the network refused to let him back on.

I'm 63 and I've never seen Miami Vice.  But I understand many cultural references to times before I was born, and unless they really are the clueless, self-absorbed millennials and post-millennials the stereotype suggests, maybe younger viewers do, too.

That last is really more telling.  It's not the Twins who don't want Halperin; it's the network.  Halperin's never coming back to MSNBC.  If they brought him back, the hue and cry would be deafening.

Miami Vice was one the coolest shows on TV when I was in high school in 1986. It was set in Miami with cool "MTV style " cops. The show had a very popular sound track. The show was so influential that the wardrobe that pastel colored clothes that Don Johnson wore on the show became the fashion rage. There are pictures of me wearing a white blazer with pink socks which I have hidden from my children, so they don't embarrass me.

The show had very good guest stars & I really liked Edward James Olmos as the police captain.

I would definitely watch it again.

this actually sounds amazing. I am in favor of bringing this back. i'd pay actual money to watch Joe and Willie do the show in peach suits. Also, oakville, you need to make that pic your avatar. Your kids will never know!!

Speaking of friends of the show, what happened to Harold Ford Jr...wasn't he actually cleared of the metoo allegations? it's strange they never brought him back.

ETA: this is the cheesiest show I've ever seen. It's awesome.

It was steadily downhill after he lost the Senate race. He shoulda stayed in the House where he served five terms, which was good enough for his dad for eleven terms!

Morgan Stanley bungled his dismissal by acknowledging the harassment claim before it was reduced to he said, she said. They had enough to fire him before that but never pulled the trigger and then boxed themselves into a public statement that did them no favors.

He landed the MS gig because of nepotism (wife's stepfather), was widely seen as abrasive, didn't live up to expectations as a rainmaker, couldn't keep assistants and was on final written notice for repeatedly abusing his expense account.

He lost his protection when his 'godfather' resigned and his office was downsized and moved from the 39th floor (just below executive level) to the 6th floor. Then, although the night in question didn't rise to harassment, he lied to HR about important details.

All of that was revealed by the harassment claim so he was dirtied up enough that even Joe and Mika couldn't vouch for him by bringing him back although surely they want to.

Exhibit A - - > they went to bat for Halperin. 😞

Also, he didn't wear socks.  He and Tubbs were so cool.  I loved that show.

Also, I'd watch it with my kid brother and he'd make googly eyes 🤓  at the two ladies in bikinis.

He's a fairly regular panelist on Fox News' Bret Baier's show. Plays the dissenting voice role, but meekly. Running a new SPAC at PNC where he's a vice president. Doing much, much better financially than if he'd stayed in politics. Pretty well connected, on boards, etc.

You've all given me a lot to unpack here and I thank everyone who responded.

And - no judgment - Mika's comportment here is positively SNL-ish. I prefer watching them pretend to be in different parts of DC.

I suspect that Joe preferred watching the Dukes of Hazzard.

One scene in Miami Vice (I think it might be in the first episode)makes me chuckle today. Crockett and Tubbs stop Crockett’s car in the middle of a causeway over Biscayne Bay, get a small suitcase sized box out of the back of the car, and it’s a phone! They then make a call from the middle of the causeway with no wires attached! - for no apparent reason except to show off this cool new technology.

Just watched it and whenever they cut mika out of the picture I knew pointless yelling was coming, so I just skipped ahead a coupla minutes till I could see mika again - this actually worked really well!!

and I could also skip the intellectual torture and life-force vampirism of the fucking Former Guy footage, so win-win.

Well well well.  There may be good news about their "Fellowship" or whatever made-up public relations hype they have helped create for themselves....it could signal they are moving the "studio" back to New York?  Also...I can see where many "days off" will be accumulated.  It could  signal that the two of them are thirsty enough and ego-driven enough to think they don't need the show anymore....they are golden, no matter where they go.  Bless them. We wait.

Do we think that Meeka is naive enough to think that she would have all of "this" without riding Joe's coattails?  That she would be anywhere in the news business or on the tee vee without Joe?  Do we think that?  Well yes, most of us do.  Bless us.

I do think that Joe is envious of people that went to Ivy League schools. He does have a good argument about Senator Cruz & Senator Hawley going to Ivy League schools & pretending to be working class anti elites.

He may also be envious of Mika who bragged that she got into Williams College with the lowest SAT scores in her class & having Dr Z help her write her admittance essay when she applied to the school.

You are correct, he certainly does have a good argument.  Joe talking about his educational background has nothing to do with Joe's soliloquy that he's just a plain folks southern boy.  His education ha(d)s nothing to do with Cruz, Hawley and Kennedy's unacceptable behavior.  He was just putting forth his plain folks image, in a way quite similar to Cruz, Hawley and Kennedy.  Joe wants to be thought of as my neighbor one moment and as a Congressman, Attorney and Political guru at others.

Didn't someone at CPAC say that the Republican party was not a bunch of Country Club people, while the leader of the party lives at a Country Club was also arguable?  Maybe it was Charlie Sykes.  It's beginning to be difficult to be Republican when nothing Republicans believe in is real.

I am pretty sure that Joe campaigned as an outsider from  "Good Old Boy from Florida -Alabama" with a degree from the University of Roll Tide when he ran for Congress in 1994. The longtime  incumbent Democratic congressman had decided to retire, so the seat was vacant.

He ran against President Clinton -Ivy Elite who had raised taxes & wanted to provide socialized  healthcare.

In the past few years , he has argued that "Washington always wins" & that Presidents that ran as "outsiders" such as Clinton,Bush,Obama & Trump have failed because they don't understand how "Washington" works.

I think Joe likes to be known as a Washington insider because he loves that so many world leaders call him everyday to ask him for advice on politics.

Tuesday mini recap. Mika decided to spare viewers seeing her in her awful sci- fi bathrobes & wore a black cardigan with a fushia top. They played a clip of Dr Fauci in March 2020 warning about the Coronavirus. He warned about teleworking & schools closing on a temporary basis.

Joe is still wearing a blue wrinkled shirt.

Mika said Wow!. Joe blamed President Trump for not being honest about the pandemic in early March 2020 . Trump told Bob Woodward that the virus would be a killer virus.

Joe said that Joe Biden had written an op ed about the USA not being prepared for a pandemic.

I believe that I have written this recap several times since last year.

Mika briefly read a statement about Gov Cuomo being accused of sexual harassment by a third woman at a wedding & some Democrats are calling him to resign.

Will the show have a discussion about Cuomo? Long time viewers of Morning Joe remember Joe's battle with the Governor's brother, Chris in 2016. Joe did not like being called a "Trump booster" a campaign spokesperson for Trump.

https://thehill.com/media/310705-scarborough-escalates-feud-with-unhinged-chris-cuomo

Mika asked Joe for his opinion on President Trump's speech at CPAC.  Joe said the speech was flat & he used a TelePrompter.

Can Trump can read a TelePrompter better than Mika ?

Joe blasted Trump for going offscript & talking about conspiracy theories.

Joe applauded Bernie Sanders & AOC for helping Joe Biden during the election.

Joe said Democrats are acting like a governing majority.

Joe called the Republicans a party of grievances & Jesters. Will they make Festivus a national holiday Christmas ?
