laredhead February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 Good episode tonight. I enjoyed all of the old movie clips and each character's Valentine Day disaster story. Now, wonder why Abby is still in Hawaii, but telling Chin she in San Francisco. The plot thickens. 2 Link to comment
BW Manilowe February 13, 2016 Author Share February 13, 2016 (edited) I thought it was a good--& funny, at least in places--ep too. It kinda figures, of all the various & sundry members of the Five-0 team & their extended ohana, Max would be the only 1 with an uncomplicated romance. It was nice to see that he & Sabrina are apparently still involved, even if Rumer Willis wasn't in the ep (& I do hope we see her in the role again sometime). For everyone who might not have heard, the lady who played Duke's wife, Nalani Lukela, in the scene with Chin, the very small towel & the very big public embarrassment, was/is Dennis Chun (Duke)'s real life partner, a Honolulu artist (but not a professional actress) named Laura Mellow. The Five-0 Redux blogger (weekly discussion of each week's ep when new eps air; discussion of other aspects of the show when repeats/no eps air) for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser wrote about the scene involving Dennis Chun & his real life partner in last week's blog post. Here's the link if anyone's interested in their story of working in the ep together & how it all came about. http://www.staradvertiser.com/features/five-0-redux/chun-and-mellow-share-their-aloha/ Edited February 13, 2016 by BW Manilowe 4 Link to comment
dwmarch February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 I had a feeling that since this was more about everyone's Valentines Day rather than about a particular case that the details of the case would fall by the wayside and sure enough. Chin keeps his pimp hand strong. I admire that, even though I know he was mostly kidding at the end there. Abby's doing some secret agent shit behind a 5-0 member's back? Let's hope it works out better than last time. I wasn't sure what to make of Chef Morimoto's random appearance. He's done all the favors he can do for 5-0 in a day so Grover has to wait? Also, wouldn't this be a corruption investigation in real life? The governor's special police task force is able to bump the reservations of people who have been waiting months for a table at an exclusive restaurant. The next day, the famous head chef goes to the house of one of the task force members and personally cooks dinner for him! Steve gives Danny a hard time for knowing his lingerie but towards the end of the episode is pretty specific about what kind of heel his girl was throwing at him. Maybe Danny's not the only one with a fetish? However, having said that I can easily believe Steve being the type that wouldn't care if his gal was wearing the sexiest outfit in the world; he'd be more concerned with what she looks like out of it. Also, since lingerie is designed specifically for male appeal does it even count as a fetish? Danny didn't seem to think so.And when one goes to a Victoria's Secret store are you really greeted by model-quality beauties who are actually wearing the lingerie that they sell? I can see them hiring beautiful women, absolutely. But having them wear the lingerie to work seems like it would be asking a little much in the real world. 1 Link to comment
biakbiak February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 I thought this show was sad, lame and writers not even phoning it in. I felt bad for everyone involved that this was an actual produced episode of television that way too much money was spent on. 2 Link to comment
Clanstarling February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 (edited) Well, my Valentine's Day gift was the extended scene with Daniel in his itty bitty towel. Thank you show! There was some story too...wasn't there? LOL Edited February 13, 2016 by clanstarling 5 Link to comment

betsyboo February 13, 2016 Share February 13, 2016 1. the full 90 seconds of helicopter beach porn before the shrimp truck scene, coupled with the cartoon valentines, made this ep about 35 mins. 2. I am a full-on hand waver. Proud of it. Esp for a show that continually (continuously?) shows the guys shirtless (not a complaint). HOWEVER. AGAIN I SAY HOWEVER. Did we really just watch an ep with NO mention of Grover's time in Chicago? Are we to infer he walked away unscathed??? Even with the "unlawful imprisonment" of the girlfriend???? 3. HARRUMPH 4 Link to comment
MissLucas February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 He! I dumped the whole Chicago episode in the trash-bin with the label: 'Did not happen!' Agreed, that tourist baiting at the end was beautiful - show knows its strongest asset (okay second-strongest asset after guys sans shirts). And going with the shallow theme: Jerry's online-date is an incredible catch. Not a blink when the male eye-candy at that table left when she asked for Jerry. 2 Link to comment
Clanstarling February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 I liked that Jerry's date didn't blink - also that her T-Shirt was about aliens (I've forgotten exactly what it said), hinting that Jerry might have found his soul mate. Of course...soul mates tend to live short lives or disappear on this show. 2 Link to comment
ByaNose February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 Overall, it was a good story. It was crafted pretty well with the weaving in and out of the Valentine's stories. I will say that Chin had the smallest towel I've ever seen. He's in better shape than O'Laughton & Cann. I still want Steve's house with that great view on the beach. If someone could provide me the address and price I would certainly appreciate it. LOL!!! 1 Link to comment
Artsda February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 I enjoyed it! Liked everyone's Valentine flashbacks and disasters, fun way to tie in the case and the holiday. I can see them hiring beautiful women, absolutely. But having them wear the lingerie to work seems like it would be asking a little much in the real world. They don't walk around in lingerie. I also don't think they'd just be handing over personal information like the credit card purchases of customers just like that too. Not in the store, that would need a warrant and go to corporate. 1 Link to comment
wanderingstar February 14, 2016 Share February 14, 2016 It's been ages since I watched this show, but I was home and realized it was on. Cute episode. The Valentine's Day disaster stories were amusing, and they managed to weave in the case of the week pretty well. Someone on this staff loves them some Coldplay. 3 Link to comment

If Victoria's Secret employees were forced to wear lingerie they would have been subject to a class action lawsuit years ago. The dress code at a store I walked past fairly frequently in Hong Kong is black slacks and blazers. Sure, they're fitted tightly and the employees are all slim and attractive young women, but the dress code is still pretty conservative. 1 Link to comment

It's called the Bayer Estate & is used as a venue for events, such as weddings. At least when Five-0 doesn't actually need to shoot on site (& they recreated certain interiors/rooms from the house, like the room used for Steve's bedroom, at the studios long ago, though they also filmed some interiors there in the early eps). It's on the Kalanianiole Highway, in the Aina Haina (as they said in 1 ep of the show) section of Honolulu. Here's the link to the website for it: http://www.bayerestate.com/ The Bayer Estate may be on Kalanianiole Highway, but in the show (both the original & current versions) McGarrett lives at 2727 Pi'ikoi Street. That was mentioned in the S1 ep about General Pak--the Asian Dictator Five-0 has to protect while he's attending a Summit Meeting in Honolulu, as I remember, who it turns out is also seeking political asylum in the US with his family. By the way, these were probably just typos, but it's O'Laughlin, not O'Laughton, & Caan, with 2 A's & 1 N. 2 Link to comment

blackwing February 16, 2016 Share February 16, 2016 I thought this show was sad, lame and writers not even phoning it in. I felt bad for everyone involved that this was an actual produced episode of television that way too much money was spent on. I agree. I was embarrassed for all of the actors. I know the Valentine's Day disaster stories were supposed to be cute and fun, but I didn't find any of this episode enjoyable. The only thing that I thought was a nice touch was when we saw Grover's point of view during his story approaching Danny's house and seeing an argument, and then later on when it was Danny's point of view telling his story, we see Grover outside the house at the end. That was a nice bit of continuity to try and tie things together. I guess I don't pay close enough attention to this show, because the only dates I recognised were the police lady from San Francisco and Mrs. Grover. I know it has only been a few episodes, but they could have substituted any blonde actress for the ones that played Steve's girlfriend from the deserted island disaster episode, and Danny's not-often-seen girlfriend who I last remember from the "Steve and Danny trapped underground" episode, and I wouldn't have known at all. I am surprised to find that I would have preferred to have seen Australian lawyer again instead of Blonde Barbie for Steve. Not sure why they seem to have dropped her completely from the picture. And I agree with others that it's a bit surprising that there was not one mention of the "Chicago incident", not even by Mrs. Grover. They could have done a throwaway line about how he was trying to make things up to her after being out of town. It's almost as if this episode was shot out of order and shoehorned in to fit into the Valentine's Day airing. 2 Link to comment

I couldn't tell them apart from each other - I have a form of blindness called "TV long haired blond blindness" (would have added "bimbo" purely for alliteration's sake, but spared it so I wouldn't offend any real-life long haired blond on the forum. Basically, unless they have some major distinguishing characteristic, my eyes just don't focus enough to recognize them. I thought Steve's date was the Aussie lawyer? Didn't the date have an accent? I rest my case - LHBB strikes again. 1 Link to comment

I *am* a long haired blonde, but even I am confused. :-)) However, the Valentine's date was the deserted island girl. The lawyer that was friends with McGarrett senior hasn't been seen in a bit. She (IMO) is a much better fit for Steve. But - seeing as how we established deserted island girl as rebound girl, i'm ok with it for now. 2 Link to comment
JessDVD February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 Oh please, Lord, do not let Abby be involved in any way, shape or form with Gabriel. Just no. Just no. Writers, you have done this enough. Find some new material, like letting people be happy in a relationship for longer than 10 seconds! I could go for more episodes in which Chin walks around in a tiny towel though. Was that Amber/Melissa with Danny? It took me until her second appearance to figure out that Steve's person is the one from the hiking episode. Show did not compel me to feel a single feel over Kono watching her wedding video and crying. Link to comment

You really didn't feel badly for Kono that she had to spend her first Valentine's Day as a married woman watching her wedding video to be able to see/"be with" her husband because he was doing 18 months in Hālawa for a crime he said he committed which probably really was excusable as self-defense? ganesh February 20, 2016 Share February 20, 2016 (edited) I think Valentine's day is dumb. Why is the onus always on the guy? I'm not a cop, but even I know when you have to dash out of the hotel room you just flip the latch so the door doesn't close all the way. I don't mind a show that doesn't have much action going on and you want to use something like a stakeout in order to do some character studies, but it was mostly cliche. I don't get the thing with Steve and Victoria's Secret. I'm not much of a lingerie guy, but, it's not like guys don't buy it for their wives/gfs. /shallow But GP was looking smoking hot. It's good to see romance isn't dead. No! Only our victim. Edited February 20, 2016 by ganesh 1 Link to comment

If you wanna keep Kono on the show, I don't think "go be with Fong" is the way to go since the character hasn't been on the show since at least S4, in the ep where fictional talk show hostess Savannah Walker did her show from Hawaii for a week, ending with a show on "a day in the life" of Five-0. It would seem they've written the Fong character out (Brian Yang, the actor who played him, is producing movies, including the documentary Linsanity about Asian NBA Superstar Jeremy Lin--when he was playing for the NY Knicks--which was narrated by Daniel Dae Kim; I think he mentioned on Twitter recently that he'd also gotten married). Every time they talk about sending something to the crime lab for analysis--as they did in last night's ep--when a tech is mentioned by name now, they talk about sending it to (Danny's nephew) Eric. So I'm getting the feeling Fong may be gone for good (but I don't mind Eric). 1 Link to comment

It may partially be because actress Lindsay Price--who played her--& her husband, celebrity chef/restauranteur/cookbook author/TV & Food Network personality Curtis Stone have 2 sons, who are ages 4 & 1 (the pregnancy with the youngest child might've also had to do with the long gap between her first & second appearances, I'm not sure). I'm not sure she has/had another extended role on her plate which would've necessitated her leaving H50. She might've also gotten busy with her family because I think her husband travels a lot, at least between NYC & LA, for his work because many of his national TV appearances are done on the NYC-based shows.
