Congratulations are in order! Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello married in a fun, family-filled Palm Beach, Fla., ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 22, and the pair celebrated their nuptials with a large gathering of loved ones.

Vergara, 43, stunned in a custom-made, fairy-tale gown designed by Beirut-born designer Zuhair Murad. (The designer has previously outfitted the Modern Family star for the Oscars and the Golden Globes), and Manganiello, 38, looked dashing in a John Varvatos tux.

Among the famous faces in the crowd were Hollywood pals Reese Witherspoon, Vergara’s Modern Family costar Julie Bowen, and Manganiello’s Magic Mike megahunks including Matt Bomer. Vergara’s son Manolo, 23, was also in attendance.

 

The pair, who got engaged last December after six months of dating, had wanted the fete to be a big celebratory bash, and told Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year that they had invited 400 guests.

 

“We’re very excited,” Vergara told Kimmel back in September. “We’ll kind of keep it a little private, but it’s been kind of impossible because people have been very excited in my family. It’s like 400. It was very hard [to cut down]. We said, ‘200 for you, 200 for me,’ but my 200 is like family, so I couldn’t invite many of my friends.”

 

Logistics aside, however, the actress wanted more than anything for her guests to enjoy themselves.

 

“I want a wedding where guests are going to have fun,” she told Martha Stewart Weddings in August. “It’s about creating memories that you’re always going to cherish. That’s what’s important.”

Looking at those couple of pictures indicates that, while I'm sure having fun and creating cherished memories was important, the pageantry seemed to be a dominant factor just based on the dress and setting alone.

Has Modern Family Hit the Proverbial Sitcom Wall?

I think he could have been far more critical to try to prove his point.

I mean Andrew and Hailey's relationship added a much needed "will they won't they" spark to the show?  Really?

And, arguably, at least Ross and Rachel had chemistry at one point and a majority of the audience rooted for them.  I don't know anyone (aside from a few stragglers on these boards, heh) that enjoys the Haley/Andy pairing.  There's just nothing there.  And it's not because of Dylan because, while I liked the character, I never expected him to be end game for Haley, he was her rebellious teen boyfriend.  I really can't imagine casting coming up with the Andy character at all, much less as a love interest for Haley.

Ross and Rachel were set up as the main romantic pairing of the series literally from the first episode. (The gang is hanging out in the coffee shop and Rachel runs in wearing her wedding dress and Ross is smitten and remembers his crush on her from high school.) Their "will they or won't they" lasted 2+ seasons before they got together officially, so much of the show revolved around the two of them.

 

How is that in any way similar to Haley and Andy? He was a minor character introduced in season 5 (? I forget). He's a far, far cry from being an indispensable cast member. Their romance has had a few episodes of "will they or won't they" but it's not exactly a main feature of the show.

Ariel has graduated highschool with attending her prom, ceremony and having a graduation party. She's attending UCLA in the fall.

I agree with you.  It really is atrocious, and so inappropriate for a high school graduation party.  She looks like she's auditioning to be a porn star.

I always wondered if she manipulated the emancipation thing because she didn't like having to follow her parents'/mom's rules.  Didn't she have a much older boyfriend and felt oppressed because she had curfews and stuff?  I know she claimed abuse, but was there incontrovertible evidence to support that?   If not, I suppose she and her mother are the only ones who really know what happened.  Hopefully it wasn't just a case of mom trying to control and out of control child.   I wonder if it's difficult for a teenager in the entertainment industry, who wants to be free from parental constraints, to find a sympathetic judge?

Disclaimer:  I suffered through weeks of the abysmal Maddie emancipation plotline in Nashville... so I may be extra doubtful after watching Maddie basically destroy her loving family because she wanted to get her way.

I've also wondered if Modern Family - casting Alex as the frumpy, less attractive sister - has contributed to what seems to be an exaggerated need to present herself in an inappropriate, hyper-sexualized manner.  It's like she's trying so hard to show the public, "Look at me, I am sexy!"

Too bad she doesn't have better adult guidance.  She could use someone to rein in her bad instincts and choices.  Her sister doesn't seem to be up to the task.  I sure hope she gets some good advice from someone who isn't afraid to tell her the truth... before she heads down a really bad path.

Sara Jessica Parker went through this.  She said that she had to convince people that she was hot and sexy, because she did not have the typical leading actress good looks.

The sad thing is Ariel is quite pretty, no matter what clothes she wears.

She only got away from her mom, she has a relationship with her father. The courts also had to have proof of her mother's actions against her. It's not like Ariel's running around with no responsibility partying it up. She went to prom, she attended and graduated high school and got into UCLA all while also working insane hours of Modern Family. 

A lot of other teen celebs wouldn't bother with school or wanting to go to college when making the amount of money Ariel is. I don't think rules is an issue for her.

I am seriously sick of reading about her everytime I log into yahoo and facebook.  Her latest instagram pics, entertainment tonight coverage, her dress (which, I agree, is awful.  And not because it shows off her ample, uhhh.....assets, but because it just ugly), her in a bikini.  Seriously, I don't care.  Its over the top and annoying.  She, or her publicist, or someone, needs to tone it down about 8 notches.

Seriously?  Because I can recall seeing SJP in movies and TV shows all the way back to Footloose, I have always thought she was pretty attractive.  (Despite everyone calling her "horseface".  I have never understood that criticism)

 

Sure there was that Square Pegs TV show and she was geeky and weird then, but she was what, 12 or something?  Maybe after that I guess.  But everyone goes through an awkward preteen/early teen phase.  At least since her teenage Footloose days though I have always thought she was a fairly typical thin, attractive female

Are you male or female?  In my experience, males have always found SJP attractive for the most part and women are ultra critical of her because she does not have "conventionally pretty" small, even facial features like, say, Heidi Klum.  But she has exotic looks, a killer body and wild blonde hair which is something I think men appreciate more than the perfect face so she was always thought attractive by them, so that's my 2 cents.

As for Ariel, I agree that her overexposure (pun intended I guess) is a turnoff, as is her inconsistency in wanting to be taken seriously and then wearing that porn star dress and posting it on instagram for example.

Modern Family books Nathan Fillion, Martin Short for season 8

Modern Family was part of a question on UK quiz show 'Pointless' this week.

The basis of the quiz is that they ask 100 people a question, and you have to guess the least popular answer, or hopefully one which no one has said at all, meaning your answer is 'Pointless' It's a sort of reverse Family Feud.

Anyway, it was round on sitcom siblings. They showed a pictures of the casts of various sitcoms with one actor blanked out, and you had to name the actor. For the Modern Family pic, they blanked out Sarah Hyland. She was indeed, a pointless answer, meaning not one of the 100 people they asked could name her. Poor Sarah.

I personally still enjoy the show and the DVDs of previous seasons got me through a terrible flu that I had last week and I am hoping the show continues on for a long time with the entire cast.

When Steve Levitan shouts “wrap” on Modern Family's season eight finale on Friday, the cast will be without contracts to continue.

Despite the Emmy-winning comedy’s still-significant ratings, sources say its studio, 20th Century Fox Television, has yet to begin negotiating with the show’s six stars — Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Jessie Tyler Ferguson and Ed O’Neill — for a not-yet-ordered though all-but-inevitable ninth season. The hold-up, two insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter: a fight between 20th TV and host network ABC over the cost of the long-running show. 

This far into a series’ run, the network (rather than the studio) traditionally funds most of production as part of its licensing agreement; though just how much is currently in question. In the case of Modern Family, that price tag is hefty, thanks in large part to the already rich salaries being paid to the award-winning ensemble. In its eight season, which is now airing, the stars of Levitan (who is directing the season finale) and Christopher Lloyd’s hit half-hour are said to be making roughly $350,000 per episode as well as getting a cut of the series’ profits. They will no doubt demand considerably more to continue. Both the network and studio, which technically have until mid-May to make a decision about the show's fate, declined to comment. 

Those cast paychecks became public ahead of Modern Family’s fourth season, when all six actors banded together and sought sizable raises. That process was neither quick nor civil, with heated talks prompting a lawsuit (the actors sued 20th TV to get out of their contracts, which they claimed violated California's law against deals lasting more than seven years) during the summer of 2012. Ultimately, the cast reached a deal that included back-end profits (a new perk for all but O’Neill) and significantly more money with each passing season; in exchange, the actors agreed to add an eighth season to their collective contracts. Later that same summer, the child stars inked raises of their own.

Modern Family’s significance to both its studio and network shouldn't be underestimated. In its eight season, the series may be down from its early years, but still it's ABC's top-rated show — and primetime's No. 2 comedy — with an average 4.0 rating among the key 18-to-49 demo. That prolonged success has translated to ad revenue, too, with 30-second spots reportedly selling for more than $200,000 this season. For 20th TV, the series is not only a calling card to help lure other creators to the studio, but a billion-dollar property courtesy of rich syndication deals with outlets including USA.

Earlier this month, reports in THR and elsewhere revealed that another long-running juggernaut (and the only comedy outrating Modern Family), The Big Bang Theory, was nearing a deal to continue after intense conversations between CBS and studio Warner Bros. TV. Key castmembers — which Modern Family's actors reportedly turned to as a model to negotiate their raises three and a half years ago — were poised to secure new contracts and the series a renewal. Multiple observers suggest they'd be shocked if ABC and 20th TV ultimately don't do the same. After all, it would be hard to believe that the network or the studio associated with the genre's other runaway hit would be ready to walk away.

Yeah, it's like everyone else got a different invite.  It was kind of like when in Bridget Joan's Diary, where Bridgette went to a party as a playboy bunny and found out everyone else was told they had dropped the costume theme.

I know this article is from a while back, but is there anyone else who would be totally fine if this show DIDN'T come back next year? I feel like it's run its course. With the graduation of Luke and Manny from high school, all the kids will officially now be too old for the show to really incorporate all the family like it used to. They already had a hard time finding stuff for Alex to do this season considering she was supposed to be away at college most of the time. 

It's strange that ABC is considering spinoffs of "The Goldbergs" and "Black-ish" and not Modern Family though. Although I guess there's not really a spinoff that would be all that interesting. The only character I can think of that would really work as a spinoff would be Haley; I guess if it was a show that focused on her working in the fashion world that might work. That sounds kind of like something that should air on Freeform rather than ABC though.

I'm happy about the 2-season renewal, albeit with some reservations. 1) Not sure how much actual plot material is left to explore. 2) Manny and Luke need to be written off. Their characters are repulsive horny sexist Nice Guys™ and the two of them cannot act. They're not funny, they're not natural, they just plain suck. 3) Lily and Joe are not exactly comedic powerhouses either.

Focus the show on the adults and Haley and Alex. Then maybe 2 seasons will be justified.

I would like it focused on the adults and Lily.   I really dislike Haley.

Sarah Hyland posted this on her Twitter which confirms what many speculated about here, that she had some medical issues this year that definitely affected her physical appearance. She says that she is on prednisone which explains the puffy face she had in several episodes late in the season. It seemed like near the very end of the season she looked more like she normally does so hopefully the medication is working for her.  I feel really bad for her but admire her willingness to talk about this rather private matter.
