Code Black In the Media

Episode description for episode 14, "The Fifth Stage":

Leanne goes to a prison to finally confront the drunk driver who killed her family. Also, Malaya begins to feel uncomfortable around her patient, Gordon Heshman (Jesse Bradford).

Episode description for episode 15, “Diagnosis of Exclusion”

The doctors are questioned following a violent incident inside the hospital that leaves two doctors gravely injured. Also,

Neal and Christa make their relationship to the next level after officially disclosing their romantic relationship to HR, on CODE BLACK,

The hidden part does spoil a specific development that happens in episodes 13 and 14, better to be safe than sorry.

Disclosing to HR? Wow, I don't think it's something I heard about resident/attending relationship on TV for a looong time. Also, they're together, no soapy drama no will they-won't they, I love it please don't ruin it!

I am literally speechless. I thought this week's promo was good but I am definitely going to be watching for next week eagerly. I finally get my wish of Raza shirtless! I know the honeymoon won't last for long, but I will take it.

In case you're wondering why the Neal/Crista hook-up happened now:

Meagan Good is emerging from the rubble of Fox’s Minority Report and heading straight for CBS.

The actress, who also starred in NBC’s short-lived Deception, is joining Code Black in a recurring role, TVLine has learned. First appearing in the medical drama’s Feb. 10 episode, Good plays Dr. Grace Adams, an uninhibited doctor fresh off a year of humanitarian work in Haiti.

Oh, did we forget to mention her character is also the former flame of Raza Jaffrey’s Neal? Yikes.

I saw that. So much for a drama free relationship. As long as they don't massacre this like they did my last TV ship (Captain Swan from Once Upon a Time), I'm good.

I also saw a promo out there of Gina kissing Neal and Christa seeing it, but didn't see it in the past episode. Maybe they decided to pull this storyline because it was ridiculous? And since this show may not be renewed, they went for a more realistic road block with an ex girlfriend.

I saw the article, and since for now the writers hit all the right notes, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

If the show isn't renewed, I hope they won't ruin everything in the last episodes after doing so well, so I can binge on it as a perfect "event series", like they say nowadays, from time to time. If it's renewed (fingers crossed) I hope they won't turn me off watching the new season by destroying my favorite character.

The worst thing would be for Neal to waffle between two women, and it would be even worse considering where his relationship with Christa is at this point. He's Prince Charming, he can be flawed but he can't lack integrity imo. His relationship with Christa is based on trust and respect, and it would destroy him in my eyes if he broke that, especially for or because of another woman. Moreover, after what she went through, I don't see Christa being able to stand any kind of bullshit.

I hope that the show will be smarter than this, and pull off a Mike, if you see what I mean (worrying/cliché premise, excellent/original execution). Do a Teddy/Cristina thing with the new girl and Christa, where they'd become a good team, for example. And above all, stress the "former" of  "former flame" and use it to reinforce the commitment between Neal and Christa.

Wait, what? Wut? Really? Did they nix it, then?

I don't see at all how it could fit with the description of the episodes to come

plus, again, I bet that Gina is the one who pays the ultimate price

. I know that Neal is dreamy but they're not going to give him a harem, right?

Oh wow, this is typically the kind of soapy drama that would have turned me off the show. I didn't see that promo, thankfully (for which episode was it? I didn't find anything like this on the spoiler sites). This is kind of worrying, I hope they won't do the same thing with the new character.

Well, she starts in episode 16, so at least I can enjoy 14 and 15 without concern.

Its an old promo for the series (not for a specific episode) from the beginning of Nov. I think if we did not see the scene by now they will probably not use it at all, so I would not worry about it to much.

Till now I was pleasantly surprised by the writes with the neal and christa relationship so I hope they will be able to pull off the former flame with out any real triangle, maybe just a little angst

Thanks!

I think they had the order for the back five episodes in mid-November. If that scene was in the promo around that time, then it should have been part of episodes from 1 to 13. Indeed, then there shouldn't be much to worry about. Phew.

Well of course she is!  I'm disappointed but not surprised.  We can't really have a relationship without uneasiness can we?

Description for Episode 16, Hail Mary:

“Hail Mary” – Christa becomes insecure in her new relationship with Neal when his ex-girlfriend, Dr. Grace Adams (Meagan Good), returns to Angels Memorial after spending a year volunteering in Haiti. Also, New York Giants Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. comes to the ER to convince his stubborn high school football coach, Pete Delaney (Emmy Award winner Beau Bridges), to have life-saving surgery, on CODE BLACK, Wednesday, Feb. 10 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Meagan Good begins her recurring role as Dr. Grace Adams. Beau Bridges’ daughter, Emily Bridges, guest stars as his character’s daughter, Mia.

Well, if it's just insecurities that allow an insight in Christa's past and character (her husband left her, maybe also for someone else?) it will be the lesser evil and maybe even interesting. Otherwise...yeah, very disappointed.

There is a list of the characters appearing, and it gives a hint about who might be injured in episode 14

Mike is still here, but Gina -who was in episode 15- isn't. And I noticed that Dr.Guthrie disappeared from the list of the regular cast since episode 14 -he was still listed on 13 even though he wasn't on.

Edit:

There are also pictures from episode 16 with the description:

And a sneak peek from episode 14 (Jesse/Leanne...fantastic):

I'm thinking that maybe him and Mario were fighting the creepy killer and accidentally killed him? Don't know what else makes much sense, but will see what twists they have in store.

Description for episode 17, Love Hurts:

“Love Hurts” – Christa must put aside her personal feelings for Grace and work with her to treat Brody, (Cameron Boyce), a patient who claims to have been abused at a camp for troubled teens. Also, Grace is surprised when Campbell asks her out, on CODE BLACK, Wednesday, Feb. 17 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

We might hope for minimum drama.

Today Michael Seitzman, creator and executive producer of "Code Black" was answering questions on Facebook (Group Code Black Fans). One of the question was about renewing for next season. And yes, he is very confident that will be renewed :)

These reviews I've seen earlier. Author, Joy D'Angelo did / will do fanstastic job writing reviews. You just have to read them. By the way she is a fan of Christeal :).

Yes, I really like her reviews. They are in depth, and she has interestings POVs even when I see things otherwise. Plus, her enthusiasm for the show in general and Neal/Christa in particular always make for a good read :)

Yeah, in last review when she wrote "Dude, why do you think she woke you up?" or "Food is not Christa’s mind!" I was laughing fit to burst

I'm liking the new surgeon (more eye candy!) but I don't like how it seems to be only for the Heather/Mario drama.

The promos are very often misleading, so maybe it's only a detail. IIRC, the casting announcement said he was supposed to compete with Neal as a surgeon; if so, there's more to him.

Hope it's okay to post this. I think it is from the CBS Facebook page, didn't know if others here had seen it. It's an immersive 360 experience and is really pretty cool because you can truly see everything going on. I am guessing it's maybe from the next episode? Either way, I know they are working on a patient but I like that there doesn't appear to be any major tension occurring between Neal, Christa, and his ex., at least not in this scene.

My theory, since they are down one trauma surgeon (since Cole left) they will some how make him a trauma surgeon, it will free up an attending job in the ER for season 2.

Thanks, I'd never thought about different colored scrubs meaning a different position.

The sitcom "Scrubs" had different colors for different positions, but most medical shows I have watched did not have this correlation, and I have not noticed it in real hospitals.

Link to comment

It depends. Surgical scrubs tend to be green, and the ER docs usually wear blue. Other specialists usually wore green (like residents since we would take them from the surgical ward). Since Neal changed his colors, he probably will become a surgical attending (which makes more sense). But he would probably have to do a fellowship in trauma which will be hand waved like almost everything else medical in this show.

In my country is this same. "Green" for surgeon, "Blue" or "Navy Blue" for ER and "White" for anaesthesiologist (my brother-in-law wears in hospital). "Pink or white"  on maternity unit.

Yeah, I think also too that he will become surgical attending after #16 episode. Only 2 episodes will left to the end of 1 season

Extended description of  #16 episode

Odell Beckham comes to the ER to convince his high school football coach (Beau Bridges)  to have surgery to remove his large intestine. Meanwhile, Leanne struggles to fit into her new role as ER Director.  On Valentine’s day, Christa is shocked to learn that Neal’s ex Grace is back in town and is staying with him. Christa worries that there’s something left between them, even as she advocates for Grace’s Haitian patient to get the surgery she needs. Mario learns that Heather works for a cryogenics firm in her spare time, while  Angus struggles with his guilt over letting Gordon bleed out.

Seriously? Now the ex is staying with him? No wonder Christa develops insecurities. I have to admit that would make me uneasy as well.

For me it sounds like the ex-Grace comes into town with the patient and Neal is being nice and just putting her up for the time and probably will operate her patient. I think in the end "Christeal" will have their Valentince's Day as we know Dr Campbell will ask Grace out in #17 ep. But we will see..

I'm glad they say Christa advocates for the ex's patient, because the one thing I don't want is for the writing to make her sound petty in order to prop the new character.

Same, if there is any residual feelings with the ex, Neal would look stupid if he let her stay at his place.

I hope so, after last week's misunderstanding, I need a win on the shipper's front.

Oh, I agree, I too think Neal is innocently looking at the situation as a favor to a friend and doesn't think anything more of it. However when you are in a relationship with another person you need to take their feelings into consideration as well. He may feel nothing but friendship towards Grace now, but how is Christa suppose to know that? He should have at the very least given her a heads up, but being that the description says she is "shocked" to find out I am thinking it will be revealed at the worst possible moment. Now, if the writers are using this to show that Neal is 100% committed in his relationship with Christa, than bring it on. But if they are using it for drama then I am really disappointed.

Me too! No matter what happens it would be out of character, imo, for Christa to be petty at work. If Neal has residual feelings than he is asking for problems and in that situation, honestly, I would want to see Christa be strong and not put up with it. Neal is either in the relationship or he isn't, if they show him waffling I will be really upset.

I agree, I think we greatly need a win, at least one scene where it shows they are both happy and okay with everything.
