Small Talk: Out of Genoa

Recommended Posts

I know this already since I work in the canine industry and own a dog.

However, kennel cough isn't the same thing as canine influenza. And though there are vaccines for both and most places require it. Both are still caught by vaccinated dogs because there are different strains. (Just akin to a flu shot in humans doesnt prevent ever catching the flu; its not fool proof). Like every single dog I have groomed the past ten days has been vaccinated and still got ill and was while I did them.

Just a heads up because I know many of y'all have pooches. Hopefully this'll pass fast.

Thx re kennel cough.  It is so contagious, my pup had it when I first got her.

I have a tip on how to save money for those who may not know.  If your pet is on meds you can get those filled at your own pharmacy, not covered by a plan of course but it is so much cheaper.  Vet writes the script and fill it wherever you get the best deal on dispensing fees.  I live in Canada fyi.

Happy Easter, Passover or Just Long Weekend to all. :D

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts! I am thrilled to let you know that my mother has taken a positive turn and seems to be on the mend for the most part. She is one strong-willed stubborn soul. The doctor is a bit flabbergasted as he doubted she would live out the week. I feel so relieved! Thanks again!

Forghorn Leghorn, I also live in Canada. I got my cat's asthma inhalers at Shoppers Drug Mart. The pharmacist looked at me like I was crazy.

Good news, P&E!

How about this - a few months ago, I was at Shoppers Drug waiting for a prescription, and a lady came to the pharmacy counter to ask advice about her son's IGUANA with a skin condition! :D

Ugh! Mice are so gross but common.

Also I agree about vet prices. I don't see a huge difference (she herself told me going to the pharmi would save me a few bucks) so the convenience and my vet chop the pills for my lil Yorkie makes my life easier. Now I don't have pet insurance and I think depending on the plan that may affect med prices.

I have a very large indoor herd but have been lucky with vet bills. My vet clinic is AMAZING, offering many free services to long time clients. My mastiff is a blood donor and his care is free. Believe me, feeding this guy is expensive enough. I had no idea that pet meds could be dispensed by regular pharmacists. Sounds odd but meds are meds.

Ugh to mice in the house. Where there's one......

Stewed, check out generic formulas for Benadryl. Our border collie/ lab has rotten environmental allergies and takes the WalMart brand. It's so much cheaper and is the same ingredient.

I had a great day yesterday.

Hubby and I took the grands down to the harbour and walked around looking at the boats then walked down to the crab dock.

Lucy (a harbour seal) was there and people were taking pics of her and also feeding her.  Much to my surprise, there was also a sea lion there too.  I had never seen him before and he was quite large.  He even took the food lucy was given right out of her mouth.  Hubby took some video but it didn't turn out very well...

Valley, you live on Vancouver Island, correct? Anywhere near the southern resident orca population? I saw that there is a fourth newborn calf! That is such good news. I hope they all survive.

Oh Stewed, I feel your pain.  We get mice every once in a while too.  Fortunately we have two cats.  Of course only one of them hunts, the other one is an idiot.  I'll never forget the sight of my husband and the little female racing around the living room trying to catch a mouse.  It ran behind some furniture and when hubby grabbed a flashlight to look for it, the male thought we were playing "red dot" and tried the chase the light from the flashlight. Lulz.  We call him Derp.

I have an Internet friend in Oregon who adopted a hound-type mutt a year or so ago, and she thought about calling him Derpy because he had that kind of look on his face :-D (She eventually settled on Henry, which suits him well!)

I didn't really know where this should go, so I figured here would be a good place. I was surfing the web for some Halloween yard haunt inspiration and one of the pages had Halloween Costumes....I couldn't copy the picture so I've posted the link. Is this Abby??

I'm not sure, but I think maybe it is.  If not, she's a dead ringer. (Probably shouldn't use the word, dead) lol

^^^Haha! Perhaps not.

Yes that is MO. I would love to have such long legs!

Me, too -  by the way, how is your Mother?

Well movinon, she is somewhat better but still very short of breath. I would say the crisis part is over thank God. A private worker comes in a couple of times a day too which has helped alot. It's a relief to have her there. Thanks for asking!

I'm so glad to hear your mom is on the mend and that you're getting some help.  My husband is going through a tough time with his parents (although I can' t say they are beloved, sadly). First about a month ago his mother fell and broke her pelvis and then two weeks ago his father fell and broke his hip.  They are in their nineties and refuse to have anyone in the house except doctors (house calls, who knew?) and family.  Consequently hubby and his sister are it.  Oh well, he's a good man, hubby is.  I hope my son never has to go through this with us, we have no problem living in assisted living if that's what it takes to avoid this.

I have no qualms about it either peaches. I don't want any of my children to go through what I have been through. My mother willingly went into assissted living but not so willingly gave up her car. Her dementia has been her biggest issue and ours.

Maybe these falls will force your inlaws into assissted living?

I understand so much about the car - I think my mother collided with every neighbor we had before she gave up her car.  It's a good thing everyone loved her, because it was a real problem.  My will states that I will go into assisted living whenever my children decide that I need to, but my biggest fear is that when the time comes, I might be uncooperative - I can be a bit of a bitch, and you never know.  My mother was an angel, but she refused to go, and someone had to live with her constantly until she died at home.

We were afraid that was how our mother was going to be as she had been very strict and stubborn all her life. She was a TOUGH mother in every sense of the word. However, her dementia has been a strange blessing of sorts. Often times, it accentuates the person's personality but in her case, it totally changed her. She is co-operative and pleasant, very willing to laugh, exactly like our father was. Very weird but welcomed.

peaches, I wish you the best of luck with this situation. One parent is hard enough but two must be a nightmare. (((HUGS)))

movinon, I would love to think I will be a lovely little old lady but I swear like a drunken sailor on shore leave and fear what will come out of my mouth. Don't know whether to laugh or cry over that.

I know exactly what you mean - The older I get, the bigger bitch I become.  I am more like an aunt I remember than my sweet Mother.  Let's hope we have some time before we get there.  I am even more fearful, because I am the same age as EB and we can all see how sweet he is.

I wish you luck to, peaches - this must be horrible - My parents were loved, but my Dad's stroke turned him from a wonderful man into someone we barely knew.  No one came to see him because he swore at them.  Been there - you have my sympathies.

Because I promised myself to speak no crap today, I am coming to this thread to say that the weather is fantastic in Texas and the pools are full of people.  I am also keeping my beautiful great grand-baby today, and she has smiled all morning.  Hope your Mom is still doing well, Patsy.  I will not be speaking about the show.  That is all.

Glad you're having a great day movinon!   Here in Seattle we have clear blue skies and temps in the sixties.  I've got four lilacs in bloom, as well as peonies, tulips and calla lilies.  Oh, and rhododendrons, lily of the valley and iris.  It's been a glorious spring!

Canadian, where has your son been flying lately? I have an air traffic control app on my iPad, and I often listen to Toronto arrival ATC while I'm doing other things around the house. Whenever I see a "heavy" over my house, that's coming from Europe or Japan or wherever, I wonder if it's your boy! :D

Sorry Capricasix, just seeing this now..Toronto is his home base and he is flying in and out of there to and from his various destinations, so no doubt some of those "heavy's" you see is him..:0)

Yes, hope everyone had a great mothers day, I sure did.

I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my daughter and grand daughter that live in Maryland and then teri, my other daughter took me and dawnica (her daughter) out to lunch at the calico cat tea house.  she even arranged for the tea leaf reader to come to out table.  it was very interesting what she had to say.  hopefully, it all comes true. LOL  then I went to the casino.

Sounds like a perfect day valley!

We all had dinner last weekend as my daughter is finally off on her honeymoon. They wanted to wait until she was finished at university. I spent the afternoon with my mother and oldest sister. Mom is doing very well all things considering. That is one tough generation!

That's awesome! That your daughter is so ambitious and intelligent and that she's so loving and connected to you and friends. Sounds like a great day.

Margamo leave some carrots or romaine out for the bunnies! I looooooove rabbits.

I'm incredibly lucky, where she's concerned--she's turned out to be a remarkable person--who, despite all this stuff, doesn't have all that much confidence in herself.

I like rabbits [and most mammals too]; I just draw the line at raccoons...

Pearlite - you and John Tory both on the raccoon front! :D

So, what else do you folks like to watch on TV or movies? I'm a big fan of the Marvel cinematic universe, and I just finished binge-watching Daredevil on Netflix. It was AWESOME.

I'm addicted to Bates Motel and American Horror Story, but they had their finales so now I'm really into The Artful Detective (Murdoch Mysteries to all you Canadian Preverts).

OMG I'm just so thankful today (TGIF in US and I work weekends but whatever) for all you amazing posters AND mods for making me laugh. I had a tough day and you all and your jokes as SO appreciated. I get down sometimes by assholes and everyone here does the complete opposite of that for me.

Oh and since what others are watching now was mentioned. I'm in the mood for Scrubs. And I watch OTH and The OC even though I've seen all their episodes and I think those are what Pratts going for but damn I think their writing and character consistency was better than his. If they could get any of the writers of those 3 shows to do a stint on Y&R they'd kick his ass.
