Anyone else been struggling this year? I've been down a lot, and getting anxiety attacks and feeling overwhelmed. Work has been stressful, my favorite co-worker was fired last month. My manager quit with one day's notice and dumped all her workload on me. And the cute security guard I enjoyed looking at on a daily basis quit. And today, after killing myself the past couple of weeks, I learn the new hire who has been here exactly 3 weeks is apparently the new manager but no one bothered to tell me or my other colleagues. And he still can't even bill people properly. I kind of lost my shit with him and was like 'but if you're the manager, then why am I going through the bills and writing evaluations for interns? This should be your job.' Not my finest moment but like, fuck this shit. Tomorrow I'm going to show him how to send the employee hours, give him the huge list of account receivables and all the bills that are outstanding (of which there is a ton) and let him deal with it. Have fun.

@jewel21I think a lot of folks are struggling the past year. I suspect it's because we're coming out of the unusual experience of lock down, and people are trying to act like things are back to normal but in reality Covid is still here, as you, Pasty and I well know. On top of that there is, IMO, a lot of anxiety over people who are still trying to engage in safe practices like giving people distance when you're in lines, etc., masking indoors, etc. And workplaces may be acting like it's business as usual when it's not. We will never go back to what life before Covid, IMO. We can't because too many people didn't do what was asked if them and the result is a virus that has muted beyond control (I say this as a public health specialist). So I think that causes a lot more stress, anxiety and a sort of social mourning fit life before Covid, if that makes sense..

It's not just you. xo

Thanks for asking gingerella!

The mister and the SIL feel much better. I am extremely fatigued today. I have fibromyalgia but this tiredness is even worse. I’m just glad that the grand that has it has nothing more than a runny nose.
Loving the snark on this forums. Show is soooo bad that the jokes write themselves

I found that for about 4-5 weeks after I tested negative and was officially out of quarantine, I was very fatigued and mentally spacey. Those are common after effects and I found it took about 2 weeks to clear my brain fog, and another 2-3 weeks to get back up to my normal walking/daily about town speed again. Just take it very easy and allow yourself to rest as needed. I was told to not push it because it could prolong recovery.

Can you even imagine how you'd feel if you hadn't gotten vaxxed?!

Thanks for the advice ginger. It makes perfect sense that pushing it can actually make it worse. Same with fibro, don’t push it when you are having a good because you will ruin the next several days.
I have thought about how cruddy this would have been without vaccines and masks. Jeebus, I don’t know why anyone would forgo them.

Don't think my questions belong on the show thread, so I am posing them here to you posters who are way more show savvy then me. First, the show seemed to start eliminating sets, stylists, good costuming, and writers. Now, younger trending characters like Ally, Faith, Noah, Moses, & Amira have gone missing. My question is could the cumulative salaries/benefits to "old guard" characters like Victor, Nikki, Jack, Sharon, Ashley, Nick, Phyllis, Victoria, Billy and the remaining "writer" JG be dragging this show down financially? Because IMO, these characters have all passed their expiration dates of being young (or for the most part restless) and the writing is dull as dust. IMO, somebody needs to hit the "refresh" button on the show and scripts. Hugs to all the posters here that are having health challenges, wishing speedy recoveries to you all, and the show too!

I don't really follow the behind-the-scenes stuff very closely.  I only know what other posters have mentioned here, so my answer might not mean much.  Someone has said recently that the CBS studios are being renovated, so that (along with budget cuts) might account for the limited sets.  And apparently younger people generally aren't that into soaps anymore, considering all of the other options they have for distractions.  If they aren't attracting many new younger viewers, that may explain the emphasis on the "old guard" characters.  I agree with you about this writer.  He really has no idea how to tell a story.  I've been watching so long, the show is more of a habit that I should probably try to kick!

Others probably have better answers to your questions.

I'm also sending my best wishes to everyone dealing with health issues, annoying colleagues, and/or other nuisances!

If you post the above in the "Reel to Real" thread you might get more traction there!

@PatsyandEddie, How're you doing?!?

Getting there gingerella! Thanks for asking.  Still weary but the nasal symptoms are gone and the cough is decreasing. Mr Pats feels even better but then he’s younger than I am.
Would be nice if Show was getting better at the same speed snerk

I'm not sure if this got much press, but the CDC has approved and recommends an additional Covid booster for people over 65 years old and for those with compromised immune systems.  I took my parents to get theirs yesterday.  I want one, too!  But I'm not eligible.  I feel stupid for being annoyed that I'm under 65 and that my immune system is ok.  😕

Nah, I get it. I remember asking my doctor years ago (at least 10 or so) whether I needed any vaccines. She was like what do you mean? I told her as a kid we got a ton of vaccines but as adults I hadn't gotten one since I turned 18 and had stopped seeing my pediatrician. I remember asking her about the shingles vaccine and she looked at me like I was nuts and told me that was only for people 50 or older. I'm still disappointed I can't get it yet, heh. I did however finally get the HPV vaccine last week after wanting it for years. I have to get a second dose in 6 months but I'm so happy to have finally bit the bullet and asked for it. And with my insurance instead of costing me $249 I only had to pay around $65 so double win.

I've never understood why when the shingles vaccine is mentioned it's usually only mentioned for people 50 and older. I mean anyone can get shingles and the severity isn't just saved for those above 50.

To add on to what Gingerella said, I have never seen this country as politically decisive as it is now. I am not making this into a political post, just commenting that things seemed to be going along well for quite a few hears and then things got nasty. I also think the internet has brought about incivility.  Its a different world and imo not getting better.

No, the internet just made it easier for incivility to happen on a larger scale behind varying degrees of anonymity.

Up until internet/world wide web/browsers/social media became available to the general public, incivility mostly happened on a local, interpersonal level. In certain parts of the country the local concurrences were pretty dire.

I thinknthe internet and thr anonymity it provides has given hateful people a huge global platform to spew their hate and never have to suffer the consequences since they are hiding behind screen names, etc.

Thank you so much for remembering, Snap!

I hope all my preverts are well. I don't remember which one of you told me to watch Derry Girls but I am loving it. I just finished the second season. And I'm proud to say I don't really need the subtitles to understand but sometimes I admit, I need to go back, lol.

The nun is probably my favorite character, but I love them all. Claire is probably one of my favorite girls. I also have a soft spot for James.

A friend recommended this to me as well and I tried the first few epis but couldn't get into it. Should I try again? I liked the nun and James, but the main girls were just too ridiculous.

I liked how over the top the girls were and the ridiculous situations they found themselves in. I think it also helped that it's set in the 90s and I was about their age. There's a certain nostalgia factor with the music and stuff.

The episodes are pretty short (around 20 minutes each) and the first season is only 6 episodes. I say try and watch the first season and if the characters still haven't grabbed you, then I guess it's just not for you.

I have one episode left and I'm holding off on it. I'm not ready to say bye to these characters just yet.

I read an article last night about LGBT firsts regarding characters on TV shows. This paragraph mentioned Veronica Redd and the character she played on "The Jeffersons".

@MsMalin I was going to dm but it seems that is a glitch of the update and isn’t working. I hope you are able to work out your issues on the Kindle Fire

Another issue seems to be not being able to insert stuff into a post. I guess I am bugs thread bound

Anyone else have this annoying thing - when I go to the next page more than half the time it goes to the bottom of the page and I have to manually scroll up to the top. But it is inconcistant. sometimes it does go to the top of the next page, as it should. I haven't been able to crack the code of why it is occasionally correct and most of the time wrong.

Anyone else having a crap time of it the past oh, let's say two years?

And Ash Wednesday, though "happy" probably isn't the right term to attach to it.

In any case, have some sort of special treat to celebrate!

Quoting myself from the YR chat thread

Anyone going anywhere?

Also, in a blast from past, damn I can’t remember the actor’s character name, but…

…I offer their trademark heartfelt shoulder pats to you mods for the chaos that has happened🫣

Thanks. The whole situation came as a shock to me and has been handled poorly, in my opinion.

I lurked on Reddit a bit and there is a mafia playing site I visited while this site was down.

Has anyone else been under the weather? For the past two weeks I have had gastro symptoms on and off along with itching the entire time. Last Friday I noticed my legs were covered in bruises. I finally managed to have my GP fit me in and she was baffled. She sent me straight to the emergency room for blood tests. I were there from 12 PM until around 9:15 PM. I got home at 10 PM. Blood panels were normal except for my white blood cells being elevated and my potassium was low. They gave me potassium pills to take for three days and allergy pills to take for five days. They figure I must have caught a bug and for some reason it's also making me itch. Yesterday I think I overate because my stomach got upset again which was super upsetting because I had finally managed to keep food down for three days straight. Anyone else experiencing anything similar?  I miss eating real food and not just oatmeal and apple sauce and rice.

My sister has been sick for about a week, similar symptoms as yours except for the bruising.  Has the weather been all whack in Montreal?  We had a crazy warm February here in Pennsylvania, daffodils in bloom already and trees blossoming early.  Then last week, nighttime temps dropped way below freezing.  My poor magnolia tree that was just starting to bloom looks like someone set fire to it.   I think the constant wild temperature swings are making a lot of people feel under the weather.

Condolences to your Magnolia [ and @jewel21 & @Snaporaz also]. My Pittsburgh Magnolia usually keeps blooms for several weeks each Spring, but this year she gave up early due to several snow storms as she valiantly tried to blossom in ice.

Wishing y'all and yours a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry to hear about your tree. The weather here has been a bit all over the place. Mild, cold, snowing, raining, etc.

And while I'm sorry to hear your sister is sick, I feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one experiencing this weird virus. She is also experiencing itching? I was itchy all over and it seemed to worsen when I would vomit.

jewel21, I'm so sorry you've been feeling so poorly.  Like @Snaporaz, I know people who've been ill with a gastric virus and I had something similar a month or so back.  That bland diet is boring, for sure, but it does help, I think.  The bruising sounds concerning and it's good that you went to the doctor.  Do you usually bruise easily?  In any case, I hope you're on the mend soon.

@Peppermint and @Snaporaz, My condolences on your magnolias.  They're such magnificent trees.  The weather has been wild again this year.  Where I'm at in California, we've had lots of rain and variable temps but nothing that's been as damaging as what you've had.

While they aren't as impressive as magnolias, this weather is likely ruining the lilacs AGAIN. The last few years we get a few weeks of early warm weather and then back to nighttime freezing temps and the occasional hard freeze. The recent snowstorm was just the final indignity.

This itching after you're sick could be a histamine response? I'm not a doctor but I think that can happen after a bout of hard coughing too, so perhaps this is what it is? I'd get a second opinion OR push your GP for more tests. We have to be our own best advocates when it comes to our healthcare. Doctors are overworked and over stressed, and just because they say 'it's nothing' doesn't mean it's nothing. Go back to your doc or get a second opinion, please!

I love lilacs.  While we have plants that resemble them in California, none of the ones I'm familiar with come even close to the fragance and beauty of the ones in the midwest where I grew up.  The whole side of our yard was nothing but lilacs, they were abundant in the neighborhood and that smell was glorious.  All we catholic kids had altars to Mary in May and they all overflowed with handpicked lilacs.

I hope yours somehow escape the freeze and the snow!

Now that you mention it, she was complaining about some itching recently, but she thought it was because she had changed laundry detergents. ?? She's suffered from migraines since she was very young, so it's hard to know when she's not well if it's related to that or if it's something else.

I have a lilac outside my bedroom, but it hasn't bloomed in a couple years. 😕

The most magnificent magnolia tree I had ever seen was in the yard across the street from me. When someone new moved in she had it cut down because she didn't want to have to rake leaves. I'm still sad about it and I will never forgive her. Two doors down from me the other direction there used to be a wonderful lilac tree in the backyard. The smell was incredible. It made doing the dishes a joy every spring. I enjoyed it for years until new people moved in a cut it down before it ever had a chance to bloom for them. Across from the train station elevated platform there was a house that had four small trees/shrubs. One of them was always either blooming or its leaves were a color. They took turns. So theree was always a point of interest in that yard. And it put on a show for everyone on the platform. I remember one had those bittersweet berries when it was its turn to be in the spotlight. Then new people moved in, cut them all down, and then had the unmitigated gall to plant some nothing shrubs of no visual interest. I hate those people and I will never forgive any of them.

My hyacinths are more measly than ever. A few of my little red tulips bloomed too early and for too short of a time and the rest of them along with the regular tulips are just leaves that came up too soon and are dying. But my Lenten Rose is just as beautiful as ever. I didn't know what they were when I bought it, but there were some really cheap one year when I went to Lowes for flowers one spring, and what a great surprise it turned out to be. The first to bloom every spring. Blooms last a long time. Even as they fade they are still of interest, and the plant looks good all year long. I highly recommend this hardy perennial.

@SweePea59...my current home was built on the "1946 after WW 11 model of beauty and sustainability" . We are exactly the same age. I value the pear/black walnut/3 kinds of apple trees/mulberries....The magnolia/ lilies of the valley/ hyacinths and other blooms that sometimes pop up out of nowhere are amazing. The pig pen [thankfully] is no more & the chicken house is now a tool shed. The kitchen garden I tried to keep up, but I lost my ongoing battle with the groundhogs and deer. Back in the day, I'm sure a well aimed shotgun blast took care of any whistlepigs, but current City regs frown on such measures. Venison is tasty, but I'd rather watch my resident deer eat my apples than harvest the deer.

When I lived in Hialeah, there were mango & avocado trees in my back yard. My youngest daughter's first real food was avocado. Elderly next door neighbor had grapefruit the size of basketballs, lemons the size of grapefruit, trees full of little red bananas. After he passed, the first thing the new owners did was chop down ALL the trees.       WTF ??

You are making me investigate whether lilacs are viable in Da'Burgh...I remember their sweet smell as I was growing up.
