This guy.  Matthew Goode

If I remember correctly, he was in both the Imitation Game and played Mary's fiancee in Downton abbey.

Yeah, that’s him - he was also in The Crown, playing Princess Margaret’s husband Tony Armstrong-Jones.

Excellent!

I'll find a stale birthday cake and we'll crash the very reasonable We Love Sharon cocktail party at Getting to Genoa You! Nothing I like better than a good earrings throwdown to make a belated birthday memorable.

@Cupid Stunt it doesn’t seem real Tom Petty is gone. That hit me hard since I didn’t expect it. Into the Great Wide Open is easily one of my favorite songs and he has such an earnestness, maybe that’s naive or corny to say.

There's nothing corny about your assessment. It's true. It's what I love about his music. Tom Petty and Heartbreakers were this raw band from a rough town in Florida. With crunchy heartland rock guitars, biting lyrics, unique cord progressions and driving beat, they became one of the best selling music acts of all time (per Billboard).

His death by accidental overdose was a reminder of how he never was done with his addiction to opiates  a companion through out his adult life.

The Rolling Stone article glosses over and reshuffles (as the Petty family went to great lengths to dismiss) most of Petty's addiction history; he was a longtime drug user until the end. What is unconscionable was his being prescribed narcotics for a hip fracture as an active drug addict, all to fulfill a contractual obligation with the 40th Anniversary Tour of The Heartbreakers.

Petty was found to have died from mixed drug toxicity, a combination of fentanyl, oxycodone, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl (all opioids); temazepam and alprazolam (both sedatives); and citalopram (an antidepressant) in his system at the time of his death. No criminal charges were ever made against the prescribing physicians.

  • 10 years. 180 school shootings. 356 victims. -- Since 2009, at least 177 of America’s schools experienced a shooting. These tragedies are as diverse as our nation, but the depth of trauma is hard to convey. There is no standard definition for what qualifies as a school shooting in the US. Nor is there a universally accepted database. So CNN built our own. We examined 10 years of shootings on K-12 campuses and found two sobering truths: School shootings are increasing, and no type of community is spared.

Yay! Congrats @Petunia13 I keep thinking about getting a supplementary serving job. I used to love the camaraderie and always having some cash in my pocket.

I got this recipe from the NY Times and it was really easy and delicious so I thought I'd share. Site wouldn't let me post as a pdf so I had to screen shoot it. I don't have a lot of confidence cooking meat unless it braised or slow cooked. I haven't eaten it in 30 years and I believe you should always taste your food while cooking. This sounded great and the chances of giving hubs salmonella seemed slim to none (I haven't poisoned him yet).1311411220_ScreenShot2019-07-27at10_44_55AM.thumb.png.a39854a2bc6b1b28a432cc6a26bacf8f.png988265706_ScreenShot2019-07-27at10_45_11AM.thumb.png.ceeb0603eb0e5c5352d7725b9f98676f.png

Bear with me, I used mango instead of peaches because our tree is going off. I doubled the basil, garlic and ginger; added a shallot; used port cos that's what I had and let the chicken marinate in the fridge for a few hours. After roasting, I poured the sauce and fond in a small pot, added a little stock and a pat of butter and reduced it. It smelled fantastic. Hubs had it over jasmine rice.

Damn...that sounds good!  You two are our opposites.  Hubby went off meat 6-7 yrs ago but they will have to pry my steak knife from my cold dead fingers.  I cook about 75% vegetarian but have my meat during the week on the side.  When boychild comes down all bets are off, it's meat central...with plenty of sides of course for hubby.

Been craving a chicken and going to give that a try.

This kind of stuff gets me excited and jealous. We get some fun and weird things at the consignment store where I work but I haven't found my retirement piece yet.

I bought this for myself for my birthday mainly because I love green, I got married at the Flamingo, it was original and it was about $42 with my discount. With a little light googling I found out the artist was Haitian and died in the 80s. I think it's worth about $1500. I wish I could find out more about the artist.

Yay, another green lover.  Sadly, being blond, I can't wear it or everything I own would be green.

I'm surprised as greens and blues are perfect for blondes.  Kelly green is wonderful.  Stay with the cool shades.  I've dressed a few 1000 women over the years.  I wish I lived close...we'd go shopping!

eta:  Yes he does.  Loves salmon, shrimp, catfish, walleye etc.  He does have one occasional meat indulgence.  A small local grocery makes the best fried/broasted chicken.  About once a month we will get that.

I have the ginge gene (dad is red head; mine is reddish brown going grey) so I do own a lot of green. You probably look fab in red, which is tough for me.

I used to wear a lot of red (with red lipstick, natch) now I find I look best in chocolate brown, silvery plum and the  expected blue. During the nineties I went full Julia Roberts with a long auburn spiral perm and then I wore a lot of green. I loved it. Wow, I would love to go shopping with you!

I used to do the same! I loved being auburn and I still love lipstick. I just bought a cheap 90s mat brown that I'm loving.

I am trying so hard to embrace my natural color and be graceful about aging. I've lost a lot of my hair in my current perimenopause  so I can't wear it long anymore. It's very depressing but I have a great hairdresser who knows me and always gives me a fun haircut that suits my personality.

Let's grab @OhioSongbird and go shopping!!

Yeah, I had to give up the auburn when my hair started going white. I wish I had the guts to leave it natural but there's still enough auburn with the white that it would look silly. So I went Champagne blond so I wouldn't have to color it so often.

Rum, no brandy, so maybe sangria instead? I like the idea of white and auburn. Sounds really funky. I try to set myself apart with my hair. It's hard to not look basic when you get older. I'm lucky that my work gets fun clothes that are affordable.

Lunch is on me.  jpagan05 and I may be looking for the same stuff as I am a auburn ginger going grey, too.  😉  Hey, happens to the best of us.

And I need a haircut.  My hair is almost to my waist again....it grows fast so I'm ready for Locks of Love.  Be my 4th time.

The thrift store in my town once got an old book that turned out to be the minutes for a French town dating back to the 1700s.  They contacted the town and returned it.  A lucky friend of mine bought a $5 bracelet for his wife that turned out to be a diamond tennis bracelet.

Cool! Especially that they returned it. It's getting harder to find hidden treasures now that we have the interwebs. We try to do our due diligence where I work but it's time-consuming. It also depends on where you're shopping. Honestly I have little patience when someone whips a loop out of their pocket and wants to see one hundred pieces of jewelry while haggling and asking for our wifi password. I find it garish and discourteous. It's a consignment store, not a rummage sale and the consignor only gets 40% of the sale.

Yes, of course! The more the merrier.

That's good because I want to come too. I think I'm going to need a wedding dress because I finally decided Mr. AngelKitty should get married. We've been together for over 20 years but I never wanted to marry since I had been married before and still pretty much lost everything so when Mr. A and I moved in together I had everything in my name, the house, and cars because I was not going to walk away with nothing ever again. But now I think my cancer might be back and I'm thinking if anything happens to me, he'll be better off financially if we get married even though he's in my will.

Congratulations on your wedding, but most of all, congratulations on you and Mr. AngelKitty finding each other and making it work.

I'm so sorry to hear that your cancer might be back, so very very sorry.  I wish there was something appropriate to say......  If you want to, use this place to vent, laugh, anything and I know we'll be here for you in whatever small way we can.

Thanks, everyone for the well wishes. I probably shouldn't have said anything until I know, but it's been on my mind for a while and I just told Mr. A on Tuesday so he told me to "call the doctor right now." And I did. Saw her on Thursday and told her my suspected symptoms and she set up an "ASAP" PET scan which is scheduled for Tuesday. Then I go on Wednesday for the results.

The truth is I don't want to tell my other family members until I know the results. I don't want to cause worry until necessary. But I'm starting to obsess by looking up survival statistics and possible future treatments since I've already had chemo twice so I feel I need someplace to vent and I knew I could count on you preverts. 😁
