American Scandal With Barbara Walters - General Discussion

Mary Kay works at a law firm, as some type of assistant. I'm not sure if it was mentioned what Villi does, but he's got a very noticeable scar on his face.

I believe the show said that Villi worked as a DJ. I don't know how much money that would bring in, but I do know from personal experience that her job as a legal assistant wouldn't support a family of four. I wonder if they invested the $750,000 they received from the filming of their wedding and are drawing interest or dividends from that to supplement their incomes?

Villi seems unhappy to me.

YES. Dead eyes, monotone responses. Sure, he's an adult who could (in theory) choose to leave the situation, but let's be honest -- his molester is never, ever going to let him go. He's been groomed for this. And it's unfortunate that his family didn't have the means to take the opportunity to MOVE THE HELL AWAY AND BREAK ALL TIES with MK when she was stuck in prison. I think it's the only way he could have had any chance of a normal life.

Ugh, the fact that a grown ass woman was trying to say a 12-year-old boy was the aggressor and was pursuing her....just EW. He was a child. She had no business sleeping with a child. This woman disgusts me. And the interview was so weird. She seems off. I found her extremely unsettling.

In the old interview with Robert Blake (still in his prison orange), it was like he was doing a screen test for a part.  The tears, the anguish over baby Rosie, was so pitifully fake I found it difficult to watch (and laughable).  I bounced back and forth between feeling sympathy for him because of his absolutely terrible childhood, and thinking that he was just a loony tunes, stubborn, hot head.  His backstory was fascinating; I hadn't known about him throwing away the acting opportunities that he did.

I was worried at first they were going to portray Bonnie as some kind of starlet who had just never realized her Hollywood dreams.  Glad they put it all out there with what a grade-A sleazeball and grifter she was.

Her daughter seemed strange.  At times I wondered if she was deaf?  Or just highly, highly rehearsed with her responses?  Her manner of speaking was odd.

I did not pay close attention to the Robert Blake trial so this was interesting.   Wow, terrible childhood even if half of it was accurate.  And I think that is probably the case.  Enough to 'fuck him up'  anyway.  I use the proper psychology term here,  for his mental condition.  :>)

Given Bonnie's past, there was definitely reasonable doubt so I was not surprised he was acquitted.   I suppose  someone would have shot Bonnie at some point.  Her daughter clearly believes Blake killed her, thus her gushing about what a fabulous mother she was.  I get it that she loved her and did not want to say one negative thing but surely there were.

I always assumed Blake was guilty but this episode got me thinking that maybe it's possible that one of the other men that Bonnie scammed killed her. Everyone involved in this case is so strange and shady that I really don't know what to believe.

Something about Bonnie's daughter seemed off. I find it hard to believe that Bonnie was this wonderful mother that Holly seems to remember. Bonnie didn't deserve to be murdered but she was a scam artist not some genius business woman.

Holly was acting like aspiring to marry a rich celebrity is a normal dream. Bonnie was a scum bag that purposely created a children to trap men. What kind of vile person does that?

I don't know what to make of Blake. He's definitely nuts but I don't know if he's a cold blooded killer. Then again he might be.

I sort of think Holly will follow in her mother's footsteps. She was exposed to all the nude photos, the campaigns for money, the men her mother would go off to visit and scam. If that's what you grew up with, unless you've got a strong father to teach you right from wrong.... you sometimes go wrong. Since her dad was in on it with Bonnie, I don't see good things ahead for Holly.

As for Blake, I remember him wanting full custody of his daughter. And I remember the murder, no witnesses, no weapon found. Much like the "ripped from the headlines" remake of this case on Law & Order, he may have had an accomplice to help him.

I sort of followed the story when it happened and thought Blake probably did it (especially given the story he told about how it all happened) but after watching last night I'm not so sure. If his lawyers are so sure they know who the real killer is why don't they say so - unless he's really Blake's accomplice.

I thought Bonnie's daughter was "off" too - I wonder if she's a scam artist like her mother was.

It's nice that Blake's daughter is raising Rosie - not knowing anything about her it's probably safe to say she's getting a better upbringing than if she ended up with her mother's family.

Every. Word. Of. This!!

Before watching this, I was sure Blake was guilty. I still think he is, but I'm far less positive than I was before. Bonnie was clearly involved with a lot of people who might have wanted her dead, and although I think it unlikely, it IS just possible that someone (besides Blake) chose that moment to do her in.

I also found the daughter very, very odd. She seemed to idealize her mother! Right after discussing how Bonnie would call men and beg for money for vacations and things, and sell pornography, etc., she declares that her mother was "wonderful!", and "I love her!"

My mother was (to all appearances) a good, Christian woman...a gifted cook and baker, clean, devoted to my father, thrifty, kept a neat home, lovely to look at, etc. She was also short-tempered and mean as a snake to her children. She cut me down on a regular basis, would lock us in our rooms until our father came home from work if we pissed her off (her excuse was that if she started beating us, she'd kill us, so we were better off waiting for dad), and so much more...but this is not therapy, it's a forum about a TV show. As bad as she was, the woman my dad married when she died made my mother look like Mother Theresa! Ask me my opinion on either of these women, and I'm not going to gush...no, not even for a national audience...that they were "wonderful!" I'll tell you that they were human, and flawed, and in the case of my mother at least, that I loved her dearly irregardless. That Bonnie's daughter places her lying, con artist mother on such a pedestal is disturbing.

Given the forensics (e.g., no gunpowder residue on Blake), I've always thought he hired someone to do it. From things I've read and other shows I've seen, AS actually glossed over some of Bonny's scamming -- it's surprising no one had killed her sooner.

2.) Barabra Walters seems to have some f-ed up crush on Erik who seems like nothing more than a sociopath to me.

I always felt sympathy for the Menedez brothers. There was a boatload of evidence they were sexually molested by their father from a very young age (and little of it was mentioned in this episode aside from Erik's own testimony at the first trial): a pediatrician testified he had seen evidence of molestation in the boys when they were very young, and the parents had a box full of nude polaroids they'd taken of the boys from the time they were very young into their teens. IMO if you do that to your kid and they grow up and shoot you dead, you asked for it. I think they feel compelled to say they're sorry and regret it because they're on camera and are hoping for a new trial but I wouldn't blame them if they aren't sorry in the least bit. The whole reason their first trial ended in a hung jury is because the prosecution tried to ignore all the molestation evidence and say they'd just made the whole thing up, and the jury didn't buy it. They only got a conviction in the second trial by getting the judge to disallow all the molestation evidence. It was a sham.

That said . . . anyone who'd want to marry someone sentenced to life in prison has a screw loose somewhere if you ask me.

Everything implicating Blake was left out of the story - of course.  I watched all the trial coverage at the time and I felt like he was guilty of hiring someone to do it.  Off the top of my head, he always parked in a prominent spot at this restaurant, but this one time he parked on a dark side street.  He claimed he was carrying a gun and it fell out at the restaurant, but the bus boy cleaning the table didn't find it.  And Blake was gone only a few minutes, yet she was gunned down during that time.  What are the odds that all of this came together without Blake playing a part in it.  And that doesn't even include the fact that he hated Bonnie with a passion, and was somewhat obsessed with Rosie.

I too think Robert probably hired someone to kill his wife but I'm sure there was a line!  I love him on tv and always thought he was a great actor but his acting skills in prison weren't as good.  Bonnie and her daughter were messed up.  Glad Rosie has a chance for a normal life.

Personally, I think Blake was too gaga to do in Bonnie, and I bet he thought he could pay her off and she would leave him the baby, and then disappear, I think it was just a matter of finding her price.

Bonnie's daughter's raving about her mother was just to build her case that Blake should pay her a lot to heal her "loss".

I think a lot of people could have found Bonnie, and established a routine, and their favorite restaurant with a little sleuthing.    Stars, even older ones like Blake are easy to find on websites, and since he lived there so long, I'm guessing that his address was very publicly known.

Bonnie scammed and extorted so many people that I'm sure there were tons of men, and their relatives that would have loved kill her.    I think the two stuntmen (they were stuntmen?) that testified were just looking to get out of trouble, and have their moment of fame again.         I don't think Blake was mentally capable of planning and executing a hit like that, and anyone he hired would have ratted him out later.   I bet that the killer is one of the many victims, or one of their relatives, and I'm sure that there are hundreds who are possible suspects.   From reports I read, some of her extortion victims were financially ruined by her, and she wouldn't let anyone off the hook.

A funny story, years ago a lady I knew had a friend who lived in LA, in a fancy neighborhood.     The house next door was very nice, and they constantly had a gardener working.     Cars kept driving by and taking pictures of the house, and some even asked the gardener if Robert Blake lived there, and the gardener said he had moved.     The neighbor found out later that the 'gardener' was Blake, and that between seasons of Beretta (spelling?), he liked to keep busy with gardening, and other jobs around the house.    People didn't recognize him dressed in work clothes.
