Well when people use shippers to get votes, they shouldn't be pissed when the shippers actually believe they are a thing. Look at the Meryl/Maks thing. Shippers took it personally when it was revealed that they never had anything going, but M/M certainly played them. I know I would never take someone else's romance/showmance personally, but a lot of people do. Personally I believe a lot of people probably hook up on dwts, just because of rumors I hear, but that doesn't mean they are going to be an item. You would think by now fans would know very few people end up like Robert and Kym.

Well rumor is that Artem and Nikki Bella are now dating.  I think some of it is on her reality show even though I guess they are both publicly denying being a thing, but they pretty obviously are from context clues outside of her show.  But they didn't do the whole showmance thing on the show obviously, so it's not remotely the same situation.

All you need to know is that a lot of the Renten (Alexis/Alan) shippers were also Janelskiy (Janel/Val) shippers, so you would also think they learned their lesson. That said, many former Janelskiy shippers still act like Janel/Val was a real thing before it imploded, despite the fact that Val has full out said that he was always faking it but just didn't bother to tell Janel.  Classy guy he is.

Though this shipper meltdown is boring compared to Janelskiy.  Then we got clear subtweeting between Janel and Val.  I just remember Janel posting "I know what's real now" and Val said some stuff about her.  There was lots of maturity involved.  If you're going to have a showmance, at least have it end in epic flames.

I think Val/Janel probably hooked up, but she took it more seriously than he did. She seemed pretty pissed. Most of the contestants that appear on dwts don't really seem much sharper than the shippers.

Meryl and Maks, on the other hand, seem pretty smart and probably laughed their asses off at the shippy comments. It's pretty obvious now that Maks was chasing Peta at the time, and Meryl was most probably with her boyfriend. She didn't want to admit it because his mom is her coach. They both admitted they had nothing going right after the show, but the nutty shippers wouldn't accept it.

I don't think Maks was chasing Peta until after Season 18 ended and he won his stupid $20 mirrorball, but I never believed for a second that Meryl an Fedor had broken up and always believed they were together throughout the season. He just kept a low profile so she could play the showmance game.

Oh, IMO Janel definitely fell for Val and fell hard.  She's recently married and seems happy, but prior to that she was definitely a serial dater and by that I mean, she strikes me as the type that needs to be in a relationship at all times.  Which nothing wrong with that if that is what you choose to do, but if she broke up with someone, she moved on quickly.  She also seems the type to fall hard and fast.  Yes, she for sure took part in the showmance aspect of all of it, but I think Janel genuinely got caught up in the feelings of all of it and as we've also seen with Val, when he wants to give someone attention, he will give them his full attention.  I also agree I think they hooked up to some degree, even if Val is now calling the whole thing fake.  But even now, while I do think a lot of it was fake on Val's part, I also don't know if he's just trying to rewrite history and say nothing happened on his end because he's trying to appease his fiancee's ego.  Especially since this all happened during one of their many off stages.  So keep in mind since the Valenna love story is being rewritten as true love since day one, the Janelskiy thing falls after their initial dating period, but I think before they picked up a 2nd time.

Also funny on the Val/Jenna front is Jenna recently posted a happy bday post to Maks, which no big deal in itself.  But as most things Jenna, she somehow made the post about herself and she basically thanked Maks for her relationship because she said that Maks is the one that convinced Val that she was the one and that convinced Val to give her a second chance.  Now this is all paraphrased and of course all the little kids swooned at this display of family love, but what?  Why are you admitting that your fiancee basically didn't want to be with you until his brother convinced him you were the right one?  That is not flattering to you, your fiancee or your relationship.  Kind of a weird flex.

Yeah, I agree Val seems to be rewriting history about himself and Jenna. He wrote off Janel. He also wrote off Amber Rose, whom he had a very public relationship with. I'm surprised Amber didn't call him out on his bullshit.

It makes you wonder how insecure and fake Jenna must be. I wonder how long that marriage will last.

I agree, I follow Meryl on instagram and she seems pretty devoted to Fedor. I don't see her dumping him to date someone she knew for three months, LOL! But then again, I don't think the shippers were really fans of hers. They were only fans of the showmance.

Rewriting history is a Chmerkovskiy trait unless, of course, you forget Maks dumped Peta and think they have the greatest love story ever written.

That post by Jenna was something else, wasn't it? I was embarrassed for her.

I mean, Maks went to India with his buddy Merv right after Season 18 ended and then he took a paid escort to Italy. And he was also briefly seeing some woman from that Alfalit charity he supports, making several "quiet but not so quiet" trips to Miami right up to the day he and Peta went public with being back together. Not to mention he spent most of the rest of the summer touring the U.S. with Karina. But we're supposed to believe he was pining away for Peta the whole time? LOL!

Maybe Val knew, but wasn't ready to settle down...enjoying playing the field. And if she gave him an ultimatum, I could see Maks convincing Val that she's perfect for him and not to let her get away. It happens all the time.

Something still doesn't add up.   Especially since Jenna phrased it something about giving her a second chance, which also implied that it was on Val to forgive Jenna for something or other.  She might have given him an ultimatum, but Val couldn't process said ultimatum without brother Maks to tell Val that Jenna was his it girl? If Val wasn't able to draw that conclusion on his own, I wouldn't be marrying him.  Then again, I don't have to fortunately.  Hopefully for Jenna's sake, Val will fully see this through and she won't be left heartbroken with a few kids in a couple of years time.

Ok, I'm so old, but I really don't get the "shipper" stuff. I don't Instagram, I have a Twitter account, that I read about once a year, I think I follow DWTS and maybe Tom Bergeron because when I signed up for the account, I had to "follow" someone. The most I've used it for is to read my brothers insane rants and at first would read the Fug girls on award show nights, I've even stopped doing that, I just don't care.

Are "shippers" the same tween age girls and emotionally tween age girls that adore the Bachelor/Bachelorette nonsense, read romance novels and watch Hallmark Christmas movies and Lifetime movies?

When I watch this show, I think, oh that couple looks cute, they dance nicely together, they seem to be having a good time with each other, then the show is over and I don't give a damn til the next week. I hope that real life intervenes in these people's lives soon and they have their own romances to be occupied with. As a teenager, I had crushes on many male singers, actors, I cut out their pictures form 16 and Tiger Beat, but I didn't care about who they were dating/not dating, I cared more about a boy in my school and who he was dating and if he might like me or want to date me, and those crushes changed often. Well, except I still have a crush on Phil Everly and he died several years ago.

I watch a lot of old people channels I guess, because I get a lot of the old people commercials, funeral insurance, medications for various old people ailments, medicare supplemental insurance, you know, the stuff old people are consumed with interest about. But Bill Engvall has an ad, and I don't pay much attention to what it's for. But I was thinking, I would rather see an entire season of DWTS with contestants like him and Tommy Chong and several others who seemed to be having a great time, working on improving their dancing every week, than a single week of a winner like the last one, and I'm not putting his name because I'm kind of blanking (did I mention, I'm old?) and I don't want to go back through this thread and find his name because I don't give a darn.

All shippers are not tweens. I'm amazed at how many grown women are full fledged shippers who appear to be living life vicariously through these dancers.

Val (and by association Jenna) and Sharna have by far the craziest shippers IMO. Some of the stuff I've seen from those people scares me, and they're adults!

Yeah I've unfortunately gone down the rabbit hole of shipping for many pop culture shows, famous people, etc. and the fact is a large majority of the truly crazy shit comes from fully grown adult women.

I guess some people are just so desperate for love and romance in their lives, they have to find it somewhere, but I have just tried to love myself first. I do enjoy a good romance as part of another story, in a book, in a movie, but when the book or movie is over, I just move on. I also never want to know about anyone else's sex life, they have one, great, but don't give me details, not in real life, books or movies or reality tv shows.

A good example were the Maksyl shippers.  I'd argue the majority of that fanbase were middle aged women and they were the ones that had blogs and tumblr pages devoted to all things Maksyl.

I tend to think shippers fall into two camps with DWTS.  There are actual teenagers that ship (probably up to college-ish age), but I'd argue they tend to ship the younger couples and the younger pros.  So these are the fans that are obsessed with the Alans and Jennas and Witneys and etc.  Except they don't spend as much time on the non-DWTS attached pros.  Meaning they may love Witney & Lindsay and their partnerships but aren't going to be obsessed with their non DWTS husbands  So they love shipping the Valennas and Hayley/Derek and whatever couples present themselves each season...like an Alexis/Alan or a Janelskiy.

Then there are the middle aged women, who are usually the ones obsessed with Derek or Maks/Val, maybe Mark.  And they do ship.  As said, Maksyl is the big example I can think of but they certainly will ship pros.  Valenna people I presume run on both sides since Jenna appeals to the young kids but the older fans love Val.  Val himself tends to be controversial with the younger fans for well, his mouth.

Anyway, Alexis and Milo were both on Nikki Glaser's show today and Alexis is really trying to rewrite history I guess.  Putting aside whether or not the Alan thing was fake, she's now acting like she hated the show and didn't enjoy the experience at all.  Except this is the same woman that got a 27 tatted on herself as soon as the season ended.  She also said or implied that she and Alan didn't work out because he couldn't make time for her.  The implication being that it was either her or the tour and Alan chose the tour...which duh.  It's his job.  Also sort of ick that Nikki made a comment that she thought Milo/Alexis will date sometime after he's 18.  I also find it interesting that people have no problem making comments like that but would be freaking out if we were talking about a 17 year old young woman and a slightly older male.  It's not that I have any issue with Alexis/Milo being friends but let's can it on shipping them.  Even the teenage shippers seem to know better than to ship Alexis/Milo.

Heard about this because apparently she's getting quite the dragging on social media from Alan's fans. People are none too impressed with her. The slut shaming is rampant of course but now people are calling her crazy, weirdo, etc. Yikes...

Yeah sadly that double standard has existed for a long time. Look how long it took for many to finally start considering and judging young female teachers who slept with male students in the same way they judged male teachers who slept with female students.

1 hour ago, spanana said:

That's because in the case of Milo specifically, many of his teen fans came from his Disney movie, which means many of them are shipping him and  Meg Donnelly, his co-star in that film who we'd be happy to know is only 18 herself.

I've glanced at Milo's social media a few times and I will say he seems to be that guy who has a lot of female friends. I don't know if that means he gets friend zoned a lot or girls just feel comfortable with him but yeah, his teen fans are busy shipping him with so many other people there's no time to even acknowledge Alexis.

Plus, with many of them being teenagers and slut shaming can be rampant with that set, many of them aren't too impressed with her never ending half naked pictures so I don't think they'd "approve" of her and Milo.

Those people were out of control but, to be fair, they were being egged on by Maks and Meryl. And when the season ended and the attention was drying up, they would stir it all up again. If Maks hadn't gotten desperate to have a kid and gone back and settled for Peta, I think they would still be doing it.

The first season I remember running into serious shipping was Season 10 with the dual punch of Erin/Maks and Cheryl/Ochocinco. Personally, I think both of those couples really did have flings. But there's a huge difference between a fling and everlasting love outside the bubble of DWTS. The Maksyl fans had so little grip on reality that I don't think the real world even existed for them.

Oh, I think a lot of people on dwts have flings, or so I've heard, anyway. But yeah, that's no reason to start shipping people. Most of the time, those are just flings that are over after the show.

Sometimes, though, it's so fake you wonder how stupid people can be. Like when Derek had that showmance with Maria Menounos, while her boyfriend was sitting there in the audience every week!

I'm not arguing that Maks/Meryl didn't egg fans on...but again, these are middle aged women who I'd hope would be able to see through it.  I get the teenagers falling for this crap, but it's not like it wasn't hard to see through the Maks/Meryl thing.

I'm also not for the slut shaming of Alexis.  That's not cool.  But I don't really feel sorry for her if some of the shippers are now mad at her or calling her fake or whatever.  If you are going to choose to showmance and play into all of that bs, then it's also going to be on you when the wool gets pulled from the fans eyes.  Also fans don't take well to people getting off the show and badmouthing the experience, unless it's a celeb that was obviously screwed over in some way.  It also probably doesn't help matters that she's endlessly talking about the show or posting vague messages on social media while Alan has just remained quiet and gone about his business.

It's similar to the implosion the Janelskiy fans had at both Janel and Val after Janelskiy imploded post show.  If you are going to play that publicly, then don't be mad when it blows up in your face and generally the pissed off are going to choose sides.  Most of the Maksyl fans chose Meryl and hate Maks.  Janelskiy fans went both ways.  Most of the Alexis/Alan shippers clearly chose him.

I've also noticed from Milo's social media that he does seem to have quite a lot of female friends, which is not remotely a judgment.  Just that he posts instagram stories from school a lot and he's always surrounded by friends, both male and female.  He generally seems like a social guy.

As for Alexis, I thinks she's just young and fairly immature and kind of has this fantasy instagram life right now, which is probably not a sustainable lifestyle long term.  I don't particularly think she knows what she wants, which is normal enough at her age, but I do think she wants a man that doesn't have a regular 9-5 job so that they are free to travel with her across the world on a whim.

This is very true but Maks's fan base in general was always the middle aged/older women. Back when he was at the height of his popularity and had his own devoted fan base instead of just Peta and Val's fans by association, it was mostly the older ladies who would travel around the country to see him perform (when he bothered to show up) or buy whatever oddball thing he was shilling (Dr. Tea anyone?).

And yes, most of the Maksyl shippers did choose Meryl. I think because most of them were her fans who only watched DWTS because she was on and their loyalty was to her. But it's surprised me how many of Maks's own fans got fed up with him and basically wrote him off after that.

maybe some of Alan/Alexis shippers (good grief I hate that word) might move on if there were a spring season. They would be out of the spotlight and there'd be new couples to like. (I'm not typing that word again.)

The sleazy pictures quote is making me laugh. Normally I dismiss everything that comes from Radar Online but knowing Val's history, this wouldn't surprise me in the least. And I see Jenna just had a pseudo-Bachelorette party a few days ago with the other women on the tour. Jenna needs some loved ones in her life to sit her down and say, "girl, you can do better. Love yourself".

Meanwhile, I have taken to personally boycotting American Idol because of ABC's shitty decision to not have a spring season of DWTS. I just think it's complete crap that they go blow millions on a reboot no one really asked them for and so in their desperation to make said reboot no one asked for happen, they're screwing over a long running show that before their fuckery was still getting decent ratings. So screw them.

See this was me as well but before that Val posted that odd IG story of JJ unpacking and stated how she was really really mad at him. You can tell something had really hurt her. Then that impromptu bachelorette party and later on that article. That's when people starting putting stuff together. Valenna shippers were really offended like he would never cheat on her. Yeah, sure. But then Val ranting later on that night into the next day which screamed of guilt. If it wasn't for that IG story, the article would've gone unnoticed and Radar would be considered a liar since they don't have the best reputation.

He also started going after his fans for being obsessive with him and his relationship as if he hadn't contributed to their behavior. Saying to mind their business when he brought it on himself. Blocked people when he was called out, accused a girl of catfishing when it was her actual picture, mocking fans who had their faves as their icon saying they need to reevaluate their life. I think one girl got blocked because someone said Normani would've won DWTS if she had any other partner but you. Lmao

My TW was an entertaining mess the last two days. But yeah something is really wrong with him. He's just seem so bitter and hateful these last few months. For someone that's supposed to be happily engaged, he sure is angry all the time. Jenna really don't love herself.

I didn’t “ship” them, but they were certainly a nice looking pair. I do remember seeing somewhere that she had said he wasn’t her “type” (whatever that means). Anyways, he seems to be happily married now, so all is good in the hood. I haven’t really kept up with what she’s been doing...

Mya liked thugs, black thugs at that. Yes, they had great chemistry but I knew Maya wouldnt go there, she def. has a type. I just hope as she has gotten older that thugs r not an option no matter the race.

Me too.  I'm legitimately depressed.  I keep thinking "right now we'd be gearing up for DWTS to start since Bach is ending".  I'm just upset and won't watch AI.

In other news, I went to DWTS Live for the second time in my life (first time was February 2017) a few weeks ago.  It was good, but of course they had to plug Valenna several times.  Eye roll inducing.  Grocery Joe was just as plain as co-MC.  Last time I saw them, Witney wasn't touring.  Now she is but Lindsay is out.  All in all, good show.

Where is this posted?  Right after reading this, I jumped to Jenna's Instagram page and didn't see anything.  Swung by Val's and Mak's and nada.  I need to see this shiz.

It's on her IG page, posted January 17 (Maks birthday).

Speaking of these two, the wedding seems to be fast approaching. Though they haven't been as publicity seeking as Maks and Peta were, I get the feeling this wedding will be even more of a spectacle.

Thanks!  For some reason I was thinking his birthday was in March so didn't go back that far.  Of course I could have looked that up...  Yes, second hand embarrassment.  She is so full of herself.

She's already got pics on her page that showed she did Say Yes To The Dress, and of course a pic of her on the bridal perch just showing off.  Does she ever do anything quiet and private?  Everything is a show.

And no one will care about them, just like no one cared about Maks and Peta. Did Peta's movie ever get released? Not that anyone cared about that, either.

So DWTS fandom has been a mess based on this article. Thoughts? https://radaronline.com/exclusives/2019/03/dwts-val-chmerkovskiy-dating-app-single/

His response wasn't a denial and started ranting yesterday every couple of hours since news broke.

LMAO. I haven't heard about that, but not surprised, here. How long will his marriage last? Or Maks' for that matter?

Tom Bergeron's tweet. Vague, of course.

I saw that, but it could mean so many things since there are a lot of complaints from fans. Changing the voting system to better prevent a Bobby type win, changing up the pro roster, better cast, getting back to the roots of the show, etc.

I kind of assumed to some degree he was talking about #1 as I think the biggest complaint that came out of last season was how it ended and how for arguably the first time ever, the crap dancer won as opposed to somebody who might not have been the best but had a modicum of talent.  Does that mean changing the voting system/percentages?  Introducing a judges save?

I'm curious what they come up with or if they come up with a bunch of new crap nobody asked for since they have selective hearing in terms of what fans want.

I think the main thing I want is to get rid of any dances that aren't ballroom. Looking at you contemporary.

I know people get very attached to the pros but I think the level of talent and charisma between the original pros and this current crop is night and day. I would love to see them bring back some of the old pros (Karina, Tony) while still maintaining some of the more popular pros from the current group (Sharna, Emma).

I think one of the things hurting them is that except for Val and maybe Artem, they don't have the level of male pros they used to have. They may all be good dancers but they don't have the talent or the personality of Derek, Mark, Maks, Tony or even Louis.

Oh, I don't know. I'd put Alan up there with Val and Artem.

I didn't like Alan and Alexis's fake showmance, but I liked Alan's choreo last season.

But I do think there does need to be a change in the pros. And most definitely the judges. I am hoping that Carrie Anne doesn't come back since she is on The Talk now. She is the one I most want to be gone.

It's very hard for me to warm to the pros who spent time in the troupe campaigning with Twitter fans to become pros.

I had to LOL when Alan couldn't hide his pleasure when Mark got hurt, and he had to replace him for a week. I was like, try to curb your enthusiasm, bud! Alan was so desperate to be a pro, plus he had the C Brothers as his cheerleaders.

I still think Henry was the worst out of all of them, but pretty much all the pros who came up through the troupe are guilty of it. And they didn't try to hide it, even though them being made pros would mean existing pros would be out of a job.

They all do it because I think it's part of the game now.  The early pros didn't do that because most of them didn't come onto the show that way.  There was no troupe.  Either you were hired to be a pro or not.  Now you can be hired for the troupe and stay there for seven seasons or you may eventually get promoted.  Every single troupe member is angling for that promotion with fans.  Just some of them hide it better than others and of course the ones that stay in the troupe longer get more antsy than the newbies do who are just happy to have jobs.

Personally I'd be fine with overhauling most of the male side of pros.  Val is popular, but annoys me more than any of the others.  Except for maybe Gleb.  Gleb is useless as a pro.

The female pro roster is better, though I'd like some more diversity as opposed to just hiring every dancer out of Utah.  It's not diversity to be a brunette or red head in a sea of blondes.

I think Val is as close as they have to the original pros.....probably because he was around back then. Also, unlike his brother, he seems to enjoy and appreciate being on the show so I don't think he's going anywhere.

Artem has the potential to reach that level but they've got to give him a real shot with a good partner.

The others.....well, like I said, they may be good dancers but they don't have that "it" factor that made the original pros so good. Jonathan and Alec didn't have it, which is why they didn't last very long or reach the level of popularity of the other guys. That's how I look at Keo, Alan and Sasha. Gleb just flat out annoys the crap out of me and after the failed experiment when they first brought him in to replace Maks, I don't know why they keep trotting him out there.

I am beginning to think that maybe Gleb is getting it on with one of the DWTS producers. To me, that is the only reason why they keep hiring him season after season.  I don't think that Gleb takes being a partner with a celeb seriously. He is a one trick pony...most of his choreo has got a sleaze factor to it. It is like he can do nothing else.  Saying all that, I did meet him in person in one of the early DWTS tour shows, and he could not have been nicer to me and my friend.  The sleaze was kept in check that night.  And looking past the sleaze, he is even more handsome in person. A very good looking guy.  But I have to say I have never voted for Gleb and his partners because there never has been a wow factor in his choreo and chemistry with his partners for me.

I know I'm in the small minority on this, but if my options were getting rid of just Val and/or getting rid of all the other male pros and only keeping Val...I'd go with the former.  He may be the closest to the original pros, but he's also a fairly crappy human being who can't seem to go more than a handful of days without saying something vaguely racist, classist, or just generally douchey.  It's not the sort of racism that gets one fired, but the more casual racism where he pretends to be down with the culture while pedaling his crappy super white privilege opinions and talking over everyone else that doesn't agree with him.  He's also a great dancer, but not nearly the genius he seems to think he is, so overall I'd ditch the two newlyweds and keep the likes of Alan, who at least seems genuine.

I've just seen too much hate out of Val's mouth over the course of the last 7 or so years disguised under his fake pile of deepness.

And Val is campaigning for Tiffany Haddish online...yeah, that will happen.

I would dump Jenna in a heartbeat. I feel like she and her sister-in-law cemented their places with the show the day they set their sights on the Chmerkovskiy brothers who, unlike many of the other original pros, have not been able to move their careers past the show. Although I'm not sure Val wants to and why should he? Right now, he's pretty much seen as the king of DWTS.

I don't want to hear about Peta and Jenna winning mirrorballs.....while Peta's win with Donald was legit, I will never see her win with Nyle that way. And Jenna's win with Adam was just a joke.

Years ago, one would have thought Derek and Maks would be the two to really break out from the show. Derek has done that, but Maks's career outside the show has turned into a joke that relies on him hitching his wagon to Peta's projects and being some kind of nutritional motivational Instagrammer. Funny for a guy who used to be photographed leaving clubs so drunk that Tony practically had to carry him out.

Eh.  Jenna is not great, but Val is worse.  He's the ringleader.  She just blindly goes where old boy follows, but I've heard too much out of Val's mouth to think he should be on this show shaping young dancers/minds, the way he so clearly want to do.  It still makes me cringe that he appointed himself Laurie's mentor.  I don't follow her, but I sure hope she has found other role models since.  However I'm kidding myself in that Val has a spot as long as he wants one and he needs the paycheck.

As for the latter paragraph, I don't know it's an entirely fair comparison and that is coming from someone who hated Maks for a good long while and who isn't exactly a fan of either Maks or Derek. Pros coming out of this show angling for huge careers have limited options because you are not going to have that sort of huge career by solely being a dancer.  Derek has gotten where he has because in addition to the dancing, choreographing and general personality stuff, he also dabbles in singing and acting.  So he can do Broadway stuff and/or those live musical (such as Hairspray) and leverage his other talents.  If you aren't a DWTS dancer who can sing/act, your options are going to be way more limited.  You are most limited to pushing a lifestyle brand, selling products, hosting things and low level celebrity appearances.  It's the same reason in part why Mark has been successful.  Maks is not a singer or actor.

It's also why Cheryl struggled even though she was popular.  She wasn't a singer or an actress so it mostly left her in the guest appearance or hosting realm of work and that dries up after awhile.

I'm also not going to ignore that blonde blue eyed Utah Derek has a leg up on being accepted in Hollywood over other white Eastern European dudes.  Maks and co. still have a lot of white privilege, but guys with tricky names to pronounce and accents aren't going to be as accepted as the blonde blue eyed guy next door.  It's the same reason why someone like Karina, for all her accolades, would likely get passed over for Witney type in Hollywood.
