Ash Vs Evil Dead - General Discussion

I didn't even know the show was back on air so I am way behind, but I am looking to catch up this week. I watched 1 and 2.

I did like that the first episode just got right back into it. No reason to build it up. Of course, Ash et al., doesn't know it's Ruby running things, so I will be looking forward to that showdown hopefully sooner than later.

I thought that was really funny because Ruby is so fixated on Brandy, but there's got to be so many out there that she just can't track them all down.

So did anyone get the joke in the sperm bank when they were playing "Take On Me" and the woman from the magazine was coming alive to attack Ash?

This is actually great to watch back to back. Bruce Campbell and his faulty hand is killing me. The whole ghost-memory sequence was really good too. At least there's more pages to the book that might help.

Was Bruce and Lucy singing the final song in episode 3 over the credits?

The fight scenes are just nuts this season.

Where are they getting these sets? The scenes in Rudy's house were incredible.

I finally liked Brandy when she was stuck in the trailer with Kelly. I think it finally sunk in at that point that this is all real.

Damn that was fun.

"Just because we're dead doesn't mean we can't try".   Ash going into family protective mode was fun.  Loved the whole "oh shit oh shit' Pablo/Ash scene with Pablo stabbing Ash.

Aw bye again Hot Dalton.  Gotta get Kelly back!  Ghostbeaters never leave a man behind, damn straight.

No big surprise, because I felt it was beginning to run out of ideas by the end of S2. I haven't got round to watching any of S3 until it wraps in April, but it was one hell of a ride for all that. And especially the first season, which truly rocked!

GROOVY!!

Too many fans illegally downloaded this series. Bruce has been talking about this for a while now. Anybody who bitches about the cancellation and didn't watch this show legally have nobody to blame but themselves. Low ratings to any network is important.

Kudos to cast and crew. They did an amazing job.

This.  I'm not happy.  Why can't we have nice things???

At least there's still Z Nation for goofiness and gore.

Bruce Campbell posting this on FB when the news broke left me officially verklempt.

I will always argue that Starz moving their premier showings from Saturday to Sunday nights was stupid.   Saturday nights were once Starz nights in our house between Black Sails, Outlander, and this show.  But once those shows went up against the 10,000 other things on Sunday nights, they were mostly relegated to whenever we could get around to watching them unless it was a particular episode we were just wanting to see live.

Well, the show has been cancelled: https://screenrant.com/ash-vs-evil-dead-canceled-starz-season-3/

Hopefully the last episode wraps things up. I have to admit that I have stopped watched weekly and I was just going to binge-watch the remaining episodes at the end of the season.

That's my plan too!

The first two seasons I watched each episode as they came, but by the end of S2 I was becoming a little less invested and decided to wait until all of S3 had been broadcast and then have a back2back feast over a weekend via DVR.

It's a pity the show has been cancelled, but I think it was the right time to do it.

Bruce Campbell will forever be my Ash, and no one could ever replace him.

I heard about the cancelation and I am bummed. I don't have Starz but I do have Netflix and this gem is up there for streaming. I am hoping that Netflix will add this to their streaming services so I can at least catch the last season.

I think there was a bit more story to tell. Watching Brandy grow as a character has been fun, though Ash will always be the chosen one. Mind you, never say never about the show being gone for good. I wouldn't mind seeing a laid back couple of years of low intensity work to make a "fourth" season and wrap the story arc completly. That or set up a new generation of Brandy versus the evil dead (Maybe they'll do a comic run to explore future storylines?).

Shout out to a show that was a happy surprise. Thanks to the cast and crew. I hope you'll get a chance to reprise the roles sometime soon!

Finally got round to watching the first 6 episodes more or less back2back throughout today, and I have to say to being rather disappointed with the whole affair thus far. Every episode is more or less the same, and if it wasn't for Bruce Campbell's charisma I would have tuned out much earlier. But the blood and gore is repetitive to the point of being boring: so much so that I FF those bits while trying hard to follow the random plots and subplots.

The only true surprise was the "death" of Kelly, but other than that it's more or less painting-by-numbers again.

So pleased this has been cancelled - Season 1, was truly awesome in every conceivable way; but S3 has become a seen-it-all-before bore-fest.

I loved Kelly's reaction to seeing her days-old corpse-y pallor in the mirror after being raised from the dead.

That was pretty good.  I've missed Kelly since Kaya took over her body.  Quick ending for Kaya and Ruby.  The giant creature effects were pretty good.

Ah well, it worked for series finale.  Brandy grew on me but the heart of show for me was Ash, Kelly and Pablo.   I'll miss the Ghostbusters trio and their bloody adventures and snarky one-liners.

It's been fun, maybe we'll get more on Netflix or something someday.

Yep.  We had a movie based in the past (Army of Darkness) and I would surely like to see what they could do in that apocalyptic future.

The people of Elk Grove welcoming Ash as a hero makes no sense. Nor does Linda being deliriously happy to be on Ash's arm after her family was killed off. (Admittedly some of the stuff Thomas did under Baal's influence might reduce the sting of his death, but she's sure as hell not going to shrug off Lacey dying.)

With the altered timeline maybe Ash didn't get disgraced out of town and wound up with Linda....though I'm probably thinking about it wrong.

Only first episode in so far, but my first thought is that the actress playing Brandi looks waaay too old to be in high school while her unfortunately thin-sliced friend does not.  IMBd lists the actress as 26, so I guess we're going for the Luke Perry version of high schoolers.  The anvils were ringing hard that mom (Candy Barr, hee!) had to die to leave the kid with Ash who only learned about her five minutes before and hasn't gotten around to remembering her name yet.  Otherwise, the school and the mascot was a great set piece that was obviously borrowing from the murderous mascots of Five Nights at Freddie's that my tweens are heavily into right now.

The opening commercial was everything in its sheer terribleness.  Of course Ash would open up a hardware store and sex emporium because of course he would.

Brandi looks a little like a cross between Eliza Dushku from Buffy and Sky/Daisy from Agents of Shield. Maybe she got kicked back a few years? I must say I was shocked they killed her mother off so quickly (the actress very Mary McDonnell) I thought there was more to explore from her, a bit more backstory at least?.

Putting aside the utter implausibility of a dinky rundown town having a sperm bank, that fight could have been so much worse.  And we never did get any answers about how many possible other little Ashes might be out there running around.  Brandy is still really flat as a character and not just as a placeholder.

Does no one in this universe ever pause to think maybe not to approach a car that just splattered with blood from the inside or not to walk up and grab someone who suddenly stopped responding or acting normally?

Surely a dinky rundown town would be the ideal place for a sperm bank, for lack of other local 'industry'? As to your second point no because they probably think the driver has had some dreadful road accident and needs help?

So this was the almost naked boobs episode.

The sperm bank fight was pretty funny because it was unexpected and because Bruce Campbell is good at physical comedy.  "I wasn't finished yet" "That's what they all say" Hee.

Brandy seems like she should be a bit more messed up after seeing her mother and friend violently killed by demons and almost killed herself.  The actress is kind of flat and she needs to step up, having to play off such big personalities/characters.

Kelly is the best.  I love the family vibe.

There were naked boobs, at least from the girl in the magazine? Remember Kelly is Ash's daughter and he can laugh off losing his girlfriend/sister/best friend in one night and still crack wise (same with his dad).

1. As Joss Whedon pointed out in Cabin in the Woods, don't people know not to read aloud from creepy old books by now? (I was never phased by the ending, all we need is a really BIG shotgun, preferably thermonuclear). I think they missed a trick when Ruby is rhyming off her names and he's translating them she could have looked surprised and remarked "Nice to meet a man of culture!"

2. So, Mr Pretty Boy Biker, clever to introduce a romantic rival into the mix.

3. Gotta say liking School Marm Lucy, she's certainly not afraid to play around with her image! The white leisure suit is very Abba as the commentary observes, maybe that's why she drives a Volvo?

4. Well, last time Lucy had a baby onscreen she wiped out the Olympian gods so we'll have to see how this one goes. The scene with the hitchikers and grisly mobile is real Texas Chainsaw nightmare stuff.

5. Love Ash's reaction when he first see's his 'daughter', surprised how beautiful she is in a broken wing sort of way. I thought this girl's performance with the instruments was brilliant, especially with the harp and cello bow, what a way to kill her off!

6. So, naked mask chick? Reminded me a little of Zardoz

7. Truly creepy scenes with Cougie, I love how Ash seems more upset that they corrupted his beloved school mascot than the death of the mother of his child

8. Speaking of which that was an incredible death scene for her, you think it's one thing and then it turns out to be the other!

9. What happened to the girlfriend Ash acquired at the end of s2? Or did the death of her daughter/husband finally hit her?

10. I like Ash's attempts to be a father, plenty of comedy to be mined there. I kept expecting him to tell Brandi "You've lost everyone you ever loved but (gestures to the Ghostbeaters) but here are some new people to fill your heart".

11. Did Lee Majors know about Brandi? Is that what he was trying to tell him in s2?

12. Did NO ONE get the Donald Trump joke? The magazine under 'Booty' was titled 'Pussy Grabbers', magazine girl also looked a bit like Stormy Daniels? (But most porn stars have that same look)

I believe neither Kelly and the daughter are really dead, if we can see them in the other dimension it is because they'll come back...   I hope!

Awesome party.  They will remember their graduation!

Amazed they got away with that given the occasional massacres that seem to plague American schools.

Interesting that when Ash's dad comes back as a ghost it proves life beyond death, despite what the evil claimed in s1.

I seem to recall Professor Knowby's ghost making an appearance in Evil Dead 2, so that'd been a feature of the setting almost since the beginning. We didn't know much about it other than Knowby being trapped into haunting the cabin by his tampering with dark forces, though. Brock might be the first hint that all supernatural forces/metaphysical systems aren't evil.

Yes but Knowby was being tortured in hell (come to think about it, what happened to his body?). Brock was very clearly coming from a much better place, despite his accidental killing of the Knight of Sumeria. Of course in the series we see a very different version of Knowby, willing to sacrifice his chippie to save Henrietta.

Finally watched the last season on Netflix over the last few days, including the last 5 episodes in 1 day. I liked it a lot, I think better than season 2 ( although that may have just been the mood I was in).

Although maybe it was me but it seemed like this season, especially the last few episodes used a lot of fake blood, even for this series. Especially lots of people getting covered in blood. All I could think about was how in If Chins Could Kill Bruce talked about was how in the movies the fake blood was corn syrup and food colouring and how they were always sticky. I was wondering if they had improved the fake blood since then.

I remember watching/listening to a commentary/behind the scenes take on Ash vs The Evil Dead Season 1 and they do mentioned that the goal of Raimi is to have everyone cover in as much blood as possible. The more the merry, so to speak. So yeah, that seems to be the goal in each episode.

They are making an Evil Dead video game.

Ash Williams is joined by several familiar faces from across the Evil Dead franchise in a gameplay trailer for Evil Dead: The Game. With Bruce Campbell reprising his iconic role, the gameplay trailer teases locations straight from the popular horror franchise as Ash and his friends work together to battle the armies of darkness and stay alive in cooperative multiplayer.

Created by Saber Interactive, Evil Dead: The Game will release to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows sometime in 2021. No official release date has been announced.
