Today they put up a new (inevitably misleading) photo on the Facebook page, with a creepy doll.   I love creepy doll stories.  I could watch a whole season about creepy dolls and wax figures running wild and chasing after people.  I have loved creepy dolls coming to life (onscreen only!) ever since Talky Tina on The Twilight Zone.  And that hideous beast of a murderous doll on the other Rod Serling show, Night Gallery, was horrifying in its simplicity.  I also loved the Zuni doll chasing after Karen Black in the original Trilogy of Terror.

In the past, AHS has definitely overflowed my personal squick capacity.  I like a spooky tale that makes me peek through my fingers--the torture porn, not so much.  Knock that shit off, Murphy, ya freak!

So far, the connecting feature I've seen in all the ads is the black crinkle-y shards of stuff.  Fine, but . . .  dolls who come to life SO THEY CAN KILL YOU is the stuff of nightmares.

The gore has definitely gotten to be too much for me at times.  It seems like it's just there for shock only most of the time, rather than being something truly necessary, organic and relevant to the stories (like in the case of The Walking Dead, which is also way too gory for me and makes me cover my eyes, but the gore feels like a necessary evil in the story).

I wouldn't be surprised if this whole upcoming AHS season is just about black, crinkle-y shards of stuff, emerging from a mist.  I'm not holding out hope for too much more than that at this point.  Sadly, my hopes of a whole season about creepy dolls are not to be fulfilled.

I do wonder about how the episodes are being referring to as "Chapters" this time around, or so it seems.  The first one is "Chapter 1."  Correct me if I'm wrong, but the previous seasons' episodes have not been called Chapters, have they?   That "Chapter" deal would make sense if the whole season were called something like "American Horror Story: Nightmare Tales," or "AHS: Tales from The Mist," or "Tales of Terror," or "Stories from Beyond" or whatever.  But a whole season called "The Mist" doesn't make sense with the Chapters, unless it is framed as some sort of unfolding story that is being told/conveyed as a running thread through the season.

Well, I guess I'll have my answers about the Chapters in 6 days.

TWD is pretty gory, but, you know, heh, zombies.  I can't think of any torture, though, whereas R. Murphy loooves strapping people down and getting busy or nailing body parts here and there.  You know he's always going to up the ante on that, too.  Oof, I don't even think it's healthy to put that stuff out into the universe

For the demon dollies, I guess one of us is doomed to disappointment.  Lol!

(I'll give that skittering little voodoo dude full credit for creating an instant classic horror archetype.  Putting the camera at floor/eye-level was brilliant. *shudder*  I didn't mind Talky Tina; my Chatty Cathy and Chatty Baby would have done the same for me if I'd needed protection.  That's a dolly's job, right?)

Maybe the "chapter" system will have something to do with clarifying a non-linear timeline?

It's not easy to squick me, at all, but the drilldo achieved that, I have to admit. That was too much.

Not sure if I'll watch this season though. I bailed early on s4 and didn't finish Hotel as well (although I lasted until the finale).

I feel the same.

I think I lasted through witches, freaks and part of hotel because the "Murder House" had a clever, interesting concept and then, just the idea of being trapped in an abusive insane asylum was terrifying enough to sustain itself.  (Likewise, I once spent months with a jerk, bedazzled by a creative first date. *facepalm*  I'm a fool for first impressions.)

Depends on whether the "horror" is plot-based or random acts of unsedated surgery.  Two episodes, Ryan.  Go.

I had to scroll through the TV Guide area, to set my DVR to record. It usually picks up the new seasons, but it didn't this time. Those planning to record, might want to check and make sure it's set. Mine only says something like, "American Horror Story: 6" with "Chapter 1" in the description.

At this point it is just annoying that they are being so secretive. The show is airing THIS WEEK, FFS. Being so tight-lipped that the cable box can't even see that it's a new episode is a whole other level. Honestly, it just feels like Ryan Murphy is getting off on feeling smarter than his audience, and it's insulting.

My cable box also says "Chapter 1".   Since the show starts in 2 days no way that Ryan says anything now.  I will check it out since I have been watching from the start but if the first couple of episodes don't hold my interest I will be out.

The info. on my listings is:

Spoiler

Nightmares become an inescapable reality as unique stories of people's lives in America reveal the astonishing power of the supernatural.

I had to double check to make sure I was recording the correct show. It sounds like one of those Ghost Hunters descriptions
