S02.E08: Something Rotten in Denmark

Annabelle hits the catwalk with Naomi Campbell as Marissa and Juliet gather together to watch. Meanwhile, Caroline Stanbury reaches a breaking point with her gift library, and Caroline Fleming invites the ladies to her homeland of Denmark.

So - I'll get us started with the gossipy bitchfest about these gossipy bitches :)

First of all, I thought Julie looked the best I have ever seen her tonight at the final dinner, in the green top with her hair pulled into the low chignon.  Her makeup was still 'off' but in the soft light she looked very nice.  That being said, she has man hands that make Kyle Richards' hands look as dainty as a Disney princess'.  I have bleached my eyes and can now pretend the Jub Butt Extravaganza was merely a dream.

Still can't stand Juliet but I was proud of her "I'm very happy and grateful" at dinner.  Well played!

Caroline F. is a shit-stirrer and I was on Team Marissa with all of her snark this evening, from having to apologize AGAIN to snoozing during the HILARIOUS tale of the restaurant getting CF's food from the hotel, to the "therapy courtesy of Annabelle" snark at the end of the evening.  I find Annabelle dull, and wonder if it was merely "her turn" to be the PITA this evening.

Overall I enjoyed the Denmark bits, although my feet in their slippers are aching at the mere thought of stilettos on cobblestones!  And it seems pleasant thus far, although I see in the previews that the bad manners will be back with a vengeance next week at CF's "family home" - hehe.  If you don't want bitches cutting up at your parents house, don't order drinks, rile them up and then bring them there.  (Another reason I'd be boring on TV!!)

Once again it remains to be said that if Caroline Fleming's family is inclined to believe Marissa over Caroline that shows how Caroline fucked up this relationship, not Marissa. There is no more need to grovel for forgiveness from the ex-Baroness Fleming. Plus I feel Caroline hired her lone paparazzo.

Poor Caroline S. feels so very sad about the business she mismanaged and ran into the ground.

Ugh Annabelle is back to being insufferable. She can never just sit down talk things out. She has to be smug, snide, and sour. For all of the talk about Americans being so sensitive, we've seen just as much ridiculous oversensitivity from the Brits and Caroline Fleming.

Because I'm an awful person, I'm hoping that Annabelle's distressing news is that zombie Alexander McQueen is dead again.

Why is Annabelle such a pill again?  Why was she expecting Julie to come and ask her what's wrong?  If something is wrong, why doesn't she just say so?

meds, my dear.  meds is most likely the culprit.  next year, she will probably milk this shit by saying she has pain meds addiction just to get some story.

Julie still looks dreadful & sickly to me.  Still with the canary yellow hair.  Blech.

Um, just how old is Naomi Campbell by now?  200?  Doesn't she have about the same disposition as Annabelle?  OK then, so Annabelle is back to being Annabelle, when she isn't chowing down happy pills by the fistfuls.  Juliet gave me a giggle when she said she found her passion -- fashion.  Suppressing chuckles, chortles, giggles & belly laughs.  Alrighty hun, maybe you can now find yourself a decent hairstyle & color & clothes that don't look like a mess.  Cuz that's your usual look, Juliet.  She & Julie look very out-of-place with the other women -- kinda like the poor relations.

So Caroline S's gay accessory & Sophie are regulars now?  I have really lost any love or even any interest I had in this show.  This ep was a snooze.

Why was Caroline F so freakin' weird with Marissa?  Is she still sulking about the child molester implication?  Maybe cuz she's dating teenagers now?  Could be.

I don't know if it was the sepia filter they used on that flashback with Annabelle, but Julie looked so much better as a friend of the ladies. I feel cheated that it didn't carry over to this season.

And I can't take sides between Marissa or Caroline because they're both pills, but if one of them has to go, it's Marissa because she doesn't come with the castle/house porn.

I can easily choose sides between Caroline F and Marissa because Caroline F. Is just over the top ridiculous. Marissa is not supposed to tell her best friend her opinion out of loyalty to someone she barely knows. It wasn't even spreading gossip she was asked what she thought of her boyfriend just because her family values Marissa' s opinion and judgement over Caroline F is on her not Marissa.

I see Annabelle's back to her old self again - she must be feeling better.  Why am I not surprised she's such good friends with Naomi Campbell?  Turds of a feather flock together.

Caroline F putting on airs was amusing; the poor dear tries SO hard, bless her heart.

So far, the 'Ugly Americans' haven't ruined the trip; the Brits must be ever so disappointed.  Perhaps that's why they're turning on each other (or maybe they're just snots).

I fear Naomi Campbell is making one last attempt to revive her career. We see her here and also on American Horror Story. She's a creeping menace. Scenes of this whack job trying to be all "we're girlfriends, let's sit down and schmooze while I pretend to care about you" make me snort. Is she auditioning for a role here? Cannot stand her, want her off my screen.

When did Caroline F. produce her very young children? She's had two non-marital relationships since her marriage, yet has little kids? I'm confused.

My guess is that AnnaPill is going to milk some kind of post-accident malaise, such as the need for another surgery.

I missed the first 15 minutes, what happened with Annabelle that made her have a bitchy attitude for the rest of the episode?

OMG, Caroline F made Marissa apologize AGAIN for saying she didn't like her bf! I'm sorry, but since when does Marissa's opinion of him carry so much influence with her family? Methinks there are other reasons they don't like him.

Copenhagen looked so pretty, but why go shopping at a furrier? Wearing fur is such a devisive issue, and it put Julie in a uncomfortable position. Why not shop somewhere else.

I was lol at the papparazzi (singular). What was up with that? And I am tiring of Caroline's gay being given full time status.

I could have lived without Julie's ass painting

I think so, too. That was just so ridiculous. I was waiting for flashes through the restaurant window.

The blondes were extremely yellow in the fur shop. I don't get it.

My favorite things about this show are the locations and filming. They make Copenhagen look as lovely as they make London look. Of course they have great raw material, but I don't feel that NYC looks so great on the Real Housewives. I am always ready to book a flight after this show.

I'm sorry if it's not coming back. As ridiculous as it is, I enjoy it. Annabelle is a piece of work (Wait for me at the airport. I'm waiting outside, why didn't you notice me?! Ask me what's wrong with me, You're rude if you don't want to fur shop, but I'll leave hunting or whatever whenever I feel like it. Let me air my grievances, and then pout when someone says something about me), but they are all, really.

If there were no TV show, would the make-up artist spend this much time with CS? She thinks of him as one of her best friends; is she still paying him to do her make-up?

But he's correct: two women hanging out with identical Birkins makes you think the Birkins are fake.

CS regrets hiring 40+ employees. She should have asked Cem his opinion on that decision.

Caroline F's lips sure look beefy in some shots. I think the lipstick was wearing off, or something. Anyhow, they had some marbling effect that was disturbing. Are those lips natural or enhanced? It was gross when manservant Luke was troweling on the makeup as Caroline laid her big head back on the sofa.

I don't get Annabelle as a model. Not tall enough, not really pretty enough, and a bit long in the tooth. Is she a model because she was Alexander McQueen's muse, and that's the only reason?

The Americans all have awful nasal intonations. Especially Marissa. I think it might be a Midwestern thing, but I'm not sure. I've lived on both coasts but never in the middle. It's hard to explain, but there's an awful flat nasal tone and not much inflection when they speak.

OK. Julie needs to cool it with her frantic big man hands as she speaks. And is showing her ass really the only way she can help Mapperton? Also, I can't stand the way she has adopted the British way of aspirating her T's. Instead of saying "bottom painting" she says BOT-tom PAINT-ting. That's very affected and hard on my ears, knowing that she's not British.

I agree with you about Annabelle. I'm too lazy to google her portfolio, but I have trouble seeing the appeal. Wide-set eyes are a plus, but otherwise? I wonder if McQueen and she were friends first, and then he decided to use her as his muse. I'm speculating that her face wasn't so lumpy 20 years ago.

Julie and the Ts. I wouldn't be surprised if she pronounces certain words that way only because she heard her husband pronounce them that way. She seems a little naive and ignorant; she might actually think the word shooTING is different from shooting. Might be spelled the same or different. Example, lead as a verb vs. lead the noun, lose vs. loose. I think Julie is extremely nice and sweet but can be a little dim.

I think you'd all hate the way I talk.  I'm a midwesterner who pronounces her Ts instead of making them sound like the more prevalent and more slurred d around here.  That is due to 10 years of speech therapy and being taught the "correct" way to speak.  I'm from the Chicago area and this area does have a more nasal way of speaking which can account for Julie's accent.  I don't know where Marissa and Juliet are from specifically so I can't speak to them.  http://www.wbez.org/series/curious-city/chuh-kaw-go-what-do-you-really-sound-103361 Here's an article about the Chicago accent, which is not limited to Chicago, other cities in other states sound like it too.

What's funny is I get a ton of people asking if I'm British because of how sharply I say my Ts and how I don't drag out my vowel sounds, they are shorter.  These people obviously don't know a British accent from a hole in their head.  I just correct them and move on. They've also asked if I'm Irish or French, so I take it that I sound vaguely European to them.

I've never been a touch-feely person, so them kissing every time they meet grosses me out and seems unnecessary.

I'm surprised the ass painting thing was ok with Julie's aristocratic in-laws.

I grew up with Eastern European immigrant parents and being kissed when you greet is second nature to me.  I don't even think twice about it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in pronouncing the T.  New-speak drives me batshit with their dropping of this consonant.  That ad about rainbows on roses and whiskers on ki'ens makes me stabby.

Dropping the T is something totally different.  I'm talking about pronouncing the T as a D.  Like if you had the word intermittent, and you said it intermiddent.  It's a lazy tongue thing, you make less effort to get the D sound than the T sound.

I don't know how Luke runs his business but I'm a makeup artist as well and there are only two people who get my services for free. The first is my mom, of course. The second is a friend who much like Caroline, is my best friend and best client. She is also an heiress and has become somewhat of a C-list model/personality. Using her connections, she has done so much to help me build my clientele and I never charge her for my services. However, sometimes the production foots the bill and all she has to do is request me as a mua or she'll hire me to do makeup on others for an event. I have been whisked off on a trip, like Luke was to Denmark, when she wanted me to do makeup on everyone for the trip. She covered all my costs (hotel, transport, etc) and still paid me my rate.

My guess is that Luke isn't charging Caroline because he gets the free exposure from the show. For a normal mua, to take five days off and go to Denmark only to dote on half a dozen ladies, would be a paid job, all expenses covered. But given that he gets to rub elbows with royalty and show off his skills on television, he probably comp'd it, unless Caroline hired him out for the trip. Seems like something she would do to bring a sidekick. I know Bravo only hires mua/h for the reunions and talking heads.

I don't know why Julie had him to her hair and makeup if they cropped her face out anyway, but I'm guessing she had to hire him for that.

Very interesting -- thanks for sharing.  Yeah, the truth is, nobody should feel badly for Luke.  Even if he isn't getting paid well, the exposure he's getting is awesome.  I just don't like the implication here, that he's Caroline's gay slave, whose only purpose in life is to fix her hair & makeup, from the moment she wakes until she goes to sleep.  That turns me off big time.

Er, and btw, Julie hasn't got the dough to pay anyone anything.  She's the Sonja Morgan of this show.  Unless it's from free interns, she ain't paying for any services.  The implication here is, Caroline just ordered her gay slave to do up the others on the show.  Not sure where this implication comes from -- the producers or awful Caroline.  Doesn't matter really.  The implication is gross.

Why show fur?  I don't especially have an issue with anyone wearing fur, but this scene really squicked me out.  And Ms. Vegan Julie was OK with this?  No likey.

Oh my goodness, Annabelle walking down the runway?  Reminded me of the Moaner when she walked down the runway.  Totally deluded & overly confident & didn't look in the least like a model, but very satisfied with herself.  Except unlike the Moaner, Annabelle looked stoned, stoned, stoned.

All season I've been asking myself whether I should rewatch the first season to figure out why I disliked Annabelle so fiercely when she's such a nice gal.  It's all coming back to me, now...

I continue to like Marissa.  Not that I think we'd be besties or anything, but what some see as mean girl bitch face, I see as the face I probably put on when somebody's trying to make me do something I have no intention of doing.  For example, the whole "time for your next apology" speech from Caroline F.  The set in Marissa's jaw and eyes was clear as day -- "sorry, you phony -- ramble on all you want, but this scene is not going to play out the way you think it is, with me groveling."

Such a hassle when you fly into your home airport, have somebody standing there holding a sign announcing your actual name and title, and the paps somehow manage to find you.  Vultures!

As for Annabelle's Helpful Hints, well played, Juliet -- well played!

Totally agree. And if the "Baroness" Fleming is so famous in Denmark, I am surprised the driver didn't recognize her. Plus what happened to the 'she gave up her title to marry'? Even more, how is the daughter of a Baron a Baroness anyway? Wouldn't that be her mother's title, with her as a 'lady' or 'honorable' before her name??

Jeez Caroline F, if you say you accept the apology and are willing to move on, do it! And stop blaming others for your lousy relationship with your family.

Can I also say I loved that at first, during that ridiculous story about how the chef catered to her, she confused kilos with kilograms. Hilarious! And how pretentious to tell the story at all.

What was Annabelle so pissed off about? A vegan not shopping for fur seems like a no-brainier to me.

Julie doesn't seem to understand the the concept/purpose of advertising for the product is not about her getting beyond her fears or whatever bullshit she was talking about. Shouldn't she have consulted her new partners about the ad campaign?

Everyone (except Annabell) was right to not indulge Caroline F with her "tell it now or let it go" invitation, one she should have remembered before she demanded yet another apology. And Annabelle's decision to lecture people at dinner was just wrong. For all the talk about how the Brits are more cultured, we didn't see any of that last night.

I cracked up when Marissa brought the pheasant to the butcher(?) and told him the bullets were still inside. You could tell by the blank look on her face she didn't understand the difference between shot and bullets.

Caroline F is annoying as hell and I appreciated Julie going to the coffee shop instead of pretending that she was happy in the fur shop. Being a vegetarian, fur coats go against her sensitivity plus she probably couldn't afford one cause you know - Mapperton.

Caroline F is insufferable. Something is very, very off with that one. She sure is sensitive about having that younger boyfriend. Maybe if she would keep her mouth shut about it, nobody would care. If I were Marissa, I would have gotten up and walked out as soon as CF started in again wanting a second apology. She gave a heartfelt apology once. Enough already.

I'm confused about the modeling world. I thought once you reached 30 you were kicked to the curb. So the up and coming 17-22 year olds can get their turn. Naomi has got to be in her late 40's right? And she's still on the catwalk? And Annabell is in to her mid 30's, and appears to be too short to do runway. So what gives?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my disdain for the effin' intolerable Baroness of Denmark. Caroline F. really needs to get over herself and stop swanning around, swirling her cape, and looking like she suck lemons.

She ain't all that, and I don't give two hoots about who her "ninth great-grandfather" is. She acted like she was doing the "ladies" a real service showing them the statue of him. And the boorish story of how they got the cheese to make her special dish. Dang!

Brag, brag, brag, swan, swan, swan, lecture, lecture, lecture.

If I could blow raspberries in that sour puss of hers, I would.

I'm sorry that Annabelle took Caroline F's bait at the dinner discussion and proved herself as insufferable as Caroline F. I mean really, who does she think she is? I can't imagine anyone holding court like that and telling each person what they need to do to improve in Annabelle's eyes. And she wrote a book about children's bullying. Yah, I guess she did write that book!

Fashion for Relief is Naomi's charity event to kick off the season. Most of the 'models' are socialites with wealthy friends. I believe Nicole Richie walked the runway in the early years. Kate Moss stumbles in every once in a while.

I think she's vegan for health/"yoga cool" reasons.  I'm guessing that she's not much of a "shopper" anyway, and having it be fur just made it slightly less interesting.  When I'm on vacation with a group of ladies and "shopping time" begins, I'm usually part of the group hitting the pub instead, so I can relate!

Fleming is getting a big huge side-eye from me about the young dudes, cuz they're getting younger & younger & younger as she gets older.  She really does have a history of ONLY being with much younger dudes.  This last one was 21, and my guess is the next one will be 18 & then after that?  Me thinks Marissa called this one right on.

Well, you quoted me without attributing it to me, so I'll answer why I asked "why show fur?"  As I said above, I don't have an issue with fur.  But many people do & I would be respectful to those who have an issue with fur.  Fleming was thoughtless as usual.  With each passing ep I like her considerably less & less & less.  I wouldn't expect the other Caroline or Sophie to be anything other than absolutely thoughtless.  Yawn, those 2 were merely predictable.  Just waiting to hear more American hate coming out of their traps.  And Annabelle?  Ugh, the woman is truly horrible.  Why was McQueen so into this dreadful woman?

I saw this in a FB comments section about last night's show. It made me laugh.

I am infatuated with watching Caroline Fleming. I cannot explain it. Her personality is quite confusing and fluctuates not up and down but rather left and right. Think Mad Hatter meets Julie Andrews mixed with Napoleon Bonaparte topped with Marie Antoinette.
