I always like when voters share their insight and going against expectations even when they know someone is locked (like voting for Adam knowing Joaquin will probably win). I've changed my tune on predictions since OUaTiH has lost momentum. I'm now going with Parasite and 1917 splitting the top 2 (which way I'm not sure probably Parasite winning picture and Mendes winning director although I would prefer it the other way). I came to that conclusion before the alleged leaks. 1917 will probably take a decent amount of the tech awards. I'm predicting it will split the two sound awards with Ford v. Ferrari since it's the only award that one will likely win. Deakins or bust on cinematography. 1 Link to comment

They say she had a "memorable" previous nomination, implying it was just one and that she didn't win. Kirkland's nomination for 1987's little-seen Anna, up against heavy hitters Cher, Close, Hunter, and Streep, was definitely memorable. It could be someone else, of course, but the rest of the personal details match up too. Not to be confused with the actress in the Hollywood Reporter piece, who doesn't want foreign films up for Best Picture and doesn't want non-Americans playing Americans (except for Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, which somehow was fine). I also loved Pain and Glory and Little Women but loved this one the best. I saw all of those very close together. And I want Elton to win for song. I also loved Rocketman. TVFan17 February 9, 2020 Share February 9, 2020 I remember that there was a time when I used to enjoy the pre-red carpet all-day Oscar coverage on the E! channel, as well as the post-ceremony after-party coverage. The guests used to be better and more entertaining. But now it's the cast of Vanderpump Rules playing games and trying to guess movie titles (and I refuse to believe that these people were actually guessing correctly as much as it looked like they were -- I think they were told the answers before they started playing). We're having a rainy day in Los Angeles today, and it always seems that rain clears up in time for red carpet arrivals in any other year. Today I don't know if it will clear up, so the tent is covered -- but the local news folks on the carpet are concerned that the pools of water are going to leak through, which should be fun! 3 Link to comment

I think E! is saying that their coverage begins at 2 p.m. Pacific time -- so in just 10 minutes, I don't know if anyone interesting will show up then. My footwear is from the $1 bin at Target with those rubber things on the bottom so I don't slip and slide, and I have passed on the variety of bling that was available tonight (although I may pull out my birthday tiara as the evening wears on, that was designed by Party Store). Bring it, Oscars! Great idea! I myself am wearing a long pajama shirt from a couple weeks ago for $29.99. I've chosen to pair this with a pair of plaid pajama bottoms from a few years ago for $10. Rounding out this high quality ensemble is a pair of socks from a $9.99 pack and a worn out pair of loafer like slippers that I bought for less than $2 years ago during a 90% off sale. The entire ensemble was purchased at Target. My meal for the evening is a bowl of linguine red sauce with a plan to have dark chocolate brownies for dessert. This meal was also purchased at Target. I assume Target will be one of the commercials we see tonight so they are an appropriate sponsor of my jammies and food. I'm fortunate to have two escorts for the event: Gus and Cleo. Actual award categories aside, just as far as the entertainment value, energy level, dynamics of the presenters, the various audience members interacting with each other, the unpredictable moments onstage, wacky acceptance speeches, etc. ..... I find that awards shows in general are either way too safe and too dull, or they go in the complete opposite direction and try to be way too zany and edgy. I tend to dislike either extreme. I don't want a show where people are trying too hard to be as crazy and irreverent as they can be. I tend to like the shows that I expect are going to be pretty run-of-the-mill and safe, but that end up becoming crazy as the night goes on, and are full of unexpected moments that shake things up. The Tony's and Grammy's are my favorite awards shows because of the live performances. But I always find the Golden Globes to be the most entertaining film award show. 1 Link to comment

I'm pulling for Parasite personally but I expect Mendes to win another Director Oscar and that could sway some of the voters to giving 1917 Picture as well. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was very well received in the industry and we know they love awarding themselves so it could be the spoiler. Or maybe Joker will follow up all those nominations with the big one. Or the ranked voting could allow Marriage Story, The Irishman, Little Women, or Jojo Rabbit to sneak in and take it (sorry, Ford vs Ferrari but I'm legit surprised you got nominated at all). Given the support for Parasite and the two standing ovations it got at SAG and Independent Spirit Awards respectively, it's my pick but it could legit to go almost any of the nominees.
