Crimes You'd Like To See On Dateline: Calling Keith Morrison!

I'm questioning the statement that Jacob Patterson has no record.    I'm betting he either has a juvenile record, or they did some diversion to keep his record clear.    .

Agreed. And even if he doesn't have a criminal record, at the very least, I'm willing to bet there were a HELL of a lot of warning signs he was giving off that nobody bothered to pay attention to until it was too late. He was likely very quick to anger, for instance,, or he abused animals, or, given the incel discussion, people saw him exhibit extreme jealousy in regards to women and heard him saying a bunch of horrible things about women, either online or when hanging out with others. Stuff like that.

I’m betting the farm that Patterson and she had an online relationship of some type. No way a guy just shows up, shoots the parents and kidnaps the girl unless there is a lot more to the story.

A lot of info is coming out in the last 2 days and no way to know what is true or false, but I read that Jacob Patterson did handyman work for the Closs family in the past and they think that's when he got fixated on the daughter.   Another funky story is going around -- some other creep had become obsessed with Jayme in the last few years and stole some of her underwear from the house.   I didn't search out any more details on this - the current mess is sickening enough.   Anyway, if this is true, then that area of the country sounds like a real dangerous place for the female population.

Is there an area of the country that isn't dangerous for the female population?  Because from the true crime I watch, no place is safe.   :-(

I'll hold off commenting on the abduction story until further investigation.  It's early in this story.

The sheriff only said that he didn't have a record in the state of WI.  He may have had a juvie record or an out-of-state record but it wasn't part of the information they were giving out.

And I actually can believe he didn't have a previous record.  So many of the people who murder on Dateline didn't have previous records until they killed. It's the hitmen who have the records.

But wouldn't law enforcement have discovered that?  They may not have known who the kidnapper and killer were but they likely would have dug deep into Jayme's social media history once they reached the conclusion that Jayme was the target.

48 Hours is having a special on it tonight and I've read rumors Dateline had people there as well. It'll be interesting to see what info was released on Monday when the criminal complaint is filed.

They could have, and might be how they eventually found her. The guy could be using spoof techniques to hide his actual location. They will hold off on announcing what they know until they get all their ducks in a row and the DAs office gets the various charges filed.

They didn't find her.  She escaped, ran to a woman walking a dog and then they ran to a neighbor who called the cops.

The media did ask about whether or not they had a connection on social media.  The sheriff said that they did not believe so. I think he would have said something like "I don't know" or "we're not revealing that information at this time" (both of which he said in response to other questions) if they had discovered something suspicious in her social media activity.

Thank you for the latest info.... I hadn’t heard that, looked it up, and hopefully they get to the bottom of why he did this.

The latest update I saw said that the murderer saw the girl get on or off the school bus, and found an instant attraction.     He apparently went to her house twice before, but there were too many people around, so he waited until the third trip.      Then he went to the house, shot the father either in the doorway, or through the door, the wife and daughter were hiding in the bathtub, he killed the mother, and threw the girl in his car trunk.     Any time he went out she was confined in some area of the house he thought was secure, but the last time she managed to wriggle out, and escape, and ran to the woman walking her dog.     Then they both went as fast as they could to the neighbor's house, banged on the door, the homeowner's took them in, called 911, and because it's such a remote area the sheriff's office took a while to get there, and the others stood guard with weapons in case the murderer started searching houses.      The sheriff's deputies took Jayme with them, and the homeowner was told to lock up, the women and kids went to the basement, and the homeowner stood guard in case Patterson came to the house.     When the sheriff's people came, they hunted the murderer down, who was looking for Jayme, and armed.

I guess bail is mandatory there, because it was set at $5 million.   His father and brother were crying in the audience, which since the brother is a registered sex offender is less than believable to me, and brother also has several other convictions.    The story the father told that he has no contact with either son isn't believable to me.       It will be interesting to see if the bond amount is raised, and this murderer gets out on bail.

The defense attorneys are going to challenge the confession, and think they should get a change in venue to get a fair trial.   Where do they want to change it to, Mars?

I read a new report today, saying that Patterson the murderer had a Christmas party with his family, and all the while the girl was captive under the bed.   So much for the pathetic lie from Patterson's father that he is estranged from his two sons, the convicted sex offender, and the murderer/kidnapper.     This party also happened after the property was given back to the bank too., so they're squatters too.

There is still a lot of uncomfirmed information floating out there and it's hard to tell what is official and what is not.  But I think the claim that they were estranged was just a rumor.  As is the fact that they don't own the house any longer.

Depending on the location, some banks or mortgage companies can take years to do anything about a house they foreclosed on, or had turned back in by the owner.   Some banks specialize in buying the back mortgages, and own thousands of houses.     However, in the Patterson case, the father seems to be trying to get himself off of the radar of police and prosecutors, so as Judge Marilyn says, "I wouldn't believe him if his tongue was notorized."

Where I used to live, the house next door was foreclosed on, and not touched for over two years.

There was on subdivision about 10 miles from where I lived, and tons of the houses there were foreclosures, and one national bank bought the mortgages, and had a lock up company come through, change the locks, and have their out of town, cut rate realtor list them.    Some of those houses were vacant for a year or more, and a few had squatters until the lock up company dropped by, and kicked the people out.       Except for the lock up company, no one except the photographer went in the houses once the lock boxes were put on.

I'm totally judging her and her parents here. Her twins were at the most 4 weeks old. I love a break from my kids too but at that age, I can't imagine going to a bar for several hours. I was too tired and I would feel guilty leaving my mom with 4 young kids. Couple hours sure?

I'm 35 and I'm still scared of my mom, lol. She would have ripped me a new one if I called home at 2:30 am and said I would be home in a few hours.

All that being said, I don't think she deserves whatever happened to her. She is likely dead, imo.

But it's one of the situations I side eye and am all WHY?

Thank you for typing what I was thinking, but I'm going to add: I was in no mood for ahem, 'romance' 4 weeks after my kids were born either. I was tired and sore and not exactly feeling sexy at that point. I, too, do not believe she deserves anything bad to happen to her, but man her judgement and priorities are way off.

Just saw this crazy story on Yahoo that involves sex, drugs and murder:  mid-20's son falls in love with a Bulgarian porn star on the internet and steals $210K from his family to send to her.  Parents tell him he has to stop or leave their house, so he kills them and his brother.  Also, son was training to be a nurse anesthetist and gets booted from the program when it's discovered that he's been stealing Propofol from patients.   This could be a great Keith Morrison segment... he would tease every iota of sleaze out of this one.

Wow.  Evidently too much porn not only turns you into a homicidal maniac, but it prematurely ages you and makes your hair fall out.  I must show his picture to my husband.

Updated stories, the entire Patterson family was in the cabin for a holiday party, with the girl under the bed.      So much for the father claiming he didn't have much to do with the sex offender son, or the murderer/kidnapper son.

This story is still pending but looks like a classic "the husband did it" setup -- divorcing couple, missing (estranged) wife, children in the middle, mysterious text from "wife" with ominous message.  I hope it turns out okay, but this is one we've seen many times.

ADDED:   Two days after this news story dropped, the husband and his GF were arrested for the murder of this poor woman, whose torched body was found in a storage facility.  These guys are so arrogant - they never learn that the spotlight is going to be on them immediately.

Sometimes I think people watch this show for ideas on how to kill someone.

There’s a part of me that kind of take mental notes, just in case.

There is a local case from 1999, the murder of two high school girls.    After all of these years, there has been an arrest, based on a DNA match.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/dna-links-suspect-1999-cold-case-murders-alabama/story?id=61743627

I don't know how long until the trial starts, but it should end up another case of DNA matching, and the defense claiming it doesn't say that the defendant also murdered the women.     The man has apparently worked as a long haul truck driver, so I'm wondering if the DNA matches, and having his on file will link to other cases?

I know people who are outraged about DNA matches, and think they're secretly using the genealogy databases, but this is from national databases of people who voluntarily put their DNA on file to find relatives.     I have zero issue if my 23 & Me or Ancestry . com samples were matched to help solve a murder with relationship DNA, but I know people who refuse to do any DNA sample.

I’ve always thought it the very least these DNA banks should be used to identify bodies that they can’t otherwise identify. There shouldn’t be any privacy issues with that since it’s identifying the victim (not necessarily of a crime) not a perpetrator (unless it was death by suicide). I also don’t mind them using DNA banks to catch killers but I get the reason why people are uneasy about it.
