I want Alicia to have a hot affair with Jason, and I also want her to get out of her sham of a marriage to Peter.  Alicia should have ditched Peter back in Season One.

 

What is Eli's plan?  He knows where all the bodies are buried so what is the point in trying to dig up more dirt?  If Eli wanted to, he could already torpedo Peter's career.  Peter's career recovering from the original scandal wasn't believable in the first place.

 

So once again Stern, Lockhart, Gardner, Florick, Aggos, Lee, Canning, Florick, Aggos, Lockhart, Aggos, - did I leave off any names - is going to have the attorneys fighting with each other.  Is there going to be another name change?  Will Cary go join Alicia's private practice?  How many more times are they going to do this?

It's still three separate shows. 

 

And what the hell was with West Wing 2.0 this week? Why was Ruth trying to drag Nora to the dark side? Why would she assume Nora, who's worked with Eli for years and who's been treated well, wouldn't be loyal to Eli? She wasn't even offering Nora anything. Why was the show acting like Ruth set Eli up by way of Alicia when they went to see Frank Landau? A local party apparatchik isn't going to screw over the Governor/possible VP, especially when he has nothing personal against the Florricks (at least with regards to the "stolen" SA election) so how was Eli the hero?

 

And why was Alicia even listening to that sleaze bag who tarnished her reputation and humiliated her in public? Why does it benefit her to be on some corrupt committee? Is this some sort of long con to screw over Peter? That would be fun. And for that matter, the absolute last thing Peter or Ruth should want is for Alicia to be within 100 feet of the famously corrupt (on the show and in real life) Chicago political machine. (Uh, no offence to any Chicagoans). So when aren't they putting a stop to it? It makes more sense than complaining Alicia's a defence lawyer. It's probably true that voters don't like defence lawyers because they free the bad guys, but ​Alicia wasn't a criminal defence lawyer in this episode.  She was defending a clean-cut young man against the hoity-toity fancy art perverts, which the voters should love.

 

Also, I assume the show is just going to forget all about the leaked emails that showed Alicia was sleeping with her boss.

And the budding romance between Alicia and Jason Crouse? Don't care, don't care, don't care. I got why she wanted to be with Will. There was drama to that. Even with Finn, I got slightly invested after awhile. But it's just not that interesting to watch two pleasant people be attracted to each other. They better start introducing some complications into that relationship, preferably Ruth or Peter

Nice seeing Cary win for once, and I certainly won't miss seeing Howard. I loved David's response, "easiest ultimatum ever." I can't believe Howard thought they'd go for that. Cary's a name partner.

So new guy gave up $155 per hour to what? Bask in Alicia's presence? That's a pretty expensive (potential) f*(k.

Eli and Nora were awesome as always.

Interesting COTW. Geez, that mom was creepy. I don't get why Lucca is toiling in bond court when she's always a step ahead of Alicia, who's supposed to be some high-powered attorney.

LOVED Nancy's grey dress with the tangerine inserts. I want. (I also want Mamie Gummer's figure so I could actually wear it! )

I can't believe this show is depicting the Governor of Illinois running a presidential bid out of the freakin' Governor's Office.  No, you can't mingle your state resources (people and space) with the DNC -- the presidential campaign needs to be completely off-site and separate.  Even if he is calling donors, it needs to be from separate phones and not from the Governor's Office. 

 

I was liking the case until it turned into the History of Western Art, minus clothing.  What kind of courtroom has that kind of time?  It was good to see Amy Irving looking so elegant and artistic. 

 

I was enjoying watching the first P.I. turn into a piece of toast -- "I have one or two leads.  Should I bill you directly?"  "I put my body and soul into this (for the past six hours)." 

 

So, is Grace working on her GED in the evenings?  Or are we supposed to forget she is in high school, like Alicia has forgotten. 


So new guy gave up $155 per hour to what? Bask in Alicia's presence?

No, he gave up *$250*/hour!  I thought perhaps he agreed to be non-exclusive with Lockhart Gardner Cary Howie....(agggggh, I just can't with the name).

I think photo fox subtracted his rate working for Alicia from Diane's offered rate to get the 155.

Can anyone tell me what happened in the last couple of minutes?  My recording cut off just as JDM showed up to accept Alicia's offer. 

 

Naked Boy should have hired a PR firm instead of a lawyer.  A big publicity stink would have been more effective in getting the exhibit shut down, and he probably could have gotten a real law firm with real resources to take on his case pro bono.

Oh, I thought Alicia was just so darn special that men are willing to work for 1/3 the price just to be around her. And darn that Grace is amazing at picking out the right candidate too!

So much icky. Hard to believe a museum big enough to have a gift shop selling special exhibit mousepads, teeshirts, etc., is going to risk child porn publicity. A call to the press and the biggest donor would have solved the problem right away. And who paid Alicia and notKalinda--is bad Mom really going to pay the kid his back pay etc.?

Go away Mamie Gummer. Take Howard with you.

The new investigator is like Gary Cole's son (is Christine Baransky's character still married to him?). Although underpaid, he is allowed to freelance unlike the terms Lockhart offered. I predict the old investigator is going to work for Lockhart and cause all kinds of trouble for Alicia.

Ruth is too smart and experienced (that's why Peter wanted her over Eli, right?) to pull that "tell me what Eli's up to" ploy with someone whose allegiance she is not sure of. Not believable.

Alicia can be on the election board by agreeing to vote No on whatever the first vote is about. Is she going to be a scapegoat yet again or does she think she can turn the tables on the machine? Boring storyline either way imo.

Due to a DVR mishap, I didn't see the first 30 minutes fo the show. I really didn't feel like I missed anything though, so that says a lot about how far this show has fallen in my "must watch" list. I really wish Lockhart et al would have some cases, and we would see more courtroom, less Governor's office. Bored. bored. bored with politics. I have to watch all the political crap on the news, I don't want to watch it in make-believe too.

Amy Irving can be creepy. Pedophiles approached my child? How dare they? I'm the new Michaelangelo!  Nobody pointed out that she seemed mightily unconcerned with her son's safety in the name of her art. Ah well. I guess Brooke Shields has had the same issue (not with her mother as the photographer) with nude pics that were taken when she was 10-12, and she wants them out of museums. But no luck.

 

I like our new investigator. Kalinda was scary good but the new guy will be able to charm the pants off anyone, and unlike Kalinda, I don't think he'll be sleeping with every cop in town, nor with Cary. But man how I'd like to see that.

 

Howard has some grit to go along with his idiocy. Good for him.

 

Grace needs a salary.

So, I really really hated that I liked it, but I liked it.  Alicia is actually doing law cases.  If they continue the season in this way I'm a happy camper.  Supposedly Alicia hires the woman because she reminds her of Kalinda?  Is the character of Alicia really supposed to be that shallow and stupid?  Did she also hire the woman to show her daughter that she supposedly has better gut instincts than her too?  Because I wouldn't be surprised.

 

I had no real feelings for Jeffrey Dean Morgan before this episode, but I absolutely loved him here.  I loved the writing of the character and I loved the actor's portrayal.  Keep this up, please make Alicia's law cases at least 70% of the episode.

 

I couldn't F care less for Margo Martindale's character.  And the judge was too annoyingly quirky.   I actually used to love Mamie Gummer on this show so much, but doesn't it feel a lot lackluster than it used to?

Same here. That's why I don't like JDM.

 

Didn't say I liked him, Just that JDM reminds me of DD. His character on GA became quit overbearing.

I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan so I'm happy he's on this show. Obviously he's the new love interest (duh)  but I don't feel like Alicia deserves him.  

Seems as if Grace is more interested in JDM than Alicia (for now).

I thought that Howard Lyman (will always be Hesch to me) looked like he had not aged well and I discovered that Jerry Adler, who has been in many, many of my favorite shows is actually 86 years old. Amazing.

 

Can't wait to hear the back story on why JDM can afford to turn down $250,000 a year and take a chance on Alicia and associates.

I don't think he turned it down. When he returned to Alicia he said he'd accept but "not exclusive" which led me to believe he'd be working both sides of the fence.

The point of being a freelancer is having several clients and no exclusivity, so that when you lose a client, you can still earn a living with the others. Relying on one client only is actually counterproductive.

Actually, I think the museum would have loved it if Erik went to the press. It would have given the exhibit massive amounts of publicity, PLUS they'd get to cast themselves as First Amendment crusaders. Places like museums love to do that. Even if it got shut down eventually, they'd make far more money than they otherwise would.

 

As for Ruth being smart and experienced, the problem is we know nothing about her. We;ve been watching Eli for 6 years so the natural tendency is to root for him. Peter's been (essentially) the bad guy to Alicia for that long,. so the audience will cheer as she brings him down. The problem is with the narrative. Ruth needs to smart and talented for her battle with Eli to be interesting, but she also needs to lose big for the arc to be satisfying. Since those are mutually exclusive, it ties the show into knots. With a longstanding character (Louis Canning, Wendy Scott Carr) you can have it both ways, but not with a newbie.

I don't see that. Why would Howard care about Alicia. How would sabotaging her solo law practice hurt Lockhart/Agos/Whateverthefuck? Same with Eli. If he wants to hurt Peter as revenge, why would sandbagging Alicia's tiny career help him? If anything it would hurt him since he'd lose Alicia as an ally and make it more likely she'd give up her own life and interests that conflict with Peter's.

I laughed when Diane went to yell at Cary about the lunch with Howard and her coat totally blended-in with the art on his wall.

I read an article on eonline I think with JDM and he said all he knew about the character when he took the part is that he was a former attorney. Maybe he made a lot of $$ with that career? Still, turning down that much does seem odd but the feeling I got is that he does his job because he enjoys it, not because he needs it. Also, apparently the allure of working with Alicia was too great to turn down.

That said, I think he is super sexy and I really liked their chemistry. I am interested to see where it goes because clearly he'll be a love interest of some kind. I never wanted Alicia with anyone but Will however I think this could be fun. Does anyone know how many episodes he signed on for? This whole season or is he not going to be around that long?

A New York Times magazine article explored the issues years ago, and last spring the NYT published an essay by Mann discussing her perspective and how public perceptions affected her family.

I'm an Eli fan, but he's not enough to make me give fuck one about the campaign, the rehabilitation of the governor's wife, the intra-office machinations or the Board of Elections.  "Don't ask questions, just vote no."  Gaaaa.  Could it all BE more boring?

 

In spite of Jeffrey Dean Morgan hitting his "Surge" button for twinkly-eye charm, I really hated Alicia switching to simpering kitten mode a couple of times when they were being flirty.  And yes, the man better have large bank to reject $250 per.  Did he not find Diane sexy? 

 

Oddly enough, my favorite moment was Howard rising above his customary oblivion and giving Cary a rich smackdown.  Oops, well, that was fleeting.

 

Litigating one's right to display and distribute photographs of a nude eight-year old boy and an even younger girl?  In this day and age?

With a Mom like that who needs enemies?   Do you know any well-spoken educated Moms that would continue to display and sell nude photos of their children over their objections, no matter how old they were now?  For anyone that says yes, - would you let your adult children sell nude photos of you?

 

Again, not at all knowledgeable as to why I keep watching this show.

Thanks, caitmcg. I was completely unaware of Sally Mann and obviously she was the inspiration for a ripped from the headlines story. Maybe it's my Chicago perspective and perception of Chicago art galleries, where the exhibit takes place. (Interesting link, and also the articles it cites within the piece. Mann says she will stop publishing her daughter's nudity when she reaches puberty as if that's noble of her--why then? I get the sweet freedom of naked kids but not the publishing of their innocence to the world. But I digress.)

I am really loving Cush Jumbo's role on the show - she adds a simple (but much needed) spark of life and fun to the cast and courtroom scenes. And I will ask forgiveness and admit that I was wrong for doubting JDM's addition to the show, as much as it pains me to do so. Over the course of a few minutes total, I've gone from thinking the show was jumping (another?) shark to stanning the chemistry he and Alicia have together. Hopefully they use the connection with a much more satisfying storyline than what they gave us with Matthew Goode's character last season (I will never forgive them for wasting such charm and beauty! Never!). 

 

Mamie Gummer needs to get off my TV screen. I can't stand her schtick on the show - it got old after her second or third episode on the show, yet they continue to torture me with her sporadic appearances. Give us some new guest stars to fill in. And MORE law firm drama at Lockhart/Agos... is CBS serious with this nonsense? Of course Cary will find himself reunited with Alicia within the next few episodes (it can't be as easy as Howie simply giving the ultimatum and being written off with a nice bow tied around the package... or can it?).

 

Before I hit post, I suppose I should throw Grace a bone and say that she's not the worst and I haven't yelled at her/my screen once thus far this season, so yay! Oh, and in closing, ::obligatory Peter continues to be the worst/get off my screen comment::

We were never told. Presumably she was let go when Kalinda made her redundant in the post-Diane-jumping-ship reshuffling. I would imagine she's too expensive for Alicia anyway, but I assume real-life issues were at play.

Cary made a point to tell Alicia that they were looking for an investigator too, so Robin followed Kalinda out of dodge.  Or maybe Kalinda followed her.

 

So Grace is what?  Alicia's office manager?   Excuse me while my eyes roll to the back of my head.  At least when she use to rely on Zach's tech expertise it (sorta) made sense.  I guess I should just be relieved that Alicia isn't taking her to that bar...yet.

 

I feel like the show is desperately trolling now for Hillary to cameo on the show.   You can almost hear them beg " please please please."

Good question. My guess is that's there's been a huge feud between the actress and someone else on the show, but no one cares because it doesn't involve Saint Archie and Evil Julianna. ;-)

HATE Mamie Gummer's character/shtick. Think Peter trying to be veep is ridiculous -- between his and Alicia's scandals it would never happen.  On the fence about Cush Jumbo's character.  But I love JDM ! Interested to see where this goes.  Finally, I've always liked Cary and Alicia as friends/colleagues, so I wish he would jump ship at Lockhart Whatever and join Alicia.

While King’s admission that Weixler is seeking new acting opportunities is a pretty sure sign that the show does not plan to promote her to series-regular status in Season 7 — after Panjabi’s P.I. makes her planned exit — he sounded optimistic that viewers haven’t seen the last of her, either.

 

“Whenever or if Robyn can come out of that office she’s in that we never see, just like those decks on Star Trek that you never see, she’ll be right back in the thick of things,” he said. “We’re big fans. It all comes down to what Mark Saks, our casting director, can get/make happen.”

 

From her IMDb listings, it appears the auditions have paid off.

She is still sitting at a desk by a phone in that industrial office area they used to have just waiting for someone to call.

Because like always there are only two law firms in all of Chicago. Three I guess in the weeks they can get Michael J Fox.

Mrs. Torqy wonders why Grace dropped out of high school to be Alicia's "secretary." (And why Alicia allowed her to do so.)
