S02.E05: Clean Up Your Mess

Caroline F cracks me up the most. I'd like to think that she's genuinely spacey and not hiding a real nastiness. We shall see.

LOL -- I agree, but the true test is when the drama flares up.  It looks like she is going to be hanging out with Juliet, so its just a matter of time before Juliet pulls her into some of her craziness.

If Caroline F isn't on drugs (prescribed or otherwise), I'll eat my cursor. That therapy session was bizarre. The therapist sat there frozen, completely stymied and unable to react. Finally she managed to blurt out some random blandishment.

Exactly. I think the dynamics between all the women would be tolerable without Juliet being a presence. She's the one drama most seems to follow.

She reminds me of the Tasmanian Devil in the cartoons.  Things are fine and then her and her drama and her messiness whirl in and make everything a disaster.  And then she finds ways to blame everyone else, because nothing is ever Juliet's fault -- unless Caroline S. is mad at her, and than its still not her fault, its probably Marissa's fault, or Julie's fault.

Julie is a doormat. Why does everything have to be assigned a "medical condition"? What great mentoring did Caroline give her? Was it more than that 2 minutes of wisdom we saw that anyone who's had a lemonade stand could give?

Mentoring from someone whose business is about to go bankrupt. Priceless.

Julie is one batshit crazy hot mess. If anyone needs medication, it's her. I can't deal with her mood swings.

This made me guffaw. So true. And the twenty pounds of makeup doesn't hurt.

LOL -- I wonder if that was the picture that pushed her to the makeup counter.  Those teeth.....woof!

A competent lemonade stand owner would take the time to call their lemon supplier if they had been told they couldn't get lemons on the hottest day of the year when everyone wants lemonade.

Sophie wasn't always as put together as she is on the show:

http://www.gettyimag...-photo/93423742

I don't know what work she's had done, or if it is just hair and makeup, but she looks miles better now than she did back in 2009 when this was taken.

jaysus!  That is downright scary....somewhere an plastic surgeon is getting his wings.

Agree to disagree - but I like her better in the original pic.  There she looks like a regular gal with good/bad features like all normal people have.  Not a fan of all the plastic surgery face that's so popular these days.

LOL -- of course, mileage always varies.  :)

Although I think the beauty of her plastic surgery is that if I hadn't seen the before picture I would have never known she had it.  I might have assumed she had fillers, but not plastic surgery.

I took another look because something was bothering me about that pic.  She has one eye much more prominent (almost bulging) that the other.  She probably is disguising the asymettry better now with the use of dramatic make up. If you put a hand over the left side of her image you will see what I mean she looks much more like herself.   ETA  I actually know someone who had a botched eye job and her eye, before being corrected, looked like Sophie's right eye (left in photos), like it's being pulled down. Normally you don't see that much white of the eye under the Iris.  I think she may have had a lower eye lift and it went, as the Brits say,  "a bit wonky".

Yes, one eye is off. Also noticed her name in that picture was Sophie Mead-Briggs. Pre Mrs. Stanbury status.

I don't think she had plastic surgery - maybe fillers - and definitely heavier eye makeup now. Disguised the wonky eye well.

A boozy and loose Sophie,  with a sorta drunk perennially sarcastic and tightly wound, Caroline S., taking a smoke break from the birthday party, standing out in front of the restaurant with the cigs hanging out of their mouths...

.....there was something humorous and potentially Edwina & Patsy Ab Fab about the two of them (with less comedic charm).

If only Caroline would put her hair up in a French twist.

Sophie's eyes definitely look more tight and less baggy, but her jaw also looks more sculpted and filled out.  I'm not judging, I think she looks great now, although definitely groomed and coiffed within an inch or her life.  I guess if you've got the time and money, and it suits you, why not.

Caroline, however, should go with a more natural look, in my opinion.  Her lips are full, and the pink or neutral lipstick she wears gives her a Real Housewives of the OC/porn star/blow-up- doll look.

So far she seems spacey but cool.  I will reserve final judgment until I see her get into a fight or argument.  Thats when I really can see how people are.

Caroline F doesn't look like a yeller or screamer, so I don't see her getting into some fight with Juliet.  Er, and who else does anyone fight with here?  I think that's why they brought on Sophie.  Now that woman will absolutely get Juliet to throw some tantrums.  She already has.  The thing is, I don't get why this show's producers think Juliet's tantrums are entertaining.  They're so tiresome.

Sheesh, Caroline F's happy-happy persona/routine is really getting on my nerves.  Reminds me of lunatic Kelly saying she was "enjoying her life".  Oy.  Sorry, but nobody is that happy unless they're on something.  Not buying it.  Hmmm, from the previews, it looks like she's gonna turn into Sonja Morgan & start hungrily chasing after younger guys.  Might be into seeing that.  Ah, are they gonna turn this thing into NYC Housewives without Bethenny?  OK with me.  Bring it, show!

I wonder if the reason Juliette sucks up to Caroline so much can be found in Caroline's continual harping on how entrenched she is in British "SOCIETY" and telling us repeatedly how hard it is to break into it.  I believe in the first or second episode she snotted on how hard Marissa was trying to be part of society and "reeks of desperation.  In the episode where we met Danish Caroline, she snotted that Juliet was "barking up the wrong tree" when she was trying to strike up a friendship with her.  Juliet might be angry with Caroline's behavior and call her on it, but she'll be rushing to make amends as soon as possible.

I imagine Caroline has these women - Julilet and Marissa - totally believing that SHE is their ticket into society.  "I party with the royals.  I call them my friends." Annabelle knows the truth of it, of course, and would have no problem taking her down a peg.  Julie, for all that she has a title, I think really wants people to like her and is just a little too timid for her own good.  Honey, you have a title.  You are going to be the Countess of Sandwich one day.  Square those shoulders and hold that head high.

I thought this episode was kind of unexciting while I was watching it but then when it was over I thought it was an interesting episode as far as character development went for our little miss Earl of Sandwich, who has really been the star of the show for the past few episodes. Whereas Juliet, who seems very sad sack to me this season, doesn't seem to have much going on besides being sad and lonely and boringly argumentative.

Even though it seemed very sucking up-ish to give Caroline a present, I ended up liking the fact that Julie reconsidered Annabelle's advice to confront Caroline, and instead stayed true to her own comfort zone, and avoided the confrontation.  It might not make Caroline lay off of her in the future, or respect her, but it was nice to see her take the opposite approach.

That being said, OMG, she needs to do something with her hair. And for being so health obsessed, Julie looks the unhealthiest out of all the women.

I don't know what work she's had done, or if it is just hair and makeup, but she looks miles better now than she did back in 2009 when this was taken.

Sophie looks so different now that I feel I need to drag Dr. Terry Dubrow into the discussion and explain how she did it. Because it looks like more than weight loss and an updo and a smoky eye to me.

I'm not sure that Marissa believes Caroline is the entree.

But I think Juliet does.

Since the discussion is veering this way - do any of these women REALLY believe that any of the others are entrees into real British society?  I get that they all think that they are "the shit"  (as one says) but into what is really "British society"?  On guest lists for British bigwigs?  Hanging with the Middletons?  Invited to parties where Wills and Harry will be getting their dance on?  Seriously?  I get that apparently Caroline S. dated Prince Andrew, but at this point I'd think any of them would be lucky (as they perceive it) to get let into a party that Fergie had been barred from an hour ago.

Why is it so hard for Julie to understand that Juliet wants to be friends with the wealthy, affluent British types? Does she not know anything about her friend? Juliet would tie her up and eat her if it meant being good with the upper echelon.

Juliet irks me to no end. Her little rat eyes and sneaky ways are so obvious, I have no idea how she's gotten as far she has with these people, but I suspect that Caroline S probably keeps her around for comedic relief and punching bag capabilities. Way to aim high, Juliet.

I think that is exactly why Caroline S. kept her around -- comedic relief and a punching bag.  I would feel bad for anyone else, but Juliet annoys me so instead I'm amused.

Caroline F is very affected, as mentioned upthread, and phony. I am entertained by her but am noticing the sloooooooooow purposeful hugs and kisses. That reeks of fake to me.

I don't think Sofie looked so bad before. Am I missing something?

Caroline S- such a martyr in business. She keeps saying that she's "doing it all" but I've yet to see what she actually does.

"Happy birthday in Spanish"

She might have seen them at the club, but that's still far different than being in their social circle. And Caroline S is obviously pushing the "I dated Andrew", but is that really true, or was she just one of his conquests? Just found an article where she denied a relationship at all. Apparently Caroline S doesn't come from "landed gentry" on her mother's side.

How old is Caroline S?? There was an article claiming at 40 she dated a 24 year old Hugh Grant. When did she have these children?

Why is Sophie even on this show? I find her boring and haven't seen that she adds anything interesting to this show. I sincerely hope they are not giving her a test run.

At least Caprice and that other blonde woman Nicole are off of the show. I love the other ladies. Juliet is especially growing on me.

My suspicion is that Caroline's "building this business from the ground up" means she schmoozed rich acquaintances for investments and then created a posh office for herself to look busy in glamorous fashion.

Wasn't suggesting any thing other than I don't believe Marissa is striving for shit. She got Carolyn S by getting her to actually wear a Turkey's ass on her head (notice at Marissa' s actual dinner no one was wearing hats).

My point was Juliet seems to be the only one striving.

Caroline S. tries to get away with the notion (even though the next morning she unapologetizeed to Julie) that she instantly forgets not remembering she is the only one who is straight up a bitch with no reason. Of course she easily forgets because she is the problem in the room!

Man, did anyone catch the pained look on Caroline's mug when she had to deal with those little boys?  Yeah, she looks like a great mother.

Caroline dated Prince Andrew (ew) and Hugh Grant too?  Hmmm, sounds like she really got around.  Anyone know anything about this husband of hers?  I assume he's some really rich dude, from the looks of her closet & that fancy-looking joint she lives in.

So the ratings for this show really stink.  I doubt it's gonna be renewed for another season.  Maybe Juliet's tantrum-throwing & whining & little mouse eyes aren't bringing in the viewers.  Or is it the Brits sneering at Americans turning viewers off?  Well, that's mostly coming from the Stansbury monsters, but still.  Something on this show is missing.

I also maybe biased by Marissa' s resume before meeting her husband, Sonja Morgan and one of Tiger Woods mistresses aside, launchung high end hotels and restaurants do require actual publicists and you could see that side of her kicking in on the brief meeting we saw with the designer. She made decisions and it was a stark contrast to Julie and Caoriline S., none of them are solving the world's problems but Mariisa is getting stuff done.

I think Marissa does just fine in London without any "help" from these women. Her husband alone opens doors for her that remain shut for some of the other women. Some people find her fake, but I think that's just part of her personality in the business she's in. And even then I still find her more genuine than some of these other women.

Regarding who some of these women have dated, I find the term "dated" can be used very loosely. I worked and went to school in Manhattan during the late 90's/early 00's. I worked on Wall Street during the height of the TRL and WWE era. There were always lots of horny men around including celebrities, athletes, royalty, rich, wannabes. If you wanted to hook up with one, as long as you were attractive enough you could do it. But that's what it was-- a hookup. I was never naive enough to believe otherwise. However, some of the women I knew would like to boast about how they were dating this guy or how they dated that guy. Um no, you screwed him. Or maybe you even had dinner with him. And maybe you guys hooked up multiple times. But it was never "dating". Anyway, this is what I always think about when I hear some of these women on reality programs talk about whom they've "dated" in the past.

Yup, Marissa seems like a typical PR gal.  If you've ever seen or heard one of them, you've seen or heard them all.  Phony, phony, phony, phony & then some more phony.  Even when Marissa is telling the truth, which I have not seen evidence she ever is lying on this show, she still seems like the biggest, phoniest phony who ever phonied.  That's who Marissa is.  Personally, I can't stomach her.  But maybe that's just me.

So if "dating" translates to banging, would that mean Caroline actually had sex with Prince Andrew?  Ew!  Seriously, ew, ew, ew & more ew!  He looks so old & gross now & seems like such a sleazy pig.  And you're looking your nose down at us Americans, Caroline?  Um, no.  Having sex with Prince Andrew = giving up the right to sneer at anyone (American or ANY nationality), and that absolutely includes the useless, pathetic, whiny tantrum-throwing Juliet.

My understanding was that the show was never going to be brought back due to low ratings so I was happy and surprised to see that it was getting a season 2.  I hope it gets a third season...maybe they can put it back on in the summer with this new format so it doesn't have so much competition.  I feel like its light entertainment with all the drama and half of the thrown drinks on most fall reality TV shows that I watch.

I like seeing the beautiful city, and there are at least 2-3 villains to choose from.  Yeah, Marissa is a bit of a snooze, but I like that there is one woman on the show that actually is about her business and not just sort of shoulder shrugging as her business goes down the tubes.

How tight are we to believe the "Stanbury Sisters" actually are vs. how shrewd is Caroline S? Caroline doesn't seem attached to ANYbody, let alone the girl who was supposed to be a fling for her brother, but wound up becoming the wife. I bet the producers came along and told Caro her sister-in-law was becoming a part of the show, and she made a calculated decision to play nice, rather than pitch a fit a la Teresa Guidice. I guarantee if Caroline had any negative reaction to her SIL, Sophie would have been a full-time player on this show, and the "Stanbury Sisters'" feud would have been the front-and-center storyline for us to devour. By choosing to ally with Sophie, I think Caroline made a keen decision to avoid exposure to herself and her family. But are they the besties they play on TV? Methinks not.

I think Julie and Juliette were right to let it go and get over it. Especially Julie. I get you are super sensitive, I try to consider that with a few friends that are that way, but there is a point where I get exhausted walking on eggshells around some people. She can work on it too. It seems to me she wears the wrong makeup colors, she looks ill. I don't like snarking on a persons looks......I would like to see her in softer colors though.

I took it that Juliette was angry, discussed it with her friends, felt better about it and moved on. I did not see her as backing down, and don't blame her for wishing Julie didn't bring it up. The alternative with these ladies would be to keep bringing it up and rehashing it, who wants to be around that.
