ElectricBoogaloo August 31, 2015 Author Share August 31, 2015 (edited) Maybe instead of giving Bunchy the "how well do you really know this girl?" speech, Ray's time in the pre-wedding faux father role would have been better spent telling Bunchy that unless you are Michael Jackson, you do not wear white socks with black pants and black shoes. I cannot recall his storyline. Ray and his crew exposed how he was screwing his subordinate's wife. Holding the promise of a promotion over the guy's head. Resulting in him leaving the Bureau in disgrace. 2 Link to comment
Dobian September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 (edited) I thought it was kind of convenient that the Octopus Motel was within eyesight of the church Bunchy was getting married at. I really liked the episode, though. Good scenes with Ray and Bunchy, Ray and Mickey, Terry and Abby at the supermarket was hilarious. Of course they had to take a side trip to creepy town with Bridget and her teacher, but the rest was good. Edited September 7, 2015 by Dobian 4 Link to comment

dampfire September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 I thought it was kind of convenient that the Octopus Motel was within eyesight of the church Bunchy was getting married at. Thought the same thing at first. But it does end up making sense. Mickey's dressed up when Ray finds him. He tells Ray something like he had no intention of missing another one of his sons' weddings. Mickey holed up in that motel specifically because it was so close to the wedding site. 1 Link to comment
scrb September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 (edited) Well Theresa seems to be for real. So they'll probably kill her somehow, like maybe the Armenians taking revenge and she's caught in the crossfire. Because you can't have one of the Donovan bros end up happy. Bannon September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 There have been some really rough patches this season, but that was another exceptionally well written episode. It arrived right at the heart of what this show is about; Ray Donovan, who has enough difficulty managing his own demons, desperately trying to solve problems for other people, be they family or clients. Another great aspect is how they have started to give Abby more depth, and some redeeming features. It takes real devotion and love to become a primary caregiver for a brother in law who faces inevitable neurological devastation. We finally are given some insight as to how Ray fell in love with her. 7 Link to comment

chick binewski September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 I agree, Bannon. I've really liked Paula Malcomson's performance the past few episodes; it seems like her character is really blossoming now when she's given the opportunity to take care of people. The exceptions: steering Bridget towards her teacher & basically not knowing where Conor is or what he might be doing. However in defense of Abby I don't think any of us care what Conor is doing. Also, yay to no Paige. The casting of Katie Holmes seriously distracts me from the rest of the show. I watch her and wonder who she had dirt on in order to get the role. Putting her next to McShane does her no favors either. And on a superficial note, I thought Malcomson looked radiant in this ep, Theresa looked fab in her wedding dress, and (as always) Ray can really wear a suit. 5 Link to comment

I rewatched "Deadwood" this summer and was blown away again with Malcomson. If you write a character with complexity and nuance, she just nails it, which is why its been a little frustrating that Abby to date has been written without those qualties to such an extent. 1 Link to comment

I was thinking the same...I had such a feeling of dread when they were pulling away in the convertible, thinking oh please please show don't have someone come running out and shoot her. Another great aspect is how they have started to give Abby more depth, and some redeeming features. Again, please please show just let this be a genuine friendship and don't do something squirrelly like having Terry fall for Abby or something. And yeah, add another YAY to no Metal Mouth Holmes in this episode. 5 Link to comment
Mama No Life September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 Best episode of the season. Maybe of two seasons. No Skeletor, sweet Ray, happy Terry. Mickey a little less shitty than normal, Bunchy has apparently found someone to take care of him. Loved Lena calling Ray on his fuckedupitness. She still did what he said, but she called him on it. 1 Link to comment

Having had a love one go in a way Terry is going out, the scene where Terry wakes up in a terror, having soiled himself, with the gentle, loving, nature that Abby displayed, well, I found it quite affecting. Beautifully written and acted. 8 Link to comment

Bannon September 8, 2015 Share September 8, 2015 This reminds me of my favorite line... "He's got Parkinson's you fucking cunt!" I usually hate that word but it was pretty damn funny... I nearly spit my whisky with this scene, because of the memory it brought back for me. When my family member was going out, he and I were standing in line at fast food joint, waiting to place our order, with no tables open, and my relative refusing to wait in the car. He thus was keeping a hand on my arm to steady himself, and when he spoke he slurred a little. A woman behind us makes a crack about being drunk before noon. My relative turns around, unsteadily, and says, as clearly as he could, "I'm dying. You're a c*nt." I never use that word, and very rarely approve of its use, but I did that time. 10 Link to comment

I'm rooting for Terry to become the on-site father figure to Connor and Bridget need. It would give him a reason to be, as well as helping them. Bridget definitely has major daddy issues. Did you notice that Bunchy's speech and reasoning cleared up from time to time in this episode? There were points were he sounded completely normal. Improved confidence, maybe? If Teresa turns out to be after Bunchy's settlement money, I'll take a hit out on her, myself. I suspect, as someone mentioned above, that she's being lined up as a target for the Armenians. I have to say that I do sort of love Momma Armenian, holding court in that reception venue looking place. Link to comment
Joimiaroxeu September 8, 2015 Share September 8, 2015 Ray and his crew exposed how he was screwing his subordinate's wife. Holding the promise of a promotion over the guy's head. Resulting in him leaving the Bureau in disgrace. Plus he was forcing the guy to screw his relatively frumpy wife. Apparently that's how he got his wife to accept his sleeping with other (younger, hotter) women. I was puzzled by the former FBI guy's reaction too. Was he expressing ironic glee that he was suddenly able to exact revenge on Ray, or was he terrified of possibly having Ray come after him again? Whichever, the guy looks to be in bad shape. It's quite a fall to go from all but congressionally confirmed as the next FBI director to underemployed as an NFL credit check clerk. Link to comment
cattykit September 8, 2015 Share September 8, 2015 She nailed the South Boston attitude and accent with that line. My mother was from Southie and while she never used the word cunt, she used every other word in the vernacular, was proud of being a bitch, and would have fit perfectly in that scene. This was one of the better eps all the way around. Except for the spawn and her teacher. It reminded me too much of a similar arc in Big Love. I'm just FFing right past them. 1 Link to comment

missy jo September 10, 2015 Share September 10, 2015 I feel like they've done a huge retcon on Theresa's character in the past few episodes. She's gone from a dominatrix forcing Bunchy to scrub the shower with a toothbrush to a blushing bride. Huh? 1 Link to comment

Former Nun September 14, 2015 Share September 14, 2015 Except for the spawn and her teacher. I'm an average-looking person. I don't know why I have a negative feeling about that actress's looks--she's just a teen. Her general look and her facial expressions bother me. I wouldn't have cast her...or her "brother." 1 Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo September 15, 2015 Author Share September 15, 2015 So happy that Bunchy was able to get married without anyone dying. I was nervous during the entire episode that there was going to be major violence at the reception. I must watch too many movies because I expected one of the Armenians to sneak in dressed as a waiter and start shooting the place up. I agree that Teresa is being set up as the sacrificial lamb who will be kiled (either accidentally caught in the crossfire or intentionally murdered to send a message, but either way I don't expect her to live past the season finale). I keep having flashbacks of Dylan's new bride Toni being assassinated in his car on 90210. Ha, but I LOVE that Teresa knew Bunchy would end up wearing white socks so she had an extra pair of dark socks for him. No one should be sporting that white socks with black shoes look at their wedding. I loved the scenes with Abby and Terry too; both their faces were so lit up and happy. Again, please please show just let this be a genuine friendship and don't do something squirrelly like having Terry fall for Abby or something. ITA - I love that we are getting to see both Abby and Terry do something besides the usual. Their friendship is lovely and believable, and I want it to stay that way. I don't want either of them to develop amy romantic feelings for each other (plus imagine all the man pain we would have to see from Ray if that happened - I can already imagine the fights he would have with each of them about it). Abby and Terry finally seem much more human and real instead of cliched and one note, so I hope they continue this arc with their platonic friendship. I continue not to give a shit about Bridget and her teacher. They could cut all those scenes and not affect the show at all. I loved when Terry reminded Ray that they couldn't take communion because that other priest ex-communicated them and Ray had absolutely no fucks to give. "It's a fucking cracker." HA! 2 Link to comment

Her general look and her facial expressions bother me. I wouldn't have cast her...or her "brother." I'm an even more terrible person since I thought the actress was ugly as a little kid on Brothers and Sisters and wondered why they cast her back then. Although I think she actually grew up better looking and sort of looks like Rory Gilmore when she keeps her mouth closed which is unfortunately not too often. What happened to the Aryan revenge plot? 1 Link to comment
