S06.E10: Sister Sister

Recommended Posts

I knew as soon as the dog refused the food and started barking as the owner ate it that it was poisoned, and I knew as soon as I saw the placement of the bite marks Duke had tried to pull the owner out of the pool.

I also knew one of the fellow show dog loons would be implicated, but a red herring.  That the one daughter would have been the one who wanted to kill the dog out of jealousy over Duke.

When all this played out halfway, I figured it was the other daughter, but decided that was too obvious – even for this show – and would leave Duke alone.  So I went back to the neighbor, because there was no way we’d just see her for such a short time.

Zero mystery in this episode, except why the new guy kissed Maura, which I knew was not for the usual reason but wasn’t sure why.

Why did Jane leave her boots on when trying on the dress?  Wouldn’t she have taken them off to take her pants off?

Neighbor wanted the money from selling her house. House wouldn't sell unless all houses sold, including the victim's house. Victim didn't want to sell.

Neighbor knew daughter planned on killing the mother, so neighbor decided to do a better job of killing mother, and figured blame would fall on daughter.

The mystery was elementary (but NOT Elementary).

I like your theory, TeapotDiva.

Angela seemed more annoying than ever to me. I'm not sure how grown people who are not your kids would succumb to that manipulative BS. Frankly, if a friend revealed anything I'd asked them not to, that friendship would be on thin ice if that happened.

Jane left her boots and socks on in a throwback to "Don't Hate the Player" (season 2, episode 5) in which Jane and Maura trade clothes. Or so this shipper thinks.  http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mf5a9flco61ralk4y.jpg

One more episode next week.  TeapotDiva, you may be on to something with your theory about which Rizzoli might be the love interest.

Actually, there are two more episodes in this summer "season."

For all that R&I brags it has a former BPD homicide detective on staff, the show is rife with errors.  A detective who accesses criminal records for personal purposes (like Jane's blackmailing the condo board) would be fired.

How did the murderous neighbor obtain medical grade strychnine?  If the daughters argued loudly in the back yard, why didn't their mother hear their murderous intentions toward the dog?

I have to ask the question that’s on all of our minds. Were you and the cast aware of Susie’s death going into the sixth season or did it come as a surprise later on?

“I actually did. Jan and everybody at TNT handled it so professionally. I knew pretty early on but of course I didn’t want to spoil it for the fans and that was a really difficult secret to keep under wraps. The Susie character is such a fun lovable character that Jan Nash (the show runner) is very, very sensitive about. She called me and we were all really upset to see this character go. At the same time I think the story opens the world up to interesting story lines for the other characters to go through that grieving process. I knew pretty early on. The writers and directors of the episode called me and we all spoke privately.”  http://talknerdywithus.com/2015/07/21/exclusive-interview-with-tina-huang/

So far we haven't seen any grieving (except for that bizarre dance party.  We haven't even heard Susie's name.  As for Kent Drake, there seems to be no reason for him to be on the show except to annoy Maura.  I hope there's more to him than that.  And I hope they mention Susie, once in a while.

On a shallow note, I'll admit that my blood pressure went up a few notches when Maura locked her office door--shuttered the window and advanced toward Kent saying "You started something...and I'm going to finish it."  I have been told that there are fantasy porn sites that begin a scene with that same setup.

Hmm, which detective is Kent interested in?  I agree that it's a Rizzoli ~ but not Jane.

Yeah, I automatically assumed it was Frankie.  I'm not entirely sure why, but that was my immediate reaction.

Mine too! Even though I knew there was no chance it was going in a truly sexy direction, I had that same 'ooh...' reaction. I watch too much TV.

I think Kent's purpose is to show Maura's role in the lab and as a boss. She has had several interactions with him, including the one in her office this ep, that we've never seen anything else like from her. She was a pro with him through the entire kiss situation and resolution. I even liked the resolution from the kiss. The awkwardness was cleared, she was upfront with the rules and her position, and he went back to messing with her again which may irritate her, but obviously does not offend her. I'm not sure how seriously I take his remark about dating within the police department. That might be because in the back of my mind I still kind of ship Kent/Maura if it didn't mean we would have to lose boss!Maura which I adore. But while I think he might possibly have his eye on a cop, I think he was mainly trolling her about her relationship with Jane, and was just generally messing with her to get things back into his comfort zone.

I also really liked how she dismissed his behavior to Jane as him just being weird. What really happened was, and should be, between him and his boss. There are things that cross the line, even between best friends. I was sad when Jane said she couldn't decorate her apartment too. Jane owns so many identical t-shirts that she had no sadness over the loss of her wardrobe. Let Maura help Jane!!

In other news, they are just trolling us now with Nina and Frankie. The case sucked but I liked seeing dog lover Korsak. As for the condo, I enjoyed Jane being SO prepared. The condo may be awesome but they people sound horrible though. I did like that Jane didn't even ask how much the couture dress wore. Maybe she's learned that all the answer will do is stress her.

But Maura would get carried away, and she'd decorate it in her style, not Jane's.  While, yes, Maura's style is more, well, stylish than Jane's, she needs to save it for her own home.

When Korshak was arguing on the phone with animal control about keeping the dog alive, I had a flashback to the old episode of 'Bones' where Tempe wanted to adopt the dog that had been wrongly accused of killing someone, but she found out (after she bought a collar and leash) that it had been euthanized because it was considered to be a vicious animal, although not a killer.  I was afraid that he would want to adopt Duke and then find out that it had been put to sleep.  I'm glad Duke had a happy ending.  I was also pleased that they didn't go with the usual 'cop adopts now-orphaned dog' (and we don't usually see the dog ever again).

I can't believe that no one has commented that everything Korshak told Jane about handling Duke for the show ring was worng. That really pulled me out of the episode.

Angela needs to back the hell out of her kids' business. They're handling their living situation just fine.

Ok I guess I read the scene between Maura & Kent at the end all wrong. And maybe I have my shipper glasses on but I immediately thought Kent was interested in Nina, and his attention to her would reveal her relationship with Frankie.

Wow, I really do have them damn glasses on, I instantly made it about my couple lol!

I figured it was because he didn't want to have to tell the parents their daughter's cause of death, but the mystery for me was why he was so troubled about it. I mean, I figure it's got to be one of the hardest parts of the job, dealing with grieving family members, but I figured he had to have some special reason for hiding from the task for so long.

I like that Maura went with him to the parents' house and helped him work through it. And I'm glad that he's not actually interested in her romantically - I just don't see them as a good fit. If he were interested in Jane, however, that might be pretty comical. Especially since she seems to find him so weird. LOL.

I was fine with Jane's wearing the va-voom dress for her condo interview, but she should have changed into her cop clothes after.   Oh for the days of season one, when Detective Crowe would have catcalled her with something like this: "Hey, Rizzoli, you undercover as a call girl?"  As Jane Rizzoli replied then, "How is it you are still single?"

I have now seen Kent's name shipped with nearly everyone on R&I. Except Angela.  OMG, they might even do that as silly as the show is at times.  Speaking of  silly, TNT's R&I Facebook page has many negative comments regarding the dog show and rabies testing. Almost every week, I wonder if they have Google in the writers' room.

Just one nitpick.  The neighbor knew the daughter planned to harm the dog.  Neither daughter wanted to hurt the Mom.  Neighbor just decided to off the Mom and make it look like the daughter who intended to harm the dog did it.

Kent's good qualities Jane mentioned he had all his teeth

While it's possible I'm misremembering, I seem to recall a long ago bantering session between the two about men without all their teeth.  I think the line was a throw back to that.

Here's a screen shot of the image of phone (link to page) and i think it's a younger him with what looks like a tortoise behind him? (some say) Or perhaps it's something interesting that I don't see (it COULD be a rock formation? I dunno) and it was an interesting trip or something that he is fond of seeing.

Oh, as for why I think Maura was seemingly disturbed by the picture/phone is because it was on her, the Chief ME's desk, not on a workstation. Meaning he was in her office, sitting at her desk doing something.

As for the PD questions, he may have been messing with Maura again but I think he might be interested in Jane.

Jane burned a brand new couch? At least she could have put it on the curb for a lucky young college grad with too much debt to buy a couch.

Unless they were threatened/manipulated by my boss. Then you have to forgive.

She was unbearable once again. Anyone living together would have disagreements once in a while. They weren't even at each other's throats so why was she trying so hard? (I know, she's the worst.)  Nina's insistence that she "fixed" the problem made me gag.

Thanks for that! I'd never seen a clear picture of it. That is definitely him in the picture. I have a picture of my brother and I on my lock screen. It's an important picture to me. Considering how young he is in that picture, that's the most reasonable explanation to me. Whatever it is, that place and being there was important enough for him to want to see it all the time. Home perhaps? Regardless, I've never thought Maura looked particularly disturbed in that scene. Certainly not like she was when she realized Pike had been in there. I think she was just surprised, both at the picture and the presence of the phone, and very ready to be done with that day.

I hope he's not secretly interested in Jane. While her inexplicable hatred of him annoys me, I like watching him messing with her. And I like seeing it as just two people who don't mesh so enjoyment for me ensues. I'm going to put my hands over my ears and stick with my theory that he was just trolling Maura to get back to their normal dynamic. The mystery man is obviously his preferred mode and that comment definitely diverted Maura's attention away from what was actually going on.

I thought surely to God she didn't actually burn it but she obviously doesn't have it. We haven't seen it and she doesn't have anywhere to stash it that Maura wouldn't know about. So maybe she just flagged down some broke, rookie cop and sold it off cheap? Which is still crappy but to be fair, she very clearly stated that she didn't want it. Maura can get over it.

Normally I am all for understanding boundaries and keeping your mouth shut but Frankie brought Nina into that situation. He knows his mother. He knows Nina was uncomfortable having to lie to her. No one should be expected to survive an Angela inquisition and guilt trip without giving up anything in the pursuit of peace. Especially since Nina is clearly trying to stay in good graces so she can jump Frankie as soon as possible. Recognize Frankie!

Okay. That makes more sense. Especially since I don't think she could have easily burned a couch, especially in a big city.

I assume the "I burned it" was just to tease Maura.

She probably just left it there on the curb for the taking, but whatever she did with it, I highly doubt it was burning a brand new couch that someone who actually had a home (or storage space) could use -- especially as a police detective in a city where I assume it's illegal to have a furniture bonfire on the streets.

Jane has always taken an immediate and intense dislike to men who are interested in Maura.  When Jack was around, Jane hid her jealousy under a layer of fake approval.  She could tell he was boring and monotonous and Maura would tire of him, even if he didn't move away.  I'm hoping Jan Nash has the courage to make Kent a gay man.  Since she took over R&I the show is so "no homo" that it's pathetic. Nash is a coward.

The couch?  Jane was being her sarcastic self.  It's safe in a storage locker.  As for Angela, just once I want someone to stand up to her and say "no."  But I doubt it will happen.  Now that Jane Rizzoli is wearing dresses, the characters are all turning into mush.

Me too, except I don't think it would be satisfying because Angela would be so "crushed." Maybe it would be better to have someone con/brainwash Angela into believing she doesn't need to be in everybody's business.

...Now that Jane Rizzoli is wearing dresses...

Was that yellow dress supposed to be hideous on her because it was Maura's and they aren't the same size? It looked so uncomfortable across the chest.

I don't know about hideous. I do remember thinking that if it was supposed to be Maura's dress, the hem length was all wrong - putting Maura's petite sized clothes on that Amazon body would have made it a mini skirt. Speaking as a petite sized woman who has to hem every dress so they don't hang to my ankles.

SuperAngelaInterrogationSkillz - even Nina the badass of last week caved - Angela's kids finally manage to keep something to themselves so Angela goes behind their backs and pushes a work colleague - *sigh* just STFU already Angela and MYOB!
