Why did Paige have to give him a big smile like that?  She looked like a five year old girl who was proud of the picture she drew of daddy.  It seemed like the whole braces thing totally turned Ray off when she kissed him.

Poor Bunchy, he can never catch a break.

The running joke of the show seems to be that wherever Abby goes, everyone's opinion of her is, "you suck".

Way to bring up your teacher's dead wife, Gidget.

I need to watch that geek.com party scene again, I got lost on why Mickey was suddenly losing money because it went on too long or whatever.  Now Conor is being subtly threatened by Pruneface.  I guess she doesn't know that his dad isn't quite the doofus that his granddad is.

Lena!

Loved Abby's sister pointing out staying in a bad marriage isn't making a marriage work/something to get credit for. She seems reasonable. No wonder they don't get along.

As my icon may prove, I adore dogs... so Ray and the dog laying on the couch at the end was adorable for a second (and Ray tossing him food in the beginning.) Then it was ruined when the dog ran to Abby... and finding out he still doesn't have a damn name.

"Lock the door!" is probably the only sound advice Mickey has ever given.

I've been finding Paige's husband especially creepy and last night it finally hit me why, he's the creep in Changling! The close up on his face when he asked Ray if he got the phone made it click, that sneer.

Poor Bunchy. I wonder if they're going for some kind of breakdown/PTSD from prison, story with Terry? I mean I know it's an on going thing that Terry and Ray feel they really need to protect Bunchy, but Terry seemed to snap awfully fast.

Daryl brought them more coke, without actually telling the guys they had used up what they paid for and therefore the extra, was in fact extra. So obviously, the guy would claim he wasn't paying since he told them $15grand, and never said he'd spend more, Daryl stupidly assumed extra was fine to keep it going, never checking he'd be willing to pay.

Yessssss to more Lena (now bring back Avi!).  Noooooo to Katie Holmes.

I love Grace Zabriskie, even when she plays evil.  Or maybe especially when she plays evil.

Darryl's obviously been swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool.  He's got Mickey's stupidity with none of his cunning.  His mother (will we ever see her again?) would be so proud.

Best part of the episode for me?

Abby visits her father after not seeing him in years.

Abby walks into her father's hospice room.

Abby's dad: (without looking away from the TV) you look like your mother.

Abby: (smiles) I know.

Abby's dad: Hard on the eyes.

LOL. Even Abby's own father has nothing nice to say to her.

Agree that John Voight is really the star of this show. I was never much of a fan before this but he's truly compelling here  -- even though his character is repulsive you can't take your eyes off him, he totally embodies all the slimy, evil, self-centred, selfish, ruthless, scheming-but-stupid attributes of Mickey ... far beyond what is actually written for him.

Looks like all the prep-work for Connor's long, slow stumble into sexuality is FINALLY going somewhere. We've had all the quick glances, side looks, hints, appearances of all the gay/TV hints. And NOW!!! -- the surprising encounter with he hooker at the geek party! Surely it's now time for Connor to be caught inflagrante delicto with another boy -- or at least some gay porn. We've never seen him with girly mags or websites, his computer screens have always been hidden, the trans-woman Chloe and gayish film star have come back and Ray has defended them to the studio. So NOW Ray will be faced with 'a queer in his own family' -- will he be a hypocrite or do the decent thing -- because we all know that deep inside Ray IS a decent guy!

Abby has just been back home and been very supportive of her niece in her private/sex life so will she be the same with her own son's sex life? A reason to know that something is going on for Connor and for Bridget's liaison-to-be with the teacher. 'Ken Cosgrove' wouldn't be in the part if it was just a two/three episode 'arc' that don't arc!

Another reason why Connor (the actor's name escapes me -- ooops!) is older than he says he is. If he's going to be seen in any sort of clinch with another guy the Producers will want to make sure that he's over 18 AT LEAST. Also, he has quite a thick beard shadow for a kid who's supposed to be only 17 in real life.

What niece? Was that a character or subplot from this season or a previous one? I have watched every single episode of this strangely compelling but totally frustrating show, and the way characters and plot lines come & go, sometimes, ugh.

SO glad the dog has returned though! Love the dog, and the scene of him cuddled up with Ray on the couch watching TV. Is that an American Bulldog? And yeah, give him a better name than "Dog." You were able to do better than "Girl" and "Boy" for your kids.

Abby's dad: Hard on the eyes.

I thought what her dad said was "hard _in_ the eyes."

Which is also cruel but IMO more accurate and therefore perhaps even more cutting. Say what you will about Abby and/or Paula Malcomson (and I have more sympathy for the character than most), she's got beautiful skin & bone structure. But her deal with the Devil (and Ray) *has* made her pretty hard. I hope she follows through for her siblings and buys the bar in their names though. Surely Ray could use another washing machine for his ill gotten cash.

The girl who was supposed to write her paper and then went drinking with Abby instead last week is her niece. They talked about her cheating boyfriend (the niece asked Abby not to tell her mom) and Abby encouraged her to call him and tell him off about his whores.

I heard "hard on the eyes" which I thought was hilarious since posters on another RD forum which shall not be named are always ragging on her looks. I could be wrong though.

Yes, Abby's dad said, "Hard in the eyes" meaning she looked hard/old/mean.

Seeing Ray with that dog was the best.

Lena was perfect (as usual) when she got caught by that slime ball professor.

I think it's cool how Abby can bitch, piss and moan about Ray but she sure does not mind the money.  So much so that she will use his money to buy the bar.  And, her family will rag on her and Ray but they will lap up the cash, too.

Dakota - Yes, Katie Holmes wanted the phone for herself.  It was not her phone.  It was a burner phone that the governor used for his "private" phone calls.  It ended up having the college student's messages (2) and one message from Katie Holmes and her message proves the she was banging the governor, too.  The governor was banging the college student and Ian McShane's daughter and you can bet Ian McShane wanted that leverage.

That's why I do not see incest.  I see a business man wanting leverage over his spoiled daughter and her power hungry wimp of a husband.

Poor Bunchy.  That dumb shit is going to blow the dead priest thing to high heaven and he has no clue.

Poor Terry.  There is no telling what he will do.  He is in very bad shape all the way around.  He is a ticking bomb.

I agree about Jon Voight.  He has always been one of my favorite actors.  One of his best roles is in Runaway Train.  He makes this show.

That's why I don't see incest.  Ian McShane has leverage against his daughter

I was so glad Ray immediately bonded with the dog. They do need to name that puppy, darn it. And it was great to have Lena back in the mix. I always wish the show gave her more to do! And I still miss Avi.

As far as Mickey, his scenes are so repugnant to me I find the character very difficult to watch. I can barely get through his scenes because I already know how it's going to go -- the way it always goes with Mickey. He'll think up a scam, he'll screw it up exponentially at every step, and eventually he'll lose everything. Again. And get other people killed. Again. And in this case Darryl will be lucky if all he loses is his car. (sigh) I will say that Jon Voight is superb in the role, but I just loathe Mickey. Everything he touches turns to shit.

I'm not sold on Katie Holmes's role in the story yet, but I found her big joyful smile (braces and all) at Ray sort of oddly touching at the end. She looked like a little kid, and to me that seemed to sort of charm Ray as well. It was a rare moment of vulnerability for Paige, who is usually so cold.

Chunky Chica will probably be back to scam Bunchy out of his church settlement one way or another.

I think the wrestler girl is gorgeous, and to me she just looks strong and healthy. I thought it was cool that the show cast a girl without the usual super-thin ingenue body type (which wouldn't work for the role anyway).
