I have to wonder if Arrow's Mia is a mere coincidence.  Like which came first, his plan for a child's name or Beth or someone naming Olicity's daughter?  Just as likely that they both happened separately but it's interesting to wonder about.

I wondered. I assumed Mia was named for a Mia Dearden nod. It might have been a bit too early with writing/filming/birth to have named the character after the real cutey but it could have been the other way around, that they realized they loved the name when discussing bringing on the character. That might even have been since they knew WH was leaving and they might need Emiko and/or Mia to fill the gap. Or could just be a complete coincidence, it is a popular name. It would be interesting to know though.

We know Berlanti planned their wedding long in advance, did he have secret list of his favourite baby names for their kid and happily got his own bundle of joy at the same time? 😜

SA did an Instagram Live video and said he was supposed to be at this morning’s CW upfronts but he went to bed on Sunday night and his body “tapped out” for days so he wasn’t able to make it. He also apologized for missing some Code 8 premieres and promised to make it up to people (I’m not sure how but those tickets were $300 so I hope for the audience’s sake they do something cool). He also vented about Heroes & Villians and wow, that split does not sound amicable.

^^^ Here's SA live instagram video from yesterday...

(Instagram English Live Channel)

-- SA: "First of all, just a few apologies. For the first time in as long as I can remember, or actually since basically the end of Season 1 of Arrow, um, my body tapped out. I was, um - I was in Walla Walla after a very, very lovely weekend and Sunday night rolled around and, uh, I went up to bed and didn't really get out of bed until yesterday afternoon, which is a crazy thing that's never happened to me before. I'm okay. I didn't have a mental episode or not depressed - not that there's anything wrong with that. I didn't have a panic attack. I simply couldn't get out of bed. My body tapped out. I was exhausted. And so, before we get going here, I just want to apologize to everyone who was in Dallas on Tuesday evening. I know you got a note about the Code 8 premiere, uh, but we will make that up to you guys. I know it wasn't one of our biggest premieres, but that is neither here nor there. Uh, I had every intention of being there. I even attempted to reschedule my flight out of Walla Walla for Tuesday morning and, um, it just didn't happen. And I had to listen to myself on this one. So I'm really, really sorry. We will make it up to you guys, uh, I promise. To anyone who was in Miami yesterday evening, uh, I know that we got a note about that. I understand that a few people were there. And again we will make it up to you guys and I apologize for that. But once again, I take sole responsibility, but I - my body tapped out. Um, apologies to everyone at The CW, but specifically to Mark Pedowitz. I was supposed to be at the Upfronts this morning and again, um, I just couldn't make it. You need to know when you can't make it in situations like these. Um, I will be making it to Orlando this weekend and I will be fulfilling all my obligations at MegaCon and I'm very excited about that and to get out and see everybody, now that I've had the better part of the week to recharge and even still have tonight and tomorrow and all that good stuff. But, uh, I missed my CW family today. I was really pumped to see the trailer for Batwoman. I'm excited that we're going to be on after The Flash on Tuesday evenings because I feel that's a pairing that I always wanted to have. And I'm excited for the last season of Arrow, which I haven't really started thinking about yet. Speaking of which, I hope everybody enjoyed, or at least attempted to enjoy, our season finale. I, um - I'm excited to hear what's in store for Season 8 and - yeah. Moving on to what's happening in the future. There's been a lot of conjecture as to why I'm not going to Heroes & Villains FanFest on this - well, I guess, this coming Saturday and Sunday in London. I'm - I'm not going to get into it, other than to say, over the course of time, being at conventions, I've probably met 60,000 people, give or take. I just pulled that number out of a hat. If you told me there was 120, I wouldn't be surprised. If you told me it was 50, that would be as low as I would go. But, suffice it to say, um, I have always attempted to treat everyone with, um - with respect and consideration. And I feel like if I have had 60,000 interactions, probably 59,940 have been positive - or at least, in my mind, they've been positive and I tried to make them so. I operated and allowed myself to be announced for Heroes & Villains and then planned the premieres of Code 8 and our F**k Cancer party based on my appearance there. Um, I allowed myself to be announced in good faith and I wasn't treated in good faith. I'm very, very sorry that they had to postpone their event. Um, but I decided to go do another event that weekend because I was always going to be there in the first place and because it is my hope that as many people as possible who had hoped to come out and meet me are able to transfer their tickets. Um, we're going to look into the event as to be doing something additional for people that weren't able to do that, whether it be an additional Q&A, an additional something, I don't know, but it pisses me off to no end that there are people who had good faith because I had good faith that are being punished for it. I think it's unfortunate. I think it's unseemly. And I'd go so far as to say that it's f**king reprehensible. But I'll tell you what it isn't. It's not my fault. And I'm the type - if I need to take a portion of the blame, I will. So if I'm going to take 5% of the blame here, I'm going to take it, because I operated in good faith and I put my trust in someone when maybe, an entity - not someone, something - when maybe I shouldn't have. Um, so that's my mistake on that one. But, um, I operated in good faith. I operated in good faith at additional cons when I didn't have to and I wasn't treated with the same amount of mutual respect. That's unfortunate, but it is what it is. So I want everyone to be aware that this Thursday, we will be doing our Code 8 premieres. This Friday, we will be doing our F**k Cancer party. This Saturday and Sunday, I will be at MCM. Any obligations that you see on my Facebook page, it is not my intention ever, ever, to cancel things. It pisses me off to no end. It bums me out to no end. It probably kept me in bed an additional day because I was bummed out. But again, when you're tired, you have to listen to your body. And, um, I was tired and I was beat up and I was worried that I was going to get sick and I have obligations as a father and a husband that extend well beyond my professional obligations, which I had to, um, put on hold for this week. So, there we are. That's the story. That's all you need to hear. I'm excited to see people this weekend in Orlando. I'm excited to see people next Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday in London. And if I mixed up the days of the Code 8 premiere and the F**k Cancer party, I'm really sorry, but I'm almost positive that it's Thursday Code 8 and Friday F**k Cancer. I don't think there are tickets available for Code 8, uh, but there are tickets available for the F Cancer party. And, uh, I'll make sure there's a brand new link to my Facebook page, so you guys can go check it out because, you know, we still have face - face, space available. As you see, I haven't spoken much at all, let alone in public, for the past several weeks. But, thank you guys for your patience. I'm sorry if there was any inconvenience. And, uh, I'm sorry if you were injured over my cancellation for Heroes & Villains FanFest this coming weekend in London. And I'm doubly sorry that they postponed the event and, um, maybe didn't word it and the reason for the cancellation as well as they could have. Okay, that's it for me and I hope to be a little more active, um, but I'm excited to see everybody this weekend. All the best, guys. Thank you."

From the way SA spoke about the Fan Fest in London I get the impression they knew they they were going to have to cancel long before SA announced he would be at the other con but then used the other con as an excuse to shift blame.

But also, wow, how badly was Amell burning the candle at both ends if he basically slept for three days?  And how does one let it get that bad?  He still looks kind of rough in the video.  (Thought the non shaved head helps to distract from his tiredness a lot.  NOW he lets it grow out, sigh.)

Reflecting on it, it looks like he kept it that short the whole time to refilm that scene with Oliver and the Moniter in 722, so not entirely SA's fault 😅

Transcription of what SA said in the above video clip tweeted by Starry Mag about his fave scene to shoot with EBR:

-- SA: "... Because it was, um, 12 hours, and it was just her and I on set, and it was a - it was a Friday until a Saturday morning. And we were either chilling in the limo, or I was laughing at her as she gets blood applied to her, or I'm like, you know, figuring out a way to, like, go through the partition to, like, slide into the front seat and drive away. It wasn't a fun scene, but it was a fun scene to shoot. You know, we got to hang out, so I can't actually think of another day where - actually, I know I can - where just all day, it was just her and me."

I can, 5-20 lol.  And I know it cause he's mentioned it was just the two of them for most of it in that episode.  How soon they forget.  (Though maybe it's purposeful ignorance since hanging in a limo is less loaded than the episode that had bunker sex)

I was thinking the same thing then wondered if it also has to do with the set. The two of them chilling in a limo vs the bunker set.

Videos of portions of SA panel at MegaCon Orlando yesterday...

SA talked about EBR in response to two fan questions:

(Máfia Olicity)

-- Fan: "My question is, who is your best friend on the set?" SA: "My best friend on the set?" Fan: "Yeah." SA: "Now?" (Audience laughs) Fan: "Yeah." SA: "Probably Emily." (Audience cheers and claps) Fan: "Thanks." SA: "You're welcome."

-- When asked about his favorite scene that he got to do with EBR, SA: "You know when she got shot in the limo? That scene. (Audience laughs) I'll tell you why. It's not a joke. I enjoyed doing that scene with Emily because it was, um, 12 hours, and it was just her and I on set, and it was a - it was a Friday until a Saturday morning. And we were either chilling in the limo, or I was laughing at her as she gets blood applied to her, or I'm like, you know, figuring out a way to, like, go through the partition to, like, slide into the front seat and drive away. You know, we got to hang out, so I can't actually think of another day where - actually, I know I can - where just all day, it was just her and me. Right? One scene. One thing to get. We had to get the beginning of it. We had to get the happy parts. We had to get the sad parts. We had to get the 'she might be dead' parts. Um, and just all in all, it was just a really fun day."

SA talked about how a crew member got the nickname "DDubs":

Video of SA's Q&A panel session at MegaCon Orlando (I only transcribed some of his comments)...

Stephan Amell MegaCon Orlando 2019 Q&A
Published on May 19, 2019, by The One

-- On what was his hardest stunt on Arrow, SA: "Well, at the top of the second season, I swing down off of this tree to rescue Felicity off of a land mine. And, um, they wanted to have a stunt person do that. I said, 'I don't think so.' And I went up there and - once I got up there and I got perched up there, I realized that I had made a terrible mistake. But I couldn't let anyone know that I had made a terrible mistake and I had to do it. And - the stunt in and of itself wasn't that difficult, but they let me swing down. But then they overreacted and they hit the - this break they had on the line. Just let me swing, guys, just let me swing. The hard part is over. And when they hit the break, the line hit me in my - under my left bicep or my right bicep. And then I went to Comic-Con the next day. So if you see photos of me from, I think, my second Comic-Con that I was at, it looks like - it looks like the Night King had ripped my bicep. And it looks very strange. That one was very tough."

-- On who he would pick if he had to be handcuffed to any other Arrowverse actor for 48 hours, SA: "Do I have to answer this now? Um. Oh my God. Uh. Colin Salmon. He played Walter Steele in Season 1 and Season 2. Because everyone else would be panicked, like, 'Oh my God, what are we going to do?' And he would say something to the effect of, 'Stephen, just lean right up against me if you need to sleep, and if you need me to reveal little tales of fitness and fortitude, I'm here, and I know a wide array of jokes, and we're in this together, and the better the brighter.' And I'd be like, 'Alright, Colin, whatever... I'm hungry.' "Well, I'm a sous chef.' 'Oh-kay.' So, I'd pick him."

-- When asked about his most challenging scene to shoot for Arrow, SA said that his most physically challenging scene to shoot was the mountain-top duel with Ra's al Ghul, but he also said that his scene with Prometheus was also very physically challenging because he had to be in real handcuffs so that he could lunge against them. SA: "And then, I think, there have been two scenes in the series - my last, um - not my last scene, but the last bit of dialogue between Oliver and Felicity, and, uh, my last bit of dialogue between Oliver and Moira, where you have to work really hard to make sure that your emotions in the moment and your friendships with those two people, not the two characters, don't get in the way of how the scene is actually supposed to go. That was very challenging."

-- Fan: "The first season, when you first started, when you first came back, and you started doing your whole Green Arrow thing, and you were sneaking off and you weren't going to tell anybody, how did you end up telling, like, um, Felicity and your bodyguard - I can't think of his name right now." SA: "Uh, to Diggle, yeah. Well, for a variety of reasons. One, you can only do voiceover for so long. You guys get that, don't you? No, I mean, you have to let people in. You have to let people in to the secret. I mean, one of my favorite youtube clips is, uh, Oliver's quote-unquote (Makes quotes gesture with fingers) secret identity, and it just details all the different times that he reveals himself to people, and it starts a counter every time, it goes 'bing'... Yeah, you gotta reveal, because it creates a cool, a much more [unintelligible word] area, and you get to interact with people, like, how do I interact? How do I [unintelligible word] my friendship with Diggle? With Felicity? With all the hundreds of other people that I've told?"

-- Fan: "We are seeing the last of Arrow, Yes, we know that Earth-1's Oliver Queen is dying. But, in the future, will we see a different Earth version of you?" SA: "I mean, look, there's - I said this when I put the video up announcing that we were going to wrap up the show, which, again, I do want to spend more time with my family... but that wasn't the critical factor. The critical factor is that, I think, ultimately, if you were to ask the people that were involved in Arrow, like, how long should it go? The answer would've been five years. Right? You would've told the flashback story and you would've concluded the story as you caught up in the flashbacks to where you began the series. That's the best synchronicity of the whole thing. That's not the way that network television works. We kept going. And I feel like we had a year that was - I wouldn't call it in limbo, but I thought it was a good season. But, we knew during that season, we made the decision that either Season 7 or Season 8, we were going to wrap it up. And I feel like, right before the endgame - no pun intended ... - was going to make the show sharper. And, you know, for - for me, it was just very important to, you know, go out strong. And when I did the video announcing that we were going to wrap things up, I said, you know, I might be leaving the show, but no one's ever really gone. And, look, I owe so much to, in no particular order, The CW, to Warner Brothers, to Greg Berlanti, to David Nutter, to Andy Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim, Beth Schwartz, James Bamford, Todd Pittson, and J.P. Finn, and the cast and the crew and everyone. I owe so much to them. So if, five years from now, they're wrapping up Show X and they go, 'You know what would be the cherry on top of the sundae? Would you come back?' What am I going to say? No? I mean, it’s a shitty idea that I'd say 'no.' Pardon my language. But you do what you can. I owe a lot to people, and if they need something from me, they can always have it."

-- SA: "We have a great stable of directors for Season 8, especially because it's a limited run of episodes.

And we have a new cast member directing, but that's not my news to share."

-- SA said that he pitched a "departure episode" for S8 that he hopes that they will do. (By "departure episode," he means an episode that's a departure from their normal episode, like, for example, their 150th documentary-style episode. Btw, he thought that they could've gone "100 times" further in their 150th episode.) He also wants to do a one-shot that 8-9 minutes long. He also jokingly said that he wanted to do a musical episode.

-- On his favorite scene that he got to do with EBR, SA: "You know when she got shot in the limo? It wasn't a fun scene, but it was a fun scene to shoot.

-- Fan: "My question is, who is your best friend on the set?" SA: "My best friend on the set?" Fan: "Yeah." SA: "Now?" (Audience laughs) Fan: "Yeah." SA: "Probably Emily." (Audience cheers and claps)

-- On having played a number of vigilante characters and being typecast, and whether he sees himself trying out for Marvel, SA: "I don't know, man. I do know that there's a negative connotation surrounding being typecast. Um, what you want as an actor, and what this young gentleman that I just spoke to will tell you, is that the big thing that you can do as an actor is get work in the first place. So how do you get typecast? You get typecast because you get work, and you do something to the point that there's a distinction to it, and that distinction makes people identify you with that type of character. So, I don't know what I'm going to do. That's one of the reasons that it's time for me to move on, because I want to get my hat back in the ring. And if that's a new character that's a Marvel character, if that's a DC character, if that's whatever, then we'll see. We will see."

KM did an Instagram live session yesterday (I only transcribed her Arrow comments)...

(Golden Warrior)

-- On what it was like working with EBR and SA, KM: "I love working with Emily and Stephen. Well, I haven't worked with Stephen, technically. Um, but, for those of you who've seen the finale, you know why. Um, I loved working with Emily. She was so, so lovely and really, really took me under her wing. And, um, we just go on so well, between singing Hamilton and quoting old plays and, uh, creating the Smoaks together. It's really been lovely to follow in their footsteps. And Stephen's been wonderful as well, kind of ushering me into that world. So, um, thank you to Stephen and Emily for being so lovely."

-- KM: "Yes, there will be a Season 8 of Arrow. Yes, it will be 10 episodes.

Um, I don't know - I know I'm not dead... I don't know what my involvement will be at this point - or if, or when, or whenever. I hope to be back as Mia. We'll see.

Um, but yes, there will be a Season 8 of Arrow."

Full video of JB panel at MegaCon Orlando on May 19 (I did not watch the entire video, so I do not know if he said anything about Arrow)...

On who he would pick if he had to be handcuffed to any other Arrowverse actor for 48 hours, SA: "Do I have to answer this now? Um. Oh my God.

As much as I love Stephen and Emily’s friendship and either of them talking about it, this has to be my favorite answer of the panel.

They replied and said it was out of their hands. Considering that EBR and DR haven’t adjusted their appearances (as far as I’m aware) I’m wondering if SA wanted a solo panel.

If this is true how many times can he do a panel with the same questions? LOL I have a feeling it was the spouse.

Maybe they added more photo ops in response to demand.

They would be dumb not to do that. I mean really it's a boat load of money. This is why they do cons. It's for the money and really people nowadays buy anything.

The con should know where the demand is by looking at other cons.

And it doesn't really matter in SA's case but for many CW actors cons can pull in what they make in an episode. Even with him that's a lot of extra cash for a weekend's work and will be there probably in  10 years time when everyone else has forgotten the show.

Wow...

FYI, I just posted a recent EBR interview about her movie, Funny Story, in the Arrow Stars in Other Roles thread here, in which she talks about how she likes to play imperfect characters because they're interesting and also indicates that she might like to direct some day.
