Last week's episode was so weak it had me rethinking watching the show. This week it was right back to unpredictable drama and Rachel doing horrible things and convincing herself it was good. Looking forward to the guilt she has to live with as well as the fallout of Mary's death.

OMG that was crazy! How are they even going to do a second season of this show? A different bachelor show?

This is all on Shia, Rachel and Quinn. Shia for switching her pills, Quinn for coming up with the "bring in the abusive ex" angle and Rachel for going along with it.

Well. Now the episode title makes sense.

I was loathe to agree with anything Shia says because she sucks but yeah, bringing the abusive ex-husband was a colossally BAD idea.

That said, Shia is SO going to jail for that.

Although, honestly, I was expecting Mary to shank the ex while he was all tied up.

That was....not great. The stuff with Mary was too over the top like a Lifetime movie (even if I thought the scene in the trailer was a well done Lifetime movie), and this derails the entire show, both Everlasting and unREAL become about this moment. I'm okay with boundary pushing but this would end the show.

To make matters worse, the rest of the episode was spent with Jeremy, Lizzie, Shia, and Chet/Quinn.

My damn DVr cut out. Is she definitely dead? So sad. Shia has the most blame though. She ws losing it before the ex showed up. See her reaction to the bunny and the sisters alarm. In her right mind she would not have overreacted to the abusers taunts.

Too bad Mary didn't take Rachel with her.

Or Shia.

I have to be honest.  I was a little disappointed by the death.  They promised something that had never been done before and for some reason, I feel like this has been done before.  For that reason, I was expecting her to kill her daughter as well, if not first.

Gosh I hope they don't have the daughter go back with her father.

But does anyone know that Shia messed with Mary's medication?

No.  And unless they test that medication, it's likely no one will ever know.  If they find that her medication levels were low during an atopsy, they'll just assume she wasn't taking her meds.  I would be surprised if anyone suspected sabotage.

They showed her replacing her capsules with powdered sugar or something similar last week. Getting her off the medication that helped her stay calm.

I put it all on Shia for messing with her medication. That's manslaughter on Jack McCoy's watch.

I loved Jack McCoy but he would be indicting Rachel, Quinn, Chet, and the ex as well. He might also use some insane legal theory to try Adam for leading her on.

Shia turned off the cameras when she went in to change the medication. Unless they can find that moment in the footage or Shia confesses, they will never know. Seeing how Shia kept deflecting about Mary's behavior and putting it all on Rachel I don't see her rushing to admit her part.

Shia is the worst.

What happened in the preview??? My DVR cut out!

I thought this was riveting, a great episode. I loved seeing Chet and qui work together and how it turned them on, they really do make a good team and I think they have real feelings for one another.

I'm sorry but while bringing on the abuser was dickish it's also normal reality TV show stuff... Or at least springer.

All the blame is on Shia. All of it. Mary is bipolar. She was definitely manic in the date and during the interview talking about London showed she was becoming delusional. I feel so sorry for her daughter. Her husband will likely not get custody as now there is footage of his abuse. The child will likely go to a family member ... She has a caring aunt... Or she'd be in the system.

And Shia should go to jail.

Damn. I liked plastic Mary. Too bad the helicopter for the date didn't arrive sooner, Adam could have grabbed her from the roof.

Could not believe Quinn was going back to ugly Chet. Let Cynthia keep him.

Is it a running joke on the show that Adam gets punched every few episodes?

I blame Shia. If Mary is on her medication, perhaps no suicide. Quinn/Rachel definitely didn't help by bringing tin the ex.The ex put her on the roof. That last conversation with him, I did not get the feeling she was suicidal until his comments about the daughter being better off without her and not getting Mary's sickness. They all share blame, but Shia the most.

I still don't care about you Jeremy.

I knew Mary was going to buy the farm when she said good bye to Lily Bell. But that "don't. miss. the. last. 30. seconds!" stuff is kind of played out. The husband is also culpable. He knew about her bipolar thing and he tried to trigger it. Rachel is the worst kind of villain, the one who thinks they are a good person. I guess Jeremy is supposed to be like the ex, with his rough sex play and being the only guy to take the angry guy down.

Is it inappropriate to make Ashley Scott "Birds of Prey" comments?

Honestly, I didn't like this ep as much as I liked last weeks and I think it was due to the actress who plays Mary - I know she was supposed to be acting out of it because she was off the mess but she was just way too over the top and not believable for me. I also thought the shocking ending was gonna be her killing her ex husband when she went in to meet him. I think that would have been more shocking if you ask me.

i like Chet more now that's he's actually trying to be involved with the show. The bet scene between Quinn and Chet with Rachel chiming in in the background was cute. I like seeing Rachel and Quinn laughing together.

It felt like Quinn was producing Rachel when trying to sell her on bringing the ex in. Rachel should have known better.

What was that scene with Adam and Anna? Is Adam really interested in her or playing her? He told her to meet him away from the cameras, so is he serious that he felt something or does he just want to get 'some'?

Shia I have no words for - I blame her more than anyone for Mary. This could have never happened had she not messed with those pills.

Interesting bout jeremy. I didn't get that vibe from him,,, I thought he was just attacking hsi fiancé the way rachel liked to be handled and she sensed it. But you could be right, still he doesn't seem abusive and manipulative....

And yes... That "better off without you" thing is poisonous.

Holy Crap.

That was....Dark.

Is it wrong to add on that I found Jeremy kind of hot tonight?  He was able to clock/bring down the awful ex husband where Adam couldn't.   I don't think Jeremy is being controlling or abusive.  I think he was fantasying about his almost tryst with Rachel.  I think it showed that while he loves his (now ex?) fiancé, there doesn't seem to be the raw chemistry he has with Rachel.  (ymmv on the raw chemistry- I'm just calling it like I think the producers of Unreal want us to think that).

Shia better get prison time.  Lots of it.

I don't know how Everlasting (this season at least) can continue now.

More thoughts later, after I've been able to process more.  I'm still shocked that Mary is (probably) dead.

When Mary asked if the ex was restrained, I thought she was going to kill him. Then when he told her she was probably going to pass her mental illness on to her daughter, I actually thought she might try to kill Lily. And then I thought she might take whoever was trying to save her with her.

Suicide with no other casualties was the least of what I contemplated!

I don't think I liked it. I had read this forum since I watched it via DVR so I was spoiled. I just felt like the whole thing was too over the top for me. Plus, had Mary actually grabbed Rachel's hand she totally would have gone over too. There was nothing for her to hold on to on that Spanish tiled roof.

I liked Chet's and Quinn's presentation to the execs about the next year. Their vibe was right on - the seasoned veteran of presentations and the nervous newbie. Of course Quinn would bore them with stats and figures when all the execs want is smoke and mirrors.

Do they really do family dates like that on Bachelor/ette? I agree with Chet. Totally unsexy.

I like the braided haired intern. I don't know why. She has the potential to be fascinating I think - playing our role as the outside observer to the chaos.

Jeremy and blondie bore me. She's too insecure and that's not going to change. Jeremy would do well to dump her.

Shia interests me. She's completely insecure in her job and that's making her make mistakes and do things she wouldn't ordinarily do. It's interesting, to me, to watch. She'll continue to circle the drain because every mistake she makes reinforces her ineptitude at her job which causes her to make a mistake...

The ending was dark, but still predictable and boring. Mary's "decent into madness" didn't work for me on multiple levels. The timeline felt wrong--even if she stopped getting her medicine I think it would take several days to get out of her system completely. Also, a manic episode usually lasts months before the depression kicks in. I don't know how long the time on the how is suppose to be, but it seemed like a few says rather than weeks. The actress playing Mary Wascnot convincing. She didn't get great dialogue to work with--that Little Match Girl speech was terrible. However, she showed little emotion when confronting Anna. A bipolar person having a manic episode should be screaming, not just making nasty remarks. She didn't even cry when her ex said all those nasty things to her.

I didn't care for this episode. Too much Mary (who is fine in small doses, but not so great as a central figure) and not enough Rachel. Also, I was sooooo annoyed by the constant Lifetime commercials telling us that SOMETHING BIG was coming in the last 30 seconds. I'm not usually uptight about spoilers, but that was obnoxious. I knew the first or second time that came on that a suicide attempt (or possibly a murder suicide from the husband) was on its way. It really ruined the episode for me. Not cool Lifetime. If your entire episode is good, you don't need to hype the last 30 seconds because everyone will just stay and watch it until the end because it's good TV.

Also, I think Adam/Rachel ship finally captured my heart this week. That scene between he and Rachel when she asked him if he liked anyone (besides Grace and her Hoover mouth) was adorable.

I guess Jeremy is supposed to be like the ex, with his rough sex play and being the only guy to take the angry guy down.

I don't think that's how those scenes were meant to be taken at all. I thought the point of that scene was meant to contrast the different ways Lizzy and Rachel move with him in bed. There's nothing abusive about rough sex if that's what both parties are into, and at least judging from the way Rachel responded to him last week, Rachel's into it. Jeremy's mind and libido are clearly still with Rachel and not with Lizzy, so he tried to treat Lizzy as he would as he would Rachel hoping the sex would turn him on in the same way. But Lizzy wasn't into it. Lizzy's line about not being one of the porn girls in Jeremy's head was the key clue here, because he WAS picturing someone else in his head when he was with Lizzy. It just wasn't porn.

And with the punching, that wasn't about him being hot headed, he was being protective of Rachel which Lizzy recognized. That's why she asked him if he thought they were moving too fast. She saw Jeremy being so quick to jump in to save Rachel as a sign that he's still hung up on her.

I like this show but I thought a Mary suicide has been telegraphed since the moment they mentioned she was bipolar episodes ago. Then Shia tampering with her meds and it was just a matter of when.

The show could have had the moment be somewhat surprising had the network not aired those stupid "LAST. 30. SECONDS!!!" promos during the actual airing. Were they really worried people would switch channels?

So I didn't find it that shocking at all. Hope the rest of the season isn't this predictable.

I agree. The show has footage of Mary drinking which may counteract the effectiveness of some medications. Shia is heinously dumb, but she might get away with it.

It's clear that Everlasting is edited in real time. I have no idea what the network does when something this catastrophic happens on a real time reality show. On Megan Wants a Millionaire, they scrapped the entire show never airing one second of it. But for something that has already aired a significant number of episodes, what do you do? I can tell that the switched medications plot was intended to address allegations that some shows have withheld medications from participants. One of the shows was Face Off. The alleging contestant has bipolar, but was eliminated on the first day so it was unlikely that his medication was out of his system.

I think the closest comparison would be the 2001 season of "Big Brother." The September 11 attacks occurred during the last few weeks of the show. The contestants were penned in for a couple of days, not being filmed for competitions, when the producers finally explained what was going on. I think one even had a relative who was missing at the time. Eventually they started up again and declared a winner.

It looks like the Everlasting contestants are being sequestered in the mansion next week.

That's all Shia and she knows it. What she did was illegal and all her fault. Then she had the nerve to criticize Rachel? Rachel's on the assumption Mary was on the wagon and taking her pills.  Shia knew very well that her drugs were switched out and she was mixing alcohol with her bipolar.

Shia should be pushed off the roof next.

With mood stabilizers, it's not sufficient for most people to just have some amount of medicine persisting in the system. These are strong drugs and stopping cold turkey--as Mary unknowingly did--can lead to an immediate episode. People need to do a supervised, gradual taper to lower their dose, much less to stop taking the meds entirely. What Shia did was so horrible precisely because what happened really could happen, and I hope she ends up in jail for it (yes, I know she's fictional. But I'll still be happy.)

I got the feeling that Shia was criticizing Rachel so hard because she was spooked by her conversation with Mary's sister and was becoming increasingly alarmed by Mary's behavior.  I think even before Mary got up on the roof, it had already started dawning on her how dangerous it was to that switch Mary's meds.  I think she got scared because she could see things were headed in a bad direction and was terrified that someone's going to figure out what she did.  By shifting all of the blame for Mary's behavior onto the appearance of Mary's ex, she's trying to make sure no one thinks to check her meds,

I really don't think Shia expected Mary would react this badly to being off her meds.  I think she was being honest when she told Mary's sister that she seemed like she was having more fun lately.  I think by taking her off the meds, Shia thought Mary might be more wild and fun and competitive, but I don't think she expected she would become seriously unhinged.  But once she started to see the writing on the wall, she knew she needed to start covering her tracks.  You could just see the dread rolling off of her.

If the sister starts talking about Mary drinking, they'll run a blood sample. That may or may not tell the tale of the meds if they're looking for it. But then they would have to suspect Mary didn't just go off her meds or that another contestant didn't do it. Did she take all the adulterated pills in that I week pill case by then? Short of Rachel using her powers of persuasion to get Shia to confess, this could drag out the rest of the season.

I too hated those "THE LAST 30 SECONDS ARE UNBELIEVEABLE" ads--it's kind of like when someone tells you there's a twist in the movie so you don't enjoy it, you end up thinking about all the possible twists and then whatever it is ends up usually being disappointing.

When the little girl ran up to the ex-husband so warmly, I thought maybe there was more to the story than first thought, like maybe it was actually Mary that broke Lilly Belle's arm during one of her episodes. Then I thought that maybe Mary would discover Adam and Anna's secret tryst, thus shattering her delusions about her happily ever after with Adam. THEN it would lead to maybe an OD (mixing her meds with the alcohol like they kept hinting at). But nope. So the reveal was less impactful then the ads made it out to be.

Needed more Rachel and Adam.

That's where my mind went to.  I also thought of her offing the ex near the end of the episode.

I don't think Jeremy stopping that guy should've been such a big deal to his fiancee.  Someone had to stop him.  I agree that he was trying to live out a fantasy in the beginning sex scene.  He doesn't want to be with Rachel in a practical sense but he does want her.

I totally agree about the last 30 seconds ads during the show.  If there was no warning, that ending would've been way more powerful because you wouldn't expect the show to really go there.

I also agree this is a reason why Everlasting was aired during filming.  Then they couldn't cover up something this awful.  They are going to be in a lot of trouble, not just because they essentially drove Mary to this point but as she was about to kill herself they were saying things like "I have a woman on the roof and I need a camera on her."  On a less important note than who is going to jail and if this show is now over, everyone is going to be a lot worse at their jobs since they're scared of pushing people too far.  Fair enough.  Rachel loved how good she was at her job.  She was good enough to talk someone to a ledge but not off one.  That's going to mess her up even worse than she already is.

I was bored by this episode, too.  I don't like the character Mary, or the actress who plays her.  Nothing was believable (terrible acting) and I blame the director and script writer, too..  I watched on my DVR so FFed through the commercials and missed the alerts to the last 30 seconds.

I much prefer Jeremy to Adam and see that he and Rachael will have a go at it again. I don't like Adam at all even though he helped Faith, I, too, saw the rough sex as what Rachael likes and alerted his wife to the connection.

I am disappointed that it has taken this turn.  Everything I liked about this show will now be gone.  I liked watching the behind the scenes manipulation, the relationships, all of them, and that includes Chet and Quinn.  Now what?  Angst over pending jail time for many.  Ugh and damn.

I'll assume there's a plan, but I have no idea how they get out of this spot. I'm disappointed that they went with the bipolar person commits suicide plot though. I would rather have seen them play out her unraveling and how the show and the players deal with it. I'd like to see how Quinn and Rachel get her off the show and under medical care without the show falling apart.

I really don't like the actress playing Mary either. I wanted that performance to be more nuanced. Also, she has had Botox, right? I kept staring at her forehead because of the odd wrinkle pattern. It was distracting, and makes me reconsider my own desire to get Botox. I'm back to trying to age gracefully I think.

I just realized the walking plot device/therapist was missing from this episode. Not only was she not physically present, but no one thought to suggest asking the therapist if Mary could handle talking to the abusive ex-hubby. I get that Rachel on the roof makes for better dramatic tension, but a throwaway line from Quinn explaining the absence would have been nice, e.g, "Dammit, where's Grace when we actually need her?" or "Someone call Grace and tell her to get her butt to the mansion now!"

KateeBar, I thought her forehead wrinkles liked wierd too. I kept thinking that she looked like a Bajoran from Star Trek of the odd wrinkles between her eyebrows.

I agree. Unlike last week's episode, where Faith (and Adam and Rachel) carried the episode and made it very interesting, this one had too much Mary--who was very wooden, even in her manic and then suicidal state.

I did like the few Rachel and Adam scenes we had--them bonding over not liking children, and the conversation where Rachel asked him if he was liking anyone--and he just smiled at her.

But Adam is such a rooster-prick. He was still planning a potential hook-up later with Anna, he's getting regular BJs from Grace, he serviced Chet's friend's wife...

even if he does have genuine feelings for Rachel, what does that matter, given how he feels about and treats women?

Yeah, that "living in the UK" and "Little Match Girl" shit was weird. Mary should have been more closely monitored at that point.

The bunny scene was funny, though. Anna is very good at being a mean girl. Even though it was only a slightly mean thing to do--I don't place any blame on Anna or Chet for Mary's suicide.

I remember the actress from when she got replaced in the (Friends spinoff) Joey pilot and you gotta be pretty bad to get fired from a crappy sitcom. When I saw she was on this show, I was hoping that she'd either improved or that she wouldn't get much screen time. No such luck. That was the exact reason I didn't really like this episode. Too much Mary. More Rachel would have made it lots better. A good actor goes a long way.

^ I agree - nothing personal against her, but a better actress could have carried the episode - like Breeda Wool's Faith did last week - and really shined. That's why this ep didn't work for me - it could have been great. I just wasn't feeling it. I enjoyed all the non-Mary scenes.

Also wish they wouldn't have advertised the last 30 seconds, they hyped it up and it ended being not that shocking compared to other twists they could have taken.

Only other thing would be if Rachel fell with her.

I can't see how Rachel can get from under the buss that Shia will back up on her.

I groaned out loud (GOL?) when Rachel started talking about the therapeutic value of Mary confronting the ex. Rachel's mom is a therapist—not her. Nicole Kidman's dad was a clinical psychologist, but I wouldn't take advice from her.

And "me, three" about those distracting wrinkles between Mary's eyes.
