S20.E03: Latin Night

I'm with you on them not announcing the couples/dances at the beginning of their dance anymore.

I don't usually look at whatever sites/social media feeds announce the dances & the songs being danced to before the show, & I can't position myself to actually *see* my TV (& the little thing they now supposedly put onscreen saying what dance the couple's doing) any longer, thanks to a recent medical/pain issue that I'm dealing with on the side I'd have to lie on to see my TV.

So I miss hearing the British voice saying, like, "Dancing the Samba... Tony Dovolani and Suzanne Somers!" before the music starts. Plus, I thought the before dance intros were kinda "classy", but still in the cheesy way that befits the show.

I'm with both of you.  I have a 60 inch TV that I sit right in front of and I still have difficulty catching what dance it is, and these days with all the liberties they're taking in the classic dances I often can't identify it by watching it.  The name flashes by so fast I often can't catch it unless I rewind.  And I don't even have any vision/medical issue to prevent me from seeing it.  It's just a bad idea.  Why did they eliminate the announcement?  Some changes are just stupid, IMHO.

No but I looked at her twitter feed and they were at the Superbowl together this year she hangs with him, and that sob story about almost ending it all was a bit too melodramatic for my taste. The guy is a goof . If he insists on telling the world he contemplated suicide, he needs to tell the whole situation, because the bits and pieces he conveniently leaves out is just trying to draw sympathy. And that's the story he's trying to portray on DWTS. Oh please, Robert, the kids were disgusted because you took up with some woman 20 years younger and closer to their age. The story isn't new.

Yes, thank you. I thought it was old news and posted that article without reading it carefully because it was one of the first results, but there are photos and video if you search their names together. He's still the same public figure I like watching, but after reading glowing comments about him as a person and how "dreamy" his eyes are, I thought this might be of interest rather than only seeing the fantasy/produced showmance.

Ha. Sorry, can't have sympathy for a billionaire who is acting like an idiot to get votes. Just not that into him and his violins.  Sort of like Andy Dick, when he put on the water works to be rehabilitated, the show was soooo good for him, until the next season when he pissed himself in the audience and had to be barred from the set.

De-lurking to say that I really liked Rumer & Val's routine and thought they were underscored. I thought Robert and Kym were super cute, too, even though his dancing is still in the works. I like Riker and his spunk and thought his dancing was pretty good, but like others mentioned Allison's choreography is a tad frenetic. I hope she tones it down and really shows what Riker can do.

Bruno's comment to Charlotte was definitely obnoxious and uncalled for, but I'm glad she's gone. Her attitude was just grating, and every time the camera showed her watching the other dancers from the balcony she looked like a skunk just crossed her path.

Sorry if someone else already mentioned this, but Suzanne looked just like the Chiquita Banana lady in that costume.

LOL...Video where they are walking at a movie premiere and they're not even touching?  They're not even walking side by side.  People believe everything on the internet I guess, including websites that are barely readable.

I mean I don't know the guy or his real deal, but to make such unequivocal judgement on some pretty shitty evidence is a bit much.

I didn't think Charlotte was a good dancer and she deserved to go but I can't figure out what was really going on with her.  She tried to elicit sympathy for being put down by mean people online just for being beautiful and having big breasts, but it came off kind of like an insincere "don't hate me because I'm beautiful" thing.  Well, when you put it like that, people are going to tend to hate you more, not have sympathy for you!  Like sistah, get over yourself, you're not that beautiful and maybe do you think they're hating on you for other reasons, like maybe your vapid self absorbed personality?  On the other hand the way the judges slammed her down so hard I knew she had to be the one to go home.  They just used the opportunity to get out what they REALLY thought about her.  Very mean spirited.  Bruno?  Just clueless.

Every time I see Riker's name I think his parents must have been a couple of Trekkies, LOL.  Before I even knew it, I knew he had to have some kind of prior dancing experience.  I don't mind that, just own up to it.

Yeah, I think she was channeling Carmen Miranda, who was known for her fruit hats, singing and samba style dancing.

Making the "unequivocal judgment" that they're not dating is what is a bit much. So he and this D-list younger model-actress just like to appear together at events for photo ops? That one video you're basing your entire judgment on has very telling body language IMO despite it not being a PDA press conference. You're picking and choosing what to allow yourself to see because their bodies actually were touching for the entire start of the video (just like when they were photographed at The Golden Globes). We can of course speculate all we want but the facts speak for themselves: this model-actress 20 years or so his junior has been photographed with him alone at events multiple times through the years and now he is getting a divorce. Sure, it's possible they just get together for...I don't know, intellectual sparring, but now which is more far-fetched?

I like Robert a lot. He seems to be quite a nice guy on Shark Tank (not watching DWTS, so who knows how he's coming across there.) He's also mega-wealthy, quite good looking, drives fancy sports cars and given his level of success probably is away from home a whole lot. I'd actually be more surprised if him having an affair isn't behind the marriage breakup.

That said, I don't see what difference it makes to anyone outside his immediate family, nor how it figures in to a cheesy dancing (non-)contest. If this was Dancing with the Above Reproach Stars there'd be no contestants whatsoever.

Topic? Watching a once-fun show whimper and contrive its way to its inevitable end is sad and frustrating. Hence, my not watching.

Well unfortunately it was Robert with the TMI, coming out with the wanting to contemplate suicide stuff. Why was that? He's newly separated from his wife and he's worth 200 million. He's been hanging with some woman 20 years his junior for the last two years, but has pivoted so he's now in a showmance. Please. He's using DWTS media as a platform that just might just get him the divorce settlement he wants, and get sympathy from the saps that buy it. He's a Shark all right.

I've been seeing commercials where Bruno gets up and leaves after he said that, and all the judges are upset at him, plus Patti says, "No he did-dn't." Is that editing or did that really happen?

I really did not have a problem with Bruno's comment to Charlotte because it is seems to be true.  She does not come across as the sharpest knife in the drawer.  At least, that is how she has chosen to present herself in her attempt at a "career."

Now that she is off the show, she is back posting porn pictures on Instagram.  Such a classy woman.

It's rewriting history for the most part--he kept talking and they went to other judges making comments, not commenting on what Bruno said.

It's possible Patti said that in the moment, though they didn't show it.

That was the feeling I got, that the show (read: Bruno) was getting heat for his comment and the promo was damage control. But i'm not in the DWTS In Crowd so I'm just speculating. I just thought it odd the show was promo-ing a clip for a contestant already sent home.

Yeah, I think the promos they are showing with Bruno walking out and such are the reaction to viewer discomfort with his remark after the fact. I didn't see any of that last week, so I just assumed that they brought it from the live show outtakes. (Just like every week they show the judges showing scores in unison from the previous week, not the actual string of them showing the scores in succession.) I wasn't horribly offended by the remark when he made it, especially when Tom fired back to point out that he's not a mental giant either, but I did think it was classless (not a shock for Bruno, admittedly).

I like Riker and I like his dancing. I'm sure every person alive has lied once or twice, but still I wish he had admitted it from the beginning. I knew about his dance experience and wasn't bothered by it since so many other celebs have had dancing backgrounds, and they've all minimized it.

Being one who watches the show to see good dancing, I'm unembarrassedly fond of ringers. I like to watch great dancing and I wouldn't watch the show if the cast was laden with a bunch of Charlottes and Wynonas.

However, when Allison told Riker their dance was the Foxtrot and he asked, "What's that?" I suddenly became bothered. The more times they're asked about it and lie, the more bothersome it becomes.. After lying enough times, it's almost impossible to come clean and thus leads to the inevitable and uncomfortable tangled web syndrome.

It's only a television show and for me, there's a lot to like. Riker's dancing experience is just one more of life's molehills, but with DWTS, it's easy for the molehills to quickly become mountains. So, to repeat myself, I wish he had just fessed up at the start.

Well, he could have only done Latin ballroom.  However, I agree that he should have confessed that he did some ballroom.  I also posted in his own thread that I don't think he has a lot of experience in ballroom and posted a little more detail about the Provo competition.  I also agree with you that I don't mind ringers at all because I want to watch good dancing.
