Where do these people even go besides church, Walmart, or some random Po’ Folks restaurant?  I rarely go into stores or anywhere for that matter, and I can’t imagine how inconvenient it would be for people to drag their entire families with them, let alone concern themselves with other people’s looks or family dynamics. Especially when people are worrying about where their next meal is going to come from.

During Covid, aren't people leaving the kids at home most of the time, and sending just one person to the store? I know my 4 year-old granddaughter goes out so rarely that she gets excited about getting to wear her mask somewhere! Jill is beyond narrow-minded~

Wow, I think Jill's actually outdone herself with the hatefulness of that post. It's more than hateful; it's stupid. You know, my youngest daughter has a beautiful "traditional" family: wife, husband, 8-month-old baby. They're even practicing Christians. But If the Rods visited here they'd never see this correct-seeming family because (a) the parents juggle jobs and childcare, and (b) they mostly stay home because there's a fucking pandemic going. That baby has never been to a restaurant or Walmart. Never.

And what in God's name is wrong with a grandma tagging along? I would think they'd be in favor of multigenerational family activities. 

Edited to add: I kind of wish the Rods would come to town, because if my daughter (the married heterosexual Christian who's also a politically active liberal feminist and a helluva debater) got wind of Jill's homophobic, MAGA, patriarchal nonsense, she'd tear her a new one. And I'd sell tickets.

Well, what else have the girls heard? All their lives their lives their mother has judged people harshly.  I bet they have never heard her say anything kind about someone who looks different and because they do not go to school they have no other model.

Exactly, if a young child actually said those things; it is indicative of poor parenting that Jill didn't correct her and tell her that criticizing the appearance of others is wrong.

Also, in the 1950's ideal family pic that Jill posted, the mother figure has sluttish bare shoulders.  Jill should've asked Jana Duggar to photoshop a tee shirt under her dress.

Jill's children struggle daily to please "Momma". Thus, NotNurie will of course make a judgmental comment that she knows will please the everlastingly judgmental Jill. The girl will not have a thought of her own until she is married and even then her thoughts will be those of her husband. I feel so hopeless for those poor, underfed children! And it seems the boys are even worse off than the girls 😞

I have two different friends who lost their husbands to cancer when they were in their 40's and were left with young kids.  And, you know what, I often accompanied them to movies, to dinner, to amusement parks to help handle their kids.  I guess Jill would disapprove.

Jill, the two kids in the 1950's suburban family are probably the only two the family plans to have. They are not into creating an army for God. They are busy buying electric appliances and televisions, however, as post-war consumerism ramps up. 

A single worker could support a family, buy a small house, and get their kids educated in the 1950's. That's no longer true as capital is being sucked out of the working classes to provide trust funds and stock portfolios for the very wealthy. This is being done in part by the brand of politicians Jill admires. 

Most people then and now want to provide a future for their kids. Jill and her sloppy husband are the real outliers since their children seem to be an afterthought.

Jill is also conveniently leaving out the time of day she is out shopping.   Dad is at work 11am on a Tuesday and can't go with his wife and kids to Aldi.  Or 2pm on a Thursday.   The Amish men can because they are self employed. 

And also, most 1950s dads did not go with the wife and kids either.   The image Jill used is of a family at leisure. Shopping has never been a family leisure activity,  usually.   I know many families in my area who shop at Walmart together on the weekends.  Jill's argument would have been stronger if her scenario was a Saturday afternoon at the park.  The premise of the meme and her diatribe is still fundamentally wrong though.

Jill needs to realize that she has posted pictures of herself and her daughters out at coffee shops, etc. Perhaps people who saw them in the coffee shop thought that Jill was a single mom and judged her just as she is judging others. Not that I really think anyone other than Jill would be that hateful.

I can see how seeing a grandma with her blue-haired, tattooed daughter and grandchild would be threatening to Jill. It might mean that grandma raised her daughter to be her own person and accepts her for who she is, as opposed to Jill’s conditional acceptance of her children as long as they are obedient robots. In return, the tattooed daughter may want to spend time with her mother even though she probably has friends and a life of her own. Jill’s children, on the other hand, are forced to spend time with Jill, due to their isolation and Jill’s control of them. 
 

As a former teacher, I have seen all kinds of families. I have seen wonderful traditional families and dysfunctional ones. I have also seen many wonderful non-traditional families. One of my best parents was a lesbian raising her ex-girlfriend’s special needs niece. She was a better parent than Jill will ever be. Jill is so threatened by anything that doesn’t fit her narrow views and, IMO, uses her interpretation of the Bible to justify her fears and ignorance.

I’m also in Ohio, but not Jill’s area. Our stores have signs stating only one member of a household at a time should be shopping.
