Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

No she found the cure I’ll tell you it’ll be all over the news soon.

These days, it wouldn't surprise me if Jill presented herself as some kind of authority and people believed her.

The downside is getting sued.

Surely there would have been a celebration for the Kellers' 40th anniversary, the date for which was fixed... 40 years ago. Nurthan chose to piggyback on their anniversary, not the other way round. They CHOSE to share that date. I don't see anything wrong with the Keller anniversary celebration on their date. It's not like these fundie receptions run long. Lots of time for a party afterwards. If Nathan and Nurie didn't want to share the limelight, they'd have chosen another day.

I got married on what would have been my grandparents' 51st anniversary had my grandfather been alive. It would definitely have been a shared occasion otherwise, even though 51 is not a milestone. There'd be no time for a separate party, though, because in my family wedding festivities go all night. 🥳

I was thinking this. Jill is going to suck the lifeforce out of that poor Dingus.

I don't know why M kids would be in the wedding. There are soooooo many rodlets already they haven't room for more kids.  It also looks like Nathan is closer to Priscilla and David than Anna and SP. All things considered, if Jill is trying to social climb, TFDW is the one to glom on to.

I'm with you on the anniversary party. Considering the way fundies do weddings, and that Nurthan chose that particular date, it's perfectly fine that the Kellers celebrated on the same day and even "upstaged" the wedding. It's only now after repeated mocking on tv that some fundies feed their wedding guests anything more than cake and punch. Anything more than that can be considered upstaging. The Keller party was probably meant to be an after party for specific guests that Jill hijacked into a "second reception."

Jill is the type of short sighted social climber who thinks fame is more valuable than the type of real world connections that David possesses. I'm sure that Jill had Nurie ask Anna to be a bridesmaid as well as for the M kids to be in the wedding.

Yep Duggar boys are useless none have jobs. All live off daddy’s allowance.

JRod's husband is also useless and doesn't have a job.  Or a wealthy father.  Jill would have no problem with one of her girls marrying a Duggar boy.  Their earning potential far exceeds Shrek's.  And, considering the amount of support Jill's kids get prior to marriage, I think all of them will know better than to ask Jill and David for help if they need money.

I feel like Jill's mother is more fundie than David's mother, who actually looks pretty normal. Even so, Jill's mother does not nearly have the same love affair with makeup that her daughter has...just the 80s hair.

I don't think David's mother is very fundy at all.  Jill has told us repeatedly that David was a godless sinner in his younger days until someone handed him a pamphlet at the mall and he was saved.  That makes me think his parents weren't as fundy as Jill's.  And certainly not as fundy as Jill and David.

David's mother posted a t-shirt she needs on her fb page that says something about Bingo at the Casino. so definitely not fundy

Maybe this explains the look on David's brother's face in that one wedding picture. Or rehearsal picture? I am still cackling at how disgruntled he looked.

Hmmm...I don't think I've had any ice cream in the past few months...I'm personally thinking that wine and potato chips - with the occasional gin & tonic - have some amazing anti-viral properties.

Children grow up and leave.  That’s life.  You don’t whine and carry on and make them feel guilty for leaving.

Maybe Jill will have a memorial service for not dead Nurie, like she did for not dead Amy

OMG, be more dramatic, Jill. Nurie isn't dead (like the thousands of Americans who died from Covid because you couldn't get them all Plexus), she's married. I shudder to think what this does to Nurie's psyche and the rest of the poor kids still stuck at home. Hopefully, none of them feel guilty for wanting a life away from Jill.

I know nothing of Nurie's personality, but the though crossed my mind that she  may freak out being away from her heavily controlling mother and family....  I won't be surprised if she winds up back home for a "extended visit".

I think Kaylee & Renee would make great wives for the Duggar boys. They're fundy, submissive, and don't seem to have any personality. Plus, unlike the last three Duggar daughters-in-law, they've never been part of a loving household so they're going to appreciative of the least little thing their husband does for them (like bringing them chocolate milk!) but won't expect them to be all that considerate to their needs.

I was wondering this too - what does a young, naive woman who has been controlled her entire life do once she's sprung from her family prison?  Does she call Mama 14 times a day?  Does Nathan attempt to slowly wean her from her horrible mother, or does he not know any better himself?  Does she see the world as new and exciting, or too big and terrifying?

The way Nurie adapted to different standards at the Pearls, gives me hope that she'll be able to at least adapt to the Keller ways if not begin finding her way in a few weeks or months.  She's already changed her hair and makeup away from Jill's normal standards and if her recent dresses are an indication she's ready to ditch the multiple layers.

I've got a bunch of sisters.  Two of them married at 19, moving out of my parents house directly to live with their new husbands, having never lived on their own before.  My older sister and I, in particular, were very close, only a year apart in age.  We not only shared a bedroom, we shared a double bed because our room was too small for individual twin beds.  My sister eloped, BTW, we didn't know until after the fact.  And, yet. I spent not one minute mourning it, even my parents, who didn't think that a teen marriage was a good idea, managed to carry on with life.  None of my siblings were mourning, either. And my parents never even suggested we go to Swings 'n Things to help us cope.

BTW, that teen marriage is now 45 years young.  We think those crazy kids just might make a go of it.

Same here.I eloped at 19,parents didn't know till after the fact.My fiance was going into the Air Force, and they refused to give me a wedding.

That was 36 years ago.We aren't fundy,but it was an adjustment.And i knew my husb. before marriage,and I had a job.

I can't imagine what Nurie is going through. She's been so sheltered her whole life. This must be a shock for her

I hope Nathan is treating Nurie well, and I hope she is treating him well. For all the submissive wife stuff Nurie learned about in church, her example is her mother, a controlling shrew with a smarmy exterior.

If not queen, at least let him not only love but value her as his wife. I know its a fundie marriage, but there is no reason she can't be happy. I see Kendra Duggar and she is happy. I'd like that for Nurie.

Does anyone know the sign language symbol for help? Either that or it’s a gang sign.

Actually I think it’s just her hand is facing forward and the angle of the picture makes it look weird.

Fluent in sign language and that is not the sign for "help", or anything else that I am aware of.

Depends entirely on the woman, I think. Different people certainly do quite different things coming out of the exact same situation.

And I think our impression of the Rodrigui is too swallowed up in what we see of Jill to give us any insight into what any of the kids is like. All we ever see is Jill's vision, so I'm pretty sure nobody who follows her massive social-media presence has the slightest idea about what the individual personalities of the kids are -- even though they do have them, just like the rest of us, and even though she appears to tell and show endless things about her family. When you think about it, she really tells us nothing. It's all her.

Here's hoping Nurie is one of those who feel they're in a brave new world, once the initial shock wears off.

It reminds me in a way of Mullet Duggar water-skiing. Like this is what they each would have enjoyed doing if not for god and religion and a zillion kids they apparently are not interested in.

Apparently, Shrek is quite the bowler. He beat everyone when the Dinguii treated them to an afternoon on the lanes.
