Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Janessa has learned to smile whenever the camera is pointed at her, which is probably a good thing. I'm not a musician by any means, but does the piano need to be tuned or are the acoustics just bad?

Not sure, but it looks like a desk/tabletop electric fireplace.

It's a tiny electric fireplace/heater, suitable for heating one room.  Jill's not about to get cold on those cold winter nights, although I'd think that at his size, Shrek would provide more than enough heat.

Its placement on top of a piece of wooden furniture is problematic, as it could be a fire hazard.  Plus, since heat rises, it could damage the TV.

OK, what do you think Jill watches on that TV?  I think it's situated right across from the bed.  Something to keep her occupied while Shrek goes to town doing his best to bring on the next blessing?  Porn?  Probably not.  More likely a montage of pictures of Jill.  Posing in her scandelous bathing suit superimposed on top of adoring crowds, maybe?  That'll get her going.  "Oh yes!  Oh yes!  Oh my God, yessss!"

4 pictures, first is a video:

I see she praises her boys and their strong backs, but the second "horse" in the video is one of the girls, who looks about ready to snap in half. No praise for her?

this seems to be a not recent video - the new "prayers answered" long table is shown, but with an assortment of chairs around it. pushed up against a sofa. certainly not the room they showed in the celebrating the grift of the table

There's a little electric heater in J & D's bedroom and a big one in the dining room. What else does this place have for heat and who gets any?

The video of Sam on his knees with the strap in his mouth makes me curious what Jill and Shrek do during their playtime. Not really. Never mind.

boys bedroom also had baseboard heating they placed a dresser in front of it.

the big room with the checkerboard floor showed no heat source in the listing pics and the kitchen area had an industrial type overhead heat source

The Rod's new home is a converted barn.  Whatever heating system placed in by the original owners is going to be inadequate for a family living in there full-time.  Even with David's modifications, the Rods will be freezing come January.  Whatever insulation is going to be minimal and someone's room has a huge barn door in it.  Also the floors are barn floors, it's going to be frigid.  Jill and David can try to supplement with space heaters, but that just increases the risk of a fire.  Whenever I see pictures of the new home, all I see is a deathtrap.  David is not an electician, Jill has stuffed the place to the brim with flammable shit, at least most of the bedrooms have windows.  That nursery though.

Someone on FJ figured out that they took out the barn door. It became the window in the lovenest.

That industrial heater is huge. It could drown out bad piano playing, Tim's singing, and Jill's harping on the fate of evil sinners. It won't heat through walls, however, and I doubt the bathrooms got any of the baseboard.

This place is a deathtrap @Ohiopirate02 with tacky Jill's tacky flammable decorations covering every surface. The only good thing is that the rooms are on ground floor, so the speedy may be saved. I hope there's exit lightening like in airplanes.

The Rods must have desperately needed to get out of West Virginia to consider this dump. They had an actual human-style house they gave up. There's a story here.

it wasn't even a barn door - worse it was a garage door with the overhead track and all. plus there were 2 outside access doors.  i think

so that checkerboard floor area has become the love nest, a bathroom, a nursery and not sure what else.

also the love nest has a new bed from the one they had at the old house

They've had a dog for a while.  They once drove off in the RV and left it at a service station while on a grifting tour of churches.  Jill hasn't posted anything about it in quite a while, though, so maybe it died, maybe it ran away.  I would.

Yes, poor Snuggles is still alive. Well? That's another story...

Snuggles must hang around David, the only one with excess food to feed the poor animal.

The old bedroom looks like it belongs to somebody's great grandmother, but it has more open space than the barndominium's love nest does. Jill didn't have her trashy decorating style up to speed yet.

Never mind. The photo of the old house has a realtor's stamp on it. I bet the agent made Jill cart the tons of crap out of that house so someone would even think about coming in to look at the place.

Didn't Jill more or less grift the old house? Does anyone know the story of how they got it?

They couldn't have owed much if anything on it to have enough money to buy the barndo, move the printing press, move themselves, do the renovations (cough), buy new furniture, and decorate (cough, cough.) I bet Nurie's wedding is coming out of the house sale too.

I think with all those kids, whichever ones aren't adults, they got several thousand in a stimulus payment.

I'm wondering if the adult kids were required to hand over their payments to Momma. That would be my guess.I bet Nurie has to pay for what she can of the wedding with it

Assuming the adult kids filed their own taxes. I would assume they didn’t. My mom claimed me all the way until I started law school even if I had a part time job.

so they would have had 3 over 18 at tax time since which ever not nurie just turned 18 this week.

tim maybe had to file federal and WI -

surely nurie and the other not nurie had no reason to file since they had no income and mommy and daddy could claim full support of them

I am still waiting for the beauty shop chair and mirror from the old house to appear in the new house

Wow, that is one fugly house.  I thought it looked like a houseboat in the first picture.

What's the grifting story? Did anyone ever confirm it?

The grifting story came from Jill, so that's confirmation enough for me.  It was on their blog a few years ago, but it seems like Jill purged everything prior to April 2019. and I can't find it now  The Rods had been living in New York state and David got into a disagreement with the hierarchy at the church they were attending there and I believe they were asked to leave.  I think he decided they weren't strict enough and called on God to smite them or something.  Apparently, there were no other churches holy enough in the vicinity (or word of what a PITA David is got out) and they decided not to stay there.

Anyway, they moved to WVA supposedly because Jill's parents live there.  They were living in the RV for months and Jill posted multiple times lamenting that they couldn't find a house large enough for all of them, that they were poor ministers because David made no money on the tracts, they couldn't afford much, blah, blah, blah.  She kept praying to Jesus that some kind Christian soul would help them find a place to live and give it to them for free.  Eventually, her prayers were answered when some kind soul gifted them with the WVa house.  At least, that is what Jill said in the post when they moved in.  She didn't give details, no specifics; but her post certainly seemed to indicate that they paid nothing for that house.

Chelsy had the baby! Another boy!

From her blog:

"We are so overjoyed to announce the safe  arrival of our second son, Elliot Rex Maxwell! He was born safely at home at 3:30am today, June 19th, and he tipped the scales at 8lb  4oz and 22inch long. I am doing great and have been absolutely loving getting to rest at HOME today with my guys!
It was  a whirlwind labor—hard and intense but fast compared to Axton’s! I can’t wait to share more with you all. Thankyou so so much to each and every one of you who were praying for us! The prayers were truly felt and Jesus answered in such a beautiful way. I am so grateful for the redeeming grace of little Elliot’s story!

Stay tuned for more to come!

Chels"

He is undoubtably named for Jim Elliot and his wife Elisabeth although it doesn't say it. . Jim Elliot inspired Ben and Jessa to name their son Spurgeon Elliot. He was a Christian missionary, who died trying to convert indigenous people in South America in the 1950s.

Chelsy's older son is named Axton.

Wow, their old house was so outdated - some paint and new handles on the cabinets would have made a huge difference (and removing those wooden valances over the windows)

But damn, the new place is about 1000 square feet smaller - almost 1/2 the size of the old place. Only 1300 sq ft is listed as living area, the other 1200 sq ft is the workshop

There are places that have occupancy codes for square footage per person in the house, and for sleeping areas (the ranges I've seen vary from 70-50  per person for sleeping areas and 70-100 for overall space). Their current place has about 10 sq ft per person...and that was before David added bathrooms and partitions. That is "1900 NYC tenement" levels of space. There is no way he has pulled the proper permits or had any inspections on his improvements either.

I am also positive that they are on a septic system that far in the country and that system that is in no way equipped to handle two more bathrooms and 15 people unless they are having it pumped every 4-6 months.

ETA: Did anyone notice that there is a photo of Jill taped to David's computer monitor? It's not like he left the house to go to work. I guess to keep him accountable from googling anything.

I looked at the listing - it's propane, which we have too. It's cheaper than electric, but for a house that size, with little or no insulation, it will still cost a bit. They are also on well and septic, so there is some savings there (as long as nothing goes wrong and they schedule regular maintenance...but I have no faith that they will do that)

The barndo is 1000 sq. ft. smaller than the WVA house? The old place looked crowded enough. It had central air, though. The print shop sure takes up a lot of space for an enterprise that doesn't feed their army of kids.

I have to wonder if someone's children or grandchildren got cheated out of the WVA property or proceeds because Jill weaseled her name onto the deed. I also wonder why the Jill and Shrek think they're better off crammed into a very small commercial space with sketchy heating, wiring, construction, and an overloaded septic system.

It sounds like they really, really wanted/needed to get out of town. Jill should share the story. I'm sure the Rods were being persecuted most unfairly.

The Zillow pictures of the old house are almost unrecognizable without all the clutter. At least there the kids had more room to spread out and a nice yard. The barn is cramped, filled with stuff, and the outside doesn't look very inviting.

If a realtor showed me the W Va house I would have taken one step inside and then turned a walked right out.
That place needs staging badly. The 1980’s Grandma Chic style is a huge deterrent. Even though I can generally visualize a space when touring homes, all of that outdated design is a LOT to overcome.  Add to that the “curb appeal” (there is none) and you have a huge albatross to unload.
