Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Option 1 might be a little more substantive, then. .... Depending on how hard the Tennessee tests are ....Maybe nobody ever fails them!

Poor Tabbie.

I have no idea what the purpose of an umbrella school really is. I assume it's a state monitor of things and they chose to do it private? California is like that also.   In NY, I reported directly to my school district which was another set of problems. Let's not go there.

I mean, at least Tabitha is doing something productive.  What else can we say? She is out of the house...

Yeah, I expect it's a way to allow religious homeschoolers to have a recourse when they have problems.....BUT their recourse only has to operate under the much looser rules that the state applies to religiously-based schools rather than under the public school regs.

Just as with the periodic state achievement tests, the umbrella school probably only gets involved when there's some kind of problem.....

Still, as you say, she gets out of the house. And she can see it as a job with a purpose she cares about -- helping Christian homeschoolers manage.

So it's something.

If Timothy felt persecuted at Moody, what's he going to feel at a secular college? If he manages to pass without getting in over his head, I'd be surprised. But it sounds like they found a group (or think they found) that will baby Tim and drag him through, while he grifts for money to buy gifts for his mama.

As for the KJV thing, alot believe it's the most accurate translation, truest to the original text of the Bible. I'm sure the Rodriguii think they're more holy and perfect because they read that version.

Could someone, pretty please, post Moody's fee chart on Jill's FB page and then quickly screen shot it?

And the poor JillR family, they're running out of "good places" to go. Through no fault of their own of course.

I fear that Tim will sadly end up back in the RV flying paper airplanes. Jill and David have built failure into their kids' lives through lack of education and Jill's narcissistic neediness and control. The Rodrigues Family High School doesn't prepare these kids to work at a college level, and the parents can't/won't pay for years of school and aviation training anyway, no matter how good the deal.

I feel so very sorry for the new set of professors and administrators who will have to deal with the these Plexus-soaked fruitcakes.

Jill is so full of shit that her eyes are brown. I personally looked up tuition and curriculum information on Moody's website when they announced that Tim would be matriculating there. You'd think that normal parents would look up this information straight away when Tim expressed an interest in the school.

As for the bible story, not buying it, Jill. As others have said, Rodriguii are always victims of the big, bad secular world. They don't take ownership of ANYTHING.

Tim probably never saw that chart because he’s not allowed to use the internet. It might turn him gay or make him look at porn. Jill and David certainly should have been able to find it, though.

The Maxwells have a speaking engagement in Alabama. They seem to do one speaking engagement per year. (They haven't toured all over for many years.) Last year Sarah stayed home to help babysit, hopefully by choice.

Wow, you have hit the nail on the head with this! Tim may have never (or barely) been on Moody Aviation's website! And his parents may have told Tim to send an email or even letter to get the info and then had the attitude that it was Tim's responsibility to figure it out (and God would provide) - yet they wouldn't give Tim the resources he needed (Internet access) to succeed.

Maybe.  It would be weird that they stated she was due in December though.  I'm just wondering where they will put this new baby.  Is the house a two bedroom?

Poor Timmy. I didn't think he would hack it at Moody Aviation, though I wished he'd succeed to get away from his parents. I doubt Wisconsin will work out for him much better. I hope he manages to stay away from his toxic parents, regardless. Run, Tim, run!

It's true.  I just checked out the Bates Family Blog after seeing @RedheadZombie post & it's  on there. She's due in December.  Unbelievable considering the clotting problem she has.  Not to mention the size of their cottage type house.

Well said. He's enrolling in a regular secular technical training school (seems generally like a community college). Nobody's going to care what edition of the Bible he reads or how often he praises Jesus or that he wants to be an aviation mechanic for Jesus. He's going to have to pass his coursework regardless.

And I'd bet a steak dinner that absolutely any turbulence Tim experiences at that school - including his own academic shortcomings - will be fodder for hysterical overwrought Jill R. blog posts about how Christians are persecuted by Satan's minions. Because as you guys have pointed out, nothing is ever the Rodriguii's own fault, it's all down to Satan.

Yeah, I think he's liable to have a hard time of it at the secular school.

I knew sheltered, homeschooled fundies at a Christian college who could barely tolerate the "sinfulness" they encountered. It caused some of them to ultimately break out of the box their parents put them in, and it caused others to retreat further into their own thinking.

So, I think this has the potential of being a wonderful experience for him because it might cause him to question his upbringing, but I suspect it could just as easily cause him a lot of emotional distress and make him run back to the family. A lot of it probably depends on his own personality.

Someone pointed out that Erin has a history of having her babies early. And they probably are due in early December if they're announcing now. So this baby could easily be born in November like a lot of other babies.

Wow, Chad and Erin are idiots. They're still renting, still stuffed into a tiny cottage and he works for himself, so their income fluctuates. Four kids under four is absolutely ridiculous, to say nothing of the risks Erin's taking with her health.

I'm assuming Alyssa's announcement will be next...

It's four kids- four and under not four kids under four. Apparently her oldest is four years old.

As for Erin and Chad, they both grew up in fundie quiverfull families and are too indoctrinated to leave the cult.

(Erin made a statement saying she "no longer follows Gothard" but she is still part of IBLP.  IBLP's is Gothard's former group and they kicked Gothard out. So Erin can be IBLP and not following Gothard. )

What is Erin going to do?  Hang the baby from the ceiling?  The room is already overcrowded with 3 kids.

They are going to have to move.

And has anyone seen evidence of the dog or goats lately?  I wonder if they were quietly disposed of.  If they got rid of the dog because it was "inconvenient" I hope they burn in hell.  I just had to say goodbye to my beloved 16 year old Westie last weekend and I have no patience for people who treat pets as disposable possessions. This is just speculation on my part.

Obviously I don't get it.  Why another baby so soon, especially with her clotting issues?

I am going to be non-politically correct  for a second, but I truly believe the whole "we will joyfully accept every baby the Lord chooses to send us" philosophy has a second purpose, which is "we need to out-breed the brown people".  Of course none of them would ever admit it, but there is a real fear that soon they will be outnumbered by heathen Catholics. The general population of birth control using Americans aren't reproducing enough so the fundies are taking it upon themselves to fill the gap.

Well, true. But, as we know, we can parse that out a little further to get the true result!

They kicked Gothard the person out -- in the sense that they don't (usually) want him to be seen hanging around them. (although he was seen with them in their recruiting trip to Australia last year with the Duggars, as I recall...).

But they absolutely did not kick out what most of the world would term "following Gothard."

Because every single thing they do -- still do -- is totally 100 percent based on the drivel that Gothard preached for the past 50-plus years..... And on nothing else. They have no gurus but Gothard. And they continue to push and follow his many (Scientology-level-nutso and manipulative) words and ideas to the letter....And they follow nothing else!

So.....Erin and the rest of the Bates family (and all the other ATI/IBLPers who no doubt say the exact same thing about "not following Gothard"): Liar liar pants (or mid-calf-length denim skirt) on fire.

"Hey! My super-godly, super-moral religious cult is entirely made up of big fat lying hypocrites, of whom I am one! Be like us so you don't go to hell!"

What I think would be hilarious is for JillR to call whatever school Tim is at and asking for grade info or a progress report only to be told due to FERPA regulations I cannot discuss this with you.  Or Tim decides his parents are crazy and won't tell them where he lives so the school says again  due to FERPA regulations I cannot discuss this with you.  When I was an undergrad advisor I loved saying this to way over involved parents.

Do these idiots have health insurance or are the tax payers in Tennessee on the hook for her medical care?  If she does those shots for clotting they are SUPER expensive.

Did I ever tell you guys that I have met the Maxwells twice?

Both at homeschool conventions.  I spoke to the oldest Maxwell girl for about 15 minutes, just chatting.

My friend wanted to speak to Teri. I didn't know who she was way back then...this was WAY back.  So I stood there while my friend and Teri talked. I'm quiet by nature and just listened.

My husband met Steve at some event, many years ago.

I'm guessing the tax payers of Tennessee. I just Googled the average monthly cost of private health insurance for a family of five and it was $1100. No way Chad is making that kind of money with his construction business.

I think probably Erin and the kids are on Medicaid, but Chad probably is not covered by any insurance.  If anything happens to him, I guess they would use the hospital as a "free clinic."

BUB is on a tiny network and pulls in roughly 250k viewers an episode. If a generous guesstimate for Bin and Jessa is 40k a year with a million viewers, the Bateseseses' marrieds would average way less. To top it off, Chad is self-employed, so he can do a lot of clever accounting to stay below the income limits. They don't own a home or any property, so there's no major assets on public record. I could easily see them working the numbers to qualify, even though they aren't technically poor.

They're probably on TennCare -- the Medicaid expansion, basically, and they probably have an income that requires they pay premiums, but discounted ones.

And I guess if you don't like the look of the discounted premiums either, then you can try to hide most of your income. That might be easy in their case, since he's self-employed. But whether they do it or not depends on their values, obviously. If they're like her parents' values, then they probably do cheat.

Otherwise, they can get affordable but not free insurance and be decent citizens.

Due diligence definitely wasn't done. Someone on the FB thread asked if Tim attended the financial meetings, but the student hadn't responded when I read a couple of hours ago. Responsibility lies mostly with him if he was actually going to pay his way through school. However, that doesn't absolve Jill and Chimpy. They should have looked at the damn website the moment Tim made his intention to attend Moody known.
