Since my husband has been complaining to me that today is Tuesday, I sent him one of the gifs that shows Sam saying "Yesterday was Tuesday, but today is Tuesday, too!"  He replied that if tomorrow is also Tuesday, he'll have to stake someone, preferably someone having strawberry syrup.

Tuesday's Gone

I've been watching various things on youtube this evening and one of my favourite memorable moments from Supernatural is Death's intro.

The whole scene with "Oh Death" playing in the background and the fact that he's in a Cadillac DeVille, and then the walk down the street.  I just love it.

I won't stop watching but I do miss the fact that Supernatural used to have these little moments.

So I'm thinking maybe this question should go here...?! If so:

I know we all have different senses of humor---and about which comedy is and isn't successful on this show!---so I thought it might be fun to challenge ourselves to pick our 10-15 funniest episodes of the series. Warning: I have a few unpopular selections :)

We're about to finish up the Types of Characters challenge in the Survivor Game.  Any chance you'd be willing to let us turn this into a game? As soon as "humans" is over, we could all nominate 10-15 comedy episodes, consolidate lists and then do a survivor run off.  What do you think?

Old thread, I know, but it's been raining all day and we're taking a break from our rewatch.

My very favorite line is delivered by (a very dry) Cas, in The Monster At the End of This Book

"You should have seen Luke."

Perfect delivery. The first time I heard it I swear I was going to pee myself!  Hell, I'm even laughing now!

Mick wanted me to post his favorite, so here it is:

Castiel: [while watching porn] That's very complex
Dean Winchester: M-hm
Castiel: If the pizza man truly loves this babysitter, why does he keep slapping her rear?
[pauses]
Castiel: Perhaps she's done something wrong.
Dean Winchester: You're watching porn? Why?
Castiel: It was there.
Dean Winchester: You don't watch porn in a room full of dudes. And... you don't talk about it. Just turn it off.
Castiel: [Looks between his legs]
Dean Winchester: Oh, now he's got a boner

Samuel Campbell: Is this what you boys do? Sit around and watch porno's with angels?
Castiel: I'm not supposed to talk about it.

I started watching from the "Pilot" and enjoyed how we learned more about each character (personality, motivations, general backstory, likes/dislikes, etc) in each of the early MOTW episodes. But what really hooked me was the initial myth-arc of trying to find their missing father and solve the mystery behind their mother's death which was later intertwined with how/why of Sam's visions. There was purpose to the storytelling; there was humor and tragedy; there was real drama that evolved from the story (Faith) instead of manufactured angst of brotherly fighting. They were heroes then, saving people, hunting things, the family business. There was, IMO, Kim Manners who kept a close eye on everything, more so even than Kripke. RIP Kim.  Nonetheless, I'll be here until the end even if the show isn't what it used to be.

So when, how and why did you guys first start liking this show?! I know that for some of us that feels like a VERY long time ago, but I wanted to dredge up some good memories :)

Mick and I started from the first episode. We both liked it immediately, but for me  Provenance clinched it. It first aired when a "Haunted Painting" was all the rage on e-bay. I don't know if you guys remember that painting, but it was creepy as hell!

I liked the Pilot, especially the brothers acting like real brothers, but it was "Dead in the Water" that made me go...yep, I'm mainlining this NOW.

Oddly enough, it wasn't until Sam reacted to waking up next to Fake Jess in S5 "Free to Be You and Me" that I REALLY felt Sam's loss for Jess.  In S1 and S2, the fridging was too quick for me to feel the pain.  But when he said how much he missed her in S5.... man, that got to me.

Dead in the Water and Phantom Traveler got me to continue to watch s1 but Home and Asylum really piqued my interest in the characters. However most of s1 was a struggle for me, but In My Time Of Dying really was the hook for me during my Netflix binge watch back in 2013. I thought it was a ballsy move to kill John after saving him.

I started watching the show while S6 was airing. I started with the Pilot, as I am a bit of a purist about these things. I was immediately interested in it due to the look and feel of the show and these two guys really felt like brothers from the jump, but I don't think it was until S2 that I became somewhat devoted to the show. I remember finishing S1 and thinking it was an interesting show, but not sure if I wanted to stick it out...In My Time of Dying changed all that for me. I don't think I realized my devotion for the show until What Is and What Should Never Be, though.

Rowena: "They shall know us far and wide, and fear us, and we shall be known as the Mega Coven.  Mega Coven, see because it's greater than Grand Coven, so it's not Grand it's Mega, it's the Mega Coven.  I don't think you're following."

Rowena: "Our people deserve a renaissance.  And I'm looking for the best of the best to leave the Grand Coven, and join me in the Mega Coven.  You heard what I said right?"

The whole scene in the girl's bedroom is hysterical.

Dean: And a hot shower does wonders.

Sam: Reeeal deep scrub. *motions with his hands* Purify.

Mom: For... Maddie?

Dean: The whole family. Just get the whole gang in there. You know, the family that showers together...

Sully: Pull up. Pull. UP.

Metaron: I know I'm a disappointment, but you're wrong about humanity.  They are your greatest creation, because they're better than you are.  Sure they're weak, and they cheat, and steal, and destroy, and disappoint.  But they also give, and create, and they sing and dance, and love.  And above all, they never give up, but you do!"

This most recent episode gave us one of the best endings this show has ever done, and Curtis Armstrong gave one of the best single episode performances this show has seen.

From the Media thread...

I have a feeling that my top 40 would likely be equally annoying to others - heh. And also difficult for me to make. You would think choosing a top 40 would be easy, but I think I would have to kick off quite a few favorites to even get it down to 40... which in a way says a lot about how much I love this show.

I say we do it...top 40 everyone! "This is gonna be so much fun!" ;)

My list will be heavily S1-S3...I think, lets see how it pans out.

Lucky - For me this was fun, but definitely not easy.

Okay, here's mine, DDD. I had to leave out quite a few episodes (and I even cheated by including a few honorable mentions). And it was still pretty hard for me to decide near the end. I'll probably find out I missed something, but I did the best I could. The list is fairly in order starting from my favorites and going down, but as the list goes on, likely the positions could change some...

  1. Mystery Spot
  2. Point of No Return
  3. Fanfiction
  4. What Is and What Should Never Be
  5. Slash Fiction
  6. Changing Channels
  7. The Man Who Knew Too Much
  8. A Very Supernatural Christmas
  9. In My Time of Dying
  10. Safe House
  11. Baby
  12. Hollywood Babylon
  13. Nightshifter
  14. Weekend At Bobby’s
  15. It’s A Terrible Life
  16. The French Mistake
  17. Don’t Call Me Shurley
  18. Just My Imagination
  19. Faith
  20. Hello Cruel World
  21. Tall Tales
  22. The End
  23. Scarecrow
  24. Frontierland
  25. The Real Ghostbusters
  26. Born Under A Bad Sign
  27. Time After Time…
  28. Bad Day At Black Rock
  29. Dark Side of the Moon
  30. Soul Survivor
  31. My Bloody Valentine
  32. The Monster at the End of This Book
  33. Devil’s Trap
  34. The Werther Project
  35. All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1
  36. Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie
  37. Everybody Hates Hitler
  38. The Song Remains the Sam
  39. Book of the Damned
  40. Ghostfacers

Honorable Mentions: First Born, Repo Man, Mommy Dearest, The Man Who Would Be King, Meet the New Boss, I Believe the Children Are Our Future, Clap Your Hands If You Believe, The Benders, Meta Fiction, Sam, Interrupted, and Two Minutes to Midnight (for a total of a top 50 + 1).

I think the most surprising thing for me was how many mid season episodes ended up being in here - which actually tracks with the seasons I enjoyed - but I expected that when I got down to it, more early season episodes would win out, but that's not what happened here.

Cheater!!! Hee!

I was really surprised how easy it was for me. In past when we've done this, I've had a really hard time, but usually we're naming top 10-20...40 wasn't too hard, in the end. Especially since there's only a couple episodes in the last couple years that has truly engaged me like the show did back in the day.

@Diane, I love some of the underrated episodes you included--Everybody Loves a Clown and No Exit were 41 and 42 on my list and Wendigo wasn't too far behind.

Anyway, it's interesting how we all differ, but yet are the same, too! ;)

I am such a new watcher, so it's always interesting to me to see what the favorites are of those who have watched the show for a significantly longer period of time than myself. I binged the first 9 1/2 seasons and watched the end of season 10 live. I love some of the quieter episodes, I still had to leave some out.

Oh, I love some of the quieter ones too...Jump the Shark was also a hard one for me to cut. That's why I've been so fond of Robert Berens' episodes. But, I love the kooky ones the best. This show has done kooky like no other. ;)

Dean: "I just came by for tea and a beating..."

Dean: "What a waste."-in response to Lady Deadeyes erroneous belief that the brothers never a read a book in the MOL library. Jensen's delivery of so many lines(like this one) in this episode really brought back S1 vibes for me.

Dean: "Turns out this ape did read a book or two"-but this one was the big winner of the night, IMO.

Great stuff for Crowley and Rowena in this one, too.

It's interesting. I can see what you mean but I hope they don't go back to that Dean because I did not like him very much. But here I thought he put a different spin on the snark. A more mature sass tinged with a lot of weariness.

Jody: "Are you?"
Sam: "He's more of an animated Japanese erotica chick."

Sam: "Tell her what?"
Dean: "It's Jody man."
Sam: "Dude, be proud of your hobbies, makes you who you are."
