To be fair, some people feel Days did that regarding Chad and Abby when BF's Chad first came to town. They rewrote a lot of Chabby's history and then forced it in the narrative with other characters on repeat about it as true when it didn't even take a long term Days viewer to remember how things actually played out with CD leaving in 2013 and BF arriving in 2014. TPTB likely figured that it "worked" for Chabby so why not Chabi?

I so agree.  People keep talking about the "revisionist" history with Chad and Gabi, but Chad and Abby at least to me were never an epic love story.  I do agree that they very much "attempted" a reset with the Chad and Abby relationship once Billy Flynn came on as Chad.  If anything Melanie was the love of Chad's life not Abby.  Before Billy's Chad, Chad and Abby had a failed relationship because he schemed and faked an illness just so he can sleep with Abby to "win" her in the triangle with Cameron.

I don't mind Chad and Abby, but this idea that they were always destined to be some next generation super couple is just not true.  I think TPTB lucked up when they found Billy and decided to explore another go around with Abby, probably because they had a small history, they needed another member for a triangle with Ben, and Chad is one of the only eligible men left that Abby isn't related too, or has schemed to get.

At least Chad and Gabby have always had that "wrong place/wrong time" push and pull to their relationship since they were part of the teen set.

This to me is like the "epic love story of Nicole and Daniel" when in reality they had a small failed relationship in the past and were attempting to build a new relationship.  Daniel had much more prominent relationships with Chloe and Jennifer than anything brief he had with Nicole.

The article says that this time, the actors are talking about not crossing the picket lines.

I'm all for solidarity but soap actors have to know that if they don't cross the lines, then it will be the death blow for daytime soaps.

Maybe not the direct cause, but after the 2008 strike, four soaps went under: AMC, ATWT, GL, and OLTL. I do think this strike could truly be the end of daytime dramas as they currently exist.

I think the big difference is that even though original Chabby weren't a huge romance, they did share significant screen time.  We saw them together.  Their just making up backstory for Chabi.  I mean why didn't they use the fact that they do have some history a bit with original Gabi, and then the whole stalker thing with Camila.  They could have had it as two used to be friends turned enemies healed old wounds and fell in love.  Instead apparently they were besties in high school and baseball fans for life, all made up things we know weren't true.  It's silly to make up stuff when you had actual things to work with.  Which is what I think Billy meant.  The only foundation Chabi have now is fake, because they didn't bother to use real history.

When have they ever tried to play Chad and Gabi as a romance outside of a hot minute when she was introduced?  Even after Mia left the show was all in on Will/Gabi, ethey never even tried to play that as a triangle.  Chad was busy finding out his mom slept with Stefano.

Casey Deidrick's most significant romance was with Abby.  He wasn't ever really with Mia, and that actress left after a year.  THe thing with Melanie was 9 months.  I can see where some would see her as his most significant though.  It was rushed but they played it like he loved her more than anything until she left and a month later he was onto Abby again.  All together Abby and Chad were linked for two years during Casey's tenure, and the entire time during Billy's.

The "wrong place/wrong time" meaning that there were two instances where there was interest from one or the other in being in a relationship.  When they were in high school, I would say that Chad wanted Gabby more, and when they were older and Gabby was scheming she wanted Chad more.  I also had the impression that if Chad wasn't with Melanie at the time he would of definitely been with Gabby back then.  Hence the "wrong place/wrong time".

I think you remember the Chad/Abby relationship much better than I do.  I guess I don't even register that they were together that long.  I do still stand by the fact that I think the interest in them as this "great love of each other's life" was introduced because of Billy taking over as Chad.  Personally I just never got that vibe from them.  Maybe it is all the recasts we have had with the characters over the years it is hard to remember all the timelines and storylines.

WRT Chad/Melanie/Abby/Gabby

Melanie and Dario were together (he left for SA). Chad and Abby were together...Chad and Melanie got taken hostage or something (by the guys who were running the illegal gambling ring on Sonny/Chad/Will's Salem U sports website) and they kissed. Austin helped rescue everyone and Abby got her psycho feels for him. Chad/Abby broke up and Abby did her gas lighting of Austin, etc... Chad and Melanie got together. Gabby wanted Chad. Gabby hired Andrew, Andrew kidnapped Melanie...and the rest is history.

Something like that...I over simplified.

Certainly onscreen we've seen Gabi interested in Chad.  Never have we seen the opposite.  Maybe during the one date they went on with old Gabi, but even then most of Chad's scenes were centered on Mia and he even went on that date because he couldn't go with Mia.  She was with Will, so he couldn't have her so he tried to move on.

As a fan of Abby, yeah I remember.  I agree that Chabby 2.0 was played way bigger, but only after fans started responding to the pairing.  That version of Chabby really only got big about 6 months or so after Billy started.  At first they were played just as Chabby 1.0, with very little interesting writing.  There for awhile some even thought they were going full on with Chad/Jordan.  Once they got rid of Jordan and had Chad pining after Abby fans responded, and Chabby 2.0 took off.  What's makes that different to Chabi is that they didn't have to completely make up things like baseball and the fact that Chabi were ever that close, because they weren't, Camila rarely had scenes with Casey outside the stalker story.  Yeah Chabby 1.0 weren't great love, but at that time they were young twenties, they moved on, dated other people, and then were brought back together, like sometimes happens in real life, we saw all that.

They were in their young twenties when Chad returned since he was gone about a year. The difference IMO is BF doesn't look like a guy in his 20s so as with many aging aspects on the show, time is played with loosely. I still side eye Claire's SORASing since we saw teen Sami try to sell Belle so how old does that make the Brady twins then if Claire is 18 and Belle had her in her 20s?

Anywho, I think it was lazy of Days to rewrite Chabi's history since there's more drama in them moving past their actual messy history but since Days decided to rewrite what Chabby's relationship was just 2 years ago, why not for Chabi? How it played out, Chad wanted Melanie more than Abby and Abby wanted Cameron more than Chad. Chad and Abby were friends & then they dated but it wasn't a great passion nor great love by any stretch.  And then that silly "purity ring" story where Abby played the Cam and Chad off each other while all the time saying it was Cam she really wanted, so Chad coming back town with a completely retconned version of what we saw play out I always thought was pure revisionist BS and it killed my interest immediately.  I never got why Days couldn't have Chad come back to town and build things up from actual history but instead decided to rewrite the depth of their relationship from like two years prior to suit an agenda that Days continues to push. It's so cheapening but that's how Days rolls.

Thank you for explaining this better than I could.

This is why I never bought Chad/Abby as the next super couple.  I never got this eternal love vibe from them.  As you said, Chad wanted Melanie over Abby during their first go round and Abby preferred Cameron over Chad during their second go round.

Not that I mind them as a couple, but you make an excellent point about their history being "modified" just as much as Chad/Gabi.

Brian Dattilo's 17-year-old son Gabriel, even though he's only 17, is becoming a high fashion model.  He modeled at Fashion Week and has been getting more work in Southern California.  Although Brian is pretty short, Gabriel is 6 foot 2, at 17.

I could only find some really small pictures of him.  Here's one.

It's an absolute joke that Mansi won an Emmy with her one note performance but I guess this is what the voters wanted.  This just proves that you can't account for taste or the lack of.

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.  She wasn't perfect, tended to over-act when subtlety was a better choice.  Yet she did have a few great scenes as she exited the show, and often that's all it takes to take home the Emmy.  Plus, Mansi is lightyears better than the wet noodle they hired to replace her.

Kate Mansi was the only winner for Days.

A dead squirrel in the road, run down, backed over, and then rode over again has more talent in its flattened tail than Mansi does on her best days.

The Daytime Emmys aren't a joke, they're a TMZ abomination.  Seriously, why the hell demean the few soap survivors this way?

I saw this morning that she won and I wish the Emmy voters had received something showing her same expression no matter the scene.  In love, scared, giving birth, etc.  She always has the same self-serving expression.  I guess that was the one day that would appeal to Emmy voters if they hadn't seen more from her.

A good reel can definitely give the impression the overall performance is good when that's not always the case. I think that's what happened with Kate Mansi.

That's terrible news for the show. I wonder if the ratings will fall to 1.2 - 1.3 from current 1.4 - 1.5? Dena's latest stint has been a catastrophe with an assist from Josh Griffith for his dark version of Days.

Many times over the years I scratch my head when certain people win these awards, then I watch all the reels submitted and it makes sense. Kate was smart and submitted pretty compelling scenes where she did a great job. And tbh while I didn't care for her I would take Kate back if it meant ditching Marci Miller who I still can't warm up to. I'm more annoyed that Billy Flynn didnt win and I thought the scenes he submitted were amazing.

Just read the list of all the soap Emmy winners, and frankly I'm too jaded to be surprised.  I figured the horrible Kate Mansi would win, that the horrible General Hospital would win, that the horrible Bryan Craig would win.  It is par for the course these days to coddle and reward vapid blowhards.  It's so damn sad that this once fun, interesting genre has been reduced to utter crap.

I don't care for Bryan Craig as a person, but I thought he his exit story was pretty good (and I thought GH did much better with the mental health angle than Days ever has).  Which soap do people wish had won instead of GH?  Maybe one of the CBS soaps was more deserving, but I only keep up with Days and GH, and last year GH was miles better IMO.

I think the hard thing is for those who watch on a daily & yearly basis, to see so many "lackluster" (I'm being kind) actors end up with maybe one or a small handful of scenes that are actually pretty decent, get awards over others who may have had crappy writing but did a consistently good- even great job, day after day, scene after scene, spinning the bad writing into watchable moments.

As far as which soap should have won ...good question. Not one of them today even reach the "bad days" of the "glory days of soaps" (sadly long gone). I just take the good parts with the actors I really like & enjoy what I can, trying to forget the OOC or OTT way the "history amnesiac" writers spin their tales.

With that being said, GH was as good as any...maybe Y&R...B&B had its moment, DOOL is sadly floundering (thanks , Dena). But here I am, still watching all of them..thanks to my trusty DVR & FF button. ;-)

I would have given it to B&B.  It had some crappy stories but overall was far better than the other three.  Rena Sofer, Don Diamont, KKL, Heather Tom, Anna Maria Horsford, Obba Batatunde, Ashleigh Brewer and John McCook are always excellent.  Also notable was Felisha Cooper and Piersode Fode.  She was so cute and charming (TIIC stupidly let her go) and he was somehow able to get viewers to put aside a character-destroying story a few months before.

While I normally think BC is awful, his clip was pretty good. I'm going to "allow" that he has grown as an actor over the years...since he and KiKi showed up, anyway. Barely. that's all I'll give, though b/c I don't like him as a person nor do I particularly think he's talented.

This is 100% a shill for his stupid MLM schemes. It's a shame how he uses fans this way. I can't stand his voice any more. He used to have 1. Freddie 2. Sonny 3. MLM. Now the MLM crap even shines through as Sonny. I dont get his 2014 Emmy, either. the scene he submitted was subpar compared to the other submissions. I don't think he can act, anyway.

He likes dogs, so he can't be all bad.  :-)

It's funny because his acting was so much better when he first appeared on GH.  He and Maura West had wicked chemistry and he played a bitter second son in a believable and sometimes heartbreaking way.  But then they put his character squarely in Sonny's orbit and BC quickly began to emulate MB and the worst of his tics (stutterbarking, mumbling, constantly rubbing his face and wagging his head, etc.).  It was all downhill after that.

Okay, I'll give him credit for the dog liking, too. LOL

I disagree about when he first came on. I hated that whiny crap. OMG the scene where Franco let it spill to Morgan that Michael was raped? WHINY PETULANT CHILD..."mikey, why didn't you tell me?" AARGH.

But yes, he and Maura did have wicked chemistry. Better than he and KiKi

I don't remember BC being whiny except at the very beginning with KA's Kiki (when they were living at the Q'sboathouse), but I was probably not paying attention.

Wonder what channel would give FS and his girlfriend a platform to sell their product?  So odd.  Even if it weren't for that, he doesn't seem interesting enough for a reality show.
