Of course, when JB and M were young, they didn't have 18 siblings, didn't have JB and M as parents, hadn't been forced through Gothard's Garden of Torment for Children and Young People, hadn't been blanket trained and whipped with plumbing materials,  went to high school, wore regular fairly fashionable clothes (according to their lights), got to be cheerleaders, got to date as teenagers, got to wear bikinis, didn't have to take an "accountability partner" everywhere, got to pick out and marry the person they chose not the person some old religion-and-personal-dynasty-obsessed-fart chose for them, weren't burdened by thinking that other people would insist they have 45 children while not ever working for anybody but their chintzy father, and never needed to worry that they might not have sex or even hold hands with an interesting person before they were 30....

No wonder they looked happy and their kids don't. 😁

JB was living his dream and still is. His kids never even got to have a dream.

Well, #17 (or so) on that 150 year old list was about not giving much money to your children. Sure, get a house to live in for a while but don't pay your kids for appearing on a show about their fucking generation.

I mean, controlling the amount of available resources a given person has is also a classic way of keeping people in cults.  If one of the kids suddenly decided they wanted out, and were not already weighed down with a spouse and child, making sure they only have 100 bucks in their account at any given time is going to keep them in line.  It’s doubly bad that every adult, married or not, is pretty much a tax avoidance scam for Boob, too.  Thousands upon thousands of dollars may be passing through under their name, but they wind up having little to no access to it.

 One of the other things I mention is avoiding moods and fits of sulkiness.  Read by a sulking Michelle. There are no emotions besides positive emotions.

First of all, the first 7:45 of this is Katie babbling on about the conference and how it was set up, who cares?  Essentially, the Duggars spoke at 2 sessions. In the morning session, JB and M spoke about politics and the Lord or something; nothing about the family.  Then, in the afternoon, they were speaking about family and Meechelle brought out a book for women from the 1850's with a list of rules for the household and it includes not giving your kids too much money.  Also, something about slander and how it is slander for someone to say bad stuff about you publicly even if the bad stuff is true.  This is all from the list in the book which Meechelle basically reads aloud. Unfortunately, Katie then interrupts again to tell us what they just said and spin it a little.

She then cuts to Jim Bob speaking about how, as a parent, being angry can set up a wall between your children and God which Katie extrapolates to JB being angry and abusive to the kids which lead to Jill and Derick straying from the path of Gothard.

Then, Meechelle talks about the Gospel of Matthew as to how to resolve conflicts in the family.  Lots of BS about trying to resolve conflicts between the people involved and, if that doesn't work, ask a 'gray haired' person to go with you to try to work things out.  If that doesn't help, take it to church.  Once again, Katie jumps in to say that the verses in Matthew conclude with the advice that, if you still cannot come to an agreement, then cut that family member out of your life.  M didn't actually say that but Katie decides that this is what she meant and it was a direct message to Derick and Jill.

Anyway, of the 18 minutes of the thing, maybe 4-5 are JB and M and the rest is Katie interpreting what she thinks they really meant which is a stretch, IMO.  Jim Bob and Michelle have never, ever even acknowledged publicly that there is a rift with the Dillards and I don't expect they ever will.

My estimate of 4-5 minutes of footage of JB and M is generous, BTW, it was probably less.  From what I saw, they were spouting the usual crapola they spout at these conferences.  I didn't think there was any great revelation about anything specific to their family.  If the stuff that Katie posted was the most convincing as far as their relationship with Jill and Derick, there is nothing there.

I’m not a fan of giving kids large amounts of money but you have to then prepare them to be independent so they can support themselves which they have not. But since appearing on the show is more or less their job, they should be compensated.

JB will never conceive (or concede) that there is any problem or issue.  As he sees it his kids have great lives because they're living HIS dream.  The man literally can't see beyond the bounds of his dream and dismisses all outside that scope as sinful and ungodly.

Derick may very well be a big spinner of facts.  IMO plenty of the infamous Duggar 19 are suffering in bondage because they do not have independent access to the money earned off their image and participation.

I'm 100% convinced these entities are nothing but fronts for money laundering. I remember that one scene where Kendra called Joe at the car lot and he said a couple people came by over the course of the entire day. Not exactly a high traffic operation. There's no way these piddly businesses are generating enough profit to support the sons and their families.

The Duggar marrieds live off whatever allowance Boob gives them.

I think in considering whether the kidults, particularly the married kids, have their own money, we have to also look at any differences between the daughter/son-in-law pairings versus the son/daughter-in-law pairings. Couples like Joe/Kendra, etc. probably do not completely have any cash flow independent of JB, whether it's from the show or from their own businesses. I suspect that Jim Bob is involved at some level with each of the son/daughter-in-law pairings, although it may be to differing degrees with each one. 

The daughter/son-in-law pairings, with the possible exception of Jessa/Ben, likely do have cash flow independent of JB. This is most evident with Jill/Derick and Joy/Austin. I suspect that with Jill/Derick, they are completely financially independent from JB. I think Joy/Austin are almost completely there other than maybe the occasional stint on Counting On, but even then they are trying to break away from that. Jinger/Jeremy is a big question mark, because they are clearly not residing in the same vicinity as everyone else, but LA has a higher cost of living, and it's unclear as to what their cash flow is with their attempts at influencing, or even with regard to the show. And well, Ben has basically become a Duggar more than Jessa has become a Seewald, so they are probably more on par with the son/DILs.

It was the same when 19K showed Smuggar and Ofsmuggar at the business before Mackynzie was born. There was hardly any traffic, and there was Ofsmuggar, making notes on a steno pad like a real professional dealership. *eye roll* I bought a new (used) car this week, and there was no steno pad or the owner's wife or a repurposed kitchen table involved.

Michelle used her whisperly sweet mousy voice again. It was annoying to listen to her. Those two have a lot of nerve continuing to speak anywhere and give advise to anyone. They do it for the $$, if any, and mostly for the attention it gives them. They are experts in nothing but think so highly of themselves. Wow, are they models of humility!

I understand what JB was trying to say..... the Bible says that God is our ABBA Father, a common term that expresses affection, confidence and trust. Yes, revere, honor and respect God, but don’t be afraid to go to Him with your problems, fears or concerns much like you would do to your earthly father. Unfortunately, some earthly fathers don’t deserve honor or respect. So, if a person wouldn’t go to their earthly father, they very well may turn against their Heavenly Father.

Yes, thank you, I was trying to think of how to explain this. You did a much better job than I would have. Also if your earthly father is abusive/ untrustworthy then you are less likely to trust the Heavenly Father.

Agree that SM is not reality and neither family is something that I would aspire to. I was just sharing my opinion that what Derick says and the speculation made by the Youtube woman does not make sense with what we see with the remaining Duggars.

Jessa and Ben do own their home. Someone saw the deed. Any money that the Vuolos made on the sale of their house would be long gone by now.

They had about $90k in equity. Their Laredo house was about $185k, and their mortgage was under $100k. Still don't know who gifted them the $90k down payment, but there it is.
