The new comic book inspired poster for Supergirl has images of Jimmy Olsen and Ryand'r (Teen Titan Starfire's brother, who did appear in a Supergirl comic). Now, the designers probably picked whichever images from the comics that looked cool/etc., but if the show was planning on adding a Tamaranean to the cast, here's the first clue.

A Tamaranean would be perfect!  Someone else they can't afford the effects for but who can still take screentime and attention away from Kara!

(What, bitter?  Me?  Surely you jest!)

I know you're being sarcastic, but with Melissa's maternity leave, taking screentime from Kara might atually be a goal for next season.  😭 😭

Wouldn't that alien race be exclusive to Titans, which isn't seen as part of the Arrowverse?

(I know, it's a part of the multiverse, but the people on Earth-Prime think there's just the one universe, never mind one for every DC-inspired show)

If DC says so; but it doesn't have to be. Supergirl could have its own version; just like Titans had its own version of Deathstroke after Arrow's version. Not that I expect them to have Starfire on the show; if anything, it'll be a new or obscure character.

That's not quite true. Earth-Prime residents know about the multi-verse; they just don't know that much about it unless they've had direct experience with doppelgangers from the parallel universe(s).

New Supergirl series coming in June: https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2021/03/02/dc-proudly-announces-supergirl-woman-of-tomorrow-launching-in-june

Quote

Supergirl returns to DC’s comics this summer to headline her first new series in years: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow! Launching in DC’s Infinite Frontier era with art by Bilquis Evely and Mat Lopes, written by Tom King, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow takes Supergirl—and sidekick Krypto—into space on a journey that will have Supergirl fans cheering for more!

Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but has recently found her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame.

Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission: her world has been destroyed and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.

Now, a Kryptonian, a dog and an angry heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core!

Brought to you by Eisner Award-winning writer Tom King (Batman/Catwoman, Mister Miracle and Rorschach) and Eisner nominee artist Bilquis Evely (Sandman Universe: The Dreaming) this maxiseries promises to be a character-defining masterpiece the likes of which has never been seen before for DC’s Maiden of Might.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a new eight-issue limited series by Bilquis Evely, Mat Lopes and Tom King, launches on June 15. If someone could explain to me what the Anti-Life Equation is, that would be great.

The Anti-Life Equation is a formula for total control over the minds of sentient beings. In comics it's the ultimate goal for Darkseid, one of the Biggest Bads in DC. I doubt we'll see Darkseid show up on Supergirl but his home planet of Apokolips is filled with evil characters so we could see one of them show up instead.

Darkseid was the Big Bad for the final season of Smallville, albeit he himself barely showed up. It's not inconceivable that Supergirl will do something similar -- have a bunch of Darkseid's minions like Granny Goodness and the Female Furies  show up. The main thing that would make this seem unlikely is that the various versions of the Justice League movie raising the notion of Darkseid TPTB would want them to deal with him.

Think this is worth mentioning here because of the show's racebending of Jimmy James Olsen;

There's going to be a new Superman cartoon, and Jimmy will be Black (or at least dark-skinned) in this version:

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, My Adventures with Superman introduces us to twenty-somethings Clark Kent, the bright and driven Lois Lane and their best friend Jimmy Olsen as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet. Promising a mix of action, comedy and romance, the new series has received a two-season order from HBO Max and Cartoon Network, as announced this morning by Warner Bros.’ Head of Kids & Family Programming, Amy Friedman.

Described as a serialized coming-of-age story, My Adventures with Superman will follow Clark as he builds his secret Superman identity and embraces his role as the hero of Metropolis—and perhaps the world. Lois, now growing into a star investigative journalist, takes aspiring photographer Jimmy Olsen under her wing. All the while, Clark and Lois are falling in love, sharing adventures, taking down bad guys, stumbling over secrets and discovering what it means to be Superman and Lois Lane.

If there were ever a way to finally bring closure for Legends of Tomorrow fans, Dreamer's ongoing stories would be it. I've always felt that she and Brainy would have been perfect additions to the Legends, since they could definitely have used someone with her powers, and she and Brainy both would have fit right in with them and would have understood them (and vice versa) perfectly.

Supergirl and J'onn J'onzz make appearances in Earth-Prime #6: Hero’s Twilight -- the comic crossover miniseries based on the TV universe. You can see them in the preview pages here; not sure how much they, or other show characters, are in the issue.

One nitpick with that preview: I doubt Kara would still be referred to as 'Supergirl' nearly 30 years from now.

BTW, Lena Luthor is featured in Earth-Prime #1: Batwoman.

More about the story in Legion of Super-Heroes with the writer, Josie Campbell, at DC:

"I knew I wanted Supergirl to be the main character,” she states. “She's had so much trauma blown up in front of her eyes. Her mom's gone. Everything she knows has gone. Batman's mean to her. There are just so many roadblocks. And she's really desperately searching for this place to belong. To me, that goes hand in hand with this teenage coming of age story."

'Nicole Maines Reveals Dreamer's Secret Origin in New Graphic Novel'

Quote

Supergirl may have ended its six-season run on The CW, but actress Nicole Maines isn't done with her character Dreamer, who broke new ground for being the first transgender superhero character on television. Maines has already penned several DC Comics stories featuring Nia Nal, including a recent issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El. Now Maines is teaming with artist Rye Hickman (Lonely Receiver) for a full-length graphic novel called Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story.

Quote

Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story is part of DC's growing YA graphic novel line, which also includes stories like Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale and Beast Boy Loves Raven. But where most of these books are intended as standalone stories not connected to the larger DC Universe, Maines specifically envisions Bad Dream as being set in DC's main comic book continuity. This is meant to be the definitive origin story for a character who has never really had one.

And now Dreamer will be in a Suicide Squad story:

'Amanda Waller Recruits Dreamer for Her Plans To Take Control of the DC Universe'

Today, DC has confirmed plans for Suicide Squad: Dream Team, a new ongoing series written by Nicole Maines, with art by Eddy Barrows (Action Comics, Freedom Fighters) and Eber Ferreira. The debut issue arrives at participating comic book shops and e-tailers on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Quote

“I’m really excited to be working with Eddy and Eber to bring Dreamer into this pivotal time in the DC Universe,” said Maines. “This is a very different space from what she’s used to, and where we’re used to seeing her; dealing with Amanda Waller and this new Suicide Squad is going to force her to decide what kind of hero she wants to be, and what she is willing to sacrifice to save the future.”
