Fortitude - General Discussion

Do I understand correctly that now with the doctor in the hospital, this place has no doctors whatsoever, let alone a coroner/medical examiner?

That's what I thought, but it's unclear. You would think that even in a town of that size there would be more than one medical professional, simply because she can't work 24/7 and would ostensibly need assistance in any surgical situation, even if they only do minor ones in Fortitude. I can believe that they don't have a coroner, since it's illegal to die on the island, but surely they must have at least an EMT, or a nurse or something.

So, the mainland is just truly setting this place this adrift?  I'm baffled.

Me too. It all seemed a bit sketchy. I could see there being some actual laws or protocol in place regarding the amount and type of resources that can be made available to Fortitude, even if it's something harsh, like the mainland government saying, "hey, you weirdos agreed to live in that godforsaken place of your own free will, so you need to do so without our help," but it seemed more like there isn't a solid plan in place, and the government officials are just "meh" about helping. Does this indicate a wider cover up? Does it show that the governor is actually ineffectual or actively disliked by the mainland government? I guess time will tell, especially since she lied about help coming.

I'm not surprised the place if chock full of oddballs

Agreed, and they are all so fun to watch! It kind of reminds me of a really dark version of "Northern Exposure", which was about a kooky town in Alaska that attracted wacky, yet mostly harmless and amusing, inhabitants. And only had one doctor.

I don't normally go for freaky or gruesome tv shows, but I'm definitely hooked on this one.

I'm also really enjoying Fortitude and I usually don't care for shows where I am confused about so much that is going on. Like others, I find that I am hooked on this show and am enjoying it more now since I have figured out who is who. I decided to go back and re-watch the first two episodes and I'm glad I did since It made much more sense the second time, particularly the part where they were discussing why Henry had to leave the island before he died.

I am loving Dan and Morton together. I could watch a whole hour of those two questioning suspects. Considering that they don't like each other very much, they came across like long time partners in that interview room..

Sigh... I really want to continue liking this show (and for the most part I do) but I really don't like the fact that with each passing episode there seems to be more and more scenes in which I have to look away in disgust. I appreciate the story-telling technique of "show not tell" but did we really need to see Shirley's brain slicing or Frank's torture sessions with the creepy teacher? I sure didn't.

Speaking of Frank, his whole family is annoying me at the moment. He's become completely unhinged, his wife is nothing but a hand-wringing bore with no discernible personality traits, and so far the kid has only been ill, drugged up, or uncommunicative. They are not a compelling family to watch.

I continue to like the sheriff, and was glad to get another piece of the puzzle regarding his role in the murder/mercy killing of the polar bear snack (can't remember his name at the moment). He said he "did it for love", and since Elena seems to be somewhat clued in to what happened (as far as the replaced floor boards and carpet anyways), I suspect that Dan thought that guy was harassing or assaulting Elena and attacked him in a fit of jealousy or protectiveness. I didn't get a "love affair" vibe between him and Elena in the flashback last week (she seemed to be eyeing the surly Russian dude instead), so even though she's creeped out by the sheriff so far, I don't think she actually hates him as she would if he had killed her lover.

I'm intrigued by the researchers identifying a chemical reason for the strange happenings in town, in both the animals and humans. It reminds me a bit of Game of Thrones in a way- everyone in town is so absorbed in their own petty bulllshit that they don't see the larger threat that could indiscriminately wipe them all out (i.e., White Walkers and mysterious toxin).

Fingernails and drills. The only thing missing was pulled teeth and we would have had the trifecta of uncomfortably grisly torture devices. This show doesn't mess around. A bit much even for my taste.

So Ronny is sitting unnoticed in a room of his home, his chest sliced open and his eyes unnaturally milky. I'm surprised he was apparently a victim of a mammoth curse killer since the attack didn't fit the MO of previous assailants. More and more questions.

I love how different characters shift in and out of focus. This week the scientists took center stage again, seemingly making steps towards solving the mystery. Also enjoyed the time spent with Henry, one of the more fascinating characters for me, and Morton retracing his steps. The Sudder family is more frustrating to me, mostly because Liam continues to be a complete cypher 9 episodes in.

Can I say great acting all around? SG really shone this week and I thought the guy playing creepy teacher was stellar. Can't believe he made me feel for such a distugsting individual.

Not the best episode, but I feel show is still well on track towards a permanent spot in my list of favorites.

Yeah, I had to hide my eyes too much last night.  Not sure why I'm still watching, as I have abandoned shows for too much graphic violence.  There is something about this show that keeps me there.  How many episodes left?  Will I make it?

Link to comment

I don't think they needed to include those graphic torture scenes,.  What purpose did that serve?  If it weren't for Dan, Morton, and Henry I think I'd bail on this show even though there are only 3 episodes left.  I can take the graphic autopsy scenes or even the forking scenes, but I was totally disgusted that they needed to include torture.  Even if they are going to link Markus to Liam in some way (which doesn't seem likely), that was totally unnecessary.  Gratuitous torture porn seems out of place in this show.

When Elena was showing Carrie how to set a table, and Carrie was holding the fork, I thought for a minute we were going to have another fork stabbing.  I guess that would have been too much after the Frank/Markus scenes, and Ronnie, and the autopsy on Shirley's skull.  This show does draw the line somewhere, I guess.

I actually can't wait for it to be over now.

Link to comment

Honestly, this show is a total mindfuck but at least we're finally getting a theory on why people are randomly forking their mother or slicing open a stranger.  I'm in for the duration because of the acting.  Sofie Grabol was so heartbreakingly wonderful in this episode that I it made me long for a 4th season of Forbrydelsen.  SG, please come back from Iceland!

I couldn't figure out who that was at the end with the zombie eyes but I'm hoping he'll carve up someone next week with a kitchen implement, hopefully the annoyingly mysterious Elena or totally worthless Frank Sutter.  Those two are both on my last nerve.  Oh, and the Sutters yet again leave Liam in the house by himself.  smh.

I've been wondering the same thing and you're right that the MO is different. The sneaking up in the dark, hiding him in the room or closet, the home movie playing -- it made me wonder if someone just mimicked the other attacks but then couldn't figure out why they would leave him alive or who in town actually knows what the MO has been thus far. I suppose it really was an "infected" person.

I've also been wondering if Ronnie didn't turn into a predator because of his mental illness. Maybe a difference in his brain chemistry kept him from becoming what the others became?

I think I'm as curious about the police chief's story as I am about the "infection." What made him cover for Henry about accidentally shooting Pettigrew and why did he know where to find Pettigrew? Why was he already in Stoddart's house when the body was discovered? When Henry phoned London saying that the chief had something to do with Stoddart's death, did he actually know something or merely suspect that the chief was in cahoots with the mayor and wanted Stoddart out of the way so the hotel plans could move forward? And what was he referring to when talking to Henry when he said something like, whatever I've done, I did for love?

I usually dislike the ambitious shows that for 11 episodes throw a bazillion of puzzle pieces in the air, only to complete the picture by the last episode. I find this kind of showing off too vain for my taste. And kind of irritating storytelling.

What saves Fortitude for me is the landscape/location and the acting. Mystery is the last reason.

This episode though, frustrated me. The gory feast continued, and I never really understood the pleasure of autopsy porn.
What is the point? I mean really, in a show when the mystery and the gruesome murders have already unsettled the viewer, why add the graphic details of an autopsy? It is not that we haven't watched something similar already (hello CSI?).

Same goes for the torture scene.
Frank is a completely annoying character, not sure what the aim of the writers is, that war vets have issues? that only psychos and weirdos go to live in places like Fortitude? That being isolated makes it easier for people to go beserk ? or that plain stupidity can be found anywhere? In any case I am now kind of sad the Sheriff didn't kill him in that shower. I am also certain that Liam isnt under the influence of any virus, he is just the child of an insane idiot. Genes, you know.

Link to comment

I think the point of Frank is that, as it turns out, he's actually a much bigger monster than the creepy teacher (Marcus?). It's a twist on audience expectations: the flawed, but earnest parent and war veteran vs. the introvert teacher with a disgusting fetish and pictures of boys covered in blood. As far as we know, the latter isn't guilty of any crime while the former empathically stepped over several lines now that go beyond the morality of adultery and child neglect.

At least that's my take on it. Or perhaps one can debate whether the feeding of Shirley was its own cruel torture and Marcus is still ahead on the villain scale. In either case, I found it pretty fascinating as far as character development is concerned, if more than a little gratuitous.

When Marcus said it was consensual he was telling the truth (no matter how manipulating Marcus could be it seemed Shirley was enjoying this relationship).

While she apparently really liked Markus, I'm not sure she enjoyed all the feeding.  In one of those scenes she indicated that she'd had enough and he encouraged her to eat more.  It seemed like she did it just to please him.  I'm not saying it wasn't consensual, but it certainly was dysfunctional.

But I think what you're saying is that Frank is the bigger monster.

Edited by SierraMist

My interpretation was that the feeding was technically consensual in that Marcus didn't shove the food in Shirley's mouth by physical force, but it was clear that it took a lot of pressure from him to get her to agree in the first place, and we were shown more than one instance of her saying "no" multiple times before reluctantly agreeing to his persistent nagging. And that's before she was grievously ill. It certainly wasn't a mutually enjoyable activity.

I agree that the scenery and acting are the big draws for me, and would add character development to that list. I have no love of gore, and the multiple mysteries are only vaguely interesting, but I am really fascinated by the people, and why each of them came to Fortitude in the first place.

Please don't forget the decapitated polar bear laid out on the autopsy table for goodness knows how long. I have to admit I'm squeamish, and I've had to start watching this show with one eye closed. Still watching, though.

I agree.  But for me, the scenery doesn't make it all right.  There had better be some meaningful development to the storyline soon!

What made him cover for Henry about accidentally shooting Pettigrew and why did he know where to find Pettigrew?

I think the photograph of Pettigrew's missing arm handcuffed to some structure is a strong indication that the sheriff caused Pettigrew's death by handcuffing him in a vulnerable location for the bears to find and eat.  Henry coming upon the scene and firing the lethal shot is incidental.  Sheriff Dan is up to no good, and has been from act one, scene one.  Long before any mammoth remains showed up.

And do we know for certain that it was Henry's shot that killed Pettigrew?  Or did Henry's shot miss completely, while Sheriff Dan simultaneously fired to prevent Pettigrew from being kept alive -- even badly mauled -- for long enough to spill whatever beans Sheriff Dan didn't want made public?

The strangest part of the entire episode is the comment that everyone in Fortitude trusts the Mayor totally and completely.  Really?  I for one wouldn't trust her as far as I could spit!

Let us not forget that Morton did ask Dan HOW Pettigrew managed to get all the way out there, dressed as he was, without freezing.  Either Pettigrew as (1) brought there by someone, presumably with handcuffs, or

(2) he was the first victim of the strange antifreeze disease, and perhaps Dan knows more than he's saying.  (Yes, Liam had frostbite, but I have trouble believing he could have survived the cold.)

Well, the traditional Norwegian sendoff that Markus gave Shirley was actually very touching.

So Henry is dead.  Dan is his son.  And it looks like Dan is going to rescue Morton after all, and we finally learn what happened to Pettigrew.

Shouldn't Elena or Carrie have discovered Ronnie by now?  And how is he still alive?

Why hasn't Frank been arrested?  I thought Markus said he called the police or did I not hear that correctly?

On another site, there was mention of an image, I guess a flashback, of a possible rape. I didn't see anything like that--did anyone else see it? I watched the end credits again since there were a number of flashbacks and preview scenes but still don't see anything like that.

I think, somehow, in the back of my brain, the one person I thought could/would survive this mess was DCI Morton, perhaps because he's off to the side.  So, holy ..., my mouh just dropped when Henry shot him.

Although I knew his vehicle getting stuck was going to be bad somehow.

I've never seen anything like that, but if something like that did happen, it probably had to do with Elena (and maybe Pettigrew).  And I'm thinking Dan went to her aid and maybe that's why she and Dan are so covert about everything.

The people discussing the scene also guessed that it was Elena. Apparently they saw the victim struggling to reach a knife or something sharp and guess that she ends up stabbing him and that accounts for the suspected blood stains and new flooring. The also guessed that Dan came to her aid to hide the stabbing because of her record.

I thought Morton getting shot (or at least something bad happening to him) was somewhat telegraphed by that very important message that failed to reach him, and now maybe never will. I think things are looking grim for the DCI. That I do find shocking and sad. Intensly frustrated with Henry. That old fool. On the plus side, Morton arguing with him while he was covering the snow in red was probably the funniest bit of dark humor the show has done so far.

Also frustrated with zombie Ronny, though at least it's weirdly fascinating how they manage to keep him in limbo even after something relevant finally happened to him. It feels almost like a joke at this point. So it was Jason that gave him a dose of frog sperm, I assume? The meeting of Jason and Liam, both clearly far away and yet connected was pretty chilling I thought.

Somehow this is the most upsetting episode for me so far, and I'm not sure it's in a good way. Maybe I'll have more coherent thoughts in a day or two.

This show is so good, so good, and builds up so nicely. Its biggest problem seemed to be the very slow start, in the first 2-3 episodes I wasnt sure. And now only 2 episodes left...doh.. I want more!

I KNOW!!  I don't get surprised by TV very often and that surprised me!! He was bleeding so much...then would Henry call, would Henry call...FINALLY,,,,then come Dan, go, go,go - arrrrgh!  Dan told the other guy he'd make a good sheriff - does Dan know his time is up as sheriff because of whatever happened?

Liam doesn't have a chance, worst parents ever.  They ask surprised that you know, they might actually need to follow up and get him some help.  Never mind torture guy Frank, who actually made me feel badly for creepy Markus.  Pretty easy to just nab a body out of the Fortitude cooler by the way.  He seemed to at least care for her, though probably it's just that he's lost the person he could manipulate.

Mammoth ivory would be very valuable I would guess.  and WTF with Ronnie?  No one has looked around the house?  He is locked in his own closet or shed isn't he?

Series creator Simon Donald talks about Fortitude's weird moments.  No spoilers for those who are up to date through at least Ep 8.

Eek! I didn't know this.

In the Arctic, the bear — there's nothing that can hurt it. So it starts eating the thing that it's hunting as soon as it's got its claws in it. And that notion of something so powerful and single-minded that it eats you without killing you was so chilling that it became an important moment in the world.

Clarification on poor piggy

She works her way down through the corridors, and there's an identical hyperbaric chamber to the one her son's in, and inside it is a pig.

If you look carefully, its hooves have been horribly damaged because they're experimenting on the pig to see to what extent the hyperbaric oxygen chamber can heal frostbite. So she's seeing an animal being experimented on in exactly the same circumstances as she's just left her kid, and it's just deeply distressing and disturbing.

Interesting interview overall.

Mammoth ivory would be very valuable I would guess.

The Ivory Ban has made mammoth and other fossilized ivories highly prized for use by jewelers, makers of musical instruments, and for the decorating of objects of every type, from hairbrushes to pocket knives.  Using mammoth ivory does not endanger them as a species, because mammoths are already extinct.

Dan races into the frozen wilderness to locate Henry and Morton, but he is forced to reveal the truth surrounding the death of scientist Billy Pettigrew. Back in Fortitude, Natalie has a disturbing encounter with Jason, whose behaviour is becoming increasingly bizarre, while her and Vincent's investigation leads to a particularly strange development in the inquiries into recent events.

Ugh, so many stomach-turning moments!  I can't believe Vincent would expose himself like that in Dr, Allerdyce's room, taking no precautions at all even though he knew that it was likely some kind of tranmittable parasite (sorry if my science is wrong).  Couldn't he have examined her on the other side of the door, those lumps were big enough.

Very satisfying episode. I have little doubt left that this show will stick its landing and go down as a classic.

No shocking twist in the Pettigrew mystery, and I appreciate that. I think a lot of people saw this revelation coming. Morton was just inches away from discovering the truth by himself, and we were alongside him every step of the way. I love crime shows that play fair with their audience, that allow you to figure out whodunnit without throwing last minute curveballs. I thought this mystery was nearly perfectly paced, giving out clues at just the right time and utilizing very few red herrings. I recently rewatched the premier again and was surprised at how much meaningful information we were given right from the beginning (even the handcuffed arm is briefly visible in the opening scene!). Granted you had to know what to look for, but that's par for the course in this genre.

Also I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate smart scientists! So the dog lapped the goo out of his master's open carcass? That's as morbid as it is genious. Never saw it coming. I think the showrunners promised a "scientific" explanation from the beginning, and it's brilliant how the scientists increasingly took center stage in figuring out what's happening as we closed in on the finale. I love these two characters. And I really fear for their life now, more than ever.

I'm willing to take a bet that Ronnie will never be discovered. I expect him to still be in the closet, spewing insects in the closing shot of the show, after everyone thinks the threat has been eliminated. The tease of Elena finding him was hilarious to me. He's definitely become a running joke.

Bring on the finale. I can't wait.

I enjoyed the switch from the scientific investigation to a scene you might expect to see in a horror flick with the bugs flying out of the doctor's mouth. I can't help thinking that we have seen a scene like that in a horror movie but just can't recall which one at the moment.

I'm interested to see how the town plans to contain the problem

Such a great show so far.

The only thing that makes me a tad sad is

that if it gets renewed, second season will be with a new cast. And that also spoils a bit the finale, since everyone could die

The way the infection is affecting people differently is interesting, and I'm not a scientist, but I think there a a lot of discrepancies.  I don't remember Shirley even touching the mammoth and if she did, it was very briefly.  Unless some of that scene was cut.   I don't understand Liam's symptoms and the muttering and the voodoo doll.  All very atmospheric but, why?  It's a great show, but in the end a lot of it is being done for effect and not for science.  And there's nothing wrong with it being a horror flick, it's a very interesting show, but they seem to be emphasizing the science.  Maybe in the last two episodes it will all make sense.

With events taking an unexpected turn in the Arctic community, Sheriff Anderssen must make a devastating decision.

I know that this place is sparsely populated and full of independent types, but the lack of basic security and supervision is shocking to me.

- Dr. Allerdyce's entire body was literally erupting in insects and there wasn't so much as a note on the door (let alone a guard or a lock on the door) warning people not to enter her room. And we know it didn't happen suddenly, because it was telegraphed in earlier scenes. How the hell didn't anyone notice this?

- The woman scientist is violently attacked in her lab and yet goes back to working alone directly afterwards and no one seems to have a problem with that.

- Liam continues to be left alone by his parents for long stretches. Given the circumstances (legally and medically), shouldn't they be talking to lawyers, psychiatrists, other medical doctors? Anyone??? Even with the quarantine in place, they should be blowing up Google and/or making as many phone calls as necessary to get some answers. But they seem perfectly happy to stew in their house, sulking and glaring at each other. Most useless parents ever!

Other than that, I'm very sad about Morton. He didn't deserve to go out like that! I'm glad we got the answers about Pettigrew's murder, and it was basically what I expected, but more graphic and awful. Poor Elena! I guess the print out of the mammoth grave that he had was just a red herring for that storyline.

Next week seems like it will be bloodbath. I have no idea if a second series is planned, but I wouldn't mind the whole place just implodes and all the residents either die or need to leave. I need to remember not to eat anything while I watch- I think it's going to be the most disgusted episode yet!

Well its only a nurse who treats Dr Allerdyce. There is no ICU with the personnel needed.

The whole medical care thingy is a big weakness in the whole story. From the moment the main and only Doctor was critically injured another Doc should had arrived asap from the mainland.

Not to mention that both the Doc and Liam (when he first got really sick) should have been transferred in a decent hospital in the mainland. They tried to justify it as if the mainland government doesnt care about them cause of the cost. This is BS,  in any country like Norway, there is NO way they wouldnt supply them with the proper medical care.

We are bankrupt in Greece and the government still provides a few choppers to fly to small distant islands to transfer ppl who need special/urgent medical care.

Liam's folks have lost it. It is not easy to cope with the fact that your young kid committed such a brutal murder.

Truth is, I havent found a show  yet with no plot holes, and I still like this one!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee you guys, bugs!!!  I watch a LOT of gross stuff but bugs nesting in people is just so ew for me.  EW!

RIP Morton :(  I thought maybe Dan was fibbing but then we saw the body.  Speaking of Dan, Pettigrew kind of called it - Dan has it in him to be just as brutal.  We see Dan staring at Elena's pic on the computer, then he doen't throw the gross rapist in jail (assuming they have one) he drives him out to be eaten by a bear.  And sits in the car while that happens.  OK he looked upset but still.  Plus he brutally beat up Frank because he was jealous.   I felt badly for Elena.

I did LOL a bit at the scientists running out to the hospital and leaving the dog guts all over the examining table.

I could not believe that Vincent just kept gawking at Dr. Allerdyce with all those bugs coming out of her.

Ack! Leaning closer...closer...I was yelling back up you fool!  Fascinating but you KNOW these things are hatching in living creatures.  It was brave of him to insist the door stay shut.  Doubt I would have been so brave (or at all).

So Ronnie is hatching away in the closet?  Good thing Elena didn't open it but I sure would have; the key fits in the lock, you have a look to see if it's cleaning supplies, sheets or whatever.  She couldn't hear the buzzing?  I guess he's not giving off an odor?  I thought maybe she was deliberately locking him in to not be found but she seemed to find the key by accident so maybe not.

Then what's his name napping with the mammoth carcass.  The infestation/infection treats some as carriers and some as hosts?

I wonder about the mainland refusing to help - did they have some idea of what might be going on and didn't want to send anyone else?  I wonder what Morton might have communicated to them.

I have no idea if a second series is planned, but I wouldn't mind the whole place just implodes and all the residents either die or need to leave.

I thought the same thing, but Ronnie did have the mammoth tusks stolen so we're all doomed now anyway.

Definitely, and we saw it again when he caught Frank and Elena together. That was one heck of a beating. I also found it odd that he justified his actions by claiming that he was worried that Pettigrew would bring charges against Elena for stabbing him. I know evidence can be manipulated in court, but considering by the time of the stabbing Pettigrew had handcuffed her to the bedpost and ripped off half her clothes, this was a clear case of self-defense, so I think this comment was more about Dan convincing himself he did the right thing, rather than a genuine fear for the repercussions for her. But I could be wrong, since she is presumably on some sort of probation due to her prior conviction (also for stabbing someone) and may not be treated the same as a first-time offender. I don't remember hearing details about her original case, so I don't know how similar the circumstances are.

It was brave of him to insist the door stay shut.  Doubt I would have been so brave (or at all).

Seriously. My "fight or flight" instinct would have taken over and I would have bolted from that room immediately, even if the logical part of my brain knew it was a bad idea. My skin crawls every time I think about it!

Also, re Morton, I know Dan was conflicted about saving him in the last episode, due to what he had found out, but did Dan actually intentionally let him die? He made it sound like he was honouring Morton's wish not to be moved or helped, but who would take the word of a man who was seriously injured, suffering from exposure, and doped up on morphine? He certainly wasn't of sound mind or body at that point. I realise his survival chances were probably slim by then, but did Dan even check the wound or any of his vital signs? There seemed to be no urgency in his actions at all to either tend to the wound or move him, so I can only assume that Dan was doing the bare minimum that his job required (to answer the distress call) but had no real intentions of trying to save him. Chilling.

Liam's folks have lost it. It is not easy to cope with the fact that your young king committed such a brutal murder.

I agree with this, and have no idea how I would react in that situation, but it still makes for boring television. Apart from torturing the creepy neighbour and a failed escape attempt, his parents don't seem to have really done anything to either try to clear his name, or prepare themselves for a possible investigation/trial. They don't even seem to be speaking to each other. It's so boring to watch that I don't even really know if they think he's guilty, think he was framed, think he was out of his mind at the time or what. The situation itself is interesting and could have developed into a really engaging storyline, but those two characters are just so blah that I don't care anymore.

I just realised how negative this all sounds, but I don't think that most of these nit-picks are plot holes, so much as pieces of information that we haven't been shown that lead to questions. I really do like this show (except for Liam's family) and can't wait for the finale.

I'm disappointed that Hildur didn't tell Jules that yeah, there's something medical going on with Liam.  Instead she leaves Jules and Frank thinking their son's psychotic -- which he is, but it's not his fault.

So Fortitude has a hospital and a research center?  It was too easy for Markus to remove Shirley's body.  Nobody locks up behind them?

I get confused about the locations.  Does Elena have a home separate from the hotel?  Elena and Carrie are living at Carrie's house?

- The woman scientist is violently attacked in her lab and yet goes back to working alone directly afterwards and no one seems to have a problem with that.

I couldn't believe that Natalie just shrugged that off.  She and Jason were sleeping together at the beginning of the show.  Did she think he was just fooling around?  Very bizarre.

Wait, young ScienceGuy (Vincent?) has never seen a horror movie in his entire life?  He honestly doesn't know when it's time to RUN?

Don't mind him not seeing a horror movie but I do mind him not taking a biology course.  Don't know of any flies which burst out of your skin (to say nothing of your mouth) like that, and in the context of 'there's a weird super-parasite around' - time to exit.  Seriously one of the grossest things I've ever seen, but I have ... maggot issues.

TVLine is reporting that Pivot has renewed Fortitude for a second season. (scroll down for the brief mention near the bottom of the article)

Thanks for posting.  Now I'm wondering how they can have a 2nd season.  Obviously not with Michael Gambon, Stanley Tucci or Christopher Eccleston, the 3 stars they mentioned int he article.
