So our guys are genius but everyone else is stupid again. A honey trap spy knows her cover is blown and tries to kidnap and trade what she must think is an FBI agent for a nerve gas component? Like any government on earth would make that trade.

Trained spy / killer failed:

  1. To notice that Gallo was not bleeding before throwing him off the plane
  2. To kill an untrained genius in hand to hand combat

Even Skye could kick Walter's ass... Black Widow or Agent May would have been done in 15 seconds.

Walter saying that love is imaginary while smoothing over the kid's hair was kind of sad.  He's in love, it's just not with Paige.  Happy FREAKING...whatever Toby said was too cute.  Love her and Toby!

This show only works on a parallel to a cartoon level, you really can't apply logic to it. But it's a lot of fun otherwise.

I didn't realize this was starting late due to football.  I ended up additionally recording the last ten or fifteen minutes but I missed some stuff in the middle.  My first recording ended as Happy was slipping from the building.  The second recording picked up as it came back from commercials with Walter in an aircraft with the spy... so I got to see the preposterous super-hero stuff.  Can anyone give me a quick synopsis of what I missed in between?  T.I.A.!

What was the reason given for why Toby couldn't pretend to be the CIA guy instead of Walter?

There was a several episode long arc of Numb3rs in which Charlie lost his FBI clearance because he was sharing info on fertilizer with someone in a Pakistan (or some other stan) to prevent people from starving. Sound familiar?

I think they wanted him to observe the other patrons at the bar to determine whether or not she had backup there.

But really it was so Walter could flirt with Paige and have her voice in his ear.

AnnaRose: Happy got into the room eventually, after a glove failure and flying leap onto a balcony. She rifled through stuff til she found what she was looking for, but Walter and "Simi" were already on the way into the hotel room. So Walter grabbed Simi and started smooching her in the hallway so Happy could escape unseen. Then he made out with her on the couch so she wouldn't see the mess happy made rifling through stuff in the bedroom. Paige gave Walter moves through his earpiece and eventually he went off script and said "I like having your voice in my ear"-- Paige thought he meant her, but he might have been ad libbing because Simi had been mouthing his ear around the same time. At some point, he hesitated and Simi grew suspicious and knocked Walter out, found his earpiece, and took him to the jet, where she was holding him as hostage in exchange for the chemicals. When the team brought the chemicals, she refused to let Walter go, and I think you saw the rest. The episode will be available on cbs.com by tomorrow probably (they are usually up the day after broadcast) if you want to try to stream it start to finish.

Toby had to read the rest of the bar patrons in order to ensure Sima/Fatima/whoever was actually working alone. Because he couldn't look around and eliminate the folks already there?

Walter saying that love is imaginary while smoothing over the kid's hair was kind of sad.

Especially as he's obviously fibbing.  From "I don't like to be touched" to that.  The French or Italian agent that helped capture the diamond thieves? She was flirting and touching Walter, treating him like a normal guy. He said nothing about discomfort of her getting into his space or touching him. Granted, Sylvester was still recovering from massive trauma, but iirc, Walter responded to the advances politely and implying that he was flattered. Also, there was the time he was very lightly teased for making extra time to dance with Paige in the episode with Hetty.  The Contrivance Fairy made Walter regress.

Another piece of Contrivance Fairy-ness? The over-laugh Sima/Fatima gave over Walter's joke at the bar. It earned a chuckle, but that was some super-bad too-hard laughing. Now, Walter knew she was a spy, but wouldn't any Joe Schmoe notice that?

I have watched this show before. I know they do crazy things. One of the non-crazy things they do, though, is not overly objectify Happy and Paige. I saw more of Paige's lips and Happy's ass than I particularly needed.  Granted, I enjoyed seeing a damp Walter in a bathrobe, but it wasn't like I saw his abs and chest. I am pretty sure it was to keep the menfolk watching (otherwise Walter should have been undercover as a surfer/CIA analyst in a honey trap! *g*) Doesn't mean I have to accept it.

Other than that? I enjoyed myself.

When the question of how they were going to get Walter came up, I said hook the plane to a laptop again!

Ms. Not-Q should have been asked if the gadgets were field-tested first (Toby )! Notice that the ballistics shirt used by Cabe and the Pen-pick used by Walter worked okey-dokey, but Happy was a few stories up- the point of the gloves in the first place- and they crapped out on 100 pounds soaking wet Happy freaking Quinn! Happy doesn't send crappy tech into the field.

Sorry, another minor gripe: Walter, if Fatima hadn't already twigged that he wasn't an operative/analyst, gave it away with the super-romantic " I like having your  voice in my head."  To a woman he just met.

The rest of the episode felt okay, like the regular stuff, but the emphasis on Walter/Paige/romantic tension was out-of-whack and not what it is on the show normally. I fear some folks may have tuned out because they may think that Paige/Walter is the foremost part of the show, instead of this episode being a special, 'we-want-your-eyeballs' episode.

I am looking forward to the new episode we get tomorrow night, though!

Glove technology has not advanced much since Ethan Hunt was climbing in Dubai........

I wanted to see the jet smack into something and explode.  But the pilot somehow stopped the plane.  For me, that took away from Walter's escape.  In the event that he had chickened out from climbing out onto the jet wing, then Walter still would have been fine.

Man, I would think a badass assassin like Simi would have been able to down Walt with no problem.  That alone is going to make her the laughing stock of the assassin community.  It was fun seeing the actress in this type of role, since I only really know her from her role in Covert Affairs, where she was an escort for one of the regulars.  Who, ended up falling for her client.  She seems to keep falling for people she shouldn't.

Well, after playing around it, they sure did ramp up Walt/Paige, huh?  Paige clearly has the hots for him, and while Walt is still telling everyone that "Love is imaginary", I think he does have feelings for her too, but is in so much denial.  I'm not against the idea, but I wish they were a bit less obvious about it.

After the episode where Toby had to watch Happy flirt with Kid Cudi, it was now her turn to be a bit jealous over Toby and the CIA lady.  For some reason, I don't mind it as much as the Walt/Paige stuff.

Super bad is right. It felt a little like Rocket Racoon, "That is the most real, authentic, hysterical laugh of my entire life." Still, for reasons I can't even explain to myself, I enjoy the stuffing out of this silly show.

I like this show more each week. It's often completely ridiculous, but it's also a lot of fun and I'm loving all of the character development we get in each episode.

I agree that Walter's whole "I don't like physical contact" thing is obviously not completely true. He has been affectionate with both Ralph and his sister and I remember an episode where Sylvester hugged him and he didn't seem to be bothered by it. I suspect it mainly applies to Paige because he obviously has feelings for her and it would threaten his conviction that romantic love is imaginary.

I loved that Paige went to talk to Toby. I like that they are continuing to develop that friendship. I have a feeling that Toby will be influential in Paige and Walter eventually starting a relationship. Maybe subtly helping Walter with his issues.

Loved seeing Happy showing a little jealousy when Toby was flirting with the CIA tech girl and I'm pretty sure he was doing it mainly to get under her skin.

My other favorite moment with Happy was at the end, when they were all staring at the plane and Toby and Walter were discussing love, you could see Sylvester off to the side looking like he was close to a panic attack. Happy was next to him, looking concerned, and she reached over and touched his arm. Love these sweet little character moments.

The statement and his actions didn't strike me as incongruous, possibly because I personally identify as someone who does have an aversion to contact, in general. However with my very close loved ones, I'm fine with it. It's not even really cognitive dissonance, it's more so: rule of thumb, I don't want people to touch me. Exception to rule: people I'm very very comfortable with. Ralph and Walter's sister and apparently Sly fall into that category. Random spy: not so much.

Paige's obvious worry/suspicion Walter had been caught with her repeated talking into the earpiece annoyed me. You don't think maybe she found the earpiece and that's what just happened? But yeah, keep on yelling his real name with concern so whomever found it can mos' def' hear you. Good idea.

I also didn't enjoy the idiot-plot where they seemed to be presenting the dream sequence as some sort revelation to Paige that she might maybe remotely have a thing for Walter. As if she completely never noticed before. Or maybe it's just McPhee's acting that skewed it that way. Either way, it was absurd. And I'm saying this about an episode in which the pilot just so conveniently slipped back on the throttle after having previously slipped forward on it, and apparently there are zero staff at whatever airport that was who might be alarmed about whatever going down on the runway. Spy-airport: where you can blow up taxi-ing planes and no one blinks!

Does the fact that the real Walter O'Brian is like 300 pounds and rather unattractive mean nothing to the writing in these episodes?

Heh. I guess not.

Maybe Sylvester is the real personification of the real Walter O'Brien, and Elyse Gable is his alter ego?

New opening title card: Inspired by the life and fantasies of Walter O'Brien

He could be related to Penn...

I didn't take Paige as suddenly realizing she has feelings for Walter. I think she's shown a number of times that same look. What I took from the dream was that she was starting to feel a little out of control about it, which is what she basically said to Toby. She wasn't worried about the feelings. She was worried she'd do something stupid because of them. For me, that's not what happens the first moment I feel something. That's what happens when it's been building up for a while.

Maybe the episode is out of order, didn't Walter said he cared about Paige and her son last episode? suddenly he doesn't care (his word for love maybe)

Charades aired as Episode 14, but was Episode 15 in production order

"The Name's O'Brien... Walter O'Brien... and I'm really bad at this!"

If you're doing a Bond rip off, you're better off doing it like Deep Space 9 did (Our Man Bashir) and making it an outright comedy. Never mind worrying whether Walter can act naturally when spy lady runs her fingers through his hair, worry more about the fact that she'd have to be blind not to notice his ear piece! In fact, she was pretty clueless not to spot him long before she did, but at least Paige was spared finding out whether Walter really was prepared to take one for the team (and his country)!

One other thing - what exactly made the side of the spy plane EXPLODE when Walter set the alcohol alight?
