Chandler made good money in his job in Statistical Analysis and Data Reconfiguration. He helped Joey out.

We’re kind of getting off topic. Are there Hallmark movies with realistic homes?

Agreed.  (She also had a cameo in another of the "Time...to Come Home for Christmas" movies as the same character.)

She's not my least favorite but more often than not I don't care for her characters/roles.

Oh! Thanks for mentioning this. That's the only 'Time to Come Home' movie I've seen and I liked the amnesia angle they took with the story. When I saw Alison Sweeney, I thought it was another one of those 'add a Hallmark reg' moments and later found out she previously starred in one of her own.

We so need more male leads that give the smoldering "I'm going to sop you up with a biscuit" look and the "I would do anything for this woman" look because the chemistry was chemistrying here and Hallmark needs more of that!

The newer ones tend to lean more toward the big extravagant mansions (I love Long Lost Christmas, but the mother's house could have had its own block!). The older movies tended to have more realistic everyday homes (especially the movies in the late 90s on Lifetime and early 00s on Hallmark). Christmas Choir comes to mind, but Hallmark doesn't show that anymore (sadly). Window Wonderland had a more realistic apartment for Wynona Judd's character. I was watching Fir Crazy and noticed how more 'rustic' the parent's home looked. Even the homes in Pumpkin Pie Wars were pretty cozy and realistic instead of lavish mansions. Same thing with Corky Sherwood-Forrest's home in Trading Christmas. I loved that house so much. So flippin' cozy and that guest/writing house out back is my living dream.

I'm in between with the house in Miss Christmas. It's homey but can lean a bit on the farmhouse mansion-y side of things.

A Christmas Wish from 2011 always springs to mind, a single mom living in a tiny motel room with her kids.

But heaven forbid there is anything but sunshine and roses (or poinsettias at Christmas) any any Hallmark movie these days.  The closest they come to that is The Christmas Secret which deals with a bad dad and even then they lived in a big old house albeit on the brink of getting evicted.  Same with another favorite of mine, A Season for Miracles that even has (gasp) drug addiction as part of the story.  But, while the house was enormous, they were essentially squatters and there was only a tree, no massive amounts of items from Balsam Hill to hawk.

Saccharine overload is the name of the game at Hallmark.  It doesn't need to be dystopian but, geez, come on.  No one I know lives in 5000 square foot homes.

You said a whole word here. I have not been impressed with a lot of the male leads this year. I'm not a fan of Christopher Russell, Corey Sevier, Daniel Lissing, or Mark Rosner. None of them are attractive to me and their acting isn't good enough for me to overlook that. Ryan Paevey isn't winning any awards but at least he was really pretty to look at. If I can't have a decent actor, Hallmark, then dammit I want my eye candy.

On another note, I realized not too long ago I had seen Corey Sevier before Hallmark - he played one of the 'models' on the Psych episode 'Black and Tan: A Crime of Fashion'. I think those model roles were supposed to be ironic lol.

When it comes to everyday Hallmark movies, especially the Christmas ones, I don't mind a little saccharine. I don't watch for serious plots; at least not on the regular Hallmark channel. I can see them being on Hallmark Drama; or how about bringing back the Hall of Fame movies? Make everyone happy. The network actually does viewers a disservice when they do not make a place for more serious, well-acted, well-written fare. Then again, that would be a 'new channel" that one would have to pay for.  I only get the regular Hallmark Channel. I love the Mystery movies but my system requires an extra fee.

I also see Hallmark Christmas movies now popping up on Netflix. There may also be a few on FreeVee.

Agreed to all of this. Those actors are stiff  and don’t have much personality.

Actors who I think pair well with their leading ladies are Page, Ayres, Kemp, Polaha, Jeannotte, Dalton, Faris, and Cavanagh

One4 .. Thanks for mentioning this one.  It's my favorite of all time for many reasons, but the main one is that it introduced me to Aaron Tveit.  Also, all the principal actors have serious Broadway experience -- Laura Osnes of course, Tveit in Moulin Rouge and several others), Victoria Clark (more recently award-winning star of Kimberly Akimbo), Krystal Joy Brown (of Hamilton), and Tom McGowan (featured role in She Loves Me).  Amazing.  They all take what is probably a pretty standard Hallmark story and take it above that level.

So glad it's special to you also!

Thanks Chippings, wow that's quite a very_ talented cast !!!  I watched Small Town Christmas yesterday for the first time, this was excellent. Great little storyline and the cast is excellent too. Is it just me or does Kristoffer Polaha  just seem to get better with age?

Just finished watching Holiday Mismatch and thoroughly enjoyed it - the acting, the story (predictable as it was), the warmth and humor. Good chemistry between/among the actors. Kudos Hallmark! And oh yeah, Aunts Zelda and Hilda ftw!
OMG I just had a thought:  Melissa Joan Hart has done these kinds of movies (albeit not for Hallmark), but it would be FANTASTIC if they could get her to do one with her Spellman aunties!

So I had some more free time and watched Our Holiday Story.  Except for the shenanigans involving the missed connections and hidden identities, this was one of the most mature movies I can ever recall from Hallmark. I really liked the themes of belonging and exploring how someone can know if it’s truly love. Bravo, Hallmark. Movies need to show the  journey of how two people come to realize they’ve found their person, rather than presenting the couple as a fait accompli (even though we know they will end up together). But My biggest problem with this movie involved the casting of Nell’s best friend. Nell looked 15 years older than her bestie, so I just had a hard time all movie long believing they were BFFs, and the lack of the two actresses’ rapport added to the feeling.

I just don't understand the folks at HM & HMM sometimes and their casting decisions. Hemmens and Ghanimé are arguably 2 of their hottest actors, why are they not in a movie together? Do the suits not watch their own movies to see who's giving chemistry and who isn't?  This has been a weird holiday movie season, with more misses than hits so far, and for me that is almost entirely on the casting of the leads. Because if I don't like them together, their standard movie formula isn't gonna work for me at all.

Someone on Reddit pointed me to two fantastic oldies. The Christmas Secret (2014) and The Christmas Note (2015).  Both amazing tearjerkers about how people find miraculous lost connections in a small town. The same small town. I hesitate to describe plots for fear of too many spoilers.

The Christmas Secret is in my top 10, maybe even top 5. The more recent The Christmas Promise reminds me of it in some ways and is one I also really like.

I will check it out.  Is it from the same book author?  Actually, I may have seen it.  It's much newer than the others.  I only started watching these movies in earnest in the last three years.    I have to say that in

Spoiler

The Christmas Note it was so obvious that the two women would be sisters, but I enjoyed the way it unfolded.

Good to see Jamie Lynn Sigler with a nice role.

I don't know what the Venn diagram of Psych viewers and Hallmark Channel watchers is, but there's a lot of overlap in the casting due to Psych doing a lot of filming in Vancouver.  It starred Maggie Lawson, has Sage Brocklebank in a support role appearing in about half of the episodes, and had a multi-episode arc for Rachel Leigh Cook.

Here's a list of the actors I've seen in both -

Ali Liebert, Ben Ayres, Peter Benson, Cory Sevier, Pascale Hutton, Brook d'Orsay, Ashley Williams, Lori Loughlin, Cindy Busby, Bruce Davidson, Steve Bacic*, Vanessa Lachey, Gregory Harrison, Corbin Bleu, Teryl Rothery***, Sara Rue, Dylan Neal, Lauren Soltis**, Patrick Sabbongui, Greyston Holt, Lochlyn Munro.

In addition to all those listed by name, there were a number of other recognizable faces - you know, the ones who play dads and moms and bosses and doctors and neighbors and what not.

* Steve Bacic.  I really like him, why isn't he in more movies?

** Lauren Soltis. She plays the mom or the evil boss in what feels like every other movie.  Most of the time I don't like her.

*** Teryl Rothery. I always enjoy her and she was so cute in Psych, my first time seeing her young that I recall. Aging beautifully too.

I actually started watching Psych because of Hallmark -- they ran it on the mystery channel before the holiday takeover took place. So I'm definitely in the intersecting set of that Venn diagram.  It's fun to do the 'Hey, that's a young XYZ actor" when they pop up.   It seems like Lochlyn Munro shows up in every Canadian production; there might be a law or something.

I like football and I like Tyler H. Hunter King - not so much. But I think she is in the younger-leading-ladies demo that the network is looking for. She has the looks, the hair, and is fine acting-wise.

I admit to really enjoying the Kansas City Hallmark movie.  It has a sweet plot and the characters are likeable.  I like Tyler & Hunter King, and Ed Begley as the Grandpa was excellent.. his character made me shed tears at the end.  I was talking to my Grandson tonite about Christmas traditions and I liked the theme of the movie that the "magic KC hat" was a family tradition.  I know everyone has their own feelings, but this movie is a 'thumbs up" for me.

I watched it and was unimpressed.   I like Tyler Hynes and don't know much about Hunter King, but I didn't see much chemistry there.  I did like the idea of families bonding through sports.  It was certainly the case in my own family, and, to this day, we still get together to watch 'our' teams.

I just didn't like the silly magical hat trope.  That Hunter's character, a woman in her 30's who runs a family business, actually seemed to believe that the Chiefs couldn't win on Christmas Eve if someone in the family wasn't wearing the hat; seemed childish and over the top.  The rest of the family seemed to accept that it was just a fun family custom and not the end of the world when the hat got lost; I don't know why Hunter couldn't grow up and get over herself.

Also, based on the ending, Santa stole the hat from them?  Why?  It made no sense.  Was he mentally ill?  A kleptomaniac?  Wanted to induce panic?

Generally, the script seemed really sketchy and half baked.  It could've been a much better movie with tighter writing.  The cameos by Donna Kelce and various players didn't add much either and I don't think anyone actually believes that Jenna Bush Hager would travel to Kansas City to announce the contest winners on the field.

Ed Begley Jr did a fine job as usual.  His scene at the end where he talks about his late wife's seat at the games was sweet.

I also liked that Tyler's character gave them the seats from the old stadium where they sat prior to Arrowhead being built.  That is exactly the sort of stuff that a true fan would love to have.

Call it childish if you want, but superstitions just like this one abound out there among all sports fans. It always seemed to me that it was more prevalent in baseball, but football fans can be just as rabid. Hockey fans, too.

I was so disappointed in the football movie. It was so silly. They had great actors but a terrible premise. They just kept on going through various dates and visits that had no interest.

Among the cameos that cracked me up was Richard Christie from the Howard Stern show. He’s a Kansas native and legendary Chiefs fan. I could not identify the actual players. Poor Donna Kelce was wooden.

I understand that, I have a lucky jersey that I wear to World Series games when the Guardians get there (so, not often); but, while I like to joke that it makes a difference, I know its just fun. Just like the guy she ran into at the game wearing his lucky socks.  It was her insistence that the hat was crucial to a victory and substituting a new hat would backfire that was just a bit much for me.

Poor Donna Kelce got paid handsomely for that as well as for other gigs she's gotten as the mother to two NFL players, not to mention the Taylor Swift connection.  I wouldn't feel too sorry for her.  Hallmark used her in all their commercials for the movie, so she must draw viewers.  A win-win.

Ewwww!

Part of my lack of enthusiasm for the movie may be rooted in the fact that, being from Cleveland and a lifelong Browns' fan, I find it difficult to sympathize with Chiefs' fans who think their team needs to win every game .  They've already got an embarrassment of riches when it comes to football in Kansas City; wanting more seems a bit greedy.

It's suspected that Richard Christie changed a lot since he actually got a wife and had kids, and now it's all just a goof.  That was apparently his real wife with him wearing a green shirt. She is from Philly, so they have a rivalry.  I stopped listening to the Stern show a long time ago, however.  It's no longer funny or interesting.

Richard Christie comes from rural Kansas.  Some of his bits were things like  "Richard, this is your Dad.  We killed a squirrel for dinner."

Hey neighbor!  I work in Lakewood and live next suburb over.  I have always been more of a baseball fan than football; but, still root for the Browns, even though they've made it very hard since they returned to Cleveland. I have a share of season tickets for the Guardians, haven't even attended a Browns' game since they returned although I used to go a lot back in the late '80's.

I was open to liking the Chiefs movie because it felt like Hallmark was putting a lot of effort behind it with the tie-ins, cast and cameos but I ended up being disappointed.

The cast was good and I thought Hunter and Tyler were decent as a couple but the writing just left something to be desired. For instance, maybe I'd care about the magic hat if I cared whether or not the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl but I don't.  Not all.  In fact, the only football-related thing I liked about the movie is that it showed my team beating them. Make the magic hat about finding the love of you life and maybe then I'd care.

But it was a better movie than Believe in Christmas which was the early movie that tried to make fun of Christmas movie tropes.  So bad. I gave up before the first commercial break and I almost never do that.

I'm about to bail on Believe in Christmas also.  It's just turning out to be a basic Hallmark movie.  Dull.

With the parodies being so popular, I just thought it was Hallmark, finally mocking themselves. I did stick it out, and wondered what the “trope” count would have been, had I bothered to count (it’s too cold here to do much of anything).

I am so envious of everyone here ... you remember all the movie names. I cannot remember the names of the movies from one day to the next. I remember the plots but not the names. So thank you for knowing which ones I am talking about.

I loved the movie last night about the sled dogs with Kim Matula and whatever the actor's name is. (I liked him) Her hair ... short bob, no waves, not parted in the middle!! And she didn't seem to be wearing a lot of makeup.

But mostly I liked that it was different from so many of the Hallmark movies. Sled dogs! A curmudgeon who stayed a curmudgeon - even when somewhat redeemed. But dangling the heroine off a cliff? I am here for it.

My last comment about the Chief's movie? I watched it yesterday with an open mind. I think it was most everything a Hallmark movie usually is supposed to be. Light, fun, Christmas-y, etc. But to me it was so manic that it was exhausting.

I’m going to have to rewatch The Finnish Line because the plot was interesting and different from other movies. Plus, the leads had good chemistry.

Did anyone watch Chabert/Polaha’s movie? It was pretty good. Polaha gets even better looking as he ages!

HMM is airing the new movie A Dance in the Snow. It has Erica Cerra and Mark Ghanime. It looks interesting and Ghanime has been a good addition to the Hallmark family.

I am soooo with you on this. The movie titles that I usually remember are those I’ve rewatched at least twice more, and most likely have saved the movie. In fact, you might be one step even better than me if you recall the plot because I sometimes need folks to post the plot here or else…it’s googling time.

I loved A Christmas Quest. First off, I can't believe this is the first time they've paired 2 of their most popular actors, Kris and Lacey, and what the fuck took them so long. They were great together. I did love all the inside jokes about some of their past movies in addition to the Indiana Jones callouts. There were so many but I loved when Lacey mentioned the tea tasting like twigs and Kris said someone told him you could make tea from it, which was a reference to his movie Pearl in Paradise with Jill Wagner. As soon as Lacey found that box already unlocked, I knew her mom had found it. I was thinking her mom had somehow set up this quest before she died to help her daughter when it seemed like she was getting too caught up and repeating her own patterns, and the man who came to send her on the quest was a friend who helped her set it up. I liked it better that I was wrong and her mom didn't have anything to do with it besides already finding it and leaving the letter for her. The scenery was gorgeous and I'm so glad I use closed captioning, it helped with understanding the language when they spoke it.

I missed The Finnish Line, I was rewatching Christmas Under the Lights on HMM so I'll catch it on the repeat.
