Thanks much  Jaded for the realtor listing . I love, love looking at houses.

Beautiful home and grounds. Yet, so....so squeaky New England white bread-ish. Unoriginal. Cliche'. Some flag motifs, did I see a musket hanging on the wall somewhere? A Paul Revere portrait?

I just gotta say that I still can't believe that Joe & Mika really  hooked up and then went public. I mean, I do believe them. But its just so surreal. And they're on the show together each morning. Its just weird.  And they were both married to other people when the show started.

Janice Min, publisher of The Hollywood Reporter has a great thread on Twitter about Wolff's 2016 piece in THR re Trump, which is what gave him access to the WH. She asked Wolff "what do they think you're doing?" his reply "I have no idea".

The dinner where Bannon spoke to Ailes about Trump,  with the quote about him dying to get to Putin, Wolff hosted it and Min was there, she says everything reported in book is accurate.  MSM is losing their shit because Wolff got all this access and they can't stand it.

I can't wait for JoMika to see that they're in it.  Yikes.

Wolff did the same thing to Murdoch.

This morning either on Stephanie's show after MJ, or on MJ, someone was saying that career hard-news journos don't necessarily respect Wolff, because he'll report conversations as fact.  For instance, Bannon may very well have been standing on the table at dinner screaming that Donald Trump wants to make sweet love to Putin's oil money, but Bannon's assertion may not be true.  That's hearsay in court, and in journalism you'd need a 2nd source to verify Bannon's claim as fact.  I believe Bannon, ofc.
I ordered that book first thing this morning.  I'd have paid 5x more for it.

Wolff is reporting people's opinions of Trump, and what they're dealing with and what he says. Too bad if hard news journos don't like it. They didn't mind reporting that Tillerson said he was a fucking idiot for five days straight.

They don't get to have it both ways.

They can unbunch their panties and just let us enjoy this.

I pre-ordered the book. I cannot fucking wait to read it.

Me! Too! We now have a cease and desist response from Wolff and his publisher: the book is being released 4 days early/today/Friday. Woot.

Ever willing to reserve a seat on someone else's coattails, Joe's latest WaPo opinion piece notes that he is thanked in the author's acknowledgments and appears "in a handful of passages."

Could this be enough to coax Shotgun Barbie into gracing the show with her presence today?

~ For those who pre-ordered via Kindle the book will be delivered at 9am ET today ~

From the podcast linked by Chloesmom in the episodes thread. (And a big ol' tip o' the hat for that, lady!)

They can't get married in the spring because Mika's daughter is graduating in June and they don't want to overshadow her. So, probably sometime during the summer, maybe in the fall, just whenever "it's organic". It gets "complicated" raising daughters whose mothers' lives are in the public eye. Translation: her daughters aren't thrilled about a marriage.

I will scream if I hear "over your skis" one more time. In terms of balance and control, your weight belongs over your skis. You encounter problems when you are "ahead of (or behind) your skis".

I don't for one minute believe that they are able to solve their disagreements by show time at 6am, which I think explains Mika's numerous absences since they went public. And she interjected "Or staying up all night" which I think explains some raggedy-looking mornings and especially That One Morning.

(I decided if I get a tat it's going to say: Accept the good in your life. Like me. I'm a fucking delight.)

Re the Katie Couric podcast:

It's hilarious that Mika thinks she was passed over for a job because of someone else's looks.

Mika you went from newsreader at 3 am to Joe Scarborough's fantasy to cohost to mistress to fiance.   So how is getting a job because Joe thinks you're hot different than the "beauty queens" who beat you out for whatever job you wanted?

So there wasn't a more qualified person for cohost of Morning Joe?  I can think of several women working at MSNBC/NBC back then who run circles around you.  And they are professional enough to know that posing   in Vanity Fair with their leg up in the air does nothing to further the case for women being taken seriously in journalism.

Yeah Joe and CNN's Dr Sanjay Gupta who didn't seem to believe that the doctor had examined an out of shape overweight 71 yr old.

Totally agree. Takes me back to when I was a transcription data analyst in medical records, my job being to verify the dictated text in reports and summaries against the patient demographics: date of birth, male or female, race. Easy example: if I had a "bilateral hysterectomy" surgery report for a "31-year-old Caucasian female" under a medical ID number belonging to a 79-year-old Asian male then I investigated until I could match the report to that gynecologist's actual patient. (Perhaps the ID number dictated by the physician was off by one digit or digits were transposed, or their accent was so thick or they spoke so rapidly that the transcriptionist mis-heard it. Whatever, the patient was misidentified.)

Trump's physical is beyond hinky. Last night it was widely reported that the initial "exceptional" statement released via Trump's staff (ahem) was signed by Dr Ronnie Jackson. Besides the glaring fact that his name is "Ronny" and that doctors don't speak in superlatives, a physician would sign as (WTH, let's go with the WH spelling) Ronnie Jackson, MD (or DO or whatever) but definitely not as Dr Ronnie Jackson. So, hinky meter, pegged.

I missed most of the show this morning - was this mentioned?

The story as Joe tells it is that Mika used to do the newsbreak cut-ins on his show Scarborough Country. But, since Joe did his show from Florida, he never met Mika. When Mika used to toss back to Scarborough Country - "...and now back to Scarborough Country", she would say Scarborough Country in a mocking way. Then when Joe went to NY to audition for the MSNBC morning show, he saw Mika and went to say hello. He then said "By the way, I know you make fun of my show". Mika then supposedly said "how can I make fun of a show I've never seen" (because according to Mika, she talked to her kids and paid her bills in between her newsbreaks). It was after this response  that Joe decided that he wanted Mika as a co-host.

I have no idea how much of this is true, and how much is mad up for effect, but that is the story they tell.

He chased her until she caught him, LOL.

I picked this up along the way, in her book All Things At Once IIRC, although she tells it more daintily than I do. Her career was up and down for many years and she was demoted to doing newsbreaks during the graveyard shift. Joe watched TV when he couldn't sleep and he enjoyed her news updates and programming hand-offs. The timeline tells us that this was right about at the middle of his second marriage. So, sleeping next to Susan while lusting after Mika. He hired her for MJ in a hallway at MSNBC, he was that desperate. Just hit her up for a hire in a hallway and (while both were married) they soon embarked on years of out-of-town "work" trips that were noticed by many of their viewers/anyone at NBC who had functioning eyeballs. Married to Susan 2001-2013, hired Mika in 2007 for the new Morning Joe after the 9pm Scarborough Country tanked.

This is the story I had, that he's lying in bed next to Susan while drooling over MIka reading the news at 3 AM. Gross.

It's SOO obvious, she dressed in skin tight skirts and you know what heels til she caught him, now she's in a turtleneck and a bathrobe and they're in different locations 3 times a week.

You are completely right.  She was wearing YSL and Louboutin heels before Donnie got her a pair.  She ran and exercised a ton and was meticulous about her diet and appearance.  Something changed.  Her legs and news kitten outfits used to be peripheral characters on the show, and then one day, that ended.  She obviously stopped paying attention to careful eating and exercise, and stopped caring about her outfits being sexy and stylish.  I guarantee that coincides with her marriage hitting the skids then a tree.  She was sad, and she didn't need to appeal to Joe to manipulate a commitment from him.
(If Stephanie Ruehl starts wearing fleece and preppy-mom-on-the-weekend shirts, I'm writing a strongly worded letter to MSNBC management.)

Also, Jeff Flake can suck it.  He's not some fucking hero.  A mule is aware that part of what makes America great is a free press, and that persecuting the press is the first step towards a general collapse.  This morning a few guest journos tried to get him to describe why he voted with the President on every vote.  "Well.. I'm a Republican."  Is there a shortage backbones in the US?  Are they stolen?  Are they being warehoused where they store the Ark of the Covenant?

I don't like Flake one little bit. I think he's a poser and I abhor his politics. But, in fairness, what he was saying is that he's a Republican AND he agrees with the positions, so why would he not vote for them?

I was starved for snark-worthy while the forums were down so I bought two Kitty Kelley books via kindle. There was a quote from LBJ in The Family: The Real Story Of The Bush Dynasty that reminded me of our Joey. Nakedly ambitious Bush The Elder went to LBJ for advice re whether he/Bush should run for another term in the House or should he step it up and run for a Senate seat?

"Son. I've served in the House." Pause. "And I've been privileged to serve in the Senate, too." Longer pause. "And they're both good places to serve. So I wouldn't begin to advise you what to do, except to say this - that the difference between being a member of the Senate and being a member of the House is the difference between chicken salad and chicken shit." Long pause. "Do I make my point?"

What is with this show? It's name is Morning Joe? Why? He can't even bother to be on his own set.

I'm a news junkie, 70% MSNBC and 30% CNN. If I'm not actually watching TV it's on in the background. Of all the hosts of all the shows I watch/listen to, none are even remotely like MJ in terms of "Will they make an appearance today/this week?" This question never occurs to me regarding any of the other hosts/shows. Obviously this is how his contract is written, but why? Is the home bunker because of shared custody of his kids? He's not the only host with kids. Joe is whipped so that's how Mika gets away with it but WTF is MSNBC's excuse for catering to Joe? Is MSNBC whipped? I wonder what his peers at MSNBC think about it. Because if I notice it I know damn well they do. Gah, this show has turned me into a what about-er.

Re the Nunes memo.

http://www.newsweek.com/fox-news-host-calls-nunes-memo-distraction-791485

It's basically cherry picking a few facts and twisting them to make it sound bad. It was written by staffers. A member of DOJ wrote a letter to Nunes and told him "don't do this" (release the memo).  To sum up: It's horseshit.

34 minutes ago, Landsnark said:

Is the smoking gun "proof" that the DNC paid a British agent for a dossier on Trump?

Glenn Simpson (Fusion GPS)  testified that The Washington Beacon (conservative paper) initially contacted him to do research on Trump and it started leading him to all these weird deals in Russia and as he was knowledgeable on Russia, he knew Steele,  who was former MI 6, so he contacted Steele to help look into a couple things as he would have contacts inside Russia.  As soon as it was evident Trump was nominee,  the law firm that represents the DNC contacted Simpson (or the company) and continued to pay them to gather info on Trump's activities involving Russians.

It started innocently as oppo research done by Republicans on Trump, but all these unusual deals, Russian oligarchs, just the weird shit Trump is known for being involved in, ie money laundering, bankruptcies, the casino stuff,  where was he getting financing because if you're in real estate and can't get a bank to loan you money, you aren't in real estate very long.

I think even before the law firm took over paying Fusion GPF,  Steele was finding out stuff that alarmed him, he told Simpson, and informed him he was taking what he found to FBI.

The testimony is online if you want to look it up and read it. It's like reading a Tom Clancy novel.  I'm up to page 100.

The "Dossier" is basically several memos outlining information they discovered on deals Trump was doing that went south,  weird amounts of money that would change hands, etc.  from sources Steele had.

Russians are known to use sex and blackmail to control people they're cultivating. Trump has been one such person for years.

Christopher Hardy's new book outlines that he's "ticks every box of someone Putin would try to get dirt on to blackmail".   And since he gets all his financing from Russia, ie he launders money for oligarchs that want to get money out of the country.

If you're interested and have Netflix, there's a documentary series called Dirty Money, and the latest episode is "The Confidence Man", it's all about Trump going back to him starting out. Even the stuff about getting $1 million from his father to start his deals is a lie, he got a lot more than that.  And that in real estate in NYC, he is nothing. He's not even top ten in the list of developers.

Thank you for the link and the synopsis. Regarding dirty money let us not forget Daddy Trump and the casino chips, which was So Incredibly Illegal.

Quote

Fred gave Donald the equivalent of an interest-free loan by buying $3.5 million of chips from the Trump Castle casino-hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. According to an article in the Atlantic City Press, a lawyer representing Fred Trump showed up at the Castle on Dec. 17, deposited a $3.35 million certified check, bought 670 $5,000 chips at a high-stakes blackjack table, stuck the chips in a bag and left. The next day, Fred wired $150,000 to the casino and bought another 30 chips. Pretty slick.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/business/1991/01/29/from-father-fred-to-the-donald-cashing-in-chips-off-the-old-block/40928ac7-ce98-46b8-b257-b6a5893461fb/?utm_term=.cbab35887c75

And yet, he was an honored telephone guest on MJ for weeks/months because they are that desperate to be relevant. I will never believe that they weren't wanting/expecting to hole up for three days at Trump's place during New Year's (but he chased them off, LOL). Not too concerned about the kids the kids the kids then, were they? Joe: "I was there for 30 minutes, chasing an interview."

You know, if I was Mika I'd be so annoyed I had to shlep in to the studio while Joe gets to sleep late and roll out of bed just in time to run a comb through his head nest and put on the top half of a suit. Or maybe she's in NY when he's in the CT bunker, I guess that's possible.

Millennium post about grieving mothers endless interviews on tv

Sorry couldn't figure out how to post from one thread to another.

But YES YES YES it never fails to amaze that people who are experiencing the deepest trauma and grief play it out on tv. And yes I would kill the reporter

As far as I am concerned, that mother can play out her grief any damn way she pleases. If it makes her feel like she's doing something by screaming at Trump on television, have at it. If she wants to crawl into a hole and sob to herself, fine. I'm not going judge or condemn how any human being chooses to respond to the most horrific trauma they will likely ever experience.

Fuck you Mika.  This is the second time she has tormented that pig.  I let the first time pass as I thought maybe she didn't realize what she was doing but now seeing her use the piglet as a squealing prop to cover her "angst" as she is ranting about their nobody cares and I'm pretty sure nobody asked personal life that does it for me.  I watched a replay of their interview with Eric Bolling where they were supposed to cover the opiod epidemic as he lost his only child but she just had to insert his getting canned and "we'll address that at a later date" into what was clearly a beyond painful conversation for him.  She really is just a mean little thing.  I hope they dump both of them when their contracts are up as MSNBC has a very deep bench.
