I can't believe this girl is only 16 years old - she's amazing and so composed singing at the Oscars, even after being hit by that blue flag (she's an American from Hawaii - yes, it is indeed a state and part of the USA)...

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Auli'l Cravahlo perform 'How Far I'll Go' from MOANA

Those Affleck brothers are something else - the older one (allegedly) cheated on his wife with the nanny, and the younger one (allegedly) sexually harassed two female co-workers.

Seriously that ending was insanity!!! I can't believe they read the wrong winner. Just bizarre. In some ways, it was ironic. because everyone I know that has watched LaLa has said they loved it until the end, the ending disappointed them, which is sorta what happened tonight for the film,

I am very proud and glad for how the LaLaLand people handled it. The LaLaLand's speech was amazing. They spoke of ideals and then moments later lived those ideals. I was proud that he showed the card and stayed there to present the award to Moonlight. Although it did have that Carrie Prom scene feel to it.

Congrats to Moonlight, the Underdog won in dramatic fashion. I hear its an amazing movie. Definitely going to see it.

So 4 out of 6, ain't bad... plus for a few minutes there it was 5.

Overall, I think it was an average Oscars. I loved so many of the speeches, but there was no big speeches, I will remember tomorrow. Proud that people spoke their minds. They were all heartfelt and genuine. I did cry during the en Memoriam and the segment about how universal cinema is. Overall, it was good with some really unique moments.

To go back to the Oscars and the Best Picture mix up, I watched a clip of Emma Stone doing press and she said she had the Best Actress card since she won so she didn't know what that story was about.

Emma didn't realize there are two cards for each award.

Here's an article that talks about it.

http://deadline.com/2017/02/oscar-best-picture-screwup-the-real-story-1202009744/

I also read something somewhere and I can't find it now that talked about Emma Stone specifically and that she was a little embarrassed/annoyed to find out about the two card thing after she'd already made that statement.

Thanks for the article. I was wondering how it could have happened. Although, I really don't understand why Warren Beatty didn't just ask for the correct envelope. It clearly said actress & listed Emma Stone. It would have been awkward. But that level of awkward would have been helluva lot better than what happened instead. I really feel bad for LaLaLand & Moonlight. LaLaLand got its dreams snatched from them, and Moonlight didn't get the spotlight it deserved. They both didn't deserve that when the mistake was preventable. Seriously, who doesn't correct a mistake before announcing a complete unrelated winner?

And Casey Affleck won. Hollywood your self righteous and you suck.

Its funny how they black listed-rightly- Nate Parkers chances for his rape case past when Birth of Nation was a contender but gave an actual statue to a sexual harasser. But hey Casey is white and has a famous Hollywood heavy hitter for a brother.

Roman Polanski raped a child and Hollywood praises him. It's disgusting.

Yep. He even confessed to it and called her his victim.

Woody Allen married his adopted daughter and has been accused of raping his step daughter.

Marlon Brando sexually assaulted his costar in Last Tango in Paris so that the rape scene in the film would be more "authentic".

The list goes on- Mel Gibson, Alec Baldwin, Johnny Depp etc

Im sorry privileged men getting away with sexual or verbal violence and abuse against women just gets me worked up.

Viola Davis stood out to me, not even for the content so much as how much passion she put into delivering it.  I laughed when Kimmel joked that she was now going to win an Emmy for her speech since that was pretty much what I was thinking (if it were possible)

But yeah, nothing else was that memorable.  I was impressed how poised Emma Stone was and her humbleness by including that comment about needing to grow and learn still.  I found it odd/interesting when Casey Aflect thanked Denzel for all he taught him about acting and the camera cut to Washington and he did NOT look happy at all.

I think we have to remember that these are vain people who did not wear their reading glasses.  Anything in the small print I will bet you was beyond their ability to actually see.

LOSER: FRED BERGER

Video evidence strongly suggests that the La La Land producer launched into his acceptance speech after learning that his movie didn'tin fact, win.

Yeah, I noticed that as well, but honestly, I'm not sure I blame him.  He had this big platform to says thanks on and when would he have the same kind of chance?  And the other guys got to say their thanks and I'm guessing things were still in flux when he was pushed forward to speak.  He was sticking to the script.

I don't blame Beatty. He was confused and I think showed it to Faye Dunaway, to maybe cross check himself but she thought he was messing around and she  just blurted out La La Land because she saw Emma Stone's name.

Talk about your series of unfortunate events. I'm glad Moonlight won in the end

I didn't watch it at all, so I couldn't say one way or the other. But after I posted this I did notice that one of the comments on that article said that Fred Berger refused to speak twice and then finally gave in and gave his speech, but noted at the end that they had not won.  So maybe the Loser designation was unfair.

The whole thing seems to have been just a comedy (tragedy?) of errors.

I don't blame Beatty or Dunaway either Clearly the production people are more at fault for giving the wrong card on the first place because even if it had clicked with the presenters there still would have been that awkward ummm we got the wrong card moment. I think it was just like others said a comedy of errors.

I feel bad thought that Moonlights win has been overshadowed by poor LaLaLand sympathies and commentary on how they handled the fiasco.

Plus, there's no way to recapture that moment of suspense followed by pure joy when your name is announced.  There's still a shock of happiness I'm sure but there's no way it can compare if they are up on the stage and still not sure if there hadn't been a mistake.

Apparently Beatty saw that it was a mistake and was for Best Actress but Faye Dunaway grabbed it and announced LaLaLand because she was supposed to be the one reading it out loud and she was going for her moment.

I remember Mahershala Ali from way back on Crossing Jordan and The 4400.  It is nice to see him win.

I was rooting for Ryan Gosling to win Best Actor.  He lost it before and for this movie, he took piano lessons and practiced 6 hours a day so that the shots could be of his hands even though the soundtrack would have someone else playing the music. That kind of dedication to a role deserves a reward.  He's also been very eloquent about his wife Eva Mendes spending the time to take care of their children so he could have the time to do the role.

He clearly realized something was up but he clearly didn't know what and he still went ahead and cued up the reveal by saying "And the winner is" and then he IMO wimped out and HANDED the card to Dunaway to look at.  She took it and barely glanced at it before announcing the winner thinking he'd been playing up the stall for laughs.  I don't actually like Faye Dunaway but I don't think she did anything but compound the mistake in her rush to not keep everyone waiting any longer.  People see what they expect to see so even though it also said Emma Stone, that part was easily ignored since it also listed the name of the movie - one widely expected to win.

^This guy, Jordan Horowitz I thought was the hero of the moment. That takes a lot of chutzpah to put your own disappointment aside and be so adamant about telling us. He broke through the confusion and really did his best to reclaim the moment for Moonlight - despite losing so much himself.

Totally agree it was a series of unfortunate events. But it said actress on the envelope too, in largish print. I had completely forgot that Faye Dunaway actually said it out loud. If I remember correctly, the last time she presented on a show there was a blunder as well - definitely not this big. Perhaps she should take a break from presenting at awards show. I do think @BkWurm1's point about the glasses is probably accurate for both Dunaway & Beatty

I thought her speech at the Golden Globes was more powerful. Also she has given more memorable speeches with her TV wins. Her Emmy speech a few years ago slayed so much it should be in a acceptance speech hall of fame. So for me, perhaps she was a victim of her own previously amazing speeches. This one was good, but she has done better.

Casey Affleck thanked and quoted Denzel in his Golden Globe acceptance speech, maybe his man crush on Denzel is wearing on Denzel. Also its well known that Denzel is not an awards show man. I always think the cutting to other people during speeches is awkward. It must be horrible to know you just lost and have a camera on you watching your every moment of emotions, while somebody else gets to give their thanks.

Apparently there was some disagreement as to who would call out the winner.  Beatty got the "And the winner is" and Dunaway won the actual name.  Usually that award is given out by the current hot ator and actress but it's the 50th anniversary of Bonnie and Clyde.

Yeah, I found that an odd choice.  Was Bonnie and Clyde a bigger movie than I thought?  Personally I've always avoided it because the real life pair sounded like awful people.

I just finished bingeing all 6 seasons of Drop Dead Diva on Netflix this weekend and I couldn't help thinking that some ridiculous lawsuit based on this Best Pic mixup would've been tailor-made for Jane to litigate.

How are the later seasons?  I watched the first couple of seasons but then dropped off.

Bonnie and Clyde was very big back in it's day.  There weren't any real blockbusters till Jaws and later Star Wars so Bonnie and Clyde was about as big as the moved got.  I never saw the movie but I remember the song being played a lot even years after the movie.

I wanted to like DDD but there were waaaaaay to many not funny jokes and cliches about the woman who's life she took over in the first few episodes.  Did it get better?

By S4-S5 the Jane/Greyson Bad Timing Ship Stall and the Will He or Won't He Find Out got a bit ridiculous, but that was kind of the whole premise of the show. There was some nice character development: over time Kim was shown to have a lot more layers, and Stacy challenged herself professionally in a way that gave her more depth too. Jane's and Deb's moms both recurred for multiple eps which enriched Jane's backstory a lot. There ended up being kind of a guardian angel revolving door which was a little weird.  And there were a lot of fun guest stars.

The show did a few things that surprised me, especially at the end, but in a good way.

It smoothed out a lot, yeah. The more you learned about both Jane (New and Original Flavors) and Deb, the more they became real people and less 2-dimensional caricatures.

On a different note....

I quit watching TVD several seasons ago (during the Kai arc, whatever year that was).  But the closer we get to the series finale, the more curious I'm finding myself to see how it all ends.  I don't have any investment in any particular ending....I'm just oddly curious.  Anyone else in the same boat, or am I paddling by myself? Lol.

We've had a few days off from rain here in Norcal, but last week had heavy flooding in downtown San Jose because some creeks ran over, and power has been out for days in the Santa Cruz mountains.  I called my friend who lived up there to make sure she and her family were ok and she the things she missed the most with no electricity is her hairdryer and pinterest.

I like inclement weather, but this is getting absurd. My condolences.

Moana star Auli’i Cravalho cast in Jason Katims NBC pilot Drama High
NATALIE ABRAMS FEBRUARY 27, 2017 AT 7:21PM EST
http://ew.com/tv/2017/02/27/moana-aulii-cravalho-nbc-pilot-drama-high/

Quote

Less than 24 hours after her stunning performance at the Oscars, Moana‘s Auli’i Cravalho has been tapped to star in Jason Katims’ NBC pilot Drama High, EW has confirmed.

Based on the book of the same name from Michael Sokolove and the life of its subject, Lou Volpe, Drama High goes inside the high school drama department in a working-class town. Led by an impassioned teacher, the students and their performances electrify their area.

Sixteen-year-old Cravalho, who voiced the title character in Disney’s Oscar-nominated animated feature, will play one of the students, Lilette. (Deadline first reported the casting.) Here’s the character description: “Lilette works part-time after school at the local town diner. She is so much more than Vanessa, her single mother, thinks she is. Lilette has big dreams, and joining the drama department is one of them.”

Why are some shows not airing during sweeps?

No Madam Secretary for a while now and I don't think it's because of Tim Daly's accident!

I really enjoyed this article! It was nice reading about all the ships! OMG the poor Greys Anatomy people who had their couple get together and one of them killed off after a while! Maybe we haven't got it too bad with Olicity yet!
