Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

Message added by CM-CrispMtAir,

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your keys.  I’m usually pretty good about my keys—I keep  my car keys and house keys on a separate chain.

About 20 years ago, on the night before Thanksgiving, I decided to do my shopping at a store near my school in Brooklyn (they had a parking lot).  I got home at about 7pm, and to my dismay—no house keys!  I dumped my purse out on the seat—no keys!  I called the store, but they had no record of anyone finding keys.  My next door neighbor, who had my spare keys wasn’t home, and their cousins, who lived around the corner, weren’t home either.  What happened in the long run was that I ended up driving back to Brooklyn, and fortunately for me, the custodians were working in the building and let me in.  It seems that the keys fell out of my jacket pocket and were on the floor of my coat closet…..

Another time, I got home on a Friday night about midnight and had no keys(I had left them on my desk).  This time I there was no custodian in the building, and I ended up buying a ladder and climbing in my bedroom window.    I am getting far to old for this.

Scarlett45, I hope that you have good luck with your locksmith!

I haven't gotten my hair cut since before COVID.

Me either professionally.  I cut mine myself, with help from my mother.  😃 Whenever, covid gets better and I plan to do it, we get a spike again and I back off.  Even though I’m vaxed, I’m still cautious of breakthrough cases.  My parents church didn’t have in person services last week, due to covid cluster in church members. Fourteen positive that I know of and all but one were fully vaxed.  All but a couple were asymptomatic.  With so many breakthrough cases, it really makes me wonder if everyone who says they are fully vaxed is being honest.  🥺

One of my grandsons attended Space Camp (he was in Aviation Challenge) last week in Huntsville Alabama. He had a great time. It’s a very professional program. It’s a great team building experience.  Just throwing it out there if anyone has ever thought about it.

@Scarlett45  :  I have checked and the nearest Crumbl store to my home is nearly 200 miles away in New Hampshire.  There is also one in the Outer Banks of NC, where my brother has a vacation home.  I must let him know about this.
I must order some of these cookies ASAP.  They all look yummy—any suggestions?

I think they always have the milk chocolate, then they have two non chocolate flavors, two non traditional and one other chocolate.

A serving is a half a cookie, I don’t know which adult would actually eat half a cookie, but it’s nice to cut them in half and try more than one flavor. The flavors change week to see, so we won’t order again until there’s a flavor my Mom is into.

Thanks. I now don’t want to take my phone out of my pocket on walks. I still can’t believe I didn’t hear or see them fall.

As I have shared with you guys, I have been losing weight since October. It hasnt been super fast, about 1lb-1.5lbs a week (normal, but not anything exceptional). This week I had a lot going on socially for the first time in a long time and I had a love affair with these cookies from Crumbl Cookies in addition to some restaurant meals.

@Scarlett45 I both hate you and love you right now. There is a freakin’ store about 30 minutes away from me. Every one of those flavors sound incredible. Well, Monday is my birthday so there might be a lunchtime road trip in my future…

Love you and hate you! 💕

I am so sorry for the key loss stories.  This is the exact reason I changed my locks to code locks.  Now I do not have to carry any keys (my car has a fob instead of a key).  The code locks are easy to install and program.  You can give someone their own code (like a housekeeper, for instance), and then change or remove that code when you want.  If you need someone to into your house--like a neighbor who will feed the cat--you can give them the code over the phone instead of a physical key.  You can even get a code lock that has wifi, but I have never used that feature.  The ability to "rekey" just by changing the code is one of the best features.  At my old house I had Schlage code locks, and the builder put Kwikset on my new house.  They cost more at first, but I figure I have saved a lot not having to have someone rekey my locks.  I just do it myself.  I don't have to worry about someone having my key, or finding my lost key.  I think it is much more secure.  They do run on batteries, but they are very easy to change out.  I will never go back to keyed locks again.

I had never heard of Crumbl until a couple of weeks ago.  My neighbor invited me over for dinner, as they had some friends from out of town.  Turns out, they were a young couple that were getting ready to open their own Crumbl franchise in N Dakota.  The young man had been flying all over the country helping and advising owners get their stores open, and now he was opening his own.  I learned a lot about how they make and decorate, and it was very interesting.  There is not one around here, but I understand they are extremely popular.

Ugh, losing keys is the worst! @CalicoKitty I need to look into changing over my locks.

I got up this morning with a headache and my shoulders and jaw hurting. I think I must have been clenching my jaw and tensing my shoulders in my sleep. I had upsetting dreams so it was probably a reaction to them. Then I went outside in the hot sun to clean up my lawn (and it’s not even done). Despite all of the sunscreen I put on, I still got red and blotchy. Now I just want to nap for the rest of the day.

Yes code locks are AMAZING. Unfortunately with my sister we have to have a physical key, I could have a code lock up stairs at my house but it wasn’t worth it to do both.

Now I’m mourning the loss of my key chain. It was amazing! It’s only $11 on eBay! Should I buy it again????

I would say yes buy it again if only for the fact as soon as you buy it you will find your keys.

@Scarlett45, I hate to say it, but did you check the garbage can for your keys? Didn't you say that you took garbage out on your way out the door? It doesn't hurt to retrace your steps. If you drove to where you walked, I'd look on the floor of the car and between the seats. That's a typical spot to find things! If your keychain is that unique, maybe someone found it? We follow a local page on FB for our town and people often post about finding various items. Sometimes they turn them in to the local police. I hope the keys turn up, but just in case, it wouldn't hurt to buy a new key ring on ebay!

Yes I checked the recycle bin, the trash can, the walk way and I went BACK around the park retracing my steps all the way. I did walk to the park (same one I met Park Guy- he’s been texting me by the way, if he says anything note worthy I will report).

We ended up getting a hybrid lock, it can be opened with a code, with proximity of an approved phone running the app, a fingerprint, or a physical key.  A little more pricy but it covered everyone's preferred method of entry.

I’m so happy!  Update on my friend who had massive heart attack and was unresponsive for over a week.    Today when his mom came into his room, he looked her in the eye! Good News Sunday indeed! Our pastor, who I've  mentioned had a heart event and was put in a medically induced coma with a vent, was not very alert or responsive when first brought out of the coma. I remember comforting his daughter who was devastated because she thought her daddy would wake up and immediately be his old self. It took a few days but he did eventually get there. There were some funny stories about some of the things he said in the interim. I started to tell you all of this a few days ago but I knew that each person's situation is different . I am so happy for him and those who love him. I remember our great relief when we knew our pastor was not only going to live but be able to live a full life. I pray the same for your friend.

Good news Sunday...this is one day's pickings.

Btw, my tomato growing "expertise" is:

1. Ask for tomato plants for a combined mother's day/ birthday gift (a week apart.)

2. Also say, but you have to plant them as part of my gift.

3. Then I totally ignore them..if they grow they grow, if they don't ,they don't.

4. Which I can do because my husband watches them zealously, and picks them every day, right before "the squirrels were going to steal them."

(He cracks me up, every day he says "I picked more of "your" tomatoes before the squirrels could get them!   The squirrels were waiting on the fence waiting to get them, but I woke up early to beat them!" (he swears he knows what time they all wake up.)😂

My family said I need to offer some to the neighbors, because they still haven't eaten all the tomatoes I gave them. I saw my next door neighbor out today, and said "Shirley, do you want some tomatoes from my garden?"

She said "I was going to try to get you to take some of mine!"😁

Do you think a food bank would take some?

Or nah..because they're home grown?🤔

Those are gorgeous!  If a food bank won't take them, check and see if there's a local church or soup kitchen serves meals to the indigent.  They are usually thrilled to have fresh ingredients and would probably be willing to give any extras to their guests to take home for later.

My church serves dinner at a local hunger center twice a month and the volunteers take great pride that everything they serve is homemade.  They would be happy to put those tomatoes to use in salads and lots of other dishes.

happy sunday friends. we decided, rather individually in fact, that today was a church at home day for us. then we all spent the afternoon napping. i have zero energy and could go back to sleep. so its been a nice quiet day around here. waiting to watch the end of the olympics here soon, then early to bed.

yesterday we had a day trip to a resort semi-locally. it was a hot but beautiful day. sat in the shade of palm trees while hubby swam. i choose not to because of covid risk. we followed that time with a couples massage then dinner at a fancy steak restaurant. it was so nice to have that special time away enjoying a day of r&r.

So yesterday was the BIG LUNCH with my friend H and his fiancée S.

SO good news, S liked me! She said I was very easy to talk to and out going, and she had heard a lot about me, and had known H and I had been friends a long time.

My impression of S, on a shallow note I expected her to be so much TALLER, she must've been wearing heels in all the photos I saw, because she is so small. Her nails and winged liner was FIERCE, me likely. I want to copy her nail design one of these days. She had a very mellow chill vibe, I can see her being a lot of fun but not bringing drama or hysterics into the relationship which H does not need, he cannot handle that. Based on what she has said about her life so far, I am getting the impression that she is looking for a stable man to take care of her, she got to be in her 30s and realized giving attention to "party dudes" was not advantageous so she started looking for a guy interested in marriage. She wants to have a child. So long as she is a dutiful wife to H, and he is fine with that, that will be okay.

H is very responsible and intentional with his finances- they are going to move in together in September with planning a wedding for next September. I told H this morning I was very glad they were waiting a full year given they haven't dated very long. H agreed that he did want to wait a year. He asked me what I thought of her.

I am very glad I made a good impression!

No way! I quit doing the 4 letter C word (cook) after my five kids all left home (my last two, my sons, left in July 1998 to join the Marines together.)

Since I got married at 17 (and had my first daughter 7¾  short months later😁) that was almost 30 years of figuring out what to cook  for 7 people 3 X  a day...

Also, I've never canned anything in my life, I'd probably give us both food poisoning.😜🤣

PS my two kids who live in Bensenville (Illinois) just just told me they heard a tornado siren there. (There is one town between us and them)

What I did with all of my tomatoes (back in 2018 Husband lost his mind and planted something like 85 tomato plants - seriously!) was blanch them, remove the skins, stuff them into quart jars whole and canned them. It really wasn’t hard… just time consuming because I could only boil so many jars at a time. I still have some down the basement, and I just grab 5 or 6 quarts, run them through a food mill and make a ton of sauce. Then I freeze the sauce in quart Ziploc bags and use as needed.

But I love to cook, so…

Remember my friend who lost a family member, and I said it might have been preventable. They confirmed he died of COVID-pneumonia. He and his wife seem to be COVID deniers. Please take this (Pandemic) seriously.
