Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

Message added by CM-CrispMtAir,

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

This week is crap. Total crap.  Input appreciated!

1. Dx'd with shingles, am on anti viral meds. How long until one feels better?

2. Slated for vacation to Playa del Carmen in two weeks. DD, myself, several friends and their moms are ticketed. They closed the US Consulate there for undisclosed security threats. There is no way I can take my kid there. WWYD? Freck.

Liking in sympathy, not hearting that you have shingles. That sounds positively miserable.

What the hell with this world, seriously.

Mr Madtown had shingles on his upper thighs years ago. The meds helped the pain, but it was months before he was fully healed. It was horrible and so much pain. I hope you heal in time for your trip.

@bigskygirl - I feel for you & your husband having to change doctors (when you don't want the change.)  I've been seeing the same rheumatologist for almost thirty years & can't imagine him not being my doctor when/if he retires.  Hopefully not any time soon.  I don't want to bore you all with his great qualities except that he really cares for his patients. Wishing you all the best with the new doc.

Here is an excerpt about pornography from growing up Duggar. No man addicted to pornography will ever be content with a real woman because the woman does not exist men who feed their minds on pornography start looking at women as sex objects to fulfill your out-of-control desires instead of looking at women as someone to be protected love and care for. They become self-centered and when they start a relationship they focus on what they can get out of it instead of what they can put into it. This mindset eventually leads to the destruction of what could have been a fulfilling marriage. Why do I think that the girls are talking about your brother Smuggar.

Catfin ... I had shingles years ago, and I HAD to get well fast ... my small business depended upon it. I went right from the doctor's office to a health food store and spent a lot of money on everything they recommended. Somehow, someway, between the doctor's prescription and the health food store's suggestions, I was recovered in two weeks. So I always suggest looking at alternatives. Good luck ...

Someone asked "What happened to jamberry" in the Dullard thread.

It is still around. I have a friend who still uses it and I think my sister-in-law might still be a rep, but I removed myself from her Facebook page for jamberry sales.

I'm stuck in VA for an extra 2 days visiting Mr Jyn, so as much as it's a pain in some ways, I'm not totally complaining about the extension of my visit, Just hope my daughter doesn't have her baby before her her due date (19th). Anyone up for a baby pool? We don't know the sex, and it appears to be a relatively big baby, but beyond that we're just waiting on the details!

There has been a propane explosion about two or three miles from my house about a hour ago. Heard a loud boom and shaking. Scary! One poor man was burned, and there has been other injuries. Heard some sirens, and they have the area closed off with warnings to stay away.

BSG - that would scare me to death. hate fire unless its in the fireplace where it belongs.

we are expecting a week of rain. i hear the up in santa barbara they are evacuating again, ahead of the rain, due to the horrible floods from january. this is the 4th time these folks have been evacuated. i personally love the rain and look forward to it, with the exception of having to drive in it a few times this week for scheduled appointments.  i kinda wish it was next week when my grandson will be home on spring break but hey - he likes the rain too so getting damp at school won't bother him.

Update...still looking set to get back home on Thursday morning. Daughter says we got about 20" of snow since last night and it's still coming down slowly, on and off...She and her husband have our snow blower, but will probably not have the chance to do anything toward clearing our drive before I get home, so I guess I'll just have to get into the drive as far as I can then wade the rest of the way into the house when I get back. Since our driveway is about 400 ft long, my suitcase might need to live in the car for a day or two until we get that sorted out!

I hope you made it home okay. Never fun driving on snow and ice. We had a rain and snow mixture storm hit this morning. The snow is melting causing some flooding. We are expecting more snow this weekend in time for St. Patrick's Day.

And on another note...I do not know if my anxiety is acting up or I am in major hyperthyroid land again. I am waiting to hear from the specialist to see if I need to go in for a blood test or an appointment. Today is the last day for the two weeks of using the one eye ointment. My eyes are feeling better, and my eye doctor told me to keep the ointment in case my eyes start bothering me a lot again. I feel like I am ready to start bouncing off the ceiling right now. The specialist I see now believes I am very sensitive to hyperthyroid symptoms.

How interesting...I got a phone call from the Great Falls Clinic about my one email I sent them about a certain doctor. The person I talked to ask me to explain the things I said in my email. She even ask me if I wanted to see the doctor again or talk with him. Really... I told them I am seeing another specialist, and I feel he is taking good care of me. A few thoughts have cross my mind. 1. Have other patients been complaining about said doctor. 2. Worried about possible lawsuit or complaint with state medical board. 3. Damage control. or 4. All the above. Funny how they waited almost two months to contact me after I sent out email (got in their spam file by mistake right *rolling eyes*) The person I talk with was very concern and felt bad about everything. She did ask me about my multiple health issues and when I told her what they were she did not sound surprise. It would be cold day in you know where before I see or talk with the quack doctor.

I am thinking about sending an email to the person I talk to because it looks like she is a clinical manager/clinical research manager at the clinic. I have no idea why she was the one who called me and why she ask me if I wanted to talk to the one doctor. I just find it all interesting.

For any of my fellow metro Atlanta snarkers who know about Tripp Halstead they posted on Facebook and local news that the poor child died this afternoon. Never met him but have been following for several years.   Very sad for them.

I hit "like" and then realized how that made me feel.  For the last five and a half I (along with so many other people) have been following him.  My heart breaks for his family today.  It seems like his death all happened very quickly (seemed to be OK for Tripp on Wednesday and then diagnosed with pneumonia earlier yesterday).

So, so much sadness right now - I heard about Tripp as well (so touching for that family that this little boy was so well known across America!).  And the bridge situation in Florida (somebody WAY higher on the food chain than me needs to speak to THE BOSS and ask politely that Florida get some slack.  That state has been beat all to hell and back over the last year).  And then McSomebody FINALLY getting word that he’s been, in fact, fired.

JK, I don’t care about that guy.

I am heartbroken over the bridge collapse.  That is just so tragic.

Yall, I got bifocals this week.  I’m a changed woman.  I’ve changed from my perpetual squinty eyed view of the world to constantly moving my head so that I’m either catching the sweet spot for distance or the sweet spot for reading.  I’ve changed from Popeye to a bobble head.

the baby is a boy.  March 20.  8 lbs, 6 oz.  19 inches.  He’s a little butterball.

For our March Madness fans - Just a shout out to the  UMBC  Retrievers!!!!  They beat #1 Virginia Cavaliers last night 74-54.  UMBC was #16 seed.  I'm not a basketball fan at all even tho Mr Barb & my BIL live for it.  Mr Barb, my brother, my BIL & nephew are all alumni of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, our more local university & were ecstatic they even made the tournament yet alone won against #1.  The University of Maryland sports are better known for their College Park  (Terps) team  so for UMBC to come out of the shadows is great. The Terps didn't even make the tourney this year much to the chagrin of Son of Barb who is a graduate of College Park.

Loving all the baby pool guesses. Daughter & son-in-law coming over for dinner tonight, so I do kinda hope she doesn't go into labor in the middle of that! I'm guessing boy, March 23, 9 lb 3 oz, 21" long.

Thanks also for all the concern over my getting back home. Son-in-law was actually able to find time to come over & plow a path up the drive for the car and a path for me to get to the door, so it was less of an ordeal than it might have been!

Also note that Little Caesar's made an offer a couple of days before that game.  That said if the #16 team beat the #1 team then on April 2nd everyone would get a free lunch special - which is a 16 oz drink and the pizza is like 1/2 of a deep dish pizza - availible between 1130 am and 1 pm.   So, get a free pizza and that the Retrievers!!!  Hubby looked it up and said they were probably pretty confident making that offer because 16 had NEVER beaten the top seed in the history of march madness.

Blood tests show I am hypothyroid, so increase in the med dosage. Explains why I have been feeling like crap. It is weird. At first I felt like I was hyperthyroid and now I feel like I am hypothyroid. Throw in the low vitamin D levels, and I feel like something the cat drag in. At least my eyes are feeling better.

Please ask them to check your T3.  I went from hyper to hypo and then became nonfunctional til a wonderful doctor found I needed T3 added to the mix.

According to the thyroid ultrasound I had in December 2015, I have a nonfunctional thyroid three years after the radiation iodine treatment. I am also very sensitive to hyperthyroid symptoms, but I wonder if I am also sensitive to hypothyroid symptoms also. I think the wacky Montana weather we had since December is a part of the reason why I am hypothyroid since the endocrinologist told me any changes in the weather or season can cause a change in my thyroid hormone levels.

Indeed, which is why we keep checking them!  Raising the Vit D level should help some too which I see you are doing.  Good luck.  I was miserable a long time before I lucked into the doctor who changed my life. He held my hand in his and said "your quality of life is important to me.  There are lots of things to try and we will try all of them til we find what works for you".  I thought I was hallucinating!  He did fix me though.  then he went concierge and I had the darnedest time finding another doctor who would handle me the same way, but I did and then we moved to another state and it is my oncologist who took over my thyroid treatment because I just got tired of the other doctors telling me my regimen that I was on for almost 20 years would "kill me".  What?  The oncologist poo-pooed that and said he would monitor me.  Every time I ask him if he is retiring or moving.  I might have to move to follow him!!

In my case, the out of town nitwit doctor told me the radiation treatment would improve my quality of life. Really... I am still waiting for the quality of life. I know the endocrinologist I see now would have worked hard before and after the treatment to make sure I was physically and mentally fine. I know he is frustrated I am not feeling well. He would have suggested doing the one treatment, but I know he would have done it the right way and would have listen to me when I said I started feeling like crap within two weeks after I started taking the one thyroid med. In fact, he has given me a lot of good advice and told me things the other idiot doctor did not tell me aka the change in weather could cause changes to my thyroid levels, what type of calcium I should take due to the digestive issues I have, the best ways to take my thyroid med, let me rant about not feeling well, said he was sorry I am not feeling well and wants me to get better, ordering blood tests and other tests when I say I do not feel well, and did the thyroid ultrasound when I mentioned I was having problems swallowing without questioning why I might or might not need it. I cannot say the same thing about the other doctor who shall remain nameless.

Lotta snow here.

I still feel like crap after recovering from the flu. I don't mean I have pneumonia or something serious. I think the flu, the tooth extraction, the snotty sinus thing and the stomach virus, all back to back, really knocked me out!

I feel like I have the flu for about a week. It's probably is the blasted hypothyroid symptoms. I feel better today since I took something last night to help with the flu like symptoms plus I started taking the higher dose of the thyroid medication today, plus a nice warm bath does help. I am still tired and feel like crap in the morning since it can take awhile for the thyroid med to kick in. The only problem is once I take a higher dosage for hypothyroidism I probably will be hyperthyroid in about four weeks. Enough to drive a person batty!
