Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

We already live in a world of "vaccine passports". Children must be vaxxed before entering school. Certain countries, including the US, require certain vaxxes before entering and certain jobs require vaxxes before being hired. Exceptions are made all the time for different reasons. I wouldn't worry too much about vaccine passports.

Hopefully someone here will post a picture of a puppy. I love dogs!

I know you asked for doggie pics, but I hope a cat pic will do.  This is my cat Ivy from earlier today when she was power-napping like a diva/boss!  She is sneaky, stubborn, willful and fun as heck!

It seems like I read that the President would not ask the the prove of a Covid vaccine be on a passport.

Immunizations never on your passport, but customs can ask for verification that you have received your vaccinations.  As of right now, you have to have a negative covid test before entering the US from abroad.  Other countries have their own restrictions.

I live in a "severe risk level" county in southeast Michigan. It's scary here. I cringe whenever people come within ten feet of me, but I am the only person in my condo building who wears a mask to and from my car.

you are my neighbor, I am in southeast Michigan as well. 🙂

MrCrazy8s is facilities for a nationwide company. He says it is worse now trying to get covid deep cleans done each night than it was at any other time in the last year. They have locations in MI, upper and lower peninsula, also WI where every single employee has tested positive and they have had to temp. close those locations. there is no one left to work.

Southeast MI here, too.  This afternoon my CEO pushed back the start our return-to-office date to 6/7 (limited capacity).  We don't anticipate the office being at full capacity before 9/1.

I didn't even know tutoring in kindergarten was a thing. These poor little 5 year olds. The world needs to slow down and let kids be kids.

In my school district kindergarteners are expected to know the alphabet and be able to write it before school starts. If they're not reading or doing single digit math by Christmas they're labeled "behind" and given extra help.

I HATE COVID. Why won't it just go away already? Doesn't it understand everyone hates it and it's not welcome at the party?

The problem is it has a standing invitation to all of the non-masker parties and those seem to go on at various times throughout the country.

In NC vaccines are now open to anyone who meets age requirements. One of my friends is trying to get her 17 year old in.

My brother, who’s in his 40s got his second Moderna yesterday and was feeling tired today with sore neck, achy, but not too bad so far.

Today is the the two year anniversary of the death of one of my closest and dearest friends:(  He was the best and I miss him everyday.  I hate cancer so much.  I sent an email and thinking of you e-card to his mother, but haven’t heard back.  Now I’m worried about her.

@skatelady, have you considered getting the J&J shot? From what I've heard the side effects are not as severe. The J&J shot is an adenovirus vaccine. The Pfizer/Moderna are mRNA vaccines which trigger your immune system into producing spike proteins. This can be a problem for people with severe inflammation.

If I had to do it over again I'd get J&J. I'm okay with Moderna because I was able to work from home but I was definitely laid out for 2-3 days after the second shot.

Hang in there.

@SunnyBeBe The Black River Health Services in Burgaw, NC has a huge supply of vaccine and they can’t find enough arms to get them in. Call 910-259-5721 ext 5 to make an appointment. Anyone over 18 is accepted. It might be an hour from you, but I drove a hour to get my vaccine and found it well worth it for the piece of mind.

Thanks for the tip. My friend who’s trying to get her 17 year old son in lives in Asheville, so I think she’ll try to get something closer.  I’ve told her about Johnston County, which seems to get an endless supply.  I can’t figure that one out.

I have noticed that the counties in NC with large military populations have more vaccine than people to vaccinate.  Military personnel are getting vaccinated on base but they are also counted by the state when they determine how many doses to send.  They are about to start going door-to-door in Onslow county with vaccinations it seems.

I'm guessing they don't want to drive to Greensboro either, but if they are willing to go that far, they can stalk the FEMA page for the mass vaccination site.  About 24 hours before they are going to open up new slots, they will post the time that they will open up.  Since they post thousands of appointments at one time, they don't fill up instantaneously.

The other thing they can do is see if any of the hospital systems in the area have standby lists.  In Chapel Hill, UNC health has a twitter feed where they post left over doses at the end of the day, you just have to be within 20 minutes of the facility at the time you want to claim one.   There's no pre-registering or call lists, it's all up to the individual to monitor the twitter feed at the announced time.   I don't know if UNC health is doing the clinics at UNCA or if it is being done through another system, but checking with local universities to see if they have standby procedures for their clinics may help too.

I am very fearful that this is permanent. Also concerned what it will mean to not be fully vaccinated in a future "vaccine-passport" world. I'm hoping there's a passport version that says "I really TRIED! I know it's not the mark of Satan or an implanted chip!"

Also, I'm just venting here because I can't anywhere else. I mentioned this in a single group text to my (now former) gym friends, and I was (figuratively) assaulted with "See? SEE? Untested vaccines are dangerous! That's why I'm not getting it!" I already know I've become "This Lady" in numerous "I know This Lady who got crippled by her first vaccine" facebook posts that are spreading like wildfire locally.

I have a neighbor who's become quite a friend over the past couple years, but I'm really struggling with her vaccine fearmongering and ignorance right now.   She's not the most well informed or sharpest knife in the drawer about many things, but she has been convinced by a customer at her job that their aunt was perfectly healthy, was vaccinated and had a fatal stroke the next day that cannot be explained.   Apparently the woman was in her 80s.   Supposedly it was determined without autopsy that the vaccine was the cause of the fatal stroke and the CDC secretly took her body out of state to be examined so they can "fix the vaccine".    Now my neighbor will not get the vaccine because she doesn't "want any more chemicals in her body" and she's positive people are dying from it and it's being covered up.

I hope your issues clear up soon.

Since there's a lot of vaccine talk here, and a lot of women-in-their-60s, I'll just throw into the conversation that my 2nd vaccination date came and went and I did not take it because I continue to experience side effects from the first. Started around 10 days after the first vaccine, and continue unabated (worsening, actually). A multitude of examinations and blood tests revealed NOTHING. Two different doctors threw up their hands and said "side effects!" Fever, headache, overwhelming exhaustion, joint pain, etc etc etc.

I attribute this to my extreme competitiveness. Gotta be the best at everything! And I'm the best side-effect-er.

I am very fearful that this is permanent. Also concerned what it will mean to not be fully vaccinated in a future "vaccine-passport" world. I'm hoping there's a passport version that says "I really TRIED! I know it's not the mark of Satan or an implanted chip!"

Here is my golden mix when she was a puppy. She is an old lady now but doesn’t act like it. She has rarely left my side since the day we brought her home. I joke that we should have named her Velcro. Recently there was discussion on Jill’s thread about whether it is ok to call pets ‘boy’ or ‘girl’. I affectionately call this one my “needy bitch”.

I failed the last CPA exam section 😕 So frustrated! I passed the other three exams on the first try, but this one is giving me a lot of trouble for some reason.

And I really thought I passed!

To be honest, I'm very disappointed. It's not a disaster, I can take it again (and again and again and again). But I am just so, so ready to be done with everything having to do with these exams. I seriously want to crawl into bed and cry.

I'm so exhausted. Really trying to rally myself to study hard and take another swing, but it's not easy at the moment. Maybe I'll feel more positive about it tomorrow. A big part of me just wants to give up, but realistically, I am pretty desperate for whatever job security and salary bump that the license can give me, so that's not an option. I can't tell you how jealous I am of people who can earn a living wage without going through this.

One of my vendors is the same way. She says she has read (on the internet so we all know it's true) about people getting vaccinated and either dying or becoming paralyzed the very next day. So she will not get the vaccine, thankyouverymuch. Let everyone else get it to achieve the herd immunity... she will not. All righty, then.

I think some of the anti-COVID vaccine people are just following the herd. I live in Idaho and my daughter told me she wasn't getting the vaccine b/c I got a major headache from the 2nd shot. In reality, she was never planning on getting the vaccine b/c her group of friends are all against it. She'll take any reason she can b/c it's the popular opinion with her group.

That is so disappointing, especially, because you know the material. No doubt. Now you have a way to figure out what’s causing this snag.  I hate standardized tests.  They are evil and unfair.  I’m serious.  They even have mistakes on them.  Do not let this get you down.  Can you take a class that points out testing tips?  You’ll get there. Just annoying to have it hanging around.  Keep the faith.

I went to Ford Field for my first dose (second dose is next week). Before that, I got an appointment at a Kroger in Toledo, which I canceled. I have been told by multiple people that Kroger isn't checking ID. So that may be an option if someone can't get in elsewhere.

About five weeks ago we were finally able to secure a dose for my mother.  Within a week and a half the floodgates opened here and bam, my husband and I were both able to snag appointments.   Since then the pipeline seems to have burst and I feel like appointments are almost going begging for people to come on in.   Both of my daughters have become eligible this week and one started on Tuesday, one is getting the single dose on Friday while away at college.

I've teared up both times getting mine because I was that grateful to get the chance.  I'm still kind of stunned there is a vaccine developed at this point in all honesty.   I genuinely doubted it would happen this quickly.

I hope everyone looking for an appointment gets their chance very soon, all around the world!

Yep, the people I know locally either do not want to get the vaccine or just haven't bothered to get online and find an appointment. It's not for lack of appointment availability. Unfortunately, I know a lot of people who fit into those categories.

My boss was kind of condescending about me taking off after my COVID vaccine because I had a horrible headache. She had her second dose yesterday and came back to work exhausted. I'm pretty sure she slogged through 5 unnecessary hours of work to spare her of the humiliation of being wrong. (FYI, my boss is the greatest boss on earth, we just give each other a lot of grief over the tiny things.)

I feel so fortunate that most of my friends, co-workers and colleagues are pro covid vax. My private kid, the one we sometimes lovingly call our lemon, due to his many health issues, has had some mild hesitancy about the vax. But he's fully onboard now and plans on trying to get an appoint by the end of this month. I'm looking (way) forward to a safe, unmasked and relaxed indoor Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

@NotthebadVictoria, I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s always heartbreaking to say goodbye to our beloved pets. rue721, it's been a looooong time since I've had to take a standardized test, but do they let you see your results so you can see what tripped you up?

Unfortunately, this exam doesn't let you see what you got wrong! You do get a score report that tells you if you were especially weak or strong in certain areas, but the areas are so broad that it's not really helpful.

@rue721, I’m sorry you didn’t pass. I know you studied really hard for it. You’ve had a lot going on between the tests, and law school, and looking for a house. Maybe take some time to relax and give yourself a break before jumping back in.

You're right. Honestly, I haven't been that focused on this exam because I have a lot of things going on that are more important to me right now. Maybe I'll reschedule for about a month out, so I can take my time reviewing.

I think I mostly need to do A LOT of practice problems. My scores have been close enough to the cut-off that I think my basic grasp of the information is good, but I need to go over my flashcards/notes to keep that information top of mind and just work a TON of problems, so that working them becomes muscle memory.

It's frustrating because it just feels like this phase of my life is over and these last few months before I can move on are rough...

@NotthebadVictoria, I'm so sorry about your pup. That's heartbreaking, and I'm sure you and your other dog both need time to mourn. I don't think that you can make your other dog feel OK about missing his brother, but you can both keep each other company so that neither of you feels alone. That's really hard, I'm sorry.
