Pickles Aplenty October 14, 2014 Share October 14, 2014 Was she worth it? Chalky seemed to think so. Link to comment
MulletorHater October 14, 2014 Share October 14, 2014 Let's see...loss of family...loss of income...loss of freedom...and ultimately loss of life. Old girl seems to batting 4 for 4 to me in the "so not worth it!" department. But, she can sang! 1 Link to comment
Pickles Aplenty October 16, 2014 Author Share October 16, 2014 I will say that Margot Bingham is very easy on the eyes. I thought she looked the part, totally, but I will never understand why Chalky sacrificed so much for her. 2 Link to comment
MyPeopleAreNordic October 16, 2014 Share October 16, 2014 I think Margot Bingham is gorgeous and a good actress. I think she did her best with the character. The character was just a bad idea. Link to comment
Pickles Aplenty October 17, 2014 Author Share October 17, 2014 What bothered me was that Chalky's storyline and eventual demise had nothing at all to do with what happened to him the first three seasons. Daughter came out of nowhere and swallowed the character of Chalky whole. It was disappointing. 6 Link to comment
MulletorHater October 17, 2014 Share October 17, 2014 What bothered me was that Chalky's storyline and eventual demise had nothing at all to do with what happened to him the first three seasons. Daughter came out of nowhere and swallowed the character of Chalky whole. It was disappointing. It reminded me of what happens in some soap operas. The show runners become enamored with the shiny new object who ends up getting way more screen time than is warranted. They are sometimes shoehorned into the lives of main characters and end up consuming those characters. Even worse, long-established characters, whom viewers trust to do, say and act a certain way, are suddenly rewritten to accommodate plot-driven storylines to push the newbies front and center. I believe that Margot Bingham is a fine actress and is quite beautiful. Plus, she has a voice to die for (no pun intended!). However, I strenuously objected to the way that Chalky's life was destroyed because of his apparent obsession with Daughter. For me it goes beyond being p-whipped. The writing for Lenore changed (however subtly), and it seemed to me that Chalky and Daughter were propped up as star-crossed lovers that we were supposed to root for. All the elements were there: the "thunderbolt" after the initial meeting; the over-the-top angst ("I hate you!" "No--I hate you more!"); the emotional co-dependency to the exclusion of just about everything else that was important; Daughter being Chalky's ride-or-die chick while Lenore was the Whitley Gilbert of Turn of the Century Atlantic City; the going on the run; the surprise love child; and the ultimate sacrifice. While I can agree that on some level Chalky was unhappy with certain elements of his home life, I can't help but scratch my head and ask, "And, this shit here was supposed to make him happier?!" 4 Link to comment
buttercupia October 21, 2014 Share October 21, 2014 I can't be mad at Daughter. She is gorgeous, a good actress, and her voice is incredible. she's also a home town girl for me, so I kinda rooted for her. Hated to see Chalky making what looked like bad choices because of her, but sometimes it happens that way. Thunderbolts. Link to comment
