I only watch it when they have Columbo. My DH has been watching it every chance he gets because he is a sucker for that maudlin Christmas bullshit. I can't even watch with him because he won't let me mercilessly mock them.

It makes me laugh when the announcer calls a movie "all new" and "original." Chances are it's a carbon copy of all the other Christmas movies.

Gott im Himmel. I just saw my first Christmas commercial. GTFOH with that. It's not even Halloween.

Oh... it was for that place in Asheville NC... Biltmore?

The Philly cream cheese Christmas commercial has been playing for days.  I could not believe me ears when I heard jingle bells.

Disneyland has been running ads for Christmas holiday packages for several weeks now.

Shoot, I'd think that if you didn't make your Christmas at Disney plans months ago you'd be out of luck.  Unless they are talking about next year.

Also, I liked this Progressive ad.

Yes, I find this ad clever and well done. And funny. It's better than most (or all) of the "turning into your parents" Progressive ads.

Slow down, Target. It's November 1st. You have plenty of time to torture us with your never-ending Christmas commercials. I'll shop at your stores anyway,

Gotta get you all het up for Black Thurfriday.

I find it odd that I didn't see a Party City Halloween ad until yesterday. I guess I haven't been on the right channels.

I liked the alien in the first Butterfinger ad, and I liked him in this ad.

I did notice more halloween themed ads, especially the candy ones, after I posted here.  Still missed the horseless headman though.

That Butterfinger ad bugged me because of the couple's reaction to the kids.  It was odd.

The creepy buff Santa for Dodge is back shilling for Black Friday.  I couldn't get to the remote fast enough.

Yesterday, the Hershey’s Kisses “handbell” ad was in my YouTube recommendations.  I love that one, but IT’S TOO EARLY.

It's barely November!  Christmas is one-day holiday many, but not all, people celebrate, so turning it into a "season" is a problem to begin with.  Starting it at the beginning of November?!

They ruin the few good Christmas commercials by airing them so early.  (I guess this isn't airing yet, but still - STOP IT.)

Not only that but at least six different channels have been running Christmas movies on a loop for weeks. I'm already longing for January, crappy weather be damned.

That's what other countries do. They don't have Thanksgiving as a buffer, so they've already started.

Some cultures celebrate it for the full 12 days, ending on Epiphany, or so I've heard.

My Catholic step-daughter and family start Christmas with Advent and end with Epiphany.

"The season of Advent, which comes from the Latin word adventus meaning “coming” or “visit," begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year for Christians.

The Christmas season begins at sundown on December 24 (Christmas Eve) through Epiphany of the Lord (January 6). This period is popularly referred to as "the twelve days of Christmas."

So that's 4 weeks plus 12 days. In the Christian calendar, For many Christians, Christmas is more than 1 day, it's a season.

Well....Advent is not part of the Christmas season. It is its own season.

These commercials aren't advertising churches, or even evoking the Christian holiday; they're targeting consumers for the secular Santa and presents version of Christmas.  So that they do it earlier and earlier each year is annoying.

I may never get that "Christmas is Coming!" feeling again because it seems commercialism keeps pushing the envelope to have Xmas buying start earlier and earlier each year.  I swear I think I saw Christmas decor being sold in early September this year.

Anyhoo...  my Christmas excitement USED to be triggered by the following commercials:

Stop action Santa riding on a Norelco shaver over the hills of snow.
Peter! home from college, making Folger's coffee for his sleeping family.
The fir tree that opens the window and sneaks a spoonful of green bean casserole and then turns into a fully decorated Xmas tree.
The snowman that comes into the kitchen and eats the Campbell's Soup and turns into a kid.

The Budweiser Clydesdales.

I like the Corona commercial, too.

And the Campbell's snowman and the Hershey bells.

Maybe a couple of others I'm forgetting, but I sure as hell don't want to see any of them in November!

I don't see what's wrong with the Folger's or Campbell's commercials running now*, as they're more about the winter season than Christmas. Although, I find the Campbell's one irrelevant either way since I live in Texas and have never once come into the house covered in snow.

*Not that I've seen either one of them in years, I think they've been retired.

On a similar note, I'm trying to figure out why Tal Bachmann's "She's So High" is being used in a holiday commercial for those Peleton exercise bikes.

It got a "meh" from me.

The first year they did that it got a laugh, as I figured someone at Dodge was a big fan of the cheesy Santa Slay movie he did a few years back

I just caught the new creepy buff Santa Dodge commercial last night.  At least (in the version I saw) it didn't actually feature him much, but there was so much other action going on, I was totally confused.  I was mainly distracted looking at the perfectly decorated, snowy suburban neighborhood setting.

I've just started seeing a commercial (not sure of the product lol but it might be a vehicle?) in which an early-middle-school age girl announces to her class that she wants to be Santa Claus when she grows up.  Meanness from her classmates ensues; the ad shows her stuffing a pillow up her shirt and practicing her ho-ho-ho, and then being sad because she can't be Santa.  Lo and behold, her parents figure out a way to have her BE Santa, by delivering gifts out of a pickup truck decorated with Christmas lights.  Maybe they were delivering to economically disadvantaged kids and it's all very heartwarming, but it just reminds me too much of The Santa Clause and the girl seems way too old to have this fantasy.

Wait, I found it - it's Macy's!

I really hate the Peloton ads, Christmas or not, and anyone who gives me a Peloton for Christmas better be able to duck when I heave it at them. However, if anyone wants to put a car with a big red bow in my driveway for Christmas is welcome to do so, I'd even take an American Girl sized car! Just don't make it into a car commercial.

Monty Python flung a cow (Holy Grail) and Chris Stevens flung a piano (Northern Exposure) will our very own friendperidot be the first to fling a Peloton?

The Coca-Cola snowman/polar bear commercial is pretty cute.  The polar bear cub puts a Coke bottle cap on the snowman to be used as its nose.

There's also one with a little puffin that can't figure out how to open the bottle.  Cute too.

I want to know who leaves behind stuff in an attic or basement like that.  The gecko says it's fun to see what's left behind like that is an expected part of buying a home.

The people who sold me a house left some stuff in both the basement and attic.  Nothing creepy though, and at least one thing which was useful.  But I wouldn't say it's all that common, let alone (lot alone?) expected.

I find it kind of odd of them to use I Feel Love by Donna Summer but I guess at least it's not Love to Love Ya Baby.  I love Donna Summer, but those songs are very sexual.  Not that Target has ever cared.

Most television dramas are horribly depressing, and the comedies aren't funny.   I don't mind having a little optimistic programming this time of year.  Heck, I would take optimistic programming year round.

I find schmaltzy Christmas movies depressing, not optimistic, so they have the exact opposite of the intended effect.  Well, depressing and enraging, as in I keep threatening to go all Elvis and shoot my tv when I see the never-ending commercials for the Hallmark channel's movies.

UGH.  Nothing against Sam Smith personally, but he is NO Donna Summer.

I'd take the car only if it was already fully paid for.  Don't stick me with some outrageous $400 car payment.

I feel the same way. They're so manipulative, using the same tired plots over and over again. It's  cheap exploitation of peoples sentiments to manufacture warm and fuzzy feelings for profit. I know television is all about advertising dollars but to me Hallmark is dishonest about it and it's insulting. YMMV, of course.

Jared/Zales (not sure which)- Santa seems to be shoving a Peloton down someone's chimney, then gets back in his sleigh and heads home to his palatial lodge-style house. He leaves an ugly little diamond-encrusted necklace on Mrs. Claus's night stand, then crawls into bed, where they nuzzle lovingly.

I don't hate this, but 1) the house is so fancy and modern, 2) he and Mrs. Claus look like buff, well-groomed 50-something suburbanites and 3) I dunno, I feel funny seeing them in bed together.
