This is the part that annoys me excessively.  Why are these women  being written as adversaries.

Because it does happen in real life.  My mother and my brother's mother-in-law were both rather possessive of time with the grandkids.  Not to the extent of Mary & Audrey, but enough that my mother loved it when my 5 or 6 year old nephew told her she was his favorite grandmother.

Because it's lazy writing.  Heaven forbid women be supportive of one another.

It would wonderful if they all were, but it's not realistic.

The way they write Mary on this show bothers me but I will concede that at least they're being consistent with what they're doing.  Audrey is the one that they can't seem to decide what they want.  We've had several episodes where she seems much more likable, or certainly not nearly as one note mean as she was at the start of the show.

But then we get an episode like this one where, for no apparent reason, she's back to one note mean again.  I'm really curious how they're going to have her behave in the upcoming episodes where it looks like Jim is making a big decision that will definitely be affecting her.
