Matt Murdock Will Drop an F-Bomb in 'Daredevil: Born Again' According to Charlie Cox [Exclusive]
Aidan Kelley   Oct 19, 2024
https://collider.com/daredevil-born-again-f-bomb-charlie-cox-exclusive/

Quote

While speaking with Collider's own Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con (where he was also joined by the man behind everyone's favorite Kingpin of crime, Vincent D'Onofrio), Charlie Cox let slip that his beloved superhero character was able to sneak in an F-bomb for "the first time ever". When asked if the swear came in Episode 1, Cox said no, but it's still there, while also teasing that plans for a second season of Daredevil: Born Again are potentially on the table:

"It is not, but it was shocking to me. It's almost under my breath, but you can hear it. I was like, 'Oh wow. Great!' Good to know for Season 2."

Cox shared the news after his co-star, Vincent D'Onofrio, promised that the new series will be keeping the dark tone of the original show that inspired it:

"We're continuing the darkness of the first series on Netflix. It is gonna be that dark and that intense. We worked our butts off to make it that way. So, we're excited about it because of that. As far as I'm concerned, the biggest question that I get asked the most is, is it gonna be dark like the original series? And the answer to that is a definite yes. It is dark. It is crazy. We do some things that are definitely a first for Disney+."

Charlie Cox Teases a "Very Long, Very Cool" Fight Scene in 'Daredevil: Born Again' [Exclusive]
Aidan Kelley   Oct 19, 2024
https://collider.com/daredevil-born-again-charlie-cox-oner-fight-scene-exclusive/

Quote

Both of those two aforementioned fights [in Seasons 1 and 2 of the original Daredevil series] are typically referred to as "oners", as their shot (or at least made to look like their shot) in one single unbroken take. As luck would have it, Charlie Cox is something of an expert on the almighty oner, and he shared his knowledge on the topic with Collider's Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con. In addition, Cox also revealed that fans can expect another elaborate fight sequence in the same style in Daredevil: Born Again:

"There are different types of oners. So far, we've done three oners that are memorable. There’s one in Episode 2 of Season 1, which is a true oner. We shot it until we got it perfect, and there are no cuts in that one shot. The camera moves around, films everything, and if anything doesn't work, we do it again. It takes a lot of preparation. You have to dedicate at least a day or two days.

There’s something called 'Texas switching,' where, without cutting the camera, me and my stunt double, or Vincent and his stunt double, are switching places so that my stunt double is doing the things that I can't do, and I'm back into the stuff that I can do when the camera's on my face and stuff. But you don't notice it. We did a similar one in Season 3, Episode 4. Season 3 in the prison. There's literally a moment where I'm kicking someone on the floor, and my foot is in camera, someone yanks me out from behind, and the next foot that comes in was Chris’, my stunt double’s foot. It's really fun. The technicality of it is awesome.

Anyway, we also did a oner in Season 2, which is not a true oner. So, it plays like a oner, it looks like the camera continues to move, but every now and again, the camera will swipe something that is completely black, like a jacket or a wall or something, and when that happens, you can stitch together the different takes so it plays like a oner. But sometimes you get a little bit more freedom, and you can do slightly cool stuff. So, we have a very long, very cool stitched one in the new season. I'm not gonna say which episode ."

Wilson Bethel Teases 'Daredevil: Born Again' Five Year Time Jump From the Original Series: "Little Extra Bit of Life in There"
By Ryan O'Rourke   Dec 3, 2024
https://collider.com/daredevil-born-again-time-jump-explained-wilson-bethel/

Quote

According to Bethel, Born Again strongly reflects everything that happened to both the characters and the actors in the time since the Netflix original wrapped. There are a lot of untold stories from those five years in between that will inform how the characters are portrayed and require exploration when things start to unfold in March. Everyone will be starting in a different spot than where they ended Season 3, and Bethel believes that each actor's life experiences in that time will help to make their characters richer than ever. Applying what he's learned from other projects has also made his return to the streets of New York all the more fulfilling. He says:

"Yeah, I mean, Charlie sort of alluded to it. But I think one of the things that's interesting is, I mean, maybe it's different on a sitcom or something like that, but if you're on a show for over a period of time and the characters are aging together sort of in real-time, and if the show is well written and the writers are sort of responding to that reality transpiring, the wrinkles of their hair, et cetera, then in theory, the character is evolving in a way, whether or not the show was on air.

So there's kind of like this funny thing stepping back after five years where Born Again will pick up with that amount of time having transpired. The show doesn't pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. And so in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime. So whether or not even those stories are necessarily on screen, there's just that little extra bit of life in there, which I think is… as an actor, it gives you an opportunity to bring whatever your own journey has been in that time and they get sort of a little longer in the tooth."

'Daredevil: Born Again'
Premiering on Disney+ on March 4th

...
Charlie Cox pumped new energy into MCU fans by making a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and they’ve since awaited his return on the small screen. A part of Phase Five of the MCU, Daredevil: Born Again is a wish come true. Cox reprises his role as the beloved vigilante Matt Murdock in the series, which continues to delve deeper into his life as a blind lawyer by day and masked crime-fighter by night.

Set in the bustling streets of New York, the nine-episode first season will explore Matt’s relentless pursuit of justice as he faces formidable foes like Wilson Fisk and other threats from the past. The star-studded ensemble also includes Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal.

It's new the nerds have been barking for days as they don't see trailers as promos to get the audience in. If it was the networks won't release them too early like the toys that missed the mark when COVID and strikes delayed releases. But rather part of the product in themselves. Even if nobody is paying to see the trailer beyond the other ads YouTube inserts.

It looks like after all of the debate of "is it MCU?" That the Netflix team might be the last hope to save the MCU before a reboot.

Daredevil: Born Again Violence Goes ‘Way Past Anything Netflix Ever Did’
Ben Travis   Feb 10, 2025
https://www.empireonline.com/tv/news/daredevil-born-again-violence-way-past-netflix-exclusive/

Quote

In fact, as Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane (previously behind The Punisher series) tells Empire, it’s going even harder than ever before. “The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show,” he says. “I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.” That’s almost hard to imagine, given that the previous Daredevil show had Fisk slamming heads in car doors, with minions who’d sooner impale their heads on spikes than name their omniscient boss. But Kingpin himself agrees that Born Again is both deeper and darker. “There’s a world in which you might think that if that show kept running, we’d be in this place eventually, or something like it,” says D’Onofrio. “But we’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness.”
*  *  *
Exactly how that bubbles over remains to be seen – as Born Again begins, we find Murdock and Fisk forced into some kind of fragile truce, publicly playing nice. “If you look at how it ends almost every season, they punch the shit out of each other, Kingpin goes to jail, we know he’s gonna come back. I didn’t want to do that,” teases Scardapane. “This dynamic is way more tense. There’s one scene between them in the first episode that lays it all out. Then we spend the next eight episodes throwing rocks at it.” Sounds like those rocks are really going to hurt.

Why Daredevil: Born Again’s Overhaul Brought Back Karen And Foggy: ‘They’re The Heart Of His World’
Ben Travis   Feb 11, 2025
https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/daredevil-born-again-overhaul-karen-foggy-heart-of-his-world-exclusive/

Quote

As it turns out, reuniting the holy trinity of Nelson, Murdock and Page was key to Scardapane’s pitch when he was brought in to retool Born Again. “That was actually one of the first things I said to the bosses,” he tells Empire. “You can’t do this show without Karen and Foggy. They’re Matt’s family. They’re the heart of his world. You can’t take them out without explaining why, and if that explanation doesn’t ring true, don’t take them out.” Their return was intended to make Born Again even more of a continuation of the Netflix show, rather than a fresh start for Matt. “It was much less the world we knew, and more trying to blaze a new trail,” says Scardapane of what Born Again used to be, “but in doing so, they’d forgotten some things that really were necessary to the engine of the story.”

Bringing back Foggy and Karen was so important that Scardapane wouldn’t have done the show without them – after all, the Netflix series ended with the trio in a bar, choosing to evolve the Nelson & Murdock firm into Nelson, Murdock & Page. “I was willing to lose a job over this one,” Scardapane laughs. “Because Season 3 of the Netflix show ended with a dream, with the names on that napkin. If you don’t pay that off, you’re not giving your characters context. You can’t ignore that dream.” For Daredevil fans, Born Again is a dream that’s a long time coming.

Marvel is 'very much exploring' Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist returns (exclusive)
By Nick Romano   February 19, 2025

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly for an exclusive deep dive into Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel's head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum confirms "we are very much exploring" bringing back Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist/Danny Rand to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I can't say much, but I'll tell you that it's so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum says. “Obviously we don't have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it. It's dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
*  *  *
When asked about characters like Elektra (played by Elodie Young across the Netflix run) and ninja clan the Hand, Winderbaum says, "Who knows what the future brings? Once we arc out here, there's obviously any number of stories that we'd want to revisit or pull from the comics that involve Elektra or the Hand or any part of the Daredevil mythos."

“100 percent it’s in the back of our heads," Sana Amanat, another executive producer on Daredevil: Born Again, comments to EW separately of Elektra and the Hand. "Eventually we’ll try to figure out a bit more with that."

The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ this March 4. Season 2 is already gearing up to film.

In Daredevil: Born Again, Who Does the Late Kamar de los Reyes Play?

When Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again debuts Tuesday, March 4, with its first two episodes (of nine), the second episode will be presented “In Loving Memory of Kamar de los Reyes,” as noted on an opening title card.

De los Reyes — who was well known for his run as One Life to Live’s Antonio Vega, and other TV roles including Sleepy Hollow antagonist Jobe and All American‘s Coach Montes — passed away on Christmas Eve 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. Daredevil: Born Again had started production in March 2023, paused for the dual Hollywood strikes coupled with a creative overhaul, and resumed in January 2024.
*  *  *

Spoiler

In Daredevil: Born Again, de los Reyes can be seen in multiple episodes as Hector Ayala, a martial arts master who draws powers from magical Jade Tiger amulets and suits up as a vigilante known as White Tiger. When Hector is found at what looks like a murder scene and promptly lands in prison, Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) boldly decides to take on the case, landing the lawyer squarely in the crosshairs of longtime adversary/new-ish NYC mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and his anti-vigilante agenda.

Matt giving those two dirty cops a buh-rutal beating at the close of Episode 2 will “absolutely” bite him in the ass, warns showrunner Dario Scardapane, adding: “One of them will be carrying a heck of a grudge.” The EP went on to note, “The thing that I loved about that scene is when he’s sitting there telling himself, ‘Don’t do this, you don’t want to do this…,’ he’s not telling them not to do it. He’s talking to himself.”

Are we going to see Karen again on Daredevil: Born Again? –Claire

Spoiler

San Francisco is far away. But interestingly, during my interview with showrunner Dario Scardapane and EP Sana Amanat, when I suggested that Deborah Ann Woll will have a “limited presence” in the revival, they were quick to correct me. “‘Limited presence’ I would question,” said Scardapane. “There are things to be revealed,” and “because it is this [superhero] world, don’t count everything out quite yet. There are returns that I think are surprising and inevitable.”

Should Daredevil Fans Be Wary of — or Worried for — Matt’s New Girlfriend? EPs Hint at Fisk’s Heather Agenda!

Is it?” added showrunner Dario Scardapane. “Or is it another Fiskian movie to get close to people in Matt’s life?”

But it sounds like the Marvel Television series has even bigger plans for Matt’s new love interest.

Because if you happen to be a fan of Revenge alum Levieva, “Ohhh, you’re in for a treat,” Scardapane hinted with a (slightly evil?) laugh. “I wish I could see the look on your face in about four episodes.”

Bernthal has yet to make his first appearance on Born Again (Episode 4 of nine streams this Tuesday at 9/8c), but the iconic Punisher skull imagery has already popped up here and there — including in tattoos sported by some of New York’s Finest, and on the shirt of the person who shot dead Hector Ayala aka The White Tiger, in cold blood, at the close of Episode 3.

TVLine asked [showrunner Dario] Scardapane to preview the circumstances under which will first see Bernthal’s Frank Castle again.

“He comes in for a very, very particular reason, he is brought in by a very, very particular person, and I think that it will be immensely satisfying — and a bit like, ‘Oh, my God,'” Scardapane continued.

After all, “Whenever you put Frank and Daredevil together, all bets are off. It’s a tornado,” he reminded. “I mean… we broke some stuff!”

Vincent D’Onofrio Previews ‘Powerful’ Daredevil Turn by Michael Gandolfini, Recalls ‘Great Conversations’ With the Late James Gandolfini

In Daredevil: Born Again (Episode 4 of the first season’s nine streams this Tuesday at 9/8c), D’Onofrio reprises his Marvel’s Daredevil role of Wilson Fisk, the crime boss fka Kingpin who now serves as mayor of New York City. Daniel has thus far been offering his take on Fisk’s mayoralty in bits and pieces, but in an upcoming episode,

he risks facing his boss’ wrath by speaking up much more loudly.

“There is a scene in Fisk’s in office that called for [Michael] to stand up to my character,” D’Onofrio previewed. “[Daniel Blake] wasn’t written as a powerful character, but in this particular moment he needs to be powerful because he has been called out by Kingpin to answer for something that he did.”
*  *  *
As Daniel’s moment of truth unfolds, “Michael had this monologue right in my face, and every time he did a take, he just hit it perfectly in a different way each time,” D’Onofrio said. “That’s the sign of a an actor that’s on his way to becoming one of those actors that’s multi-leveled and can carry a story.”
*  *  *
“I was so impressed by [Michael’s monologue] and simultaneously so happy for him,” D’Onofrio shared. “I naturally have warm feelings towards him because of his father, but once I realized that he’s his own man and he’s also an amazing talent…. It was almost as if my own son was accomplishing something big. It was really quite nice.”

Daredevil: Born Again EPs Tease Muse Arc and Its ‘Shocking Consequences’ — for Season 1 ‘and Beyond’
By Matt Webb Mitovich   March 21, 2025
https://tvline.com/previews/daredevil-born-again-muse-explained-serial-killer-artist-1235420354/

Spoiler

Speaking with TVLine, Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane first made clear that Muse will play a role in Season 1 “and beyond.”

“I call Muse a stressor in this story,” Scardapane elaborated, “in that in the battle between Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Muse causes a ripple effect.”

“He is an important stressor for the conflict of Fisk and Matt Murdock,” echoes executive producer Sana Amanat.

“He causes trouble for Fisk,” adds Scardapane. “He causes trouble for Matt Murdock.”

(As you can see, the EPs concede that Muse is male, though neither would confirm the casting of the role. But a skimming of Episode 4’s end credits, coupled with abundant online speculation, will point you to an actor whose face has already been seen on the series.)
*  *  *
“The Muse run, for lack of a better word, in this story has pretty shocking consequences. And those consequences don’t end,” Scardapane warns. “We’re carrying them into Season 2, is the best way I can put it.”

Along the way, viewers will get a better look at Muse’s aforementioned lair, which became quite an attraction even for those who worked on the series.

“I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say,” director Aaron Moorhead hedged, “but it feels extraordinarily, um…. you very quickly forget that you’re on a set. And you start very much feeling like you’re in a lair.

Report from Charlie Cox panel at Fan Expo Cleveland yesterday...

After Daredevil: Born Again's Charlie Cox Shed New Light On Bullseye's Return And Jon Bernthal's First Scene Back, I Need To Rewatch The First Four Episodes

https://www.cinemablend.com/superheroes/after-daredevil-born-agains-charlie-cox-shed-new-light-bullseyes-return-jon-bernthals-first-scene-back-im-ready-to-rewatch

Quote

Just days after the very first episode of Born Again featuring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher released on the Disney streamer, Charlie Cox spoke to a packed ballroom of fans during Fan Expo Cleveland, which I attended. The new take on Daredevil famously – or perhaps infamously – was retooled after plenty of footage had already been shot, when the original plan for Born Again was for Elden Henson's Foggy and Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page to be left out entirely.

New showrunner Dario Scardapane, who had been a writer and producer on The Punisher prior to Netflix cancelling its slew of Marvel shows, fought for Foggy and Karen to come back when he was in the running for the job, and Charlie Cox shared what he spoke to Scardapane about when they talked for the first time. Cox said:

"My first sit down with Dario [Scardapane], our showrunner who was brought in after the strikes to massage what we had. Just to be clear, a lot of what we shot pre-strikes with our original show producers who did a wonderful job, a lot of that material is in the show, including the scene that people are talking about today with Jon Bernthal."

That initial scene between Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal was their first as Murdock and Castle since Season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil, and for me at least, it's already one of the most memorable sequences of all of Born Again. As I watched, though, my inner Punisher fan partly expected Frank to mention Karen at some point. If that scene was first planned prior to Scardapane coming on board with Foggy and Karen in tow, could that be why it unfolded without strong ties to either Daredevil or The Punisher in their original streaming runs?

Well, it won't take much to motivate me to watch it all over again after attending Cleveland Fan Expo and hearing Cox talk about that first conversation with the new showrunner! He went on to shed light on the painful opening scene with Bullseye that ended with Foggy dead just minutes into Born Again Season 1, saying:

"I sat working with Dario when we were coming back to start up and he was going to write these new episodes. He pitched me that scene with Bullseye, and we were chatting about it. What came out of that conversation was the idea that all throughout the scene, he's hearing the heartbeat. That came out of our first conversation, and I remember, as we were saying goodbye to each other, [I was] like, 'Oh, that's good.'"
*  *  *
Charlie Cox even shared that he likes it "when Matt loses his temper," and it was only thanks to Bullseye's skeletal enhancements at the end of Netflix's Daredevil Season 3 that Matt didn't actually end his life. I've personally put off rewatching the Born Again opening over the past few weeks just because of how heavy and sad it is to lose Foggy so quickly, but I might have to do just that after hearing from Cox.
