AnimeMania October 1 Share October 1 Like Water for Chocolate, is an 11 episode TV Series streaming on November 3, 2024 on Max. The TV Series is based on the novel ("Como agua para chocolate" 1989) by Laura Esquivel. Each chapter starts with a recipe that becomes inseparable from the story itself. The novel was made into a movie in 1992. There was also a ballet adaptation (2022) at the Metropolitan Opera. Like Water for Chocolate takes place in 1900 during the Mexican Revolution and follows the household of Mother Elena and her three daughters, Gertrudis, Rosaura, and Tita. Spoiler Tita de la Garza and Pedro Múzquiz are a young couple deeply in love, but unable to be together due to Tita's family custom of the youngest daughter is forbidden to marry, so that she can take care of her mother until her mother dies. Tita's heart breaks when her mother offers Pedro to Tita's sister, Rosaura, instead. Pedro accepts the offer, just so he can live in the same house with Tita. Tita undergoes a magical transformation as Tita’s emotions surface through the preparation of the meals she is cooking, allowing her to channel her deepest desires and passions into her recipes, transforming all who taste them.
