S21.E05: The Guy Who Starts A Fight

Recommended Posts

Given that this is network TV, I’m not sure what else they could so. Thongs/G-Strings are clearly out (During the “Nude Photo Shoot” they used them, and there was a LOT of blurring going-on!), and they likely wouldn’t want to pay the rate to get a major underwear line (like Ginch Gonch, 2xist, etc.) onboard.

Oh, yeah, no, I wasn't suggesting they forego undies entirely. But surely they could find some non-descript basic briefs in another colour. In fact, I know you can, and for really cheap, as I recently had to do props for a play about underwear, and I found lots and lots at the dollar store. Red or black seem suitable for this particular shoot, but really, any colour would be an improvement over white. I just don't think any man can make tighty-whities look like anything other than diapers, and that's really only sexy for an extremely small subset of the population.

I think white briefs are okay, though black, red or gray photograph much better, but they're literally tightie wighties. White bikini briefs would be so, so much more flattering and I know you can get cheap generics of those because I own some. But seriously, if you're going to have 'show your ass off like a go-go boy late on rent' as part of their challenge, you want underwear that doesn't sag around the butt at all. And honestly, there is a reason most male underwear photography has padding in the underwear, the saggy flat front while natural(because any good underwear maker knows your boys need some room to roam around) is not attractive photography.

.Why is this episode called "The Girl Who Starts a Fight"?  I am personally not offended by anything usually, but that seems weird since Romeo wasn't super flaming.  Or is the girl who started the fight Tyra?

It might be a mistake. Every other place where I've seen the episode title it's "The Guy Who Starts a Fight" including Hulu.

It was a mistake so I changed the title.

And she launched a lawsuit this week claiming that Tyra took away her crown because she used to be an escort. It's in the other threads and on TMZ.

Ohhh, really? I didn't hear about that! Ohhhh, sounds juicy!

Shadow, the social media votes do factor in to something like that. Everyone who gets eliminated still continues to do the photo shoots, although off-camera. (This is because all the photos were released to social media before the show ever aired to collect the votes, so they had to make sure you couldn't tell the order of elimination.) At some point in the future (like, when there's 5 or 6 contestants left in the running), they tally up the social media votes for all the eliminated contestants, and whoever has the highest score gets a second shot at the competition. So we'll have to put up with at least one of them again down the road.

I also wish Romeo had gone off in a bonfire.

That would have been 100,000 times better than watching him bite it on the runway like Alexandra did. ("She fell . . . TWICE.")

I hope no one learns their perspective of the Wiccan religion from this show it's mostly about finding balance in nature and not about doing spells for personal gain or to harm others.

See. Your first problem is seeking perspective from a show like ANTM. ;)

I'd like to think that most viewers saw Romeo as a phony and not indicative of who Wiccans actually are and what they believe.

".....ever since I saw the Australian version and realized almost all the contestants on our American original are way too old to start up a modeling career."

I've watched up to Season 6 of the Australian version.  While Season 6 had its problems (a big ooops in announcing the winner), the young women at the end of Season 6 are really rather a nice group.  Since they can be as young as 16, some of their behavior is pretty juvenile (they are teenagers, after all).  The models are not a civilized bunch at times (in fact over the various seasons, they and the judges have indulged in bullying) and there is some scandals swirling around the show, but, overall, there is a big difference in their approach in that they actually encourage the models to act professionally, and their challenges often including payng jobs and really nice prizes.  Take the makeovers, for example.  Instead of weird hair styles (or beard styles), I'd say most of the Austrailians end up looking much improved and glamorous.  Many of the models, even those who aren't in the top three, go on to sign with agents and become working models.  Tyra seems to be using the show as her personal playpen, and the nonsenscial challenges and the really boorish behavior that is tolerated make it seem that  these poor souls are there for Tyra's amusement rather than any serious intent to give them a career.  I watched a few minutes of this episode and decided that was the end of me.  Really, I can watch bad behavior anywhere, and this show is getting more moronic with each episode.  I just don't find it very amusing.  I'm going to go back to the Australia show, watch Season 7, and leave it at that.  Maybe I'm just too old to put up with Tyra anymore.

You know what I remember most about Australia, I think it was season 6, was the frequent multiple eliminations.  They would just be like, "Yeah, the three of you...not happening, sorry," and three would walk off in tears with that awesome goodbye song.

I wish they would do that here.  Think of all the drama if there's never any real safety!  Also, think of how much quicker we'd get to the 2-3 who might actually have a shot at modeling, or at least a serious interest in it.

I'd like to think that most viewers saw Romeo as a phony and not indicative of who Wiccans actually are and what they believe.

Considering the low ratings and non-existent pop cultural impact of this show, even if most viewers believed Romeo represented Wiccans accurately it would only be like 10 people with misconceptions.

Make it eleven. I also believe that the winner of this show is destined for a life of super stardom and that Tyra's hair is all-natural. Now if you'll excuse me, it's Milan Fashion Week. I need to go watch some models booch on stilts.

Wait. There are 10 other people who watch this show besides us? And they don't expect to be paid?

Yes, seriously! The makeovers should be bringing out the best in these people's features, taking them from being pretty or even beautiful, and making them into striking models with a look that's distinctive but still versatile enough that they can do a variety of kinds of jobs. And sometimes, those will be extreme, in that what they end up with is very different from what they started with. But they should come out of it looking better, or at the very least, no worse than they went in. And if Tyra truly believes that she's accomplishing that these days, she is seriously delusional. Some of them still do (Mirjana, for example, much as I can't stand her, looks great.), but so many of them end up with something like the horror that now resides on Kari's head. And let's not even talk about that stick-on beard. Anyone got a countdown clock on exactly how many seconds past the end of this show before Kari takes those extensions out?

This show airs on Saturdays where I live so I'm late to the thread BUT...

Matthew gets more and more attractive each week just through not being an asshole. My favorite moment this week was when he looked right at the interviewer during his confessional and went, "Do I have something I'd like to say about how gay men are treated? Yeah. It's horrible." Or words to that effect. I love him.

Also, BOO to Tyra and her weird need to bully 18-19-year-old girls. From what we saw, it seemed like Lenox cooperated with the stupid "teach" -- why is it not called a lesson?? -- for a really long time, in spite of being embarrassed by getting singled out in front of her peers and told that she's not sexy. It was a mistake for her not to realize that it would be coming up in a challenge and practice on her own, but that doesn't mean you need to a) give her a ceremonial 1, b) tell her you're "letting" her stay because Romeo headbutted someone, 3) tell her she doesn't "deserve" a photo, and d) give her some random penalty that you just made up this minute because you hate her guts. That's low.

I also don't believe she would have ever gotten a 1 if someone were actually being eliminated. What a cheap shot.

Lenox got called to the carpet for walking away from Tyra and refusing to continue. When Azmarie did the same thing, she was given the boot so Lenox is quite fortunate.

I think Lenox and the rest of the hamsters should be very grateful that Lenox's walking away did subject them to one of Tyra's stories about how tough it was when she was starting out --

"Don't walk away during my teach! You should be thankful that you have the opportunity to learn how to be sexy! When I was starting out, no one - NO ONE! - taught me how to be sexy!  I was only 4 years old and my mama had to take me to the bad part of town to watch the hookers try to pick up men - just so I could learn how to be sexy! I spent hours - HOURS! - watching porn just to learn how to tooch!  Do you think that head roll just came naturally to me? Do you? No - I spent many nights sitting in bars watching drunk women rolling their heads back and forth! I spent so much time practicing my sexy squint that I got cramps in my eyelids, but I kept squinting through the pain! Don't ever take my teaches for granted."

I don't like to wish violence onto people but Romeo needs to be punched in the face.

I have a sneaking feeling Tyra may not like Lenox very much.

Where did Lenox go to college? The only girls I remember Tyra reacting to this harshly have been the ones who come across as fairly intelligent. I think she's threatened by the hamsters she can't mold. Though she still seems to be trying to take credit for Yaya's success.

The hooking up going on in the house is so lame. That was what I feared about the guy/girl cycle. The inevitable hook ups and triangles. And it's not even fun to watch. Does anybody really care which guy Marianna hooks up with?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. NOPE.

The teach was as not as stupid as I thought it was going to be. I mean, all the names? Idiotic. Most of what Tyra said? Terrible. But the actual moves were not that bad. I could see them maybe using them on a shoot or in a commercial. Other than the guys sticking their butts out.

I did agree that as stupid as Lenox felt, she should have tried. Try and commit. Or make it your own if you can't do exactly what everyone else is doing.

Hey, Romeo. It's not about scaring you. It's about getting you to act professional. This is a job you're auditioning for.

What?! I haven't watched the entire episode yet, but this is great news.

The hex I put on Romeo worked!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Ben/Raelia: Good. Ben's frame is bigger than I thought it was. I think he might be oddly versatile because I can never quite remember what he looks like. That or he's forgettable. I don't think it's muscle mass but just natural breadth from being one of the taller guys.

Will/Matt: Will seemed a little too aggressive. That is more aggressive than sexy. It looked a little awkward. It was less black widow/vampiric and more cannibalism.

Mirjana/Keith: Guys, it's still a commercial. Not soft core porn. What are you doing? Licking his chest was not part of the teach.

Kari/Denzel: They were weak. I feel like her hair didn't look so bad. Shut up about Kari being passive, Denzel. You were worse than she was.

Shei/Adam: She was a little more comical than fashion but I think it was fine. Adam seeing to have a real problem with the head rolls. I don't know if it's not having that much control or something to do with a past injury. His muscles don't seem bulky enough around his neck and shoulders to restrict movement.

Lennox/Romeo: It wasn't just that she wasn't sexy. She wasn't aggressive. You can't always model sleepy and bored and tired. She couldn't bring any energy.

I agree that Adam could have backed off instead of egging Romeo on but he got him eliminated so... yay, Adam!

The runway and the stilts didn't bring anything interesting but I do like that they're prioritizing runway again.

Not much to say about judging. They were nice to Adam and way too kind to Denzel. Other than that I don't have much to argue with. I do think that they managed to cut together commercials that weren't as bad as I thought they'd be from the footage of the shoot. While Lenox's commercial wasn't good I could see how taking stills you would get some good photos.

Tyra told Lenox she had only FIVE frames three times. I thought she showed restraint by not making it five.

Are we seriously jizzing in our pants because two girls kissed on a dare? After last week's drama because Matthew kissed Will? Ugh.

Is Tyra actually teaching the models? Woah. It did come across as slightly sleazy, especially when Lenox came up, but better than the BOOM BOOM BOOM shtick.

Is Line App sponsoring the show or something?

Romeo got eliminated for violence as he was trying to provoke someone else to be violent. Can't say fairer than that, but don't care either way.

Weren't they supposed to remove Denzel's beard?

Lenox should have made more of an effort but she does not deserve the Tyra hate. You don't deserve a photo? You will only have 5 frames? She doesn't only want to eliminate her, she wants to be a bully in the process.
